I've had my 2023 Chevy Tahoe with an aftermarket Borla muffler making an annoying rattle at certain speeds for far too long. I had my suspicions about the cause, but I finally brought it to Alfred -- and within minutes, he identified the real issue. Turns out it wasn't the Borla muffler at all. He quickly found the GM factory-related problem, showed me exactly what was happening, and explained the repair. The fix was expected to take about 90 minutes: cut out the bad section of pipe and weld everything back together. Somehow, Alfred had it finished in just 40 minutes and called me for pickup. I usually don't do any back and forth as it's not constructive, but would like to give an update just to respond to the owner 's comments claiming " transparency ". 1. I never claimed any expertise in what needed to be checked or done to the car, I described the symptom - smell of exhaust. You were supposed to be the experts to diagnose the problem, not me. 2. You did mention the plastic bag, but you never showed it to me (not as i asked for that either). When i asked what if a plastic bag stuck in the pipe wasn't the real problem and what if the smell continues, you didn't have an answer. 3. I called in immediately after dropping off the car, so WAY before you started working on it, not at the end, and asked you to check the lights. I even explained that I was stopped by a cop and promised to fix it. So no, it wasn't working initially and went off in front of you, you just didn't care to check. 3. As i picked up the car, I even said how disappointing it tis o be charged for fixing nothing, and when you finally did notice the dead fog light, you even made a point to lecture me that i " asked to check the headlights, not fog lights "! You did send me to buy my own light and bring it back (at some point the following week), for you to change it, but you never said that you would do that for free. Given that I already paid $128 for nothing being fixed, I didn't want to pay more. I'm glad you have your own customers who hopefully get better treatment , but I have to say this was the worst experience I've had with the mechanics. read more

I had two M5 mufflers that I wanted to install on my BMW 550i and required a custom welding. I went to three other muffler shops prior and none of them wanted to do the job for various reasons. When I stopped by Muffler Express and explained Alfred what I wanted to do he took the job with no problem and was able to do the install right away! I stayed at the shop for time he was working on the car and was able to observe all the process. The install took about 3 hours. When I arrived the tech took one look under my hood and identified a small issue with a vacuum line which would have normally meant an automatic fail. But instead of taking my money and failing me, he gave me the chance to go get the hose replaced (thank you Carlson Subaru!!). (Attempted) Rip Off Warning Took my 911 over for an estimate on some exhaust work last week. Owner said it would take up to 5 hours of work. He quoted me a rate of $140/hr and told me to come back today. I arrive today and he asks me to sign a blank estimate form. I ask him to call me if it's taking more than 3 hours. He says it's going to be $800 flat. His pricing notice says $89.95 per hour. I told him, "no, I agreed to hourly work." Obviously he saw a nice car and thought he was going to make double today. He then cussed me out and tells me to get the fuck out. I'm filing a complaint with BBB and the State Department of Consumer Affairs today. Stay away from this place and spread the word. read more

I moved from PA and now I'm trying to get my CA registration. I found a coupon online for a $19.95 smog check by googling smog test coupon. I called Mufflers and they said they'd honor it since my vehicle is newer than 2000. The smog test took all of 10 minutes and to my surprise I passed! I've heard that it's hard as hell to pass the CA smog test so this made my day. Matt provided great customer service. Also, though they honored the coupon there's an $8.95 charge for... Something. I came in to put back my mufflers and resonator because of a ticket I received. If you have any modifications done to your exhaust(muffler delete,resonator delete) and want to go back to OEM these guys are the guys to go to. Very clean welding and professionally done. They retouched up my magnaflow resonator on both ends and made it look brand new and OEM. Definitely not rushed. Don't bring your newer or more expensive cars here, they quote based on what you drive and will overcharge you. I brought my car to weld up a leaky exhaust. First they tried to sell me a new catalytic converter! Then they quoted a relatively high price compared to what's posted in their shop. In the interest of time I went ahead with it. Later my mechanic said the exhaust wasn't welded properly and was still leaking and said I should take it back. 2nd time they wanted to charge me for the same price again claiming it's a new issue and quoted 2 hours. In the end it took them only less than an hour and they gave a small discount, but they shouldn't have charged for it in the first place since they botched the first repair. So overall I overpaid more than 4x and had to make an extra trip for a simple job that should've only take 45 minutes or so. read more

I called ahead of time for an oil change. They were quick accomodating me and weren't too busy when I came in on a Friday at around 1pm. I don't think they're actually known for their oil changes though, seeing they're called "MUFFLER" express. During the service, I had to ask them to make sure they check my brake pads and air pressure etc. after they said they were done because I felt like they may have skipped those things.., the usual services that go into a typical oil change, right? I'm not even so sure they filled up my fluids .. so overall, I probably wouldn't come back here for an oil change because I'm not sure how thorough they are about it. However, they were friendly and didn't upsell me on anything so that was a major plus. However, on their board outside, it says $21.95 for oil changes but without explanation i was charged $28. I figured it's still reasonable price so I paid without asking any questions, but I wish they told me why it was $28 so it wouldn't feel like I was being jipped or something. read more
