I went to an auto parts store to see if they could help me loosen the ramp bolt on my mobility scooter rack. They were too busy and recommended I went to Muffler Man. The gentleman there came out to my van to help me and got his WD-40 and a pair of pliers and worked the spring bolt loose so that I could lower the ramp and get my scooter off the rack! I took my car to muffler man in portage, Mi. for a recent oil change. the team there was very professional and fast. I was very pleased.

I took my cars here for the first time. I had a special request to have a resonator delete on my Jaguar to make it sound a little more aggressive. I couldn't find any other local auto shops willing to do the work but these guys welded in some straight pipes for me and it was super clean and timely work. I also dropped off my daily driver for exhaust leaks and they did troubleshooting and a test drive to make sure my vehicle was all situated and they returned the car to me just the following day. The cost was very fair and accurate for the work done. Nothing like dealership rates. Overall, I had a great experience and appreciate the quality and customer service I received. read more

Well, they got my 24 inch rims in lol and not s lot of places do that! Rims as big as mine I have a hard time going anywhere for a front end alignment. They are super friendly, patient and efficient! They got my truck in really fast! Started the alignment and everything went like it was supposed to, I'm very happy with the business! I will recommend as well as use in the future! Close to home and everything ! They have a unisex bathroom, magazines and a water cooler to help with waiting! Although..... they are right next door to chicken coop AND taco bobs!!! So there's that positive part! If you have a longer wait, you can always walk to the Portage District Library or Celery Flats! Like I did!! read more

They just fixed the hole in the one I had and the rest of the parts were fine. Anyone else would have replaced parts un-nessessarily and charged for parts I didn't need!! Did not bleed my brakes after brake work. Caused my front rotors to warp. Almost had an accident. Refused responsibility. Quoted me for master cylinders instead. Car ran fine after I had them bled. Also had muffler done here. They welded on something that does not fit my vehicle. Lots of rattles after 6 mo. After 1 year it was loud and fumes were pouring into the car. had to get the whole cat back system replaced. Trust me don't believe the fake reviews. The one on wmain is much better. read more

These guys have done quite a bit of work on my Honda. Brakes, radiator, water pump, and an AC recharge. Good work, fair, seemingly honest. I think they did a better job of bleeding my brakes than the Kalamazoo location on West Main. Recommended. read more

On short notice I took my truck here for driveline vibration and asked them to also check the brakes as one of the tire stores had advised me that my brakes were very worn when they did some tire work for me. When I got the call to pick it up I asked about their opinion of my brakes. After comparing it to the inspection/estimate from the tire store we wondered if it was the same vehicle they were talking about, especially since it had just had a complete brake job less than three years ago. Piece of advice; If you get an inspection/estimate from anyplace on Westnege, take that vehicle and estimate to as many shops as you can up or down the street. By the time you hit the end of the street you will have a pretty good idea of which shops have your interest rather than their profit margin as a priority. They were so helpful. Even though they went over just to get us in so we can get on the road back home. We needed our muffler put back up and we got in at 5:57 pm and was out at 6:05. Since it was a five minute fix they didn't charge us anything. I highly recommend them. read more

This review is in regards to my experience with Ken and the Muffler Man on Centre Street. I have taken my 2 vehicles to this shop for years and have always had good and what I considered honest service until recently. I have a Jeff Gordon Limited Monte Carlo that I only drive in the summer and store every winter. This is my baby and I know every little noise and sounds that may come from her of which there has been none. I put around an average of 3,000 miles or less a year on it. Last summer 2015 I had a rack replaced which cost around $530.00 which should have fixed a power steering leak. About a month later I noticed drops of power steering fluid on the ground so I took it back to Ken (owner) and told him about the issue. It was looked at by Floyd the mechanic and he said he could not find a problem and told me to monitor it. Well as time went on I started to notice that the drops of fluid was getting worst so, I took it back and got the same story...could not find a problem...well, obviously there is a problem..its still leaking. So, I put her up for the winter and when I brought her out in the spring of 2016 in saw more fluid on the ground and the power steering was whining from loss of fluid. I took it back to them and yes it was whining and the power steering fluid was low...why?? what happened to the fluid...again they could not find anything wrong but, did put more fluid in it. I have always been nice and understanding but, I started having a bad feeling about this whole thing. Even though it was still leaking life happens and I like everyone else have things to do. I had a warranty recall and took my car to Cole's for the work and they told me that my rack was leaking...the same one that was replaced by Muffler Man and after bringing it back 3 times they could not find any problem. I then went back to Muffler Man and told them that the dealership said that the rack that was installed by them was leaking...so, they took a look at it and low and behold the rack was leaking...no shit!! So, they said they would replace it under warranty. I had Floyd the mechanic drive with me in my car to drop me off at home which was about 2 miles away and he drove it back to the shop. My car had no noise or anything wrong with it other than the leak. They also wanted to replace the power steering pump which was $220.00....I told them to go ahead and do it. Later that day Ken called and said everything was all done so, I paid for the pump and drove home but, she was whining like crazy and I thought maybe it will go away after driving for a bit. The next day I had some errands to run and the noise did not go away. So, once again I took it back to Ken and told him that my car is whining like its low on fluid. He came back and told me that the fluid is fine and that the noise is coming from the transmission and that I needed to take it to a transmission shop.WHAT THE HELL!!!! How can I come in here for a warranty repair with no other problems and all of a sudden my transmission has problems. I looked over at Floyd and said hey you drove my car and you know I did not have any noise going on...and he just looked at me like a deer frozen by headlights and did not say a word. Ken then got really rude and yelled at me that I am a mechanic and its your transmission well, after that outburst I got mad and told him I do give a crap .I know my car and the condition I brought it in to you and I also had a transmission flush and filter last year and everything was just fine...as they both looked at me like I was crazy I could tell that they are pulling some B.S here and are not going to do the right thing so, instead of losing my cool and going to places that were not desirable ..I said ok...fine...and left. As a retired Manager and General Manager for places like Mcdonald's, Fazoli's, Circuit City and now with my own marketing agency Unique Local Marketing I know what great customer service means to business and to its growth. So, now not only do I have to pay another $100.00 for a wheel alignment for the rack being replaced but, I also have a transmission issue now that I did not have before which is going to cost me again. My advice to you is to stay away from this place and tell your friends. This has been a costly and terrible experience and I will never return. So, let's see Muffler Man lost all of my future business, from friends and associates that I had given recommendations to and to the business that's going to be lost from my reviews. They get 1 star from me. I do not like to do anything that will hurt a business but, if they deserve a poor rating ..that's what they get. You do not treat long time good customers like that...I have never done anything like that and never would. What do you expect if you bring something in for repair and now you have a new problem that you did not have when you brought it in. After being quoted $1000.00 for exhaust repairs from another shop, I went to Muffler Man and was treated with honesty and respect. The completed repairs were under $200 and very satisfactory. Would never recommend. Had an experience at west main location about 5 years back where I was having a hard time accelerating. They blamed catalytic converter. Removed my original part without showing me the issue and put a aftermarket part on my car. Come to find out I still had a warranty from the Chevy dealership and they requested the part from Muffler man. They also put it back on my car bc there was no fault in it! IKR! Needless to say they refunded my money. I vowed never to go back. 2018, different car, different issue, different location. My boyfriend says go to muffler man on centre . I'm like ehhhh. So my car is shaking when driving, I wait ALL day for an estimate. Then they say, "Oh front wheel alignment is all thats needed". Ok, lets do it. $70. My car is still doing the EXACT SAME THING. He's like "We drove it downtown it wasn't shaking and I was told it was shaking at 35mph" WHAT!!!! I never said that! I just hung up. Muffler Man around the world BAD BUSINESS!
