I am a customer for life! I went in for an oil change. my car is old, and the last place apparently stripped my oil plug. When I was told, I about cried because I knew a dealer would charge me hundreds of dollars I didn't have. But the owner said he would try and fix it. He ordered a special tool, and he got the old one out in a minute flat!!! He saved me at least 300$. He took time he didn't have to, made calls he didn't have to, and did way above the normal he was required. Such a kind man. I would recommend this business to everyone read more

They say a fool and his money are soon parted. Not at Muffler Man. I've been to this Muffler Man location a few times with two vehicles over the last half-decade or so. I need an auto shop I can trust because I'm not enough of a gear-head to answer my own questions. Twice recently I've walked in talking like any crooked mechanic's ideal chump customer: no idea what's wrong, but ready to pay to fix it. Example 1: A year ago I brought my trusty old rust-bucket of a car in for a noisy exhaust. Nobody would've blamed them for simply doing the work I asked, but they did even better. They started with an inspection of the vehicle, and found a number of issues more serious than a mere noise problem. After checking with me, they started tallying up an estimate. Their official diagnosis: they *could* do a couple thousand dollars of repairs for me, but said I'd be wiser to save that money and put it toward buying a new car. Charge: $0. Example 2: Monday I hit a whopper of a pot-hole in my aforementioned new car. It blew out my tire, and bottomed-out my vehicle enough to dent the bumper. After getting the tire fixed the car felt fine, but I brought it to Muffler Man for an inspection, just to be sure the impact didn't cause any trouble. Their official diagnosis: no problems, nothing to fix. Charge: $0. I genuinely believe the folks who operate and run this shop would rather have a reputation for honesty than to have ill-gotten money. That's better than value -- that's values. i usually take my car to the dealer that treats me well... Unfortunately my muffler was starting to make a lot of noise (sounded like a helicopter) and on a recommendation of a friend, and the dealership, i took it here to get the muffler fixed. 30 minutes later, some friendly conversation and $65 my muffler was fixed and I was on my way. Salt of the earth type people. Very good and very honest. I would highly recommend. read more

Avoid this business at all costs!! A very very long story short. I paid them for work, the "work" was the worst I've ever seen( they installed my muffler underneath my frame a few inches from the ground). I had to bring my vehicle in numerous times to get it done properly and fix things that they missed. About a year later my exhaust falls off because one of their welds fail. They refused to stand by their work and tried to charge me for a whole new system saying that this is the expected life span of an exhaust system when my last pipes lasted 13 years. Also an employee mentioned to me that he remembered my vehicle because he broke the back bay windows out with it... Not very professional. There are many good mechanics in Kalamazoo. First time going there and the only reason I went there was because of the good reviews. As soon was I walked in there he was so rude. I still asked if he could take a look at my truck because the "Reduce Power Engine" light keeps coming on. He said he wouldn't be able to look at till Monday. I didn't mind the wait. What I did mind was how rude he said it. He literally yelled at me. I understand he might be stressed but that is no way to treat others. read more

My wife took her car here based on yelp reviews. Steve was very honest with her that her brakes should be good for another year or so and recommended a tire shop to help with a minor problem he noticed. I called Muffler man on, Riverview Dr., Kalamazoo, MI, for assistance and got someone by the name of Andy, POOR customer services, I have never called a business and got such poor response OMG. He said that I could bring my car down there and leave it if I could find a place to park, because their parking lot was full. and they don't do appointment, or I could come down there and wait and see is they have time then he said they are a first come first serve. I would not refer any one to this business! read more

This is the worst auto shop available and the lady at the front desk is very rude I had schedule appointment I waited for that 2 weeks my car has been there for 2 weeks now they tell me it's 25 cars in front of me it's been a month I plus on top of that I had to bring it back because they didn't fix it right the 1st time and they over charge read more

These guys at the W. Main location are so super wonderful. They've done all the work on my car since i moved to MI, and are always honest, respectful, and efficient. Once I just needed a bolt tightened and they did it for me at no cost. Another time, a brake repair was taking longer than expected and they gave me $10 to buy lunch with. They are so nice, they have great prices, and I'm pretty sure they have the best service in town! read more

Prices are the best in town, they don't try to upsell you on stuff don't need. They are quick, helpful, all around great experience. Can't recommend them more for just about all routine maintenance and some larger repairs like motor mounts, etc. read more

Extremely unsatisfied with my experience at the 1802 west main st. Muffler Man. I went in for a scheduled appointment, hoping to get my muffler fixed, it had been making excessive noise for about a month. They said they were busy at the time, which was understandable, so I left and expected a call within the next couple of hours. After waiting for three hours I called them back and they hadn't even started working on it. I decided to just show up because I needed my vehicle. When I walked in about 20 minutes after my phone conversation with them, they had finished inspecting the issue and had a diagnosis. The person who was helping me was named Doug and he said that in order to fix the issue they would need to order a new muffler which could not be done until three days later. He proceeded to try to break the issue down to me, which I appreciated, but he spoke very quickly, and did not do so in layman terms whatsoever. He then said that a different issue they found was that my "breaks are at 10%". This confused me because I hadn't had any problem with my breaks and had not even brought them up as a potential issue. He then proceeded to say "the total will be about $429". I asked him if that was including the breaks and he said that was just for the muffler issue. At this point it was clear to me that he was trying to rip me off. Adding insult to injury, he then said "I'm happy to take people's money". He didn't even say it in a sarcastic way, and there were other customers in the room!! It honestly felt like he was trying to get over on me and he was guiltless in letting me know. The next day I went to Munro Breaks and Tires on Stadium drive, and they charged me $129 for the same part and same work, except in two hours instead of what would have taken three days at muffler man. read more

For such a crappy day with having to sit for hours while my car got fixed, and knowing the hit my bank account was going to take- Mike, and the staff made a pretty terrible day actually good. :) They fit me in as I didn't schedule an appointment and my car was not drivable. Mike insisted in buying me lunch, and even offered to lend me his car to get to work if something major happened and my car wouldn't be done before I had to go into work. You don't find service like this anymore! The mechanic took the time to show and explain to me what he was doing and what was wrong with my car. Just from talking with Mike while I waited I found out that they do things by the book and for the best outcome from the customer, and not just to get money. Honest auto repair shop - most think that is just a myth! Not here! Awesome job making my day bright even though my circumstances were miserable. :) read more

If I could give them 0 stars I would. DO NOT GO TO THIS MUFFLER MAN LOCATION. I took my car to this Muffler Man location in October of 2017 for a thumping noise I noticed when turning the wheel. After the inspection, I told the owner of Muffler Man to fix everything that was wrong on the list he gave me. I got my car back a few weeks later expecting everything to be fixed, but instead there were engine lights on that I had never seen on before. I went back into the shop and asked why those lights were on, and the owner and his wife told me that they had it in their original notes that the engine lights were already on when I brought my car in. I knew that was wrong because I never saw those lights before, so I told them that was not true. Finally, the owner admitted that he damaged some of the sensors when he was fixing the original problem and that was why the lights were on (so they lied when they told me that they had it in their notes that the lights were on when I originally brought my car in). I left my car in the shop AGAIN for another few weeks for the owner to fix the problem that he caused and when I got it back again the lights were STILL ON. He refused to fix what he damaged because, in his words, I was a spoiled brat, which he screamed in the waiting room in front of customers. After I left, I got a phone call from the owner telling me he was wrong for what he said, and he apologized for calling me a spoiled brat but he still refused to fix what he caused. I then had to take my car to another shop to fix what the owner of Muffler Man broke which costed me even more money. I took the owner of this Muffler Man location to court and won the case. He owes me a large sum of money that I have still not gotten paid (it's now October of 2019 - 2 year later). I found out that I am pretty far behind on the list of people that are suing him for similar issues. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone unless you want them to break your car and rob you of your money. read more

Steve and the Crew have demonstrated their honesty in dealing with our family of cars over the past five years. We have brought them more than one challenge, which they met head on and within or below budget. Where they have not been able to guarantee the delivery date they have been honest about it and were quick to alert us. Where a simple repair, versus a complete replacement, was in order (on an aged vehicle) they did so, where they could have simply said "this is what you got to have and this is how much" and made more profit. If you are looking for incredible quality work, from some of the most honest, humble, intelligent and truly compassionate people out there, look no further than Muffler Man on West Main.  Admittedly, my knowledge of auto mechanics is poor, a fact which many other auto shops may have tried to take advantage of, charging excess amounts for unnecessary repairs.  Steve and Robin (and the rest of the team at Muffler Man) were beyond kind, welcoming and helpful in resolving my car troubles. Having recently moved to Kalamazoo from out of state, I called Muffler Man on a recommendation (a recommendation I am grateful for as well).  Even though they were already booked a week out, they didn't want to turn me away without a reliable place to go, so they asked me to come in anyway. I arrived to a little shop in a less than glamorous part of town - but don't let the looks deceive you, this place is truly a gem!  It was clear that the team was already overwhelmed with work, and as I later found out, one of their mechanics was in a terrible accident, so they were not only short staffed, but emotionally overwhelmed, too.  Despite all of this, they focused their attention on getting the job done for each of their customers, including me! That same day, they had me in and out, free from the stress of car troubles. For the first time ever in an auto repair shop, I was brought back into the garage, and physically SHOWN what was wrong with my car, was instructed where to listen and what I was hearing, and was then told a perfectly detailed explanation of the options that I could pursue, and how important each thing was. Not only was I included in the decision-making process, but I was NEVER nickel-and-dimed. It was about making sure that I was happy and satisfied, at the lowest possible cost to me. Honestly, I cannot say enough good things about this shop, or the people there. Just go there and find out for yourself. Truly some of the sweetest, most genuine people I have ever met. I had a, 1989 "White Pontiac 6000" that was in excellent condition when I bought it three years ago.The engine only had "62,000 miles" on it and there was only one owner prior to me. I trusted only Muffler Man at 1802 W. Main with the maintenance of my old car. Steve the owner and the other workers helped me to feel safe 3 years ago with my 1989 Pontiac car in their care! But, something went "terribly-wrong" three weeks ago! Steve wanted me to let my old car go. He lied about not being able to get "Brake Rotors" for my car, telling me that "Noone sold the parts except on the internet." He said that it would cost me eleven-hundred-dollars ($1,100) to fix the brake problem! After keeping my vehicle for almost a week, he advised me to invest in a car that he could "sell" me. I did not do what he wantedme to do, therefore, when I picked up my still broken car, a Scrap Yard business that I decided to sell my car to today, dicovered that someone had stolen a valueable part from under my car, the (Catalytic converter)! This of course has something to do with the exhaust system and is worth (used) one-hundred dollars ($100.00). Muffler Man, owned by Steve, stoled mine and gave me back my vehicle thinking that I would never find out what they had done! THEY ARE DISHONESTED AND CANNOT EVER BE TRUSTED AGAIN WITH ANY OTHER VEHICLE OF MINE! "Beware of THEIVES!)
