I went in to get breakfast for my crew at work. They were pretty slow as it was right at open. The waitress gave me the menu and at first glance it seemed very reasonable on the prices. I ordered the sausage rolls, full Scottish breakfast and a couple other breakfast entrees. The food was fresh and fast and the portions were very healthy. I'm not Scottish but if that's a breakfast then I might apply for dual citizenship. It came with 2 eggs any style, tasty beans, toast, sausage, bacon and ham. I would've ordered gravy but I didn't even need it. The others enjoyed the food too and it was great! Can't wait to take some friends there after a long weekend of camping. I met a friend here for breakfast and I am so happy I did. Such a cute little place. The server was efficient and friendly and came right over and took our drink orders. I had coffee and my friend had unsweetened tea. The coffee was good and she said the tea was good too. I ordered the Sunrise Skillet Eggs and grits. It came in a little cast iron skillet and it was way too much food for me so I had leftovers. It was a delicious meal. The coffee was also good. My friend and I had a lot of catching up to do so we talked for a long time after we ate. Our server checked on us several times but she wasn't rushing us. This place is a "don't judge a book by its cover" winner. When you drive up, it may not look like it is going to be much, but you are in for a very good surprise. We wanted a good breakfast for a good price. We got an amazing breakfast at a good price. I had the "Smoked Salmon Irish Boxty Breakfast" and let me tell you. It was phenomenal. The flavors fit so well together and the sauce is wonderful. Don't be fooled by the size. It may not look like a lot, but it's so filling! My mother had the "Sunrise" Skillet Eggs. They were cooked very well, the eggs were fluffy, and good flavor. The only warning we will give, the tiny (and adorable) skillet it comes in, keeps the eggs very hot. The grits were great, had good flavor. Because we like to try things, we also got the small pancakes and the Parmesan fries. The pancakes were great. They were fluffy and made well. The Parmesan fries were amazing. Good seasoning, just the right amount of Parmesan, and didn't even need ketchup. Lastly, our drinks were adorable too. We were nervous when we first walked in because there were no other customers (12pm on a Tuesday), and the interior isnt the most up to date. But a few others came in soon after us. My wife and I stopped in while visiting Carson Newman University. I am a sucker for a catchy name and this one was intriguing. I had the Bangers and Mash which was awesome. I had trouble finishing the whole thing. Quaint location in a strip mall. Be aware there isn't any alcohol. Second time visiting the Mug. Both times were delicious. They brand themselves as Scottish/Southern. Originally they were only breakfast and lunch but I believe they are now open for dinner. As a born and raised Tennessean, I will say they have really good sweet tea! The potato soup is probably some of the best I've had and the sandwich was also really good. A great place for lunch! The food is quite delicious, and everyone in our party of six enjoyed their meals. The mac and cheese is some of the best mac and cheese I've had at a restaurant. Desserts were a little lacking. The sticky toffee pudding is not a true sticky toffee pudding. The cake was not soaked in sauce, the sauce did not taste of toffee, and it was not served warm. The steeplechase was a bit frigid, but served with three portions--plenty to share! The raspberry dessert was very good. The environment is clean and welcoming. The music is a tad loud which made it difficult to have conversations with out party. Overall it's a great lunch spot and I would recommend it! read more

A totally unexpected experience. Being from out of town (Ohio, Indiana, S. Carolina, weyre having a "girls weekend". We had no idea of what to expect and from the location it looked like a it was going to be nothing special. However, we were well received and accommodated for a group of 10. The menu was more extensive than expected and the service was great. All of the food was great, the portions were more than enough, and we were well satisfied with everything aspect of the restaurant. Our waitress, Tiernan, was superb. Mug & Mason is one of my favorite local restaurants. I go there as often as possible, even if it is just to pick up some soup to go. The owner/chef and staff are wonderful, and the food is outstanding. Among my favorites are the rustic potato soup, the Classy Lassie sandwich, and the biscuits and gravy. Although it's a small restaurant with a very small staff, they are often quite busy and yet we always get excellent service. read more

We live here local, and are really glad to have Mugs and Mason here in Jefferson City. We eat here all the time, for breakfast, lunch and supper. My husband has had just about everything on the menu. He has not had anything he does not like. My self, I prefer to stay with the same thing which is the French toast. It's a family owned restaurant that values family. It has Scottish food mixed with some southern flair. If you're a true Scotsman they have Haggis and Bangers. The staff was friendly.
