I'm a sucker for old-school bars such as Mulberry Street bar. Been around for 100+ years and still has that vintage look and feel. Add in that many famous movies and TV shows were filmed here such as Donnie Brasco, the Sopranos, 9 1/2 Weeks, Law & Order, The Godfather, Tulsa King and others make it a must stop when in Little Italy if you're a fan of mafia movies and crime series. With its black and white pics on the walls in in the front window this place oozes history. I've enjoyed a few pints here which were fairly priced, but have not ordered food. After a day in Chinatown we wanted to see little Italy as well, lucky for us it was a quick walk, we got to take it some sights, but then it started raining so we wanted to find a place for a drink. My sister in law found this bar, and we were lucky to find a table for our whole group! We hung out and caught up, since we all live in different parts of the country. We came here before a dinner reservation to waste some time. At first I thought it was a cool old school bar that may be our new spot prior to dinner. However, that quickly changed. The staff was fine personality wise. I can't say that anyone was rude, but they were not incredibly attentive. One of my friends ordered a tap beer and when he tried it, he was let down. He thought it tasted like 3 different beers, maybe from not cleaning the tap often. He also had a small reaction to it, as the beer he specifically ordered doesn't give him a reaction, but most others do, kind of confirming the tap may not be cleaned regularly. He did let the staff know and they did take the beer off, which we thought was nice. We also ordered water and 3 cocktails. The cocktails were fine, but incredibly sugary and pretty small, almost having us questioning if there was much alcohol in it. I am not one for a strong drink, but for $15, I at least want to know I paid for a cocktail and not a soda. We never got the waters unfortunately, so I can't say much about that. They also took forever to give us the bill and take the bill to swipe our card. The atmosphere was fine. They had TV's with like 2000's mixes playing, which was fine for me. Definitely a fine bar if you want to pay a lot for a drink you aren't happy with and if you want possibly unclean tap beer. I'm not sure why it's listed as a "Dive Bar" on Yelp. It's not that. They serve brick oven pizza that doesn't disappoint and their eggplant rollatini is generous and delicious. The jukebox has all of the classic Italian standards (Sinatra, Dean Martin, Luis Prima, etc) as well as Disco tunes and the best of today's music. On Saturday night's, DJ Vinnie provides the best entertainment with his top notch music and karaoke tunes, he's a phenomenal host and a big draw to this very memorable one of a kind Italian clubhouse. As everyone says, this is a beautiful, classic restaurant and bar from the bygone era of Little Italy. Even though tourists love it, you will find a few of us low key locals hanging in the corner bar chair, or maybe laughing at a with other neighborhood people, as we wait our turn to sing a classic crooner tune, on those occasional special karaoke nights. Real and authentic history that we locals, and you tourists alike, are lucky to still be able to experience. The ambience is like no other, the food is tasty, the drinks are good, and all is affordable. And there is no other stand alone in bar in Little Italy, when you consider Little Italy as Mulberry St.! Also, the only Italian bar, locally-owned, and from the Old World era! There are classic oil paintings of the original owner, Tony, lining the bar. If you catch me here one night, I can tell you about the painter who made them, who used to live in a loft on Broome St., and also painted religious murals for Old St. Pat's & Most Precious Blood. And yes, both classic and modern movies and t.v. shows were inspired by their incredible visuals and filmed here! That being said, I have some words for those who like to nit-pick and make people miserable courtesy of Yelp. If you are miserable in general, it's unfair to project that onto struggling small businesses. Especially as I write this during our NYC summer of limited pandemic dining. Businesses in my neighborhood of Chinatown and Little Italy are HURTING. Limited hours of operation, reduced table capacity, and reduced staff due to budget cuts after being closed for months. Servers and restaurants owners are running around twice as hard to serve you, basically busting their asses harder than before, for much less money. You really, really, truly do not have to focus an entire review on a "rickety table" or chair. I promise you! There is a review here about someone bringing a party of 7, with a least one child, where they complain about a rickety table after the staff accommodated them by pushing together two tables, while full to capacity. This is a bar. A bar that serves food. There are no stationary table or chairs. Nor are there booths. Tables are moved around. They are moved to accommodate larger parties, and to make room as places fill up. You barely even see the part of their review where they say the staff was sweet and accommodating them as best they could, and that the food was good! Instead, they harp on the fact that it was one server's first day, the damn rickety table, and that the two owners bickered briefly over an order of french fries. Please! Everyone has to start a new job somewhere, someday. Cut them some slack. The server still stayed sweet despite having your group as customers! And I am absolutely positive that this french fry incident (already sounds ridiculous) didn't last for more than a few minutes and would hardly disrupt the evening of the average diner! Bickering happens, places get busy, customers are demanding (Hint: this means YOU.) As a regular and a local, I have never seen the staff nor owners behave unprofessionally. I know the owners personally, and one of them went to school with my mother and aunt in their childhood. They are gracious and accommodating to customers, as is all of their staff. And maybe it would help if you were Italian, and a restaurant owner to understand this family business dynamic, but regardless, you should really let some things go and cut people some slack. It's truly a healthier and happier way to live! Some would even see a small disagreement as another slice of authenticity, as a noteworthy touristic experience. And something spilled on a child? Was the child sitting still in their chair, anticipating that a dish would soon be placed in their range of movement, directly in front of them? Hmmm. No, I wasn't there, but I certainly have enough experience observing children in adult spaces like bars. Even though Mulberry Bar serves food, again this is primarily a bar. A bar that serves food. I don't care what your reason is for bringing a child to a bar, but I promise you that the other bar patrons are always annoyed by your oh-so-precious child, rather than being amused by them, as you undoubtedly assume! read more

The Mulberry Street bar has been around for well over 100 years and in that time has had only three owners. The current owners are sisters And they couldn't be sweeter yet it was uncomfortable to see them bickering in front of customers. (One sister gave a free order of fries to customer and upset the other sister) There were seven of us that came to eat and we wanted to sit outside. They took two tables and put them together. Unfortunately it seems the majority of their staff are new and don't know the restaurant business or Italian cuisine so it made this meal and experience Very challenging. The tables didn't lineup so one was crooked aunt table was wobbly I asked them to please fix it after trying to do it myself. It took 3 different people to try to fix it and it was still crooked (unfortunately there were no other tables for our size to go to). When the waitress served one of the appetizers it spilled all over my friends child. I told them the table was crooked but didn't realize they had not fixed the problem completely and needless to say we were pissed. We ordered ravioli, a few pasta dishes, salads, Clams and drinks. All the dishes were good. The waitress we had was sweet But it was her first day and I don't think she was at all ready to be taking tables yet! Mistake after mistake across the board was being made from bringing the wrong food, not knowing what's in dishes and having to leave to find out, not getting first drinks because she forgot. Although everyone was very nice This is a business and the service was incredibly poor with a Capital P! I am lucky enough to live in Little Italy and I've been coming here a minimum of once a week, sometimes more with my friends. I have become friendly with the staff and owner. I've tried many different items here and have loved them all....it's hard to choose a favorite but I do gravitate most often to their fusilli with pesto, ravioli, meatball appetizer (GREAT meatballs and sauce) pizzas and the Basilico. It has almost become a standing joke with the owner who makes fun of me for never knowing what I want to eat. My answer to that is it's her fault for offering too many excellent choices! This is located in the middle of little Italy. We've got a spaghetti and meatball to share. Worst spaghetti and meatball that we've had. Meatball was so hard and it didn't have any flavors. And spaghetti was also hard, it seemed like it wasn't cooked long enough. Sauce tasted like it came out of the can. Service wasn't the best either. Waiter was not attentive.. This place has horrible service, the food was decent. The price on the menu isn't the price you pay because they increase when you get the bill. The menu stat gratuity is included with a party six or more which is a lie. Even if you're less than six a gratuity of 20% will be added. Be ready to pay almost 4% more than what's for no logical explanation. Ask to speak to the manager and the one who came stated they were in charge was useless. Paying a Credit Card surcharge is one thing when it's stated but being added to the bill without notice is another. All his reasons given were pathetic excuses and the staff is slow and unresponsive. All their reasons are without merit and do shady business practices. Wouldn't recommend anyone to this establishment. There's so many more good true authentic Italian restaurants in NYC without the shady business practices. If I could give them 0 Stars I would because that's what they deserve. I was with my girlfriend's family overseas doing some sightseeing around lower Manhattan on Christmas Day and we wanted to stop somewhere to grab some food. Limited with our options, we decided to stop at Mulberry Street. I applaud the owner and workers at Mulberry Street for being open on Christmas Day and I was surprised by how packed they were. One thing I noticed is that almost everyone that was there was tourist, given it was Christmas in Manhattan but still a bit shocked. Along with the massive amount of tourist it was difficult to find a spot to sit and we had to sit ourselves even though the server said he would sit us. We ordered two different types of pizza and they were the largest size. We were expecting for the price we were paying and selecting the largest size that the pizzas would be much larger than they were. We were disappointed with that and with the quality. All and all if you are trying to grab a bite to eat and don't have any other options I would stop at Mulberry Street, if not try somewhere else. read more
