Of course everyone has to enjoy an Irish meal and drinks on St Patrick's Day. After my wife and I stopped in the Muldoon's in Ledgewood, but it was jammed packed and had a long wait time for a table. We went to their Rockaway Mall location and walked right in with no wait. The staff were friendly and everyone was in a festive mood. The place was clean and much more comfortable than the other location. We got a booth and placed our order...Shepherds Pie and Fish & Chips. The food was great...delicious crunchy Fish and not saturated with oil, that you usually get at other places. Our waitress had quick service us and we enjoyed the gentleman on the bagpipes as we waited and during our dinner. Definitely will go back, even when it's not St Paddy's Day!! read more

We entered from the mall and my son (31) was very skeptical because we were lost in ladies lingerie trying to find entrance (I had not been there in many years) but I convinced him to try it over other more popular chains in the mall for lunch. Greeting was excellent, pub vibe was great, sports on TVs. Service great. What surprised him the most was the menu and the food. He wanted to "play it safe" w/ a wrap. Turkey BLT wrap w/ sweet potato fries. Rated it 5. Plenty of turkey and bacon. I try to stay off carbs, had an amazing portobello mushroom w/ricotta, mozzarella cheese baked in marinara sauce. SO good and huge portion for an appetizer. Definitely a meal. I wish we lived closer (we only went for Apple Store). I admit that I focused on the "Steakhouse" in the name and was clueless as to the remainder until I walked in the door. Reality quickly hit, this is not a Steakhouse but rather an Irish Pub that serves large quantities of Jameson Irish Whiskey. I stand by that initial impression, but it proved to be a wonderful experience. I decided to join two fine local fellas at the bar as they critiqued the under-performing New Jersey Devils effort on ice. The bartender was quite friendly, and inquired why I was in town, somehow she knew I was passing through. I can reasonably assume Muldoon's is a place locals frequent. I decided to have a glass of Cabernet; now admittedly I am aware it is not wise to order wine in an Irish bar but the palate dictated a touch of the grape. I asked my new friend the Bartender about the steak and what was her favorite. Immediate she came forth with a strong recommendation, the Hanger Steak. That was new too me, but I decided to follow the pro. I had the side salad and was it fresh and tasty. When the Hanger Steak came out it looked delectable (see pic). My ratings are always related to expectation and having been to the sister restaurant in Ledgewood I thought I'd give the Rockaway Mall restaurant a try. Our server Erica was friendly, professional and knowledgeable and overall the food was good. We had the perogies which were served with sour cream, onions and bacon and were flavorful. Not homemade but good regardless. Caesar salad was very good as was the hanger steak and the sirloin steak. Hanger steak was cooked perfectly and served with the Muldoons signature fries which are great and my steak was served with the baked potato which was also very good. What a sleeper. Nearly every thing I eat there has been good. I eat here 2-3 times a week every week. The soup is amazing and home made. It changes daily. Wraps and sandwiches have all been good. Wait staff is very friendly and attentive every time. The pizza is great if you like their type of pizza. For what you pay this place is a steal. The actual feel in the pub is well a pub. Muldoon's Pub is just ok. Nothing at all is special about this place especially the food. Even the French onion soup was off, I don't know how a place that calls itself an Irish Pub can mess up a crock of French onion soup but they did. It was definitely topped with the wrong type of cheese that never melted it just became gummy. I needed a knife to cut at it and even that didn't work. Not good at all. The Parmesan Crusted Chicken salad was ok but when it first came to the table there was no balsamic dressing with it. My server didn't check if everything was ok so I had to wait till she reappeared. Not her fault I think this place is understaffed. I suppose if you're in the Mall and looking to take a break and grab a cold one this place would be an option but I wouldn't make a visit just to come here. read more

Had a hard time tracking this spot down after spotting it on the mall directory and went to go investigate. It's located on level one in Macy's just past the lingerie section. And while it's listed as a steakhouse, I gotta say it's definitely more of an Irish Pub than anything else. Came by myself and posted up at the bar. Plenty of TVs to keep you distracted. Bartender was attentive and also not overly talkative if you didn't feel like chatting up a storm. Definitely a handful of locals that seem to come through but never felt unwelcomed at any point. Price point is pretty reasonable. Most of the starter & entrees will run ya around the $10 - $15 mark. They do offer steaks in the $20-$30 range which seemed pretty reasonable. Of the several beers I ordered, you're looking at $6 a pint. Not bad. I ended up going with the french dip while I was here. At $11 you get tender roast beef with mozzarella and a decent au jus for dipping. Also comes with a choice of side with just about every side option you can think of. Ended up going with the sauteed veggies which seemed to be doused in butter. Tasty and maybe not so healthy. Not sure what it was about this spot, but even though it was kinda grungy. Been coming here for years- every Wednesday night. Menu has been getting much better (I think the chef from the other Muldoon's that closed is now here full time). Granted it was Valentine's day this week, but the dinner menu had: Tortellini, Tomahawk Steak for two, Prime Rib, Seafood Stew, Potato Gnocchi, Steak and Ribs, Porketta Bruchetta, Chicken Parm, Swordfish a lobster and crab ravioli and other goodies. (I took a picture of the menu to show my wife so this is almost too much info, quite a change from the past specials). I can't believe I am the first one to write a review for this restaurant even though its been open for years, now I know why? We were a party of 4 and went here on St Patrick's day 2018 at 2:30 pm. There was a special St. Patrick's Day over priced Menu that day and we ordered from it. (Price gouging on the holidays) after leaving I saw there full reguler menu on yelp which was cheaper for the same items. So I called them up and asked them why, they said, so what if we charge more, its a special holiday. They take advantage of customers on this cultural and religious celebration held on the 17th of March. We all ordered French Onion Soup it was salty and I would never order it again. The main courses we ordered were Corned Beef & Cabbage which came out look warm, Chicken Pot Pie and two orders of the Steak & Guinness Pie but there was NO Steak, it was beef stew cubes, also the menu said it was served with mashed potatoes, never got any of that and only realized it came with it when I took the menu home to write this review. We all agreed the food was just mediocre at best, flavorless, sub standard, cafeteria style food and non of us were excited about the food. Two in my party have been here before and said it use to be better and the place has gone down hill and they have not been back in a couple of years. I would never go back, it was just a waste of money, I feel ripped off, never again. Do your self a favor and go else where. read more

Thanks.. But No Thanks... Stopped in for a beer on St. Paddy's Day.. Arrived about 1ish.. Not very busy or happening, which should have been my first clue.. If you're a so-called "Irish Pub" and you don't have people lined out of the door on St. Paddy's Day, you're doing something incredibly wrong.. So, we decided to sit at the bar... I ordered a pint of Black and Tan - they were out of Bass.. Second clue.. So, I asked for Yuengling instead. Beer was not very cold and tasked very flat and skunky.. Gross.. So, there's my third and final clue to up and leave... and of course the manager - who I assume was the manager, told us the kegs were just changed yesterday.. And I love when "Managers" are on their phones texting away... Guess that's why nobody was here at this Irish Pub on St. Paddy's Day. Giving 2 stars due to the fact that I didn't eat anything, so I can't comment on their food, but I'll never come back here - I'll go elsewhere if I'm Jones'n for a pint whilst at Rockaway Mall... This is a diamond I have overlooked for too long. It is out of the way and mostly out of mind. I was looking for steak near me and Muldoons popped up and I figured why not. I was in for a huge surprise. Not overly crowded. Inside and outside seating. and the food was incredible. Ever order Chicken Franchise and it has no flavor, not here, you taste the lemon and seasoning in the home made francaise sauce. I had the seafood cakes and truth be told, I was expecting your average Krab Kakes and I was surprised when the cakes had whole shrimp and scallops in it. Not ground, WHOLE. My family an I went to muldoons on April 24 2021 for dinner. I can't state how horrible mistake this was. We got there about 6pm, it wasn't very busy but it still took close to 2 1/2 hours to get our meals. My filet mignon and roasted potatoes were so over cooked, dried out no flavor. The presentation of the food was worse than a fast food place. I sent my meal back and waited for another hour to replace my filet and decided to take the French fries instead of the so called roasted potatoes. They were no where's near the roasted. They were so over cooked and far from roasted. When I got my second meal I had it wrapped to go. The filet was flavorless and still over cooked. Medium well means pink, it was so over cooked. I've been to this place many times and wonder why I still keep coming back. I think I just keep thinking it's got to improve. I was wrong.Ever wonder why all the 3 other good restaurants in the mall area: The Olive Garden, Buffalo Wild Wings and Red Robin are always PACKED with a line out the door and this place always has plenty of seating? There's a reason why. They always screw up orders and the staff couldn't care less that you are there. They can't cook a steak right to save their lives. I ordered their special yesterday - Prime Rib, medium and it came out well done! Really? Not the first time this has happened and our waiter completely ignored us (again, not the first time) most of the meal. This place is good for a simple burger and beer, and that's only if your waitress or waiter happens to pay attention to you. I've been saying for years the Rockaway Mall completely drags behind other malls in getting more full service restaurants that serve alcohol. For the longest time, The Olive Garden and Muldoons were the only games in town and everyone just goes to Olive Garden because Mulldoons sucks. Just check the difference in attendance! Finally we got 2 more: Buffalo Wings and Red Robin but we should also have a couple more like an Outback and a Chiles or Cheesecake factory or Maggianos (Bridgewater Mall has both the later two ... see what i mean) and catch up with other malls. We used to go to Muldoon's in Ledgewood a lot and when it changed owners everything changed and we stopped going there. Within the last year the original owners are back along with the original chef. The food is great and the special menu is always very good and makes it a hard choice of which of the specials to have. Their ribs are also delicious. I would highly recommend this place. If you went before the original owners were back do try it again. I don't think you will be disappointed. read more

over-priced glass of white wine is $7 which is insane. I originally wanted the taylor ham egg and cheese sandwich on the menu. I asked the waiter if the egg can be scrambled instead of fried. The waiter asked the kitchen and they said NO, which I find very strange. So I ordered a BLT instead for $8 which is ALSO over priced. Muldoon's is located inside the mall. It's connected to Macy's. We were on our way to a different restaurant when we were told it would be 1.5 hour wait. Since we needed to catch a movie as well we called ahead to here and they said "No wait". That was red flag #1. So we met another couple who were already seated (which we realized after) and the host(ess) was no where to be found. Once we located our friends, we sat down in the back. Muldoon's needs an update. It was dark and just had that feel of dinginess. The bar area was small (sitting at actual bar) but there were small tables around it. Fully stocked. Apps: Onion rings (which they forgot to place the order for us so we scored a comp order at entree time) and pierogi's (sauteed with onions and bacon) were actually the best part of the meal. They give you only 5. Entree: The wife had a wilted lettuce Muldoon salad. Very disappointing. I had a bacon cheeseburger which was disappointing as well. The fries were very good. The burger had a metallic taste to it. It was cooked correctly but everything else was a fail. Service: Good. Refilled our drinks promptly but were quick on the draw a couple of times on taking plates away. We weren't finished with our meals and they nearly took our plates 2x. Prices: Average. Just about average for another "Irish Pub" concept buried on the bottom floor of Macy's. The prices were shockingly high for the type of fare offered. So, be prepared. We went for the fool-proof turkey burger with fries. Clearly a frozen patty, frozen clear coated fries...but cooked fine. The service was attentive and polite.
