Years ago, when Mulqueen was located on Arizona Ave I purchased my Miele vacuum cleaner from an employee named Brian. Since then, Mulqueen has moved to their present location but no longer sells vacuum cleaners. However they do offer parts from a demo vacuum Miele model, which they are willing to sell. I stopped by and a kind staff lady brought me the part but unfortunately neither of us could easily slide the telescope wand handle. She was honest and said it wasn't worth purchasing. I wouldn't have bought it either and appreciate her transparency. While I was there, I browsed through the sections of the store. I discovered embroidery machines, quilting patterns, supplies and a room full of fabrics for sale. I'm sure this will be a source for goods for patrons of Joanne's Fabric and Craft stores. It is sad that Joanne's is closing 800 locations after filing bankruptcy this past January. If I sewed or did any of the above I would be excited to visit here-but I'm not the sewing type. i even find sewing a missing button on clothing a chore! I am happy for those who still have places like this to shop at. read more

I am currently visiting from out of town in the Chandler area. A friend took me to the Mesa store today. I have nothing but good to say about this store. The employees were friendly and helpful. I had interaction with the cutting lady, man who helped us search for long arm needles, and the checkout lady. All could not have been nicer and more efficient. I'm often unimpressed with quilt shop employees at the cutting counter, but this one rivals my shop in FL which also stacks and cuts. Selection and price spoiled me for pretty much any other shop around. I appreciated the very large variety of fabrics and beautiful colors. It was easy to walk around the aisles and see what was available. If you live in the area and need to feel your fabric before buying, why would you go elsewhere? Definitely recommend. I don't have the energy to go visit the other two of this franchise in the area, but if I lived here, I'm sure I would. read more

I took my machine in to get fixed and they told me it was going to be $150 so I said it's only a $400 machine let me figure out what I want to do hang on to it and I'll call you in a couple days well then they sent me texts saying the machine was ready for pickup I just figured they were tired of holding it for me so I went to pick it up and he says it would that be cash or charges and I said for what and he said for the repair and I said no I asked you guys to hang on to it until I figured it out figured out what I was going to do and with that he takes my machine in the back undoes the repair that he did and hands it to me which I thought was pretty crappy since he had already put the time in to fix it it was just a douchebag move read more

As a younger customer, I was met with condescending and judgmental treatment instead of help. Extremely disappointing. They answer your questions with snarky remarks and a rude tone. Very unwelcoming to say the least. They should consider hiring some nicer ladies who actually want to do their job! read more

I have an opinion of what attracts customers: the environment, staff, and type of interactions a business should promote to maintain positive customer relationships. I am leaving my highest rating for the Mulqueen Tempe location. Brian, Janet, Maddie, and Darren work to create a unique environment for their customers. The environment is clean, well-lit, and welcoming. This is important to me as a customer. When I walk in the door, the business is not chaotic or intimidating; it is relaxing and invites you to explore. The classes offered at Mulqueen Tempe are what originally drew me into the store, along with the wide-range of Brother sewing and embroidery machines. At Mulqueen Tempe you will find very reasonably priced classes taught by the top industry teachers that have thousands of YouTube followers. These classes are cutting edge, and to substantiate this, the classes provided include use of a Brother Luminaire sewing and embroidery machine for participants. Supplies are provided, and for all-day classes, lunch is included. Prices are very reasonable considering all of these details. Staff: Janet is an expert quilter, and her superior knowledge of products, color, and materials is impressive. She helps customers understand tools, interface, thread, and fabric types. What is great about Janet is that she waits for you to ask a question, never assuming you don't know what you're doing. She gives you the room to learn, gently steering you in the right direction. Brian is a positive, helpful manager. He helped me find just the right machine for my goals. He is always kind, calm and busy when you walk into the store, without a hint of chaos. Like Janet, Brian's energy promotes a good environment for the customer. He also knows a lot about the machines the store sells. This is important to me as a customer. Everyone wants to shop at a place that provides a good experience. It is about connecting to a place and time that will bring a customer back. Trust me, this is an expensive hobby, so you want customers that can afford to participate to come back, not find an online equivalent. Brian, Janet, Maddie, and Darren work to make the shopping and learning experience a good one. I have chosen to leave a top review for Mulqueen Tempe instead of leaving a poor review for Mulqueen Mesa. Although Nancy in the fabric section is a delight, I still cannot recommend Mulqueen Mesa due to the chaotic environment that I find stressful and unfriendly. I will not elaborate except to say that not all Mulqueen locations are equal. Do not miss Mulqueen Tempe just because you were turned off by a different location. Go to the Tempe location. Enjoy a class. Meet the staff. I think you'll be pleased, and probably, go back again. read more

I wouldn't have even known this shop existed if it weren't for Yelp! I did a search for fabric stores and this was a promising looking place to find a fabric I needed for a project. I called ahead and asked if they had it in stock, which they said they did. So I headed on over. The shop is around the corner hidden behind the Picazzo's and a holistic health center. The store itself is a fairly large size and offers sewing machines, machine service, and vacuum repair service in addition to selling fabrics and notions. The fabrics themselves are very neatly arranged and easy to browse through. Unfortunately the fabric I wanted was not actually sold at the store, I was shown the thread/yarn version of it instead which wasn't what I was looking for. Browsing through the other fabrics though, they had a pretty good selection of various materials and patterns. I was particularly wowed by the awesome and beautiful selection of batik fabric they had in stock. Prices seemed decent for the quality, although I wasn't able to find out how much any of the fabric in the very back section was on my own; usually there's a price tag on the cardboard center of the bolt. Although I didn't find anything for my project I'm glad this shop exists as a good option if I need a more common type of fabric or cool print for any future fabric endeavors. EDIT: Based on the owner's response, all fabric that doesn't have a price marked on the bolt is $6.95. Good to know! read more

I really miss shopping here in person. It was my happy, wonder around place. I'd come home with a stack of fabric and new patterns which made me happy. Now, I've shopped online during COVID, requested curbside pickup, and it was a great experience. It took me a bit to find what I wanted, but it would have taken me the same time in store, because I get distracted by all the beautiful high quality fabric. Since I know fabric is high quality and had no qualms about purchasing online. I placed my order, paid with PayPal and checked out seamlessly. Got a confirming email letting me know it would take up to three days to receive my order as there may be store-to-store transfer that needed to happen. To my surprise, my order was ready in less than 24 hours. I pulled up, called the number provided and in less than 30 seconds, my order was at my car. I can't wait until my local Mulqueen's is open. Right now I feel like curbside pickup is the safest option for me. Thank you Mulqueen's for offering this service. I feel safe shopping with you. read more

This review is for their Tempe store. Mulqueen's has a fabulous fabric selection (very reasonably priced and better than any other retailer in this part of the Valley), as well as countless supplies for quilting and other fabric arts. I've purchased several machines from Mulqueen's (as well as had machines serviced). I find them helpful and interested in making sure that their buyers are making an informed decision. Suggestion for the Mulqueen's management: I wish that Mulqueen's would venture into apparel fabrics. I don't believe that there is any place in the Valley that carries higher-quality apparel fabrics. Please consider making your Tempe store THE place in the Valley for such fabrics. read more

I have never posted a bad review about a quilt shop before, but unfortunately this is well deserved. Yes, it was a big, well-stocked store, but I found the prices to be higher than I am used to seeing. Employees were also terser than I am used to meeting. However, the biggest reason for my rating is that I purchased two kits during my visit. When I opened them to begin working on them as Christmas gifts this year, I discovered that they were not at all as pictured on the front. For instance, in one of the kits that they personally had packaged in the store, they substituted hot pink for pastel lavender. That's a pretty big change! The way the supplies were put into the package, it was impossible to know about that switch without opening everything up. There is no way that sort of change should be made without making it obvious on the outside of the package. When I called, I got the "too bad; so sad" routine and was told that people normally tear their kits open right away instead of waiting until they're ready to make it for a gift for the next Christmas. Really? Basically, the person I was talking to tried to make it my fault that I wasn't happy with what they put over on me. I didn't make my project right away, and I didn't tear it open to examine it before I dashed to the airport. Silly me! It's just that I have never had a shop put something other than what was advertised into a kit before - and that's my fault??? If it wasn't bad enough that I spent a lot of money on two kits that aren't what they said they were, the fabric that was included runs like nothing I've ever seen before. Because I use a lot of pre-cuts, I seldom prewash fabric anymore, and I can't remember the last time I had a bleeding problem. This kit included laser cut fusibles. Since some portions of it simply could not be pre-washed, I felt it was wiser not to wash any of it so shrinkage rates would be similar throughout the project if it was washed later. When I put one of the fabrics on my ironing board, spritzed it, and pressed it, it badly stained a nearly new $40 ironing board cover. The cover had to be washed with color remover to get rid of the transferable stains and shrank too small to be usable, so has to be replaced. And after four trips through the washing machine, the offending kit fabric is still saturating two Color Catchers per load with excess dye. As I said at the top of this review, I have never left a bad review for a quilt store before, but this is very much deserved. My first visit to this shop robbed me of $150. I'm not going to be foolish enough to go back again, especially since I found other shops in the area with cheerful, friendly service, perfect kits, and lovely, dye stable fabrics. Should you choose to go to Mulqueen's, my recommendation would be to avoid their kits or insist on seeing the contents before purchasing, and to only purchase brand name fabrics on well labeled bolts from them. read more

I would recommend Mulqueen's to anyone considering purchasing a sewing machine. I also had my other machines serviced by them about 2 years ago, again superb service. They serviced my 20 year old machines and did not try and sell me an upgrade, just did what I needed, which brought me back this time, because i knew I could trust the company I was choosing. I appreciate Mulqueen's more than I can say! I have purchased several machines from Mulqueen's over the years. Sewing machines, embroidery machines and most recently Sergers. I've taken classes and attended one of their big Embrodery events. I have a small business and I depend on my Juki MO 2000 for my livelihood. So this week ( being one of the busiest weeks of the year for my business) one of my machines started acting up. I took my machine to Mulqueen's Mesa. Ken personally looked at my machine, diagnosed the issue and repaired it for me in one day! I am back up and running. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your families business. What a complete pleasure it is to sew on a well serviced sewing machine! I have had my machine for over 20 years and it has never been serviced. Boy, can I tell the difference ever since it was serviced at the Mulqueen on Kyrene in Tempe. It runs smoothly, the stitches are even and perfect, and it operates as if it were brand new. This is a TERRIFIC store for fabrics and machines. If it wasn't for 35th Ave Sewing and Vac in Phoenix this would be 5 stars for sure--so I've updated my star rating. (Not their fault that 35th Ave is the size of an airport runway.) I've been to sewing and quilting stores all over the country and this is definitely among the stop stores. There's an excellent selection of fabric and I especially loved the way they displayed the panels. Prices are excellent for top quality goods. We recently dealt with Brian at the Tempe store and purchased a Brother embroidery and sewing combo machine. His customer service was absolutely excellent. He highly recommended the machine we purchased for ease of use, and just as he promised it is super simple! Additionally, we were looking to purchase a specific set of embroidery thread he did not have in the store. Brian went through the trouble to get it delivered from the warehouse so we could have exactly what we wanted! We were very close to purchasing a machine from a different store and we are so glad we stopped by and met Brian prior to making a purchase. Update...first time I used my machine after getting it back, the light quit working and I noticed that the needle threader was not lined up correctly. I took it back to have those 2 things addressed and was told today that it would be $300+ to fix the light if they could even get the board it needs, since it is 20+ years old. The light was working fine before they serviced it. I can't help but wonder what happened during service that caused the issue with the light. They didn't pressure me to fix it, and even suggested a light strip since the machine works great otherwise. Just frustrating. read more

Well... From 5 stars down to one star !! How does this happen?? When you drop off your Hoover shampooer for repairs and don't get a single phone call in the two months that it's there. Every time I called they had a different story. Then I went to pick it up. They said they had done the warranty repair but it needed other things that were not covered. I would've been happy to pay for those items if they had called me and let me know that they needed to be repaired. Then I get the machine home and it still has the exact same problem that I took it in for two months ago. So I call the store to resolve the issue and sit on hold for 10 minutes only to be hung up on. This is how you go from five stars to one star. Not sure if this is a chain or a single owner but this is how you put small businesses out of business. You crap on your customers and don't do the work you say you're going to do.then hang up on them. Seems like a great business model to me! read more

I am fairly new to Mulqueen Sewing Center only because I live so far from a location. However, my interaction with them has been stellar. They are a family owned business yet deal with big name vendors. I have been attending their online Barn/Anniversary event. They have brought in so many diverse vendors for us. It has been so much fun this week and I am sad it will be ending tomorrow. I have learned about many new products, how to better use some that I already own and been shown so many fun patterns and other products to make my hobby even better. I hope that they will continue to offer virtual classes even after this unfortunate Covid situation because I live so far away. After seeing everything offered this week there are several virtual classes I would sign up for. Plus I just joined their online sewing club. I'm so happy! read more

I would NEVER recommend ordering online from Mulqueen. Their fulfillment and customer service are horrible. My last three orders have been missing product. Each order I've had to contact them two or three times before someone has gotten back to me. When they do, they all but accuse me of stealing from them. Seriously, the items were all small items (Tru Grip, pattern, die pick) and didn't amount to much money; but hey, I paid for them, I should get them. The final straw was today. My order arrived and an Accuquilt cutting mat came folded! It says right on the packaging that the product should be stored flat and never folded. That's almost $20 down the drain as the mat will never be flat. I tried using a blow dryer to flatten it out, but to no avail. Do not trust them to ship what you order! read more
