    Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup

    Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup

I contacted Roto Rooter because I had a downspout that was causing water to overflow onto my porch…read moreand drive areas rather than just down the pipe. I knew Roto Rooter had a camera service (from previous experiences, also their work was good tho expensive) and really wanted that to tell what was going on vs just blasting the issue with water. When the technician arrived, I told him about the issue and he said that he would blast it with water and then someone would come out with the camera to check the job. I guess I was tired because this was the opposite order of what I wanted. He quoted me a price of eighteen fifty. I was surprised it was this cheap, until he clarified that was $1850. I balked at the price and he throws in a coupon ($100 on their website) and says if he's fast enough he may be able to cut off another $100 (he wasn't). At this point, I assume I'm paying for the camera pretty much but that's what I wanted so I went with it. Service as described with 2 notable things. First off, he asked if he could use my water. This is a general peeve of mine because never is there a discount for using my utilities, it's just something service based companies do. Secondly, after he blasted he dug up my lawn and found a long since buried pop out drain. This is where the water was supposed to exit from and after clearing it you could see it was weakly doing so. However, I am informed the popout drain is broken and needs replaced. Camera guy will do the follow up. So camera guy shows up later in the day (different technician) and runs the camera. Apparently the blasting did not do the job and there are roots in the pipe in the concrete section. In addition, the part of the pipe in my yard section (by the popout) is collapsed. So he banters back and forth some numbers for pipe replacement (including concrete digging) and lining. I'm hearing values like $3k, $4k and he says it can be up to $10k. Lining supposed to last around 15 years and new pipe 25. Sort of shook at this point, I tell him I need to think about it and discuss with SO. He says that's fine and to let him know and if we answer within a week he can reduce the job the cost of the water blasting (again). He also admits they could blast again but this might not work and ultimately may damage the pipes further (e.g. such that they can't be lined). Ultimately, we decide to go with no concrete digging but yard digging. He writes us up a contract and it comes to over $8k. I contact him and ask since much higher than the lower numbers I heard cited and he says the numbers he was quoting were individual things and it's a sum cost. He says he will reduce some but if he goes further he'd need to clear with his manager. He also says the lining cost is mostly materials (not from them) so can't be reduced very much. I suppose I should have pressed him but I felt very much like I was dealing with a used car salesman and just wanted this work done. I definitely had sunken cost falliacy at this point because there was a big hole in my yard as well as pressure due to not wanting to get charged again for the water, which I will say feels like a bit of a scam (i.e. if I walked away here, they basically got almost 2 grand for me for accomplishing nothing). They got it down about another $1k. The digging and lining job itself was pretty smooth. They asked if they could use my electricity (argh) but after seeing no super easy plug they used their own generator(!). One of the guys was smoking but didn't leave any butts around. As advertised by the camera guy, the lawn did not look good afterward. He said he would send them back to come seed as contract stated but as far as we can tell they never did. But they did admit to not being landscapers. After all this was done, I realized that I had gotten a quote from a plumber long ago to check out and blast this pipe for estimate of ~$450. I have no idea if they had a camera (afaik Roto Rooter is the only company who advertises one) and what they would have done if not. So at the end of the day, I do feel like I got a good job done but paid dearly for it. All that drama aside, I will say the communication with the company itself was pretty good. There was some pushing for their app and a regular maintainance service but not heavily even by the camera "salesman". TLDR; if you like high quality work but paying for it (e.g. medium to high income bracket) as well as negotiating with people and having the feeling of paying for a companies equiptment this is probably the company for you. If you have a small job, almost certainly there are better companies, maybe even for big jobs. I am still ultimately unsure I made the right call so I am giving 3*.

If I could give them 0 stars I would. Yelp makes me give them 1…read more Terrible experience. They are liars and are excessively overcharging for items they know insurance will not pay for. Our insurance adjuster told us that we are not the only people he has seen them overcharge. Do not use them They will tell you that insurance will cover everything and that they will work with insurance. They just did the work and submitted to insurance without authorization. We are getting charged $1k for ppe for worker to drill 8 small holes and a 3inchx3inxh square and vacuum the dust. Also, I was 7-10 feet away the whole time. They neither warned me of hazards or offered me PPE. Please do yourself a favor and stay away.

Kramer & Sons - Main water pressure valve replacement

I have a Sewer Line Repair and Water Line Replacement Service Contract with HomeServe. After my…read morewater line was replaced under that contract in July 2019, there was some major settling in the yard, almost to the point where I thought there would be a sinkhole under the sidewalk. I called HomeServe (who also were great and responsive) who sent out Kramer & Sons to check the area, scope the sewer line to see if that was the issue, and to check to see if a water line leak was the cause. Holly at Kramer and Sons called me back and got things scheduled. She was efficient, knowledgeable, personable and funny! The good kind of funny. :-) She let me know what would happen and when. My scheduled window was 7:30-8:30am. Hurrah for small windows! At 7:28am I got an email letting me know that someone from Kramer & Sons was on their way. There was a live tracker that estimated their arrival time of 7:52am. The tracker seemed a bit off, looking like they were stuck in Springfield (there was bad traffic there), but they made it here by 8:02am. Juan and Reggie showed up and got right to work. After coordinating with HomeServe, they ran a video camera through the sewer line and found that it was not straight -- it had shifted up in one section by 1-2", causing a backup in the line. Additionally they found that the water line replacement backfill had not been done properly and was causing the depressions in my yard and sidewalk. Juan did a great job of walking me through all the issues and they are reporting their findings back to HomeServe. I was thrilled with the work they did and how they did it. Since this work was done under a service contract, I'm not sure how much it would have cost me out of pocket. But their communication and workmanship gave me a lot of trust in Kramer and Sons to the point where I'd call them again for an out-of-pocket job.

At the end of the appointment, the technician brought up a $60 visit fee, which was unexpected and made me feel obligated to pay since it was not disclosed upfront. While the technician was respectful, the assessment felt incomplete. He did not enter the crawlspace to evaluate sump pump placement (the main reason for the visit), and I later learned the information provided about the hose bib location was incorrect. As a first-time homeowner who is very detail-oriented, I found the lack of transparency and thoroughness disappointing. In addition, the estimate was so overpriced.
