The only downside is that it can take awhile on hold on the phone to get an appointment time. This is a very nice branch of the library. After visiting a number of the other branches, I feel lucky to have such a large branch close to my home. My toddler really enjoys the kids play area. This branch also offers a lot of different programs through the week for children and older adults. I haven't been to any of these, I cannot comment on the quality.

But I can think of three reason off of the top of their catalog to keep going here: 1. Flamer by Mike Curato 2. Beyond Magenta: Transgender Teens Speak Out by Susan Kulkin 3. Heartstopper, by Alice Oseman You don't have to travel very far from Brookwood Parkway to find people who want these books taken out of kids' hands or incinerated just because they're unwilling to have conversation with their own children or unable to cope with what those conversations might mean. You don't have to pretend that it's only the burden of far-flung portions of the state to deal with those who'd prefer to ban books than discuss their context or meaning. In the library's backyard, there are folks with a friendly smile on their face and a cup of coffee to sell you who'd have each of these books removed expeditiously for specious reasons while outright slurring the people depicted within the pages. Granted, they call a lot of these same good folks neighbors, clergy, employees, family, and "friends" while taking their labor, payment, and tithes, but I guess letting people reach their own conclusions about their stories is the step they won't take. Well, many thanks to the Hillsboro Public Library for offering these books to anyone willing to read them. A library is often a first step along anyone's journey of self discovery (someone in the comments figured out they wanted to make horror movies, and started that walk here), and offering them the freedom to do so is a foundational portion of a public library's existence. Instead of closing that road, more of the library's neighbors should come along for the trip.

I've recently started checking audio books and books on Kindle through the Libby app. I love it! I love that they do different events. I've taken my grandkids to family friendly events. Last week I had to check out the current artwork being displayed. I was mesmerized by the Warrior Women Portraits by Danyel Rogers. I received an email that there was an artist reception being put on for her. Many of the subjects of her photographs were in the audience. The reception was nicely done. I hope to make many future events!

This library has many different spaces available in order to get your school work done; whether it be solo or with a group. There are six floors in the library, half of them are quiet study and the other half allow talking in order for group work to happen. There are quite a few private group study rooms that are available for rent to students (be sure to reserve these way in advance during mid-term and finals weeks). The library has a whole slew of computers as well as several print stations. The print stations are hooked up to web print so you can conveniently print from your own laptop. There is a reference desk located on the second floor. If you don't know where to get started in this large library. you should stop by the reference desk first. I've also had a bit of luck having them help me with my research. These librarians went to school to learn how to research things, go take advantage of their expertise! I also enjoy the various views I can get depending on which side of the library I decide to it on. If you sit on the east side of the building (the front) you have a nice view of the Park Blocks and a beautiful tree that grows right in front of the library. If you head to the west side you get a view of the football field. I have had much entertainment from watching everything from soccer and football practice to martial arts practice and cricket games.

It was a sad excuse for a library, but it probably reflected the area's previous bucolic nature. It was reported that, about 25 years ago, the Sunnyside corridor was mostly berry farms. The Happy Valley Library is in a building that is newer and far removed from the mall and the major junction of Sunnyside Rd. and I-205. In a way, this is good and bad. It's good because the location is bigger and newer, but a lot of the catchment area for this library, such as the patron base who lives closer to SE 82nd Avenue, doesn't have the ability to get around, and needs a library's services can't get here as easily. I don't remember what used to be in this newer, larger building. It wasn't designed as a library from scratch, though. The Happy Valley Library is comparable to the West Linn Library of the Clackamas County System in its size and level of services. However, the personalities are very different. This one is very spacious and open, while the West Linn Library is cozier and has more nooks and crannies. The service here is about on par with that of West Linn's, where it is good but a little cool. Is there a connection between gray skies and books that makes library employees more somber? I once walked into a library in Las Vegas only to be greeted with a "sunny disposition." I'll stay on topic. Also, this library is located in an area that appears to be "planned," with a shopping center in front, and a traffic circle with small businesses and park-like features around it. Simply stated, this is a very good neighborhood library.

Seems geared toward kids -- 75% of the stacks are picture books, early readers, etc. And a good portion of those are bilingual and non-English materials (mostly Spanish). There's also a play area (play kitchen), duplos, bins full of board books, and coloring pages. And, yes, there is a hand sanitizer. The adult section is tucked into one nook -- this is where you'll find fiction, NF, graphic novels, and YA. Like any library there are computers; wasn't too busy on a late Saturday morning. Bonus for easy parking (lot and street) and the park right across the way! We'll probably end up going to the big sibling Brookwood location more often, just for proximity and larger size of its collection, but this branch isn't half bad.
