Toronto keeps surprising me with every visit. This is a relatively new restaurant of around 2 years and one which is close to my heart due to the maharashtrian and mumbai cuisine, a cuisine shamefully under represented around the world. It was positively amusing to hear the chef/cook and the restaurant owner speak in marathi. Indian restaurant industry is dominated by south and north Indian regions. The decor is on brand with posters and art representing mumbai. The menu looked amazing, I had to carefully think about what I want to order. I went with Sabudana Wada and Kheema Pav. My friends went with Dabeli and pav bhaji. I was in food heaven as everything brought out was delicious. I am willing to travel to Toronto to eat here again. I have my favorites, but, this one is special!

Food was really good, the drink dessert was the least favourite ! Busy restaurant , service was good , they need to hire more people only one server for a fully booked restaurant. Very nice restaurant

    Misal pav. So delicious!

We came here today for Mother's Day. It was such a wonderful experience! The service was friendly and pleasant, food was AMAZING and didn't take long to come out. We loved the batata vada and misal pav. My dad said it took him "back home". Dessert was to die for! The tres leches pistachio dessert was fantastic and so was the Mother's Day special mango mousse. We are Maharashtrian's and have been waiting for a true Maharashtrian restaurant in Toronto. This place delivered! My cousin and her parents who are South Indian also loved it! We will not only come back here but I also highly recommend this place!

The food was good, we had the fish, biryani and vegetarian kholapuri. The biryani was good, but the fish was just that, a piece of deep fried fish. The fish was cooked to perfection, but I wish there was a side like some pickled veggies. The kholapuri was OK. They had the best naans too! They were super soft and buttery. I also ordered a cocktail, and it's really small, with a lot of ice. I would not advise getting cocktails there: it'a cheaper to go to downtown Toronto at this point

Very nondescript outside facade - no sign telling you what it is other than a small "BSC" (for Bovine Sex Club) painted near the door. Hard to miss though as the exterior is made up a punk rock style sculpture of rusted bikes & other assorted ephemera. The interior is similar, visually. Great sound system & chill vibes pervade throughout. Weirdly the stage is right in the entrance of the club, on your left, with a long bar along the right side, heading back. Great, crowd, great location in cool area with lots of restaurants & plenty of parking - both on the street up to 2 hours & extended parking for a flat-rate of CA$20 (~$14 USD) from 6:00pm until the next morning, just 2 blacks away.

Are the beer cans running out? It's possible. But, it's a dive in the way of the old dives. And the acoustics for bands are... not great. But they are a sign of what once was. Without attempting to try to present a front of a time long gone, The Bovine simply exists today as it once did in that time long ago, before Smokes stickers, before iPhones, back when people would just go to a bar to talk with those they didn't know the morning prior. Bring cash though, unless you're looking to make some big orders, because credit card is a minimum fifty-dollar spend.

The best part about The Commie, aside from being one of the city's best dive bars, is Michael Louis…read moreJohnson, the musical barkeep. This man is a treasure--a multitalented musician who plays in many bands including The Lemon Bucket Orkestra. In season, you can catch Michael playing trumpet and singing with a jazz band on the back patio on Saturday evenings (5-8pm). The patio, accessible via an alleyway off Rolyat Street, feels like one of this neighbourhood's best kept secrets. Such a fun, chill vibe back there. Perhaps these Saturday shows will eventually move back inside, where they were held in the beforetimes, when the band sat cheek by jowl with customers in one of the city's most "intimate" performance venues. But whether Michael is performing behind the bar or on the back patio, the man is a marvel of multitasking. He'll perform part of a tune, set the trumpet down as the band plays on, take people's orders, prepare and serve drinks, and then pick up the trumpet and continue the song. So freaking cool. He also hosts a unique music listening event on Monday nights called Decide on the B-Side...don't forget to bring your favourite vinyl. As for the drinks, nothing fancy here, just a decent beer list and hard booze, mostly. But as described above, this bar is so much more. It's chock full of fun and character.

Honestly, one of the strangest and worst experiences I've had at a bar…read more We waited outside patiently for about 25 minutes and once we were finally let inside, we noticed two open seats at the bar and waited patiently to have our orders taken. Instead, the elderly man working behind the bar repeatedly took orders from people who had come in after us while completely ignoring us. He then stepped outside to speak with security, came back in, and told us directly that they were at capacity and he was unable to serve us -- despite the fact that we had already been allowed inside and were sitting at the bar waiting to order. The whole interaction was extremely weird and uncomfortable. If you're at capacity, that's understandable, but then don't let people in and have them wait around only to refuse to serve them. The way we were treated felt incredibly dismissive and bizarre. Would not recommend. Avoid this place at all costs.
