This is my first visit. I don't live in the area. I had a hotdog with ketchup, chili, and slaw. It was very tasty. The service was friendly.

It's not bad by fast food standards but it's never really wowed me, and every place I've been to has always been a super long wait. Unfortunately this one wasn't much better and once again I was waiting a reaaallly long time for my "fast" food. It was a little busy when I got there on a weekday evening, but even considering I was still waiting an awkwardly long time. The manager there seemed to be keeping a good handle on things at least and was professional and polite, so kudos for that. If I really wanted Whataburger for some reason I'd come back here but only if I was ready for a long wait.

The teenage order taker came out from the kitchen area and just looked at me. I finally said "hey, how are you doing". He didn't really respond so I just placed my order. To say he was disinterested is being kind. I got my napkins and filled my drink. The condiment section was lacking salt, so I just went to my table. When the food was brought to me, the employee offered me two kinds of ketchup. Her tray did not have any salt on it either, so I had to ask her to bring some, which she did. Very perfunctory. The burger and fries were just barely warm. The fries tasted fine, but we're nothing to get excited about. The burger patties were thin, dry, and insipid. The toppings were just average. Again, the burger was on the wrong side of warm and did not taste fresh at all. There's just not much positive to say about my experience here this evening. WHATABURGER? Try WHATADISAPPOINTMENT.

Different than "Nashville Hot Chicken" where a hot paste is added after cooking, this is dunked in a tangy, spicy sauce after cooking. Carolina's version leans into a vinegar-pepper flavor that's typical of Eastern NC barbecue. I arrived just before the lunch rush so I was able to get a table near the door where I could enjoy my lunch while watching the queue grow a bit. The chicken was moist and flavorful, still very hot from the fryer. Hot enough that I had to start with a knife and fork to tear it up before I could dig in. My sides were okay. The potato salad was a mush. Pleasant flavor but no texture that leaned into mashed territory. The mac and cheese was good but overdone noodles and no "tang" from the cheese. I'd try other sides next time. Slappy's is consistently rated as a top fried chicken place in a state of great fried chicken places. The concept is top-notch and the chicken was great. The sides let it down for me. [Round number 24500 overall - 945 of 2025 - 4348 in North Carolina]

I get to this little place about once every six weeks. My order is rather boring on the surface, but as I said this place is about keeping it simple, and I do. I get 1/2 chicken (both uppers), I get the superb sauce on the side, along with 2 additional servings of sauce! My sides are M & C and Collards, and I get a small container of vinegar for the collards - the vinegar, other condiments, and other helpful items are up front to the far left of the counter. Once in a while l will get a scoop of their Chicken Salad. There is very little salad here - this made up of 99% diced chicken with a little mayo - the chicken is full of flavor. When home I add a bit of diced celery, a touch of chopped onion, a bit of dill relish, some parsley, a some of my home made curry powder - damn, that rocks! This is good food, good people, and I hope folks will continue to support their efforts.

The burgers are all made to order and if you haven't tried the Walleye when they have it you really should. It's amazing and they always have it around Lent. Today I got a kids meal but this time I tried the grilled cheese instead of a burger. I also got broccoli for my side. When you eat in, they give you the kids meal bag but put your food on the tray. Don't toss that bag though because there are two coupons you'll want to save on there. One is for a free scoop of custard and the other is a coupon you collect until you get 10 of them. Once you have 10 you can redeem it for a free kids meal. My husband tried the Sourdough burger for the first time. He absolutely loved it and said he would definitely get it again.

The shrimp were pretty good though some additional seasonings would help. The onion rings were narrow and there was little real onion to deal with. The cod was also pretty good but was also under seasoned, salt & pepper and hot sauce helped some. The fries were simply ridged The slaw was rich and creamy, helped to fill out the holes in the two entrees. The tartar sauce needs some serious reworking. A good number of food sites and "influencers" feel the seafood here is among the best of the national chains. I did not find it so, rather it was just ordinary! At these prices, I will move on.

Not buttery; flat flavor; and heavy, leaden texture. - Hash brown casserole: didn't expect sausage - who DOES that? As a vegetarian, this was a major yuck. My fault, should have asked, especially since none of the breakfast biscuits on the menu were vegetarian-friendly and my egg-n-cheese was a special order. My dog seemed to like it later, so there's that. - The lady that took my order happened to see me throwing away most of the casserole and asked about it, then showed concern and genuine kindness toward me, far above expectations - this exceptional worker added a 3rd star to my review.
