Really cute place in takoma park. Loved the way the interior was decorated with French influence. They have a pretty straightforward menu with a lot of classic Vietnamese dishes and then some. We were looking for a place with gluten free options and they have plenty here! They even have a gluten free fish sauce which was great. The food had lots of fresh herbs and the staff were really nice at introducing us to some dishes we didn't know. I got the vermicelli noodle bowl and it was perfect for the warm weather. I love this place!!! Have eaten here a few times and even have picked up grocery items they have in stock. You really can't go wrong with the pork vermercelli which comes with a yummy salad mix. Tender pieces of seasoned slices of pork. I also tried an order of their fries which, seriously were the best of the best. Light and parsley seasoned with a texture that is divine. I live up the street and no excuse for me not coming in weekly. I've tried all of the pizza joints and other restaurants in town and this place is the freshest and healthiest of the lot. We are TP regulars and have heard great things about Muoi Tieu. We finally had a chance to dine here for their NYE pre fixe menu. The ambiance was super cute and intimate. The staff were kind and engaged with us to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying the meal. What was so lovely to see was how intentional the owner was with every aspect of the night. From supporting her chefs, to pouring champagne, to checking in with each guest during the night- her calm presence clearly set the tone for the whole restaurant. 9.27.25 I had been wanting to try this restaurant, but I was hesitant because parking is always a challenge for me--I can't parallel park to save my life. On top of that, I'm geographically challenged, so even if I found a parking lot, I'd likely get lost trying to walk back. Thankfully, I asked my husband to take me, and he managed to find street parking close by. Being the foodie that I am, I had already browsed the menu beforehand and knew exactly what I wanted. We arrived right when they opened for dinner at 5 PM on a Saturday. The restaurant itself is quite small. My husband counted about nine tables--some seating two, others four. There are also four seats at the bar and a few tables outside on the patio. From the happy hour menu, I ordered fern cakes, a fried pork bun, fried chicken, and steamed banana cake for dessert. My husband chose a small beef pho, the passionfruit iced tea, and pandan ice cream for dessert. I enjoyed everything except the fried pork bun. Typically, Vietnamese pork buns are steamed, but this one was fried, resembling the Chinese version instead. If it was intended to mimic the Chinese style, I would have preferred it to be sweeter. My favorite dish by far was the fern cake. The prices are on the higher side, especially considering the portions are fairly small. That said, I'd rather pay more for delicious food than have larger portions of something mediocre. I also appreciated that they sell pre-packaged sauces, noodles, chips, and even Sriracha chocolate bars, along with prepared foods like fish sauce, pickled carrot/daikon, and peanut sauce. They also offer fun merchandise such as a Vietnamese book, tea towels, tote bags, and T-shirts. Overall, my husband and I really enjoyed the food. I recently went here for a weeknight dinner with a friend and had a good experience. My friend and I were seated immediately and received good service throughout our dinner. We split the fried chicken and the fern cakes for our appetizers. Both appetizers were delicious, but especially the fern cakes. I hadn't had anything like them before and the taste and texture were both fantastic. I liked the scallion oil and there was also a good crunch. The fried chicken was perfectly fried and had great crispiness, flavor and spice. I got the small chicken pho bowl for my main dish and while I liked it, I would have liked more flavor, even after putting in all the sauces. I would recommend Muoi Tieu if you're looking for an affordable restaurant with a homey vibe. read more

The restaurant seemed inviting from the moment I walked in. I sat at the bar, which sometimes means slow/inattentive service, but this was not the case here! Everyone was friendly and consistently checked in to make sure my experience was positive. I ordered the vegan egg rolls, which were fresh and flavorful. I loved the dipping sauce as well. The bronzino was cooked to perfection! Perfectly crispy on the outside and flaky in the middle. My only complaint is that the portion was pretty small. We ordered the following below: -goi cuon - I thought this was pretty good and fresh and very tasty and there was something inside that was different which was jicama which I got was delicious. - lemon grass chicken - I thought it was pretty good and nice and grilled and moist. I do feel that the prices are a little higher than other places. I would have thought this dish would be a little less. - braised pork belly - The waiter raved about this two people in my party ordered this. I would say that I wish it was a little warmer when served and it was okay. Muoi Tieu--salt & pepper--is one of the first in the DMV serving traditional Vietnamese fare, that isn't pho (though they have one chicken pho), or some fusion thing. In particular, (as certainly Viet customers will attest to) the Thit Kho and the Banh Xeo -- are two family staples in every Viet family, where each has their distinct version. A fine addition to the Takoma food scene and worth a visit. Friendly, prompt service, and a welcoming atmosphere make this restaurant worthy of checking out. The chicken pho was well received and even in its small size, there was plenty for one person. The pork belly banh mi was very tasty as well.. The turmeric tea and lychee mogu mogu were also good. The shrimp spring rolls were eaten quickly (although I don't like shrimp, my companion ate them both). The menu is still quite small and I hope they will continue to add more fare in the future. I would suggest a pork or chicken spring roll with more Thai basil. For the Banh Mi, my suggestions would be instead of mayo to have a lemongrass spread like they use in Hoi An. It would be great if they could get Vietnamese style French bread that it thinner and allows the fillings to be the star. read more

Consider skipping: - We'd pass on the Pandan Jelly for dessert next time as it was not sweet at all to our American palate, but I'm sure it's authentic (I love less sweet Asian desserts, but usually they are sweetened more with fruit or use red beans but with some added sugar). Drinks are basically beer, wine and soda (lots of NA options!), but would love a cocktail addition (lemongrass, perhaps?) I'm watching 2 people behind the counter barely doing any cooking. 2 other people are just standing around barely doing anything and they only have one waitress with no one to assist her. Currently the restaurant is full and it is literally taking them 30 minutes to prepare a vermicelli bowl which is just grilled meat on top of noodles. There is no activity in the kitchen/ grill behind the bar and it looks like folks are just idling and standing around instead of preparing food. They also seem to cater to an American palate because they don't serve pho with beef and barely have any pork entrees. Pork is a major part of Vietnamese cuisine. What an absolute treat to have this new spot (3 months old at the time of this review) in the neighborhood! I've tried 3/4 of the menu and everything always tastes so fresh. A few standouts to me are the Bun with grilled pork (pro tip: order the Cha Gio on the side and cut them up and add them to your salad), the steak chimichurri, and of course the Vietnamese coffee. The restaurant is small but bright and inviting . The menu is quite limited and is split between small and large plates. We started with the Vietnamese rolls which were just ok - the rice wrap was very sticky and the filling lacked much taste. The peanut sauce was fine. For the main courses we chose the Pho (large) and a noodle bowl. Generally, pho is served with a variety of cuts of beef. Here the choices were chicken or tofu. The small pieces of chicken were tender but the broth lacked the flavor intensity of a good pho. May be the base of the pho was vegetarian instead of beef. The noodle bowl with tofu included lots of noodles and a few square pieces of tofu. The waitress recommended that the sauce should be poured over the dish. We followed her recommendations but overall the dish was bland and boring. The flan was quite good. The wine list is limited but the selections are interesting and the prices are quite reasonable. read more
