What a lovely afternoon spent outside in their garden! Mural City Cellars is a Philly winery that started in the owners' garage and expanded into a full-fledged business opening at a space that used to be an auto-body garage in 2024 in the Fishtown neighborhood. They focus on making wines for easy drinking, everyday consumption, using only grapes from small growers within 300 miles of the city. Very much a local/regional endeavor as they also source their other ingredients like charcuterie and cheeses from within a 300 mile radius. Their open garden seating across the street from the winery gives off community garden vibes, there are picnic tables with benches (seating there for around 30-40), a small raised platform for potential performers, space for families with kids to spread out, and a little pavilion with room enough for about 10 people, where some friends had grabbed seats for us. They'd been here numerous times and we all ordered some variety of wine, or in my case beer from the little kiosk in the corner and relaxed under the pavilion for a couple hours. A popcorn pop-up stand was set up for donations to a local cause helping community members to build connections. Being on the warmer side that afternoon, I went with a cold beer instead of wine. My tartbier $8 was a terrific sour flavored with passion fruit and guava, a unique and refreshing combination, you could taste the fruit flavors but it wasn't sweet. Really lovely employees who greeted me and offered to help immediately, beautiful indoor and outdoor seating options and really delightful wine! I tried the house rose and Malbec rose, both delicious but got the house rose. My friend and I sat outside and soaked up the sun and chatted with our wine - so perfect! For our second round we did the rose sangria which was so refreshing and delicious! Definitely a great spot for a Sunday afternoon. read more

Absolutely incredible experience. I went from never having been to the tasting room to going twice in two weeks! To say I am obsessed with the wine, the ambiance, the staff, and the connection to the region is an understatement. I need to give the biggest shoutout to Logan who went out of their way to ensure me and my girlfriends had the full Mural City rundown as first timers. We opted to sit at the bar so we could get flights. I went with a more funky flight (as decided by expert Logan) and also got to try a bunch of my friends rose flight as well. I really enjoyed everything but we all agreed on loving the Sauvvy B. Mural City utilizes grapes within a 300 mile region. We also got to take a look at the backroom where the magic happens. They are clearly about to burst out of their space and I am so excited to see the amazing blends they have coming and how the business continues to evolve. Everything about this place was so esthetically pleasing lol. The warehouse feel showing the equipment was so modern and fly, the furniture and decor was amazing. Yes! Check this place out! Try a flight. Buy a glass, hang out. Very casual relaxed vibe. The servers, owner, staff, winemakers are all very approachable and knowledgeable. We went in September when it was still quite warm and the big front door was open. They have bar stools tables and couches, so whatever you decide, you will feel at home. Definitely my new favorite spot in fishtown. Bottles of wine go for $45 including tax and tip, and you can spend endless time hanging here with any size group of friends. Overall I think MCC is serviceable and achieves what they set out to do, and especially in this particular area it probably definitely comes across better, but I was not feeling it. Weather was nice so out group of 4 sat a high a top. The server / greeter (idk what to call him) came over to explain things. The wine list is on the smaller side, especially if you are not wine club members, and they have a very limited by the glass options. The alternative is to buy a bottle, which usually isnt a bad thing, but this place charges X for bottles to go and Y for bottles for there. This ends up turning a $30 bottle into a $50 bottle. The wine isnt bad, but its definitely not $50 worth (for reference, that would be about $150 in a restaurant), so I cannot recommend coming here if you are serious about wine. However, if your in the area for a somewhat chill afternoon and have a bottle or two split amongst a group, and especially if your into the aesthetic, this could be up your alley. read more

I didn't actually get many pictures of the space or wine, but I loved this place!!!! We went for my friend's birthday one Friday night and it was very comfortable and casual, we had a table big enough for 8 people with seats. The staff was very friendly and helpful picking wines. I like sweet wine so the wine wasn't actually my favorite because there weren't any sweeter options, but I had the rosé and it was good, I just don't usually go for dry wine. We ordered food from the QR codes on the table and the food was VERY good. I got tacos, one order of bone marrow and one vegetarian one with tots! Both super delicious. And they brought out hot sauce for us to put on top which was tasty! At one point they brought out an additional free tostada, which is the picture included. So sweet and nice They change out their chefs, so if you go more than once you could have a different menu which is cool! Check their IG for which chef/food they have. We told them it was our friends birthday and they brought out an Oreo cheesecake and they also gave us "shots" of this sweeter wine mixed with something, I'm not sure what it was but it was delicious and a super nice gesture, which we didn't expect. We were able to check out Mural City Cellars for the first time a couple of weeks ago and had a wonderful time. This is a cozy, little neighborhood winery/wine bar. Inside, they could probably accommodate a small number of groups. We sat outside, where there are about 5-6 bistro sets along the wall, as we had our dog with us. It was a late Friday afternoon. And on Fridays, you can get a flight of four wines for $20. My husband and I each had our own flights. Their pours were very generous, not your typical 1-2 oz pours. The wines in our flights included a Riesling, a Rosé, Chambourcin, and a Cab Franc. There may not be a whole lot of variety, as they are newly opened, and wines take a while to make. More importantly, the owners/winemakers don't always make the same wines. Grapes are sourced within 300 miles of Philadelphia, so it will be interesting to see what other new wines will pop up every now and then. You will see they also feature Community Support Winery (CSW) wines, wines made by other local wine producers, like the Riesling and Rosé we had in our wine flights. All the Mural City Cellars and CSW wines we had tasted great, unlike typical PA wines, which really surprised me. Zo, the winery staff member was very friendly and made us feel very welcomed. She chatted with us about the winery, the different wines, bottle art by local artists, etc. She also didn't mind bringing out all these different wine bottles to show us as we were sitting outside with our dog. After finishing our wine flights, my husband and I shared a bottle of the Touriga Nacional, which ran us about $30. Not bad. There were a few snack offerings including a meat & cheese plate. They may have pizza from a local pizzeria (only on Friday nights) available for purchase, but this is more of a place for wine tasting/enjoyment. They do encourage you to bring your own food. Currently, they are only open on Thursdays and Fridays, but are hoping to be opened during the weekends come next year. Note: The small parking lot in the back is not for customers. 1. The chambourcin is one of the worst wines I've ever had. I'm a lover of a good red and I've had PA chambourcin that I've enjoyed, but whatever they're producing here is not it. I got a bottle and immediately regretted it. 2. If you want to buy a bottle and drink it in house, there's a $20 up charge. This is just an absurd money grab that in some cases doubles the price of the wine. I understand that they probably have an expensive property and some trendy decor to pay for but it's very off putting. Any other winery I've been to encourages you to enjoy their wines in house. 3. Their pours in general are crazy expensive. If you want a way better pour of wine for $4-5 cheaper, just go to fishtown social down the street 4. More of a preference thing, but they serve you wine in what's effectively a rocks glass. Who knew that local and local-ish wines to this region could be so tasty? I have to say that I didn't until about a year or so ago when we discovered this fact at Bloomsday Cafe. Thank you, Bloomsday, for exposing us to this! Mural City is indeed one of these wines - an urban winery right here in Philly - that is incredibly tasty. And supportive of the community as well. They really do have a great operation going. The location itself kind of in Kensington/Fishtown - not sure of where the line of demarcation really is - is super cute, and inviting. As are the owners and their team. Stroll in and pickup a few bottles to go or stay for a few glasses. They have a lounge-like living room for a decent sized group, bar seats, or some tables (and some outside ones when the weather permits). We have tried a number of their wines and I have to say, I don't have anything bad to say. I love that they are local, and we try to support local as much as we can. If you can't make it to Mural City, you can also get their goods at Bloomsday or Art in the Age - this is one way that has made it more convenient for us to grab a few bottles to keep in stock at home. read more

Great spot for drinks after work or on a weekend afternoon. During summertime there are several outside tables on the sidewalk outside. Indoor vibe is cozy and intimate, with some bar seating available as well as a large comfy couch area for lounging. Indoor seating might accommodate 10-15 people comfortably, but don't let that stop you. People often pop in and out for a bottle while others may hang out for a glass or two. Fran and Nick are committed to sourcing local grapes and to helping build the wine community in Philadelphia. They occasionally also offer local spirits and all wine labels are designed by local artists. All of the varietals are locally sourced within a several hour drive and they've produced delicious local wine that blows the suburban wineries out of the water.
