I wanted to give Muraya 5 stars but I can't. I hope the menu and recipes are revised. I think it has potential. I visited a Tuesday night (7pm) in October- with a reservation. 3 adults, 1 teenager, and 1 toddler. Spent $318- including the 20% tip I gave the server. Our service was great! My favorite part of the restaurant was the service. Shoutout to our server Delfina; she was sweet and attentive. Table bussers and food runners were on their game also. We were given what we requested nicely and in a timely manner. Drinks were kept filled and table was kept clear when plates were finished with. It was my moms 47th birthday so the staff came out with our desserts and did a bit of singing with some cute fun sparklers. It was an enjoyable gesture! This lulo cocktail my mom ordered was good. The piña colada was a no for me. The food was lackluster which makes things even more unfortunate since the place was a bit pricey for what you're getting. The website saids "we pour our passion for Colombian cuisine in every plate we serve"... I didn't taste that :( I'm Mexican but my BF is Colombian and said that he didn't find the menu represented Colombian cuisine well... I did not either unfortunately. I can't imagine Latinos frequenting this place to be honest. If it were super delicious I could totally see it but like I said before, the flavors are boring. Several items were over cooked. The octopus was the only dish cooked very very well. The desserts were boring. We got this chocolate mousse thing and a tuile ice cream dessert type dish as well. I find this place to be more of a one time dine to try or for people with large wallets and boring pallets. If I went back it would be purely to drink and for the ambience. I would not eat there again unless I was already there drinking and super hungry (or if menu was revamped). The food wasn't terrible but also not a single dish would make me comeback for more...and just not worth the price...if I wanted to enjoy some food, I would have a much better experience at many other places. A friend and I went to Muraya for brunch. The manager waited on us at first bc our server, Ricardo, was taking care of a table of 10-12 women who thought it was a good idea to pay separately. But the situation was explained, which we both really appreciated. Our server, agaIn Ricardo, was FABULOUS! Great attitude, friendly and a wonderful smile. Hands down one of the best restaurant workers I have ever encountered. Food was delicious. Came here to try out their restaurant week menu with a friend. For my appetizer I opted for the mini crab arepas which were the perfect bite before my entree the Paisa bowl. The chicharron was perfectly cooked and seasoned and the quail egg on top was a nice touch. The mango pudding was light and fluffy and the perfect way to end the meal. There was live music and a full house so my throat is a little scratchy from trying to carry a conversation over the noise but the vibes were still 10/10. Our server was also the absolute best. Went here for brunch with a few friends. Unfortunately I was pretty disappointed. I will say that the service was phenomenal and very attentive- but I was highly disappointed with the food we tried. The appetizer we got had chicken on it- but to be honest was more of a chicken salad type of texture and flavor. They were out of the tostadas we requested- and the overall entrees that each of us had we were disappointed with. The cocktails each of us had were amazing though! The espresso martini, mule, aperol spritz and pina colada were all ordered at our table and everyone enjoyed their drink. I would come back for drinks but would not recommend the food here unfortunately. They are a newer spot- so they may still be working on some things. This was our first time here and we had a great experience. I must start off by saying that our server, Ricardo was amazing. He had a great personality and provided some excellent recommendations. The drinks selection was good and they have a variety of foods that you can't go wrong. We started with the mini arepas and the Croquetas de Posta Cartagenera and shared the fried rice. We topped it off with the sushi recommendation by Ricardo for the Tierra llanera. That was more than enough food for 3 of us. My friend and I came on a Sunday evening, it wasn't that many people so we got seated immediately and our server Chris was very attentive. Since my friend had never been here before he took his time to explain the menu and give suggestions. For an appetizer we had the tostados de chorizo, it was delicious! Then for our entrees, I had the octopus dish and she had the snapper risotto. We both loved it! For dessert, Chris suggested their valentines dessert which is this warm chocolate milk that is poured over a chocolate dome and on the inside was a brownie topped with ice cream. Soooo great! We came here with my wife and family to celebrate her birthday. The food was average -- not bad, but definitely not the best. What really stood out, though, was the ridiculous amount of time we had to wait. It took at least 40 minutes to get our main dishes, and then nearly 50 minutes just for dessert. And this was on a Tuesday, with the restaurant half empty. On top of that, the food is very overpriced for the portion sizes and the quality. Very disappointed with this place, we took our whole family (14) who was visiting to celebrate grandma's birthday and it did not go well. The place is OVER PACKED! We literally couldn't move if we wanted to use the restroom we were literally touching with other people it was very uncomfortable, the food was below average for the pricing, the service was terrible but not the servers fault.. it was too much for her again it was over packed! All our food got served at different times, a few forgotten.. Food served cold as well. Such a shame because the place is stunning and the band who plays is so so good! But overall mediocre food and service, our friends warned us but wanted to give them a fair shot. The manager did try to make it up but it was too late, everyone was pissed and a ruined the night for us. All the tables around us had the same problem. The ambiance was very low light and sexy maybe too low light for be day time but still cozy and nice! The champagne bottle prices were great ($40) for cava and rose. We also heard the table next to us complaining to each other about the wait times to see a waiter. Everyone at our table got served at different times. I've never seen anything quite like this before. The food came out sporadically and my boyfriend got served last of course. Some food tasted as if it lacked seasoning. The last dish to get served was actually the French toast APPETIZER that was ordered as a meal. The food was alright, but the service was extremely lacking. I know this review has a TON of pictures attached to it. It might look like I went here with either a bunch of friends or I came back to the restaurant a different day. Let me tell you.... Neither of those are true. My girlfriend and I came for our monthly "treat yo self" dinner. It's like a pat on the back for getting through all 4 weeks and not losing it hahaha. Charlotte isn't super renowned for their Latin American cuisine, but Muraya may just be the game changer we need and the hero we do not deserve. The place gives the vibes of like an industrial, Amazonian, tradition Colombian style atmosphere with its exposed ceiling, stone pillars, bronze silverware, and coffee brown napkins. The actual plates are gorgeous and feel super high quality. I'm very impressed that what you see is what you get. Nothing feels cheap in this place. We came in on a Monday so it was pretty dead. Not their busiest day by far. Our server, Chris, was quick to treat us like royalty, family, and best friends all at once. He kept it real and was intensely passionate about Muraya's food and mission to provide a good ol' fashion Latino experience. His service was unmatched and always eager to help us make any decisions, since it can be overwhelming at first glance! If you want an unforgettable experience you should look for Chris; a tall, handsome black man with a great smile! His wife is actually the bartender! With these two at play you are sure to have the best drinks and the best times. THE. FOOD. WAS. BANGIN. We quick fired the first three tapas plates so that we could calm our growling stomachs. The first thing to come out was the croquetas de cayeye (see attached). That first bite was like a slo-mo moment filled with a cheesy, creamy, savory inside juxtaposed by a breast, crunchy outside and further smothers with its own pool of crema fresca. I knew that if this simple, delicious dish was this good right off the bat, that could only mean great things were to come. And this is how we ended up eating so much. Every. Single. Thing. Was amazing. Something I have not experienced in a fairly long time. Every bite we took we stared into each other's eyes in total disbelief as if we'd found a treasure so valuable right under our noses in South End. And truth be told, it is just that. This a gem. This is not even a diamond in the rough. This is just simply a diamond. They've only been open since September of 2023 and I cannot wait to see what's in store for them. And the mashed potatoes, speaking as a potato connoisseur, were off the chain! We also had a decent Argentinian malbec and capped the meal with a Nido de chocolate. There were some hiccups which we expected on a busy night however, if anyone in the party mentioned it or asked a simple question he was very condescending and rude.
