If I could give no stars I would. The receptionist is extremely rude! I called to ask if how much they charge for a kids haircut and she replied "you just called here and I told you we don't do kids!" I said "I did not just call you." She said "oh!" and said again "we don't cut kids hair." So I asked what is the age would they cut a kids hair & she said very rudely "I don't know, 14 years!" I must be confused because 14 is still a kid last time I checked! I would NEVER take my kids here even if they took kids. That girl was extremely RUDE! read more

2018, We visit Big Bear Lake often, and have visited Murphy's in the past. This time, however, I was disappointed and concerned. In mid-September, I went to Murphs for a haircut. The older gentlemen, name unknown, had a VERY SHAKY hand using the electric clipper and scissors. I could feel the clipper shaking against my head. I called for a hair cut but didn't realize they had just closed. But Murphy said "get on over here and I'll open back up to cut your hair." What??? So amazing and generous. Then when I showed up shortly after, I got a very good haircut and had an excellent time chatting about motorcycles, the history of Big Bear, etc. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! read more

Horrible, horrible haircut by the lady in the shop. Went back to have it fixed, but that was also a mistake. One side was way shorter than the other and she could not even tell after it being pointed out to her. Had one of the worst haircuts I have had in years here! Recently just moved to Big Bear and after this experience I will not be returning. Rhonda was rude and condisending when I was describing how I wanted it cut.Completely disregarded what I was asking for in a hair cut and lazily took the easy way out resulting in an awful haircut. No thanks. Will not be back. I've been here three times now and every time the place was empty. Maybe if you listened to your customers and wasn't so rude you would have more business. Not surprised. I know we have limited choices up here in Big Bear but I have no problem driving down the mountain and giving someone else my business. Rather than concentrating on everything that is great about The Godfather, a much easier way for me to judge its quality is on what is bad about it. Almost every film has something that I don't like about it, but I can honestly say that I wouldn't change anything about The Godfather. There is nothing weak about it and nothing that stands out as bad. That's why it gets ten out of ten. This is one of those films that made me wonder why I hadn't seen it earlier. The acting from everyone involved is great, Marlon Brando comes across perfectly as the head of the family, and James Caan and Al Pacino are excellent as his sons. The soundtrack by Nino Rota is also very memorable, bringing back memories of the film every time I hear it. The plot has to be excellent for it to get ten out of ten, and it is, it's far from predictable and the film is the definition of a great epic. The film is pretty shocking in the way every death occurs almost instantaneously, and as it spans ten years so many different things happen and every minute of it is great entertainment. It's a well-made and entertaining film that is only the first part of a trilogy, but it stands on its own as a wonderful film in its own right. If you haven't seen it, what are you waiting for? A delightful establishment. The bartenders went above and beyond to make us feel welcome in the small community of big bear. My friend with her itty bitty kitty top finally felt comfortable enough to dance and let loose. 10/10 will be coming back. I have to say the first impression wasnt the greatest. Hubby didnt get a haircut before leaving LA. I used yelp map feature to find this place and it took us to a completely wrong address! The address appears to be wrong on yelp!! When calling the shop and telling the girl about it and asking for help to get here.....found out you go past bowling alley and turn left. I told her yelp is wrong and they might want to fix that and her response? "I dont know yelp". I guess now we know why ours is the first review. ...no one can find it! read more

Local institution, father (Murphy) daughter (Rhonda) men's barber shop where everyone I know goes to get his haircut.

I see that several people have written very negative reviews of this establishment. My experience was very positive. The gentleman who cut my hair did a nice job and also trimmed my beard, making it look neat and trim again, something I haven't been able to master on my own.. It's also worth noting that this was the third shop that I tried. My first stop was at "Barber of the Ville," but it was closed even though the "Hours" sign in the window said it was open. I then tried "Kelly's at Village Hairsmith." They were open, but because the person who greeted me, after I called her attention to my presence, was busy with another customer, she went to a back room to ask if the person there could cut my hair. (I am 65, mostly bald and just needed a buzz cut with a #2 guard and a trimming of my mustache and goatee.) The individual who was summoned from the back room said that she could cut my hair but that she had never trimmed a beard. That seemed odd to me, as she looked to be about 80 years old. She was either new to hair cutting or had a limited repertoire. The first individual said that her daughter could trim my beard. I asked if her daughter were around, and she said that she was at "the barber shop," which, upon asking, I learned was Murphy's. I went to Murphy's and was greeted by the older-than-me proprietor who was friendly, appropriately chatty and did a fine job with both my haircut and beard trim.
