Tonight Murphy's did something truly legendary. In a small room called a "Snug" at Murphy's restaurant, Spike Sikes, amazing violinist Candi and great bass player Ben, put on an intimate concert for about 20 of us. The event was going to be limited to 35 people, but I don't think there was much advertising because there were only about 20 of us. I truly had no idea that DANCE PARTY Spike, known for his great Hot Cakes band, is an incredible singer, song writer and performer of the highest caliber. It was a 2.5 hour performance with one intermission. Murphy's is having 4 of these special performances in April. I can't speak to any of the other performers that will be there other than the one I just watched, but it was truly magical! I also enjoyed one of Murphy's True Irish Martinis! Came in on a Monday around 1:30pm. We got to seat ourself in the patio area. Immediately after we sat down, The server (looked like the bartender) came out and brought us water. (He spilled it all over the table wiped it up and left). We waited about 15 minutes and he never came back and we could see him at the bar. We've been going to Murphy's for years and have been there plenty of times, so I hate to leave a review like this. But what happened yesterday was really upsetting. My boyfriend ordered the pork chop, and when it came out, it had a really strong, rancid, vinegar-like smell. It was so bad that everyone at our table could smell it from where we were sitting. My boyfriend ended up going to the bathroom and throwing up, while I brought it up to the staff and explained how bad the pork smelled. The waiter had the manager come over to talk to us. The manager told us that he had actually tried the pork chop and thought it tasted fine and smelled okay, which was honestly hard for us to understand because the smell was so strong that the entire table could smell it. To be fair, the manager did comp my boyfriend's meal and told him he could order whatever he wanted, which we appreciated. But at that point, the experience had really ruined our appetite, and neither of us ended up wanting to eat much more that night. We've always had good experiences at Murphy's, which is why this was especially disappointing. I really hope this was just a one-time issue, but serving a pork chop that smelled that strongly was really concerning. read more

This ended up being a late night stop for a snack and it did not disappoint. Well, it wasn't necessarily fine dining there was a neighborly atmosphere and everyone was really nice. We grabbed a bar table and had the shepherds pie the truffle fries and brussels sprouts to share, I ended up getting an Irish beer because with us what I do at Murphy's Irish pub. I probably wouldn't necessarily need to go next time. I'm in Sonoma again but for what it's worth we enjoyed it. read more

Stopped in on a rainy Monday afternoon. We sat at the bar and were taken care of they a great bartender. He made my wifes drink perfectly 'less-sweet' as ordered. I got a beer and if was ice cold and well carbonated. After chatting with the bartender we decided to try his recommendation for the Fried Pickles (Frickles). They were great. The pickles are made in house and the breading was good. My wife thought it was a little too much breading and took half off of each pickle. I didn't. :) I thought they were really tasty and they were served fast & hot. The place is a typical irish bar. Lots of stuff to look at and again, a bartender that was great and very friendly. Invited to partake in the Wednesday Trivia contest along with 24 other teams. Had a great meal with some Guinness and catching up with friends. We shared the garlic fries, Brussels sprouts (spiced & delicious) and the beet salad. Service was exceptional and we were very well taken care of. We decided to stop in Sonoma on our way home from a wine tasting in Glen Ellen. We love the Sonoma square and chose a new (to us) place to eat. We got a table in their covered outdoor seating area and really appreciated the fresh air. The two servers we interacted with were both really great - attentive and friendly! We decided to share an appetizer called Irish Spice Bag, which was fried chicken strips, onions, shishito peppers and potato wedges served with a curry aioli. The chicken was overcooked and dry but the rest was fantastic! We also shared a lamb "stew" served with real mashed potatoes and a very savory gravy, also fantastic! (Although listed as a stew, it wasn't really since there were no vegetables or potatoes in it, but no complaints!) Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. Don't waste your good time coming here. I would give this place zero stars if I could. While we visited to enjoy the music, the service was nearly non-existent. We had to clear used napkins and empty bottles from our table ourselves before sitting down. Because the tables were not being monitored, we eventually went to the bar to order. However, the staff ignored us for over 15 minutes while talking amongst themselves at the end of the bar. We felt compelled to order two drinks at once just to avoid another long wait. Furthermore, when a server finally walked through the seating area, she did not check in with us or any other guests before returning to talk with other staff members. Since Murphy's Irish Pub took on new ownership we have learned this place has lost its loving feeling for good service, the food is subpar and beer selection needs help too. read more

Live the bar and selections. I love the Carlsberg on tap. I can't say I'm a big fan of $20 hamburgers. I never got used to that in a bar. Even french fries here are like 8 bucks. French fries. Go to the Fairmont and get their burger if you want the best burger in town and it's only five dollars more. $24 for fish n chips seriously? that used to be the budget food for the poor. I visited Murphy's Irish Pub with friends on January 24th. The place was fairly busy and had a lively atmosphere, especially with the live music outside, which made it feel exciting and welcoming. We sat in the bar area and waited about 5-7 minutes before our server came over. It was clear they weren't fully staffed, with only a few people covering the bar and the outdoor music area, so we ordered appetizers right away. We tried the frickles and the brisket risotto-style balls. Unfortunately, both were underwhelming - I'd give the appetizers a 2 out of 5. For dinner, I ordered the corned beef and cabbage. The corned beef appeared to come straight from a square tin and wasn't what you'd expect from a traditional Irish pub. One friend ordered the Reuben, which used the same corned beef and was similarly uninspiring, though he did say the French fries were the best part of his meal. Another friend had a salmon salad, which was very basic, and the fish and chips at the table earned about a 1.5 out of 5 -- while the batter stayed crispy, it resembled more of a pancake-style batter than classic fish and chips. Overall, the experience fell short on the food side. Everything we ate felt like something we could have easily made at home, especially given the price point. While the atmosphere and live music were enjoyable, the kitchen needs more attention. I hope Murphy's takes feedback like this seriously -- with some effort, it could be much better. This place is a pub but their drink selection is awful. Limited beers on draught and even less in bottles and cans. The hot toddy is anything but hot and only has a hint of whiskey in it. I know this is weird but I just attended the Thursday Night showcase series at Murphy's in Sonoma. It's an intimated room maybe thirty people featuring a musical artist. The food and drink is Murphy's usual fare but you have to eat before entering. You can bring drinks in with you. I felt compelled to alert you to this event because I'm an SF transplant, 20 years now, and I've never had a musical experience quite like this in all that time. It was the most enjoyable music event I've been to in Sonoma County. The setting is intimate, acoustically perfect and the audience is there to listen to music. It's like having a night club in your living room. Performing this evening was Spike Sikes accompanied by Candy Gerald on the violin and Ben Duncan on bass. You've probably heard of Spike and the awesome hotcakes" voted #1 in Sonoma county but this was a different side of Spike. A superb talent: a musician, song writer and singer. He did several of his own creations. Just fantastic. Ben kept the trio on point with his master class in the bass while candy added a sublime musical infusion that carried the music to new heights. Sorry you missed it. But this post is to let you know that if a musician you enjoy is scheduled for this new intimate venue on Thursday night please book it. It's a night you won't forget. read more

Charming, old world atmosphere with a nice bar and decent food. They support live music which is very appreciated. But if you want to eat don't go during the live music because the service is terrible. You have to flag down an overly busy server and tables are crammed together and dirty from not being regularly bussed. The atmosphere during live music feels like a dirty dive bar, definitely not anywhere you'd want to eat food. If you want the live music, just go for drinks and be prepared to order at the bar for lack of decent table service. If you want to eat, go only during non music time and enjoy much better service and decent, hearty food. read more

My husband and my Great Uncle Bill and I had lunch here while we were in town visiting. We were visiting on a beautiful, sunny, day, but even if it happens to be raining, they have a giant clear tent you can sit under and eat outside and enjoy the warm weather! My husband had the Brisket Sandwich. He loved it -- it was spicy and meaty and very filling. I had a bite of it and found it difficult to bite into, but it is extremely tasty! Uncle Bill and I each had the Cillian's Shepherd's Pie which was fantastic! It was served screaming hot, which is how I believe all food should be served and it wasn't oily or messy. The cheese was interesting and didn't overpower the lamb, but partnered nicely with it. Uncle Bill finished all of his food, while I had about 1/4 of mine left. Exchanged maybe 7 words with him, and never even got to ask to place a food item in during the 50 minutes we were there. Despite devoting our trip to wine, we heard this place had Trivia on Wednesdays at 7, and we love Irish food/beer, so we came here for dinner. We sat 'outside' in the plastic tent. It was very busy, with people doing trivia outside and televisions inside for those who were not participating. They claim to have an 'honor system' or a way to monitor if people use their phones to answer questions, but it was not very enforceable with that crowd, esp after what we saw. Not to snitch but..well never mind. The event was well organized with good categories. But it was fun, we didn't win any prizes (just 2 of us on our team) but half the fun of trivia is thinking up names for our team. (I forgot our name by now) The server was friendly and hardworking, and the people were friendly too. We got beer (Guinness), 'frickles', fried pickles, and fish tacos. Very good, the place reminded me of our pubs here. I could have used more heat or warmth, I did not take my jacket off hardly. I was off red meat that week, but if I'm in the area again I'll def try the corned beef, Irish stew, or Rueben. read more

Our first visit to Murphy's in Sonoma. Set up a kind of side street/alleyway in a very unassuming location. It was very hot today so we grabbed a table inside. Staff greeted us immediately and very friendly. Bar to bathrooms very clean -- missed getting a photo of the sign outside the bar which was funny (Men to the Left because Women are always Right). Music playing outside as we left and several people sitting on the outdoor patio (with ceiling fans going) enjoying both the food and the atmosphere. Timely service. Loved everything we had. I had the lamb salad and a Maui Waui IPA. The lamb was amazingly good with just the right hint of mint. The salad was a colorful bit of artwork and every bit as tasty as it looked. My friend had a Bloody Mary which looked amazing and she said it was excellent. She also had a butternut squash sandwich piled high with squash and other goodies -- delish! Highly recommend and will definitely be coming back for more! read more

Went here for lunch. Got the whiskey flight, it was great being able to try different whiskeys that I love side by side. I wanted something on the lighter side so I opted for the seared ahi soba noodle salad. Huge portion of tuna and the salad was very good, but could have used a smidge more salt or soy sauce. My husband ordered the half size of cottage pie. The beef filling had a delicious tomato base. The potato was tipped with some delicious crispy cheese. My husband practically licked the bowl clean.
