A cozy, low key taproom with an impressive selection of beers! My friends and I went on a cold, icy night and were happy to see a toasty fireplace. They are styled as an Irish pub, with warm wooden paneling and bartops. The servers were polite and efficient. They had 124 beers on tap, with plenty of flights to choose from. I got the cider flight- loved the Downeast traditional and seasonal blend (cinnamon, nutmeg), as well as the Citizen Dirty Mayor (ginger). Also thought their meatloaf was moist, with lot much of the flavor provided by the salty garlicky mashed potatoes. Their vegetable of the day was asparagus, which was tender and also salty. If I could rate my experience at a 0 I would. We stopped for some drinks and apps last night and let me tell you it was like throwing away money in the garage for their food. The nachos were BURNT to a crisp, had barely any toppings and just terrible. Seriously, where were all the toppings? The cheese was burnt to a crisp on the SIDE of the plate and a teeny bit on top of a few chips. When we told the server all she said was- sorry. Sorry doesn't cut a $16 plate of nachos. We also got their steak and cheese rolls (meh) and their quesadilla which was also TERRIBLE and had the amount of cheese and chicken of a small taco. Also didn't justify the $15. Food was borderline out of a microwave. Ordered a "pizza" and it was almost inedible. Tried ordering three different things before hand only to learn they were out. How do you run out of potatoes wedges and mozzarella sticks? Also ran out of tap miller lite. Maybe just an off night but not recommended. Staff was nice. read more

I've passed Murphy's Taproom several times, and it's always kind of loud/busy with bikers - but I was surprised how good the food was! I'm not sure if it's because of Covid, but the service was a little bit slow. I think they didn't have many members on stuff. The menu is it OK for a vegetarian, they have a sweet potato burger but I ended up going for a salad. The Irish nachos were really good, the beer cheese was is very unique. We had high hopes but unfortunately it didn't satisfy. They didn't have my husbands 2 first choices for a beer, which he pulled from their printed menu. They don't have a cocktail menu , I opted for a Cosmo with stoli raz but would have preferred to order a signature cocktail of some kind. For apps we got fried pickles, Bavarian pretzels & the nachos. The nachos were HUGE but really dry with just congealed cheese that melted and cooked, it was topped with corn & black beans and served with sides of sour cream & salsa, nothing special. Entrees were a black & blue burger (way over cooked, ordered medium, got well), meat loaf (also dry), buffalo Mac & cheese (spicy and not served with blue cheese), kids burger with fries, cooked decently. Place was not strict on mask usage by patrons, there was a huge party taking up at least 8 tables (20+people) and they were very loud, we sat unknowingly in the middle and we were writhing inches of them. This place was hopping, as it's on the same street as UNH-Manchester, where we were attending a Saturday night concert. They didn't bat an eye when we asked if we could squeeze in anywhere. They actually went out of their way to gather 3 seats that weren't being used and made us a spot at the end of a bar. Our waiter was friendly, on the ball, and ready to get us in/out as quickly as he could, so we wouldn't be late to the concert. I went to Murphy's Taproom with my two brothers for the first time to grab some beers before the Korn show at SNHU Arena. We drove all the way from Tewksbury MA because they had a ton of cheap beers on draft. After the bartender carded the three of us, she walked back over to us, looked at me dead in the eye, said "sorry these ID's are fake," and tried to snap them all in half. I almost lost it. I just paid to get a real MA ID for around $50.00 at the RMV. My two brothers are 23 and 21. They have no need for fake ID's. All three were legitmate mass ID's and this lady thought she could snap them in half on the assumption they were fake. I will never go back here. I've worked in restaurants my whole life and you don't treat customer's like that under any circumstance. That woman should be fired immediately. If it was a guy I would have hopped over the bar and took the license back myself. Again I'll never go back to this crappy establishment. Funny enough, we go to a different bar down the street and start hearing horrible stories about the owner being abusive to his workers, but those are hearsay so I won't post them here. Great place to hang out, have a quality draft beer beyond the standard domestic beers. Beyond pub fair. The California Burger was cooked medium as requested. A good portion of quality bacon :) Avocado spread aka Guacamole, was tasty. If you feel like an pile up of meats on a bun, there is a burger with pulled pork and bacon. :) The nachos are a entree in itself, really generous portion we had ours with grilled chicken, they were decent, standard tortilla chips nothing unique. Huge portion we couldn't finish. Smithwicks on draft...hmmmmm Server was patient and pleasant and made the experience even better. I want my ashes spread at Murphy's when I die. The whole saint Anselm community loves to go to Murphy's for bar events and nights out. They're so connected with the community and are always willing to host events for our school, most recently the women's hockey team did a breast cancer awareness night and Murphy's was so kind to host all of us. The food and drinks here are so good. There is nothing like a blueberry cobbler and a plate of nachos to have a good night. The drinks are cheap and they always have a lot of bartenders on for us to get drinks. Thank you Murphy's for some of my best college memories, see you soon! read more

Great place for beer and hanging out with friends BUT eat BEFORE you get here. Ordered Bangers and mash. One side was hot, the other cold. Then there was a horrible salty, gluey demiglace. Hade the chili and it was so dry, I would not eat it. I mean, who serves dry chili!! You get better at Wendy's. Wings were okay, but again very dry. Three weeks in a row the staff can't get a cup of coffee for my designated driver. The service is consistently bad at Free State happy hour. Keith and company take us for granted. Since the owner replied I will go into further detail. First of all all the cream and sugar are locked up in next building. The waitress was extremely rude, before my friend could ask for a spoon for the coffee, she cut him off and said "you will have to wait". She brought him hot tea instead of iced tea. The pizza I ordered was not up to the normal standards and I ordered 3 beers that I told were unavailable. The prior visits they brought me the wrong beers several times. Came here for the first time a few days ago. The patio was nice, live music was cool (a bit too loud though). My first beer was a down east draft which was perfect but I also got a bud light after which was horribly stale and warm. Service was also not great. Food took forever and the Buffalo wings were like frozen wing dings. The only reason I can't complain is I guess I came during happy hour and my wings and 2 beers were only like 12$. The bar tender was just chatting with a customer at the bar for 10 minutes another 10 minutes went by and the beer we ordered was coming out all foamy so she didn't want to pour it. So another look at the menu and ordered 2 more beers and the bartender came over and told us that they were out of that beer. 30 minutes later we just ended up waking out. consistently the worst food. Poorly thrown together with subpar quality ingredients. Nachos have hardly any cheese chicken that is comparable to saw dust. The interior is an open concept with high ceilings, cherry finished bar area (with large flat panel TVs), cherry finished wood tables & seating (high top and regular), and hardwood flooring. There is also outdoor patio seating out front along Elm Street. My buddy and I stopped here on a Friday evening for Happy Hour, when Appetizers are half price (Monday-Friday: 4 PM to 8 PM). We sat ourselves at a high top table. The server came over shortly and gave us menus. We ordered our drinks (Pint of Guinness, Captain Morgan & Coke) first and then some food a few moments later. APPETIZERS (happy hour prices): Nachos ($4.00 - tri-colored chips baked with lots of cheese, scallions, crushed jalepenos & tomatoes, with salsa & sour cream), Seared Sea Scallops ($4.00 - with greens & balsamic syrup), & Bangers & Mash ($3.50 - grilled thick sausage chunks, chunky mashed potatoes, sauted peppers & onions) were all very good. DINNERS: Shepherd's Pie ($6.99 - ground beef /lamb, corn, carrots, onions, & gravy topped with mashed potatoes & baked) was a bit greasy and filling. The Murphy's Guinness Beef Stew in a Bread Bowl ($12.99 - beef, vegetables, thick Guinness & beef gravy) had the hearty and rich taste of Guinness in a very doughy bread bowl. DESSERT: Individual Pear and Apple Tart ($4.99 - cold apple & pear chunks in a sweet thin sauce topped with toasted walnuts in a doughy shell) was okay, nothing special. BONUS: While we were dining here, the Sea Dog beer girl was walking around the place handing out bottle openers, caps, & t-shirts while promoting the Sea Dog Ales on tap. SERVICE: Good service on this visit. The server asked us how the food was and if we wanted anymore drinks throughout our visit.
