Our family had a wonderful Valentine's dinner tonight at Crown Tavern. I ordered the medium filet mignon wrapped in bacon with a jam sauce, Brussels sprouts, and potatoes, hands down one of the best filets I've ever eaten. It was perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavor. My husband and daughter both ordered the Nashville hot chicken sandwich with fries, which they loved since they enjoy spicy food. We kept dessert simple with crème brûlée with berries, which was the perfect sweet ending. The ambiance was romantic, with dim lighting and a relaxed vibe that wasn't too noisy. We made reservations for 4 PM, and the crowd started picking up right before we left. Our server was attentive and accommodating throughout the entire meal. The crown is a go-to spot. Every time we visit the food & service is consistently good. It's super loud & bustling so that should be the vibe you want if you come for dinner, but I love it. Also, in the nice weather sitting outside offers a more quiet experience. Pizza is amazing but honestly the il corvo salad has a hold on me and I must order it. Add salmon and I am in heaven. They have a great selection of wine, beer and a full bar so there is something for everyone. We bring friends from out of town, go with coworkers and have date night here- it's legit. read more

Easily one of the best restaurant burgers I've had in a long time. Crown Tavern absolutely nails it -- juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The service was solid all around and the vibe is exactly what you want from a spot like this: lively, comfortable, and welcoming. The steak frites felt a bit overpriced ($50) for what you get, but honestly that seems to be the trend around Manchester lately. At that point, I'd rather walk 10 steps over to The Steak House and pay about $10 more for a filet mignon. That said, it didn't take away from the overall experience. Came back to the Crown Tavern before a show at the Palace Theatre. Was so fortunate to have Kevin as our server this time. Jennie and I decided to do sharsies. The wings were excellent-nice and moist with a delicious dry rub. We also got the Strawberry Salad which came out on two plates-very considerate. All of the ingredients were fresh and the combination of strawberries, spinach, almonds, and feta cheese was perfect. We also got a pizza that was a special that evening. It had sausage, broccoli rabe, garlic and other deliciousness with a cream sauce. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and did not feel rushed at all. This place was incredible. I'm honestly sad I didn't grab photos because it was so good. First off, the service was fantastic from start to finish. We closed the place down and they didn't make us feel inconvenient or anything. The server was super attentive, joked with us, made great recommendations, and was overall just a great part of the experience. The food. We started with oysters which holy moly their sauces were fantastic. The server convinced us of the Stracciatella with meatballs and omg they were fantastic together. We decided to share the pasta bolognese too which was so good and flavorful. Our friends got the pizza which looks great and they said it tasted even better than it looked. I don't think this place makes anything bad on their menu. If it was closer, it would be the place I would want to eat out at all the time. OMG this place is good. Came in as a walk in party of 2 on a Saturday evening and sat at the bar with the intent to wait for a table but ended up staying at the bar as it was very comfortable and spacious. Unfortunately I forget our bartenders name but he was a lovely man with a great personality and read beard. We ordered the oysters and chicken tenders to start which were delicious, especially the duck sauce that came with the tenders. The four cheese pizza was ridiculously good, which is a lot coming from me as I'm from New Jersey! The star of the show was the Crown burger with bacon jam ... top five burgers I've had in my life by far. I'm considering getting another before heading out of town. Went to Crown Tavern at 4:30P on a weeknight for dinner, sat inside, not real busy. Waitress was excellent - Molly. Wine was great, meal was great. BUT, I asked if I could have a sample of the mushroom sauce so I could decide if I wanted it next time I came in. Molly said no problem. So our bill was $124 for 2 people...I look at the bill closely and they charged me $1 for the small Sample. OK, so it's NOT the $1, it's the principle. Without notice charge $1 for a sample , for a customer who is already trying to plan his next meal at the Crown Tavern and has spent $123 on 2 meals...simply stupid. PS: The mushroom sauce was very good....so if I ever go back I will get a meal with it. OH, did I mention the noise level? At 4:30PM Absolutely loud enough to make you think twice about going back. Made a reservation for 4:30 on a Saturday, arrived early and seated immediately. We were waiting for our friends that attended the Palace Theatre and hadn' arrived yet. The were still happy to seat us without them. For drinks, our table had a Manhattan, Martiniti and Old Fashion. All the drinks were excellent. Dinner was salmon and Veal Schnitzel. All outstanding. Dessert was the swiss roll which was the best dessest ever. The food was outstanding however, our server, Kiera, was the best. She was friendly, accomodating and excellent at what she does. 2 strange experiences had here over time. They are SO intense about limiting alcohol. I've been twice with large parties and both times we were told we were having too much fun. Once because someone ordered a second glass of wine too fast; another time we had to sit thru a lecture for ordering a second martini (not too quickly, just in general) - they served it but with several warnings... saying no more alcohol would be allowed and that they'd also call their sister restaurants and warn them we may be in the area looking to spend money and having fun. Not an awesome spot for having a great time. Good for like family stuffy crappy times with your uncles and aunts you prolly hate. I have to say this is a very popular spot on a Saturday and I really enjoyed the food here. I sampled the meatballs which was delicious and homemade, the gnocchi and I had the salmon for my entree. Have to say the food is all perfectly cooked and my miso salmon with soybeans was spot on the company with sliced pickled cucumbers which was perfectly paired. I have to say the chef knows his flavors because this was absolutely delicious! I also sampled the fries with the sweet spicy sauce. I was very impressed. The Crown takes the crown. This place makes an amazing delmonico with the best garlic butter sauce I have ever tasted. The server was very nice which was rewarded with a $20 tip. The atmosphere was great. No kids in there at all. Doesn't mean they are excluded but it's more of a place to take your wife or maybe to propose to your girlfriend. Let me just preface this by saying our bartender was nothing but amazing and gave us a great experience. That unfortunately is where the good experience ends. We spent a couple hours at the bar having apps, drinks, and split a pizza. We went to wrap up for the night and left the card while we both went to the restroom after our waiter had grabbed our bill. (with our card inside the bill) I went to go pull the car around while my finance was in the restroom still and the manager caught me on the way out to hand me our pizza we left (much appreciated). This is where the great experience falls off a cliff. I pick up my fiancé who tells me that she went to the bar to sign and leave a tip only to be stopped at the front door by the general manager yelling "excuse me ma'am you need to settle your bill" only to tell him that our debit card is inside the bill and that it's already been charged. At this point, the useless hostesses are laughing in her face while everyone by the front door is staring at her. She explains that she has already paid the bill and the manager opens the book and starts walking back his previous responses. I called the restaurant to speak with the manager and as I'm trying to ask/understand what happened I'm told that "previous people have forgotten their card and they wanted to make sure that didn't happen again." That is an absolutely embarrassing response. To accuse someone of not paying their bill after you literally had their card in your hand!!! The behavior of the manager is absolutely unacceptable and the BS excuse I got as to why he carried himself that way I find even more unacceptable. This manager is clearly inexperienced, young, incompetent, and doesn't understand basic civility. I want to make it very clear that this manager ruined the entire experience and caused an absolutely unnecessary scene. It was beyond embarrassing. The Crown Tavern is located directly across from the theatre, where we had tickets to a show tonight. SO convenient on a cold winter night or when dining before the theatre, any time of the year. Our group of four was immediately greeted by friendly staff when we entered the restaurant. The place has a good energy and comfortable vibe and the staff worked to accomodate the timing of our show tonight. The menu is varied, and offers traditional fare with a flair! Our vegetarian in the group had no trouble finding something appealing and all four of us were delighted with our meal selections. The standouts were the excellent pepperoni and honey pizza and a steak au poivre which my son and I shared. The portion was generous and the quality of meat could not be faulted. The steak was cooked to perfection, and the steak could hold its own with any of the steaks I have had in the expensive, high end steak houses in Boston that charge an arm and a leg. The meat was topped with a respectable and generous au poivre sauce Biggest kudos of the night, however, go to the staff who truly went the extra mile. Our server was attentive and friendly without being overbearing. Upon my request, he promptly fetched the manager for me because the winter conditions hampered access to the restaurant and the shovelling was inadequate. My husband and I are elderly and I have had serious health issues recently and I was forced to climb over an icy snowbank to enter the building. The manager was gracious and empathetic about my concerns and agreed that access should be improved upon in future. However, can you imagine our surprise when we left the restaurant and found our car, which was parked on the street, had been shoveled out by a staff member so we could enter it with ease! We were so impressed to see that kind of care and service....one just doesnt see that any more in the service industry.
