Last time we rented in Ireland with Hertz got a tin can of a car, never again. Dooley's gave us a nearly new Ford, 4 doors with manual transmission. From noon Monday through 8am Saturday was about $260 (plus petrol, returned with full tank). We could have used credit card coverage for insurance, but the price was reasonable enough. We booked online before our trip. Irish car hire companies have been know for sleazy sales tactics but seems like they have cleaned up their act. I would rent from Dooley's again. I would award a 5th star if they did not charge for spouse as additional driver. That would differentiate them from the other Irish car hire companies, and would be good for business.

We're pretty resourceful so we don't get lost that fast i just have to remember that it's a right hand drive like Japan. Hubby was good with reorienting me LoL. Great service!

I was trying to brake down the charges that were being applied to me as the total had over €300 that was not accounted for. I was polite and professional, however this girl got irritated with me, she told me I would have to speak to head office, I asked her for the number and she hung up on me, as the phone was still connected I'm sure I herd her say the word "wanker" to her co worker as she put it down. I called back to understand why this happened but more importantly get the number I needed to follow up on my question. A male person picked up and was immediately hostile to me, i asked why I was called a wanker and he continued to shout at me down the phone, I actually asked him to calm down. I would implore someone to please listen to the recordings of these calls and help me understand why I received this type of customer service from Hertz! I am also a President Circle member, reward loyalty clearly doesn't mean a thing here. Never again.

Overall, we had a good experience renting from Avis in Dublin, although it didn't end on the best…read morenote. Picking up the car was easy, and the staff did a nice job helping us choose a vehicle large enough for three adults and all of our luggage. Since my U.S. auto insurance doesn't cover Ireland, I had already purchased insurance. Avis also offered additional coverage that eliminated any financial responsibility for damage to the vehicle. It wasn't inexpensive, but for us it was worth the peace of mind while driving on unfamiliar roads. Our Toyota Corolla had about 78,000 kilometers on it. It drove well, and despite my initial anxiety about driving on the left side of the road, I adjusted much faster than I expected. My daughter was an outstanding co-pilot, especially navigating what felt like hundreds of roundabouts between Dublin and Galway. The car itself had two maintenance issues that should have been addressed before it left the lot. The windshield wipers were badly worn, which became obvious during several rainy drives, and the brakes made a loud metal-on-metal sound every time I stopped. Neither issue prevented us from completing the trip, but both should have been caught during routine inspections. My biggest frustration came when returning the car. I knew I'd be late, so I checked the Avis app before arriving. It stated there was a 30-minute grace period, then an additional hourly charge, with a full extra day charged only after two hours. I returned the car one hour and 45 minutes late, yet the representative charged me for an entire extra day. When I pointed out the difference between the app and what I was being told, it was clear we weren't going to reach an agreement, so I paid the charge and moved on. Afterward, I completed the customer survey, shared my concerns about both the vehicle maintenance and the late-return charge, and asked to be contacted. I never heard back. As an Avis President's Club member, I expected better follow-up. I'd rent from Avis again because the pickup process and the vehicle itself met our needs, but I hope they pay closer attention to vehicle maintenance and provide more consistent communication regarding late-return policies.

Beware!! Avoid Enterprise car rental at Dublin airport if you can. I've had really good experiences…read morewith Enterprise in the US, but this agency doesn't play by the same rulebook. Their cars are rented out in a dimly lit parking structure, but when you return the car, it's in an open air car park. When we returned the car, the person checking us in did a very cursory look at the car, but then honed in on small 'nick' in the tire (tyre over there), as if he knew what he was looking for. I inspected the car before leaving the airport parking structure, but without getting down to the ground with a flashlight, there's no way I would have seen it. I'm positive that we didn't cause this tire damage since we were on smooth paved roads the entire time of our 4 day rental. I didn't have a choice but to sign off on the forms at the time because we needed to get to our flight. This is a scam! Subsequent web searching (on Yelp and on Trip Advisor) brought up similar issues reported by other renters, specifically with the Enterprise Dublin airport agency. If you must rent from this company, then it behooves you to take pictures of absolutely everything and make sure Enterprise accepts these picture before you drive away. Yes, a lot of extra work, especially when you want to get on with your travel, but could save you $ later. Have a look closer the the Yelp reviews which detail similar issues. This one on Trip Advisor was about windshield damage, but there are many others related to other issues people have had. https://www.tripadvisor.ie/ShowUserReviews-g186605-d27492114-r959953813-Car_Rental_Dublin_Airport-Dublin_County_Dublin.html
