TLDR: Lockout Service for a simple doorknob lock costs $200. They won't tell you over the phone until they get to your house. Called these folks, as I had locked myself out of my room and my landlady was out of town. When I asked about pricing they dodged the question and said that a guy will end up calling me. Got the call 10 minutes later and I tried to explain that it was just a simple doorknob lock and wanted to get a quote. He said he had to inspect it. Ended up giving him the address to the house. He walked in and looked at the door and within a second just stated $200. Took only less than 5 minutes for him to open it with simple tools you can get on Amazon. 1 star for the shady quote practice. Do yourselves a favor and find a locksmith whos transparent about their prices. read more

I'll give them 4 stars for existing, because it turns out, it is very hard to find a locksmith with a brick-and-mortar store where you can take a modern (switchblade) car key to be duplicated. They did this, but it was not without a little weirdness. When I walked in I said I brought my own key blank to make the copy. They rustled around and said they may not have the update for 2024 yet, and I assumed that meant software. Couple people later, and a trip out to the truck to check on it, and they said they found the right blank - which looked significantly different from my key. So they cut a key with it; it didn't fit into my ignition; and at that point they were like, sorry, we don't have that blank. OK... I said can you try making one with my blank (from ebay). The guy responded with something about not wanting to ruin it (?). I said, go ahead. So they made one with my blank and it worked fine and they charged me the full price. But it was weird how they completely ignored me when I said I brought my own blank, and it turned out to be the only thing that worked. read more

I was honestly shocked at the professionalism - the great job that Ben did replacing locks for me on such short notice. You get used to never being able to get ahold of anyone, and poor service. He answered right away, listened, gave thorough responses and educations. Came out right away, replaced the locks, extra keys. 2020 has been insane for sure. We lost the keys to my husband's car right before we had our first baby haha so needless to say getting a replacement was a priority. We ordered the electronic fob online and then contacted David. He came out during a deluge and was able to get the new fob connected to the car. They were reasonably priced, came out quickly, and easy to communicate with. We had let the car sit for a month before calling so David had a tough time getting the battery to work so he could test the key. After about an hour he said that everything on his end showed that the key and car were paired but he couldn't be sure as the battery was dead. We tried to jump it to no avail. The most impressive thing about David was that he left once the car read that the key was synced but came back to try something different with the battery and test the key. Guy was nice enough and quick but the cost was outrageous, 350$. I just looked at a receipt from when I got 2 spare sets made and a fob about a month ago and it was 160$. Of course I'm out of town and lost my set so this was a last resort. I'd understand an extra cost for being an emergency situation but 200$.... Definitely regret not calling around more. This is the second time we have had Murray Ave. locksmith out. The first time was an emergency situation when we took our big dog out for a nighttime walk without keys, there was a power failure and we were unable to get back in through the garage door code. This time it was to work on a couple of projects, replacing a doorknob that was old and very outdated, which my handyman threw in the towel on a day earlier. I reached out through Yelp, they responded and scheduled quickly, and Erik came out and really knew his stuff, widening the doorknob hole, installing the new knob and leaving it with a professional appearance. He then dealt with a loose doorknob/lock in my basement as well as replacing the corresponding deadbolt lock. He is highly skilled and I appreciated that he approached each job from a perspective of quality, safety but also value, never wanting to upsell the most expensive route if not needed. For security purposes the entry door to our retail business is kept locked. When customers wish to enter, they ring the doorbell and we buzz them in. Recently the mechanics of the entry door system stopped working. We first called the out of state manufacturer of the the storefront; who disconnected our phone call while trying to connect us with the closest rep in Ohio. Our second call was to our security company who recommended a locksmith, who told us they were unable to assist. We then called another locksmith who was also unable to help. We were getting desperate when late yesterday afternoon we called Murray Avenue Locksmith. We were told to expect a call back from Eric their master locksmith. Eric texted us promptly early this morning and we texted him the specific details regarding the locking system. Eric stopped by the store this AM and within a few minutes was able to both diagnose and adjust the door so that it operated properly. I paid $150 to have a door re-keyed. Immediately after it was re-keyed it no longer latched properly. They returned and said they would charge me $500 to repair the latch that worked perfectly before it was re-keyed. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the door, nor with the hinges, it worked perfectly before they arrived, and stopped latching immediately after they left. read more

If I could give multiple ratings for various aspects of my experience, I would. I used them for an emergency service to gain access to my home. I called around 5 so it wasn't a super late service call. For availability and promptness, they would get 5 stars. Our service tech was great, friendly and informative. Customer service would also get 5 stars. However, I would give negative stars for price transparency and price structure. Their website lists none under the emergency services, and the price is based on a per-lock basis and not time spent doing the work. The service fee was only $20-25, however, they charged around $175 per lock, and of course the door they had to open had two locks. For about 30 minutes of work, I had a $400 bill. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for the positive experiences I mentioned above, and the quickness with which they were able to come, however, I think the pricing is structured to take advantage of people in tight places and could be adjusted to avoid sticker shock in an already stressful situation. read more

There was a customer being served when I walked in. She had a very large key making order and graciously allowed me to go ahead of her. I still had to wait a while though as the person working took what seemed to be a personal phone call in the middle of it. She was otherwise friendly enough and advised me the key tags I had were $10 and suggested more affordable options. The keys themselves stick a bit in the lock but work with some effort. Got three keys duplicated. Two didn't work at all, one half worked. The first was a standard house key - 5 cut Schlage. Copy did not work at all. I said that copies of that particular key tend to not work, and asked that they read the bitting (the cut depths) and cut a new key to that bitting. Key cuts are ideally at certain depths (ex: 1mm, 2.5mm, etc) so reading the bitting and cutting it based on that results in a better key than copying the edge mechanically. The employee said that they could read it but it "probably wouldn't be right" and said they would check it with calipers after duplication. The copy did not work at all. The second was for a 2000 Toyota. I didn't have that car with me when I got it cut so I couldn't test it. Not 100% sure that was made from the original key because the car was second hand, but the key that was duplicated worked just fine. The copy did not work at all. The third was for a 2009 Honda. This was a $40 fancy "laser" duplication from the original key. I brought a blank purchased from a Honda dealership. The copy didn't work in the door, but did in the ignition. They tried going over the cut again and spraying oil in the key hole but it didn't help. They said it was probably the blank I brought. The one from Honda. read more

This week has been a week from hell..who would have thought that on the anniversary of my Dads death, I would walk outside and lock myself out. Walking to the front and back of the house, having no idea how I was going to get in, I thankfully had my phone in my pocket. I googled locksmiths and this came up. Initially, I had a rough experience. We were given an estimate over the phone for a simple lockout with an increase in price depending on difficulty. We made an appointment for 4-4:30, however, they did not arrive until around a quarter to 6. Our door ended up needing a simple lockout, but the price we were charged was $150 over the given estimate. Based on this experience, I wouldn't have recommended them. However, on the following business day (which ended up being Labor Day because I had forgotten), I called to get clarity on the cost. Being Labor Day, the owner was at home. I fully expected a call back later in the week, which was fine, but was surprised to have him call me right back on his day off. He went above and beyond to make that adjustment for me. Extremely unprofessional and unresponsive business, to the point I'm going elsewhere. Over the course of 3 weeks, I visited the shop twice (one time it was randomly closed on a Friday) and called them 4 other times, all trying to have them order a car key fob and then do the programming and cut. When I initially stopped in to ask of they could do it, they confirmed they could, and would order the fob and call me when it was in to come by for the programming. I continuously followed up, and each time had to re-explain my request, and was told they would look at their records, and get back to me within the hour with a status. The one time they actually called back, the man apologized for forgetting about it, and said he would order it immediately, and it should be in within 2-3 days. That came and went, and follow up calls were met with the same "we'll check on it, and call you back within the hour". I tried to give these guys my business so many times, and I'm over it now. This seems like it'd be easy money for them - order a fob and program it with a machine they must already own, but it's been impossible to get them to follow up on any of their assurances. read more

This is a small local locksmith shop. It is pretty barren when you go inside, but it's not like they need much as locksmiths. I came in because I needed to make a copy of my key for me and my roommate. They seemed to be in the business of doing things quickly, as soon as I handed them my key they were all ready and grabbed 2 keys which is great because I am sure that people don't want to spend much time on this service, but I was looking for a more cute key for myself so I stopped them - they don't have much of a design selection but I got a really cute cat key. It was super quick and cheap and they were really nice. I would recommend going here if you need copies of your keys made, they are very quick and don't ask questions! read more

Very disappointed with locksmith , they said it costs 90+20$ and they charged us 147+29$. I asked why, he said different price for different cars!! We left the key in trunk, it took 38 seconds to open the door and he said you should try to open the trunk and the left ya. We said the key is in trunk but after one minute he got his 176$ and left us. They literally robbed our packet and left. Thanks to locksmith to be that awesome !!! read more

Excellent service! I scheduled an appointment to have locks changed on a new house. The technician arrived on time and was well prepared. He assessed the doors and very professionally and thoroughly described my needs and the cost. I also appreciated that he highlighted positive aspects of the doors/locks, and also warned me about the ease of being locked out with the design of the locks. The technician completed the work within about 15 minutes and had me test the keys/locks before charging me. Though I do not have a point of comparison, the price seemed fair. Very unprofessional. Do not use unless you have time and patience. I called on a Saturday to set up an appointment to get a car key made for an old junk car I was planning on getting rid of later in the week. Set up an appointment for Tuesday between 10 - 12. Tuesday comes and the time passes. I called around 2 and when the tech called me back he said "I guess we forgot to call you". We set up for the next day for 8 - 10. I call at 9 and he then tells me he will be here between 11 and 12. He finally shows up at 12, takes the lock cylinder out of the trunk and says he will be back with a key in 2-3 hours. 2-3 hours later he calls and says they need more time, can they bring the key tomorrow? I already have the car scheduled to leave then so I tell him as long as its first thing in the morning. I call at 930... "ill be there between 11 and 12 with key". Once he gets here and surprisingly has a working key he goes to put the cylinder back in the trunk and he had lost the clip that holds in in place. So unless you have 3 days and a lot of patience I would highly recommend finding someone else. I would have only given 1 star but they did produce a key that worked. read more

David came and did all the locks in our new house. He gave an estimate which I thought was reasonable. I bought some of the locks and he had some extra in the truck in case I didn't have the right one. When one of the locks failed he came back and fixed it . Very pleased with his work and good communication. He is polite and patient. He forgot to come once but he made up for it and came on time the next. He even called in advance to assure me that he was coming. He even works on weekends and can work around your schedule ! I highly recommend this business. read more
