I have to say that this place was truly awesome. I work in the service department for a Ford dealership and I needed to get my new rims and tires mount and balance, since our tire machine was not working. They took my in and I had a blast talking with the owner and the technicians. The tire technician was really caring, made me wish I had more technicians like him in my dealership. I threw them a curveball at the end and asked if they can do an alignment, this was right after closing. The owner and alignment technician was more then happy to accommodate me. They even gave me a free t-shirt. Now I feel that I am apart of the team. I will be visiting them anytime I am up that way , for work or just to say hi. read more

But after three recent visits, for new tires and TPMS sensor, Murrays seems to be transparent and honest. Their pricing is fair as well. Murray's is THE place to go in Raleigh for tires and car maintenance. I recommend them to my friends and co-workers all the time. The staff is incredibly personable and friendly. It is an old family-owned establishment and I see the same faces every time I go, so it maintains some of that small-town folksy feel. They do fast, accurate work and they stand by it. Can't beat a set of used tires (matching) for $140. There is often a wait at Murray's so you can't come expecting to be in and out, and if you go on a Saturday, you better bring a book ... but nothing says "This is the place!" like four people waiting outside for it to open at 7:45AM on a Tuesday morning. These guys were so helpful and informative. I've been to many tire places as I have low profile tires and drive in downtown raleigh a lot and there are so many potholes it's hard to avoid them. We had awesome experience today at Murray's. We blew a tire on our RV and quickly found Murray's by googling. We pulled in and they told us they didn't have the tire on-site but could get it in the morning. Then they decided they could go and get it this afternoon and do the replacement today as well. They talked us out of spending too much on something we didn't really need, were really efficient and really nice too. Even their other customers were nice! And the price was so reasonable. I blew a flat and came here for a replacement based on all the great Yelp reviews. I saw this as a chance for me to have all my tires inspected, as it had been a few years. They recommended 3 new tires based on the lack of tread on mine.. ok, probably true. They told me the tires would be good to go for at least a year. Not even a month later, my tire pressure light came on, so I went to a Firestone to have them checked out. Turns out all the tires were cracked and had low tread. The man who inspected them even showed them to me in comparison to what a new tire should look like. His next words were "sorry, they ripped you off." Clearly they took advantage of me because I'm a woman.. something I was always warned about when it comes to car maintenance. I would give one more star for the kind lady at the desk, but I can't warrant that based on my overall experience. read more

What A LIfe Saver! My wife and two coworkers were on their way from Morehead City to Asheville for a work conference, when her A/C stopped working near Garner. She called me, and I directed her to an automotive parts store that had the A/C blower motor resistor for her car. She purchased it, but they couldn't help her install it. She went across the street to another place and they wanted over $100 to pull the old one out and put the new one in (a simple 5-minute job, resistor is easy to access in her vehicle, under the dash on passenger side by the firewall). I tried to talk her through it, but she didn't have the tools. So I looked on Yelp and found Murray's just a bit down the road. I called and explained to Johnny what the situation was. He said they didn't usually do work like that, where someone has the part and just needs it installed, but when he found out the details and that she was passing through on the way to a conference, he told me to have her bring it in. She did, Johnny took it and in 20 minutes had it done. He told them to enjoy their AC and their conference, no charge, pay it forward! And they had already treated my wife and her two coworkers to complimentary bottles of water on this sweltering day! Needless to say, we are very grateful! My son attends NC State, and you can be sure that if he needs any automotive work done while he is up at school he will be going to Murray's! I took my car in for a howling noise coming from the wheels. I had the problem checked out at two other places and received two different opinions. I took it in to Murray's and they quickly determined that the problem was uneven wear on my tires. They recommended replacing my tires instead of the much more expensive repair job that had previously been recommended. The tires resolved my problem. Great friendly staff, quality work, and they know they're stuff. This is a place where you can truly have a relationship with the mechanics. One time, I had to buy my own parts and Donnell did everything he could to make sure my parts were correct. Even when the guy at the parts place gave me the wrong parts, he STILL was able to fix my car. Another time, I needed my car, and it was already 5:30 and the place was about to close, but the staff agreed to stay about 30 mins late to fix it so I could have transportation for work the next day. The price is nice. The only drawback is that you can't make appointments and the place can get very busy. But, I think that's just a testament to how good the service is. read more

If there's one thing that I hate to spend money on, it's tires. They aren't pretty, they give you no pleasure and they're definitely expensive! Ugh, I hate to buy tires! So here's the story. I notice that I have a massive bolt stuck in my right front tire. Damnit... I proceed to the nearest service station that actually has service, and am told there's no patching it. My luck, it's deep into the side and a patch won't hold. Of course, you can't buy just one, because the tire gods say they won't wear properly. So, with many miles left on both of the front tires, I start to shop for the best price. Well, you know the story...Approximately $100 per. So I'm thinking, there's construction everywhere, it's a matter of time before the next bolt... woe is me! Then it happened. A friend turned me onto one of the coolest things. Murray's New and Used Tires! I couldn't believe my friend put used tires on her vehicles. Given her economic good fortune, I was shocked. So off I went to South Saunders Street, met Gary Murray the owner, and one hour later, I was on the road with my two "new" used tires and was thrilled! Both tires with more miles left, than the previous ones. Total bill, $69! Guess what, the place was hopping. Jam packed with business. There was a sign on the wall that stated, "if you like our service, tell a friend. If you don't like our service, tell us." Now that's my kind of business! read more

I use to come here to get tires but not anymore. I called to make sure they had my tire and was told they did. I drove down and waited an hour an a half to be told they did not have my tires. They didn't really seem to give a crap that I wasted my time. The time before last I got tires and 3 days later a valve started leaking on one of the replaced tires. They charged me to replace it and the mechanic tried to get cash tip out of me as well. Never again. read more

I recently went to murrays to get a patch in my tire. It had a slow leak. Honestly, everybody that worked there that I interacted with was super nice. The only down side was that it took them over an hour to do it. And they looked at my truck almost immediately when I got there. So I assumed it would be a quick job. They finally got the patch done and guaranteed it for life. They charged me 18 bucks, which was a drag because the shop at my old city would do patches for free and twice as fast. I've gone here multiple times and always send newly moved Raleigh transplants to Murray's when they are in need of tires. My most recent trip I rolled in on a Monday just before lunch and as usual was approached by an employee immediately, told him I wanted some used tires and they put me into a bay right on the spot. I'm going to add to Murray's rave reviews. On the way to Raleigh from Asheville to move our oldest into his freshman dorm at NC State University we hit a metal plate on I-40. It was scary but everything appeared to be ok. The next morning, during the big move, I noticed that one of our tires was almost completely flat. I Yelped tire repair shops and Murray's was at the top of the list. I called and spoke to a super nice woman at Murray's and then limped the car to the shop, which was 2 miles from the dorm. I assumed that I'd leave it and pick it up the next day. Instead, they saw me immediately, fixed the tire in 15 minutes, charged me next to nothing, gave me a free water (it was a HOT day), and sent me off with a smile. This could have been a very stressful situation in the midst of an emotional and logistically challenging move; however, Murray's pulled through and made it easy. I highly recommend them. read more
