This is one of my all time favorite places to eat in the world. I remember when Bill and Gary took it over many years ago and I ate there quite often. I've had a lot of great meals there with some really good friends over the years. This place has many of my favorite dishes such as such as wings, Greek salad, steaks, and sandwiches all prepared to perfection. A great selection of wines and beers all served up in a warm and friendly jazz filled atmosphere. I think the atmosphere is fine, but there's really not much special about eating here; the unique food options are unique but really just ok to eat and not something you would go out of your way for. I have been going to Murry's 3-4 times a month since Bill & Gary bought it 30 years ago! The menu is varied enough that I am able to order to match my mood. Not so hungry? Any one of the appetizers fits the bill (try the green pepper rings, chicken livers or fried eggplant). Just a sandwich? There is a wide array (my favorites: the steak or grilled tuna); all are perfectly prepared! Starving? The entrees, again, are varied enough to match my mood (love the chicken & the fettuccine)! I always add a dinner salad and, to satisfy my sweet tooth, I often succumb to one of Deb's delicious desserts! The service? Excellent, friendly & efficient! Yes, I've had to wait for my food once in awhile; however, with "planful" ordering & enjoyable companions, the wait is a part of the enjoyment! I frequently order food to take home if I want to avoid the wait! It speaks highly of the owners that most of the servers are long-time employees...they know the restaurant & they know me! Francie, a bar keeper, is a prime example...she calls many of her customers by name & remembers their "usual". A bonus to the food & service: Jazz! Great great great food. Here are their best things: french fries, calamari, cheese burger, fillet and any dessert with the flour-less chocolate torte. The atmosphere is really great too. There is often a jazz group or a pianist playing on Saturdays. A little secret: the steak sandwich is actually a nice steak with a piece of bread on the side for $7ish. Everything is a la carte, but it is still reasonably priced: you could get a burger, fries, drink, appetizer and dessert for about $12-15 per person or a steak (with all the other stuff) for about $30 per person. First time visit and it was worth the wait! Visiting my son at Mizzou and heard about Murrys. Went on a Saturday night and had 40 minute wait - usually never wait but it was worth it. Love the restaurant! The service is warm and friendly. The food variety is great for a person like me whose husband is on strict gluten free diet and has only limited choices of restaurant to go. We are there at lease once a week and I can get different dishes I love every time. Besides, they take good care of my paranoid husband's need for gluten free very well. My wife and I arrived at about 330 for a late lunch and were one of only 3 or 4 tables. We sat ourselves per the sign and I guess they didn't notice us because we waited about 5 minutes before our waitress came by. I had gotten up and got the menus myself while we waited for her, so she asked if we were ready to order. I told her we needed just a couple more minutes. After 10 minutes I was discouraged, at 15 minutes we decided to make our way to Addison's. I wish I could be reviewing the food but that's not the case. Just the dismal customer service. Kitchen staff hanging out in the front of the building smoking, no hostess, no waitress. Just head on down to Addison's and save yourself the headache. read more

I think out of all the restaurants in Columbia, this has to be my absolute favorite! I've been multiple times. I usually get the fettuccine alfredo, which is absolutely delicious! I am VERY surprised to read the negative reviews of Murry's. I've always considered Murry's one of the best restaruants in the area. The food is always fresh and delicious while the price is very reasonable. I've always had top-notch service here as well. I love their dinner salad with it's delightful cheese and the pepperonchini garnish. Love the Peppercream dressing too. I like to get the fried green pepper rings as an appetizer as they are uniquely deliscious. The ONLY problem I have with Murry's is that it is very busy and takes a long time to get a table. Murrys used to be reliable for a decent meal. However, our last two visits, during the past 6 weeks, it fell far below par. The pork tenderloin and chicken philly were tasteless. The soup was served tepid. And the appetizer and meals were brought to the table at the same time. We immediately pointed this out to the waitress and had to ask for a to-go box. Also no silverware was brought to the table with the meal. We had to flag down the waitress to get silverware. Three strikes and they are out in our book. read more

I ate the chicken philly and my wife had the chicken salad. Neither comes with sides so we split an order of fries. The order of fries was huge for only $2 and the fries were great.
