I recently brought my car to Murta Motorsports in Tempe because the convertible top was stuck and not functioning properly. Unfortunately, my experience with customer service was disappointing. When I arrived, the owner appeared to be in a very bad mood. He came out, took my keys, briefly acknowledged the issue with the cabriolet top, and immediately started walking away. I tried to explain that there were a few additional issues I wanted addressed, but he interrupted and said something along the lines of, "As you can see, I have more cars I can work on. I can work on the cab top," and then walked away. I understand that any busy shop can have stressful days, but there is no excuse for being dismissive or rude to a customer. My wife was with me and was equally surprised by the interaction. Customer service and communication matter, especially when you're trusting someone with a valuable vehicle. I ultimately chose not to leave my car there and instead went to Stuttgart Southwest, where the experience was completely different. They took the time to listen, discuss the concerns, and made me feel comfortable leaving my vehicle in their care. To be fair, I cannot comment on the quality of Murta Motorsports' workmanship because I never had any work performed there. However, based on my experience with the owner, I was not comfortable doing business with them. I have been taking my 1997 Boxster to Murtha Motorsports since I moved to Gilbert about 3 years ago. They are by far the best team I have had servicing the car in the 29 years I have owned it. Consistently they provide great communication and service. Their pricing is very fair, and most importantly they stand behind the work they do. 1) lost/misplaced/took the original part that came off my car. 2) damaged my car. Allowed it to roll back into another car. The repair work was not done well. Bumper guard was left loose. 3) after repairing my door latch the lock key would not work. After not getting my calls returned I stopped at the shop. "Too busy to talk to me." Was seeking qualified and expert repair for my recently incorrectly repaired Porsche 996 Turbo. Being on my 7th 911 and my owenership of 911's spanning nearly five decades, and knowing my way around the car - it was imperative to me that the shop and owner not act like the "Wizard of Oz" aka "the man behind the curtain" - as *most* shops hide behind their service advisors and intentionally separate the customers from the actual mechanic while they separate the customer from their actual cash. From the very first phone conversation with Sean Murtha, it was immediately apparent to me that not only was he expertly knowledgeable, but was fair in both the assessment of needed parts and repairs, and he also readily acknowledged I was an "informed" customer having owed two of this particular 911 Turbo iteration over the last 14 years. He and his shop installed a racing clutch to replace the OEM clutch on my hi miles, and moderately modified 600hp 996 Turbo. Which once again performs flawlessly.
