They required a guarantor which I had but denied that guarantor even though income was well above requirement. Then pushed really hard to have a company be the guarantor which equaled a full months rent. Upon deciding to go elsewhere they took over a month to refund the $250 deposit and kept stalling. Very poor service and seemed shady to push for the 3rd party guarantor so hard. Hmmm makes you wonder if it really is an independent 3rd party. read more

Do not live here if you like to receive packages, have friends over, or not have your stuff stolen. 1 of every 3 packages you order will be stolen. They have cameras in the mail room but they REFUSE to do anything about it. Instead of getting lockers, they hung up pieces of paper on the doors that delivery drivers have scribbled on pleading with them to get lockers. Delivery drivers NEVER bring packages to your door, they are always stolen. It has cost me hundreds of dollars to replace packages because they say they are delivered. Theft is so common here even outside of packages, shit is always getting stolen. My roommate had his bike and skateboard stolen and since the gate to the parking garage is ALWAYS broken, someone broke into his car and stole his backpack and laptop. The "music studio" is not remotely soundproof. You can hear EVERYTHING going on at the gym. Don't get me started on how much the gym equipment sucks. I've had to put multiple work orders in just to get them to replace pieces of gym equipment .. like the ONE bench in there was missing it's entire back piece and they didn't fix it until I told them to. I had to buy my own attachments just to use their equipment because they never replace or enhance anything. They just repainted it so it looks better than it is, but don't be fooled. It's pretty trashy. Also during the pandemic they didn't allow us to use any amenities and refused to compensate our rent for it. That was BS. + they will continuously do construction and even though you PAY for your parking spot they will force you to move your vehicles for multiple days, no accommodation, no reimbursement, no help at all when there is ZERO parking around. I messaged them explaining I couldn't find parking and had to use my spot and they called me and told me they were going to tow my vehicles. There's not even guest parking. This apartment is a fucking mess, management absolutely sucks. The staff does their best but whoever is actually in charge of this place sucks. Worst apartment experience of my life. The leasing guy called me and told me if I don't move the cars they're going to tow me and said "it's in your lease agreement we can tow you at any time" well it's also in the lease agreement that they provide safe, gated, security monitored parking. And yet my roommates car has been broken into, as aforementioned. Also we are paying 2600 for a 2bed 2 bath and they're now trying to charge people 3000+ so don't let them trick you into that either. Edit as of 2/25: they just sent this passive aggressive email where they're now making us move our cars for a THIRD TIME. Because they failed to complete the job over the course of 2 days. So now with less than 7 days notice, we are expected to move again out of the spots we pay for. Parking on the street is $20 a day. So my household is now out $120 because this complex can't get their shit together. read more

I really like this complex. It's clean, they always keep it tidy. There's a high speed of response to maintenance requests. There's an amazing rooftop relaxation area that's always well-maintained. The BBQ pits, pool, jacuzzi, and tables are always clean. It's always pleasant to be in this space. The only downside is the proximity to the homeless. They yell at night, making it hard to sleep. I don't know how much of a complex issue this is, or how they can address it. But overall, the living experience here is very good. The apartments have high ceilings. The washer and dryer on the balcony is a perfectly thought-out solution. You can do laundry anytime without bothering anyone with dryer noises. Good sound insulation. Neighbors are hardly heard. Just moved in and so far, I really am pleased with my choice! Aaron and Sydney were very helpful to support with the tour and move in process. Aaron answered all my obnoxious questions with a breeze. My husband and I lived here for a little over 2 years, from 2018 to July 2020. Here's my review: Pros: - Convenient location, close to the 134, 170 and 101, lots of places to walk to -- restaurants, grocery store, a movie theater nearby (which we used to be able to go to... *sniff*) - Lots of cool residents, many young artists, and generally friendly people - Good amenities: gym, rooftop pool which they upgraded with new furniture and a really lovely mural, and... (cue the singing angels), PARKING!! - Chandler bike path super close - Apartments are nice - felt clean and new - I felt safe to walk around by myself at night (but not on the Weddington side of the building) - Helpful leasing office staff - Amaazing maintenance team who are quick to respond and so friendly Cons: - Weddington side of the building was generally kinda sketchy - Some immature residents who didn't respect the property, a couple of whom lived across the hall and consistently left trash and other flotsam outside their door - Not super quiet -- Vineland is a busy street that generates traffic noise, and planes pass by regularly from Burbank airport (probably a disaster if you're a film student trying to record sound but for me it wasn't a big deal) I realize that, to a large degree, the "cons" are out of Muse's control and I also realize that it's not PeRfeCt but I still think the pros way outweigh the bad. Few things that really bother about living at the Muse. 1. Muse no longer takes in packages for their residents. This means that your 2800+ dollar a month apartment does not have basic package concierge services like other buildings in the area. 2. My rent randomly went up mid-way through my current contract without notice, not great, and probably not worth fighting with them over. The amount is small, but irritating as they should have predicted this earlier and baked it into their rent cost. 3. They recently dug up the entire courtyard area in front of my apartment, a lot of noise and mess that just came out of no where. No early warning, nothing. read more

This review is a long time coming. A few months ago I arrived home after 10-11PM only to not be able to get into my unit. I called the after hours service and was told someone would call me back. A half hour went by and we called again. An on call employee by the name of Reggie ended up showing up. He tested the door and found after over an hour or so that the problem was the lock itself. At this point it was close to midnight and I had to work in the morning. I asked Reggie for a ride to a nearby hotel. He was more than willing to help. He drove me to the hotel down the street and even paid for my stay in a room. Reggie is an amazing employee who deserves a raise! He was friendly and went above and beyond to help me. I would have been a very unhappy camper if it weren't for his amazing service. 6 stars for Reggie!! read more

I was a resident at Muse last year and as a young professional I don't recommend living here. I came from Avant which is another Essex property downtown; I moved to be closer to work. I always found the Noho Arts District to be charming and loved my experience living at Avant so the move felt like a no brainer. It wasn't that simple though, I quickly realized that the building had mostly younger residents. That's fine but the noise from party people became expected just about every Friday and Saturday night. I lived in a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment on the top floor facing Vineland which had a lovely view but the noise from the street was almost as loud as my neighbors. Moving on to some positive things though like the gym is spacious and even has a ballet bar in it which I rarely find in residential gyms. Everything is key fob access including the building doors, elevators and front door which is super important to me. Overall I think the price for a 2 bedroom was very reasonable, and that's why I'm giving this a 4 star rating. That and because it's an Essex property :) If I learned anything from living there, you get what you pay for! A few more highlights to note just in case any prospective residents are reading this. Calling ubers is a pain because they always want to pick you up on Vineland and you never know if they're going to pull up closer to McCormick or Weddington which is where the doors are to get in and out of the building. Weddington was a particularly shady street mostly due to all the construction so if that has improved at all since last summer I don't know but I didn't personally feel safe on that street at night. Last but not least there was a larger man in the leasing office that always had a bad attitude, it was very unpleasant going to him with any questions or concerns as a resident. I do want to give a shout out to Essex though, they are a fabulous property management company and I would happily move back to Avant any day. read more

TL;DR: Do not live in #422. If you need sleep, this apartment is not for you. This is a review for the building and #422 from Aug 2017-February 2018. Upon moving in, we specifically asked about the noise with the pool/jacuzzi being directly above the unit. We were assured there would be no issues. Day 2, we heard this really loud rumbling above the ceiling in our living room that vibrated the ceiling and the walls. We figured it out that it was the jacuzzi. It sounds like an airplane landing on the ceiling. The pool area is supposed to close at 10pm; however, a resident would go up at 9:55pm and turn it on until 11pm and sometimes later. Above the ceiling in the smaller bedroom, was the pool equipment room. That included the extra added bonus of rumbling that vibrated the ceiling and walls that turned on every morning at 7am. While we are uncertain of the cause; most likely from the pool equipment above, our unit was really humid. You could feel the humidity upon entering it was so heavy. Our apartment faced the construction on Weddington. The dust/silt from the site would blow in the wind onto our patio. You could not sit outside without being coated nor could you breathe. You also have the extra added bonus of the construction noise that starts at 6:30am Monday thru Saturday. We received a notice in October of high crime alerts in the area. At that time, the secured locking doors on the Weddington entrance would not shut and lock. We alerted management several times and were told nothing was wrong with the doors. After we complained regarding the door; for whatever reason, our packages were no longer being accepted at the office. They would reject delivery and we had to re-order items or pick up from the post office. In December, we started smelling cigarette smoke in the smaller bedroom. Muse is a smoking allowed building. Even though we knew this in the lease, were shocked that people would actually smoke in their units. The smoke was so strong, my bath towels and clothes smelled. I believe it was either someone next door or below the unit. I couldn't sleep due to the smell. The staff said there was nothing they could do. In January, the pool equipment room had maintenance done. The equipment started turning on every evening at 11pm and would not turn off. I complained everyday for 2 weeks about the rumbling of the ceiling and walls. I was not getting any sleep. It was at that point, we had to pay for early termination and move due to the staff not resolving the problem. Other notes; the sidewalks and entrances around the building smell really bad. Pets urinate and defecate on the sidewalks. My partner and I literally had to hold our breath upon entering and leaving the Weddington entrance due to the smell. We paid $2500 early termination and received $1400 out of our $1800 security deposit. They charged $400 for cleaning and partial paint. We received a detailed list of the charges within our statement. We did not clean upon vacate. The water bill is shared amongst the residents. For 2 people, we paid an average of $80 a month. This includes the sprinklers watering the plants outside for hours at a time and the hose cleaning of the building. And the dumpster area near the garage entrance on Weddington, was always flooded with water. We did not have a good experience with the staff. Our complaints were ignored and they stopped accepting/holding our packages at the office. I would not recommend living at Muse unless you are OK with construction, dust, lack of sleep, animal urine/defecation and upon submitting unresolved complaints, no longer receiving packages. read more

Management apologized and pretty much said "oh well" *People get in without a fob/passcode *They didn't tell us Direct TV is the only provider available in the building. We asked too because we had Dish prior to moving and planned on transferring service. Biggest issue: When we first visited, we were shown a unit on the 6th floor and were told the actual unit we'd move into would be on the 3rd floor. We didn't think much if it until we moved in a couple weeks later and discovered we had NO cell signal or half a bar smh. Mind you we have Verizon. Of course management apologized and pretty much said "oh well". The Direct TV installer mentioned a lot of people have the same complaint here but he did recommend a signal booster. That's the only thing that saved us. I like the building but definitely do your research. There are a lot of young tenants as well. read more

Every encounter I've had with any staff member was always positive and delightful. The apartment is beautiful--the neighborhood is in a central location and event filled. It is within walking distance from the North Hollywood Red Line station and right in the middle of the Arts District. There is also a sense of cohesiveness with all the events thrown by the complex. Moved in last summer from across the country and Sam from the Muse team helped me expedite the process so I didn't have to stay in a hotel. Super awesome team of people to communicate the application and move-in process (thanks again Sam)! Apartment is very modern for the price range with great appliances and smartphone connectivity (thermostat, doorbell, etc), and the central AC is solid. The cleaning crew did a great job making the apartment feel brand new upon move in, and the location in NoHo is prime! Packages have not been a problem for me specifically, and it is great that Amazon delivers directly to your door. If you sign up for delivery notifications through all of the major shipping services like I have, you will know if packages are delivered no matter where they're coming from which mitigates worries surrounding them being stolen. The only negative experiences I have had here are slightly noisy neighbors, one obnoxiously loud homeless person down the street that temporarily restricted my nightly window-opening habits, and lastly the general speed in which general building maintenance is handled. One of the elevators has been broken for much longer than excusable, and the pool is constantly getting shut down (granted, this is as much due to unruly tenants with glass as it is to slow maintenance). In general I have had an excellent experience the past year and looking to resign under the condition that rent is not inflated unreasonably upon my next lease! read more

First of all, I don't understand these negative reviews that give the building a low rating because the "neighborhood is sketchy"; this IS North Hollywood, not Beverly Hills. Do your research! The building is actually quite nice considering the area, so I would consider that a plus. The staff here are great (particularly the maintenance staff, who work their asses off cleaning up after the pigs who leave dog crap and cheese doodles on the floor) and respond very quickly to maintenance requests. The office staff are also very nice and will take care of issues as soon as you report them. Stacey (the manager) is doing an outstanding job, considering what she has to deal with. The only thing I wish was different is the fact that there are a lot of young people in the building who seem to have little experience living in a building with other people that's NOT a dorm, because there are definite noise and trash issues that may be too much for the management to deal with. I do like that it's walking distance to almost everything, but it is true that there are sometimes creepy people who find their way into the building lobby and seem to loiter there. Other than that, the building has some cool amenities, and seems nicer than some of the other pseudo-"luxury" apartments in the area. ***UPDATE: SInce I originally wrote this review, they have contracted a new security patrol company and offered me a new lease with a (surprisingly) very small increase in rent. Been here for about 4 years now. Management-4/5 has been pretty solid, whenever i have packages delivered they email/call me, I have even been treated to lunch by some of the staff and vice versa. My main issue that I just cant let go is from when i moved in. They got my move in dates wrong and thought I was moving in a month later, I was then moved into another apartment, with a different floorplan from what I was shown and given carpet when I specifically asked from hardwood floors from the beginning. I complained and tried to get the carpets switched out multiple times but they said I would have to pay $700 to do so, being that I literally had no other options I had to just deal with it, even after being a resident for multiple years they still wont replace it without me paying for it. If I had not of lived here for so long and established relationships with the maangement this score would most definitely be a lot lower because of the move in snafu. Maintenence- 5/5, Issues are almost always resolved the day of or the next day at the latest. Amenities-3.5/5, there are some good amenities but there have been issues with availability in my stay, (pool/jacuzzi was closed for like 4 months straight once) gym is 24 hours so that is awesome, and there is a music studio that can be booked, we also have a dry cleaning company pick up service which is great, but the constant pool/ jacuzzi issues brought the score down a bit for me. Cleanliness-4/5, building is constantly getting swept, mopped and upkeep is kept on all the trees and flowers on the interior of the building which is great. Parking-4/5 I would give 5 stars but there is literally no guest parking, but we do have gated garages. Security-4.5/5, security would get a perfect score but there used to be a security guard that would literally follow you to your apartment and harass the heck out of you and management tends to side with security over the people that pay 2 grand or more a month.... Crime-3.75/5 stars, this could of easily been a 5 star and I hope they resolve the issue of why it isnt, that is the parking garage gate on the sublevel garage, it has been broken into multiple times and I for sure know of cars being broken into as well as stolen.That being said I have only heard of 2 cars being stolen out of the garage over 4 years so that is good. I still do believe that door should be replaced but I'm sure corporate wants to save that money. Tenants-5/5, . People in the building are pretty respectful and well mannered, it is a nice range of people but mostly 25-35 age range. I have lived here for 3 years in a 1BR, and overall have been very happy. The office staff is great, communication is fast and easy. The apartment is beautiful, I am very fortunate to be in the corner of the building on Vineland & Mccormick, so along with a balcony and great view I get to people watch in an interesting neighborhood. The Maintenance team also is top notch, every maintenance request I make is addressed within 24 hours. More recently, Management has done a good job of addressing some of the security & homeless issues that have surfaced over the past few years. Also, it is nice to see the sushi restaurant downstairs. I kind of wish we would get a bar in one of the other retail spaces, that would be awesome! Also, when I first moved in Management had some community activities that I thought was a nice way to meet neighbors (Dominos Pizza night, Wine night, etc), they should consider doing these again. read more

I was away for 2 days to Palm Springs for my wife's birthday and had a few Amazon packages land on the day I was not here. Upon return, I realised my packages have been taken from my front door, after reading a few more reviews, I realised this was a common event at Muse. The cost for the items were around 80-100$, not the end of the world, but extremely irritating that we can't feel safe from burglary and petty theft in our own building. read more

I have lived in Muse for 9 months now and can say that the best thing about this building is the wonderful staff: Andrea, Yesenia and Meshia in the leasing office, and *especially* Silvia and Abel on the tireless, always-smiling maintenance team. They are all super-friendly, attentive, and responsive to emails/phone calls. The building location is great - you can walk to many restaurants and bars, to the grocery store, the movie theater, the 24 Hour Fitness, and to the Metro station. The apartment is very nice. I get lots of compliments on the hardwood floors in the kitchen and living room, the bedrooms are large and closets are decent-sized, the master bathroom is *huge*, and the kitchen is a very good size with nice appliances. The dishwasher and the washer/dryer are lower-end models so they are *SO LOUD* - it sounds like a helicopter is in here when we do laundry, and there is no way to disable the ridiculously loud buzzers on these machines. But these are first-world problems, not deal-breakers. The deal-breaker I would say are some of the awful, *awful* tenants who live here and treat it like a dorm (as other Yelpers have noted) at Cannabis University. Poor Silvia has to regularly clean dog sh** and piss from the hallways, from the jerks who let their dogs do that; or she has to clean up trash and break down boxes that these jerks have left next to the trash chutes; or she has had to clean up spilled drinks and dog piss that people have left in the elevators, after others have walked through it and left a wet, muddy mess. I mean, this place is a smelly mess inside and out. Many of the tenants do not pick up after their dogs so the *entire* block surrounding this building is full of land-mines to dodge as you walk through, and reeks of dog sh** and piss - I am embarrassed to have anyone come visit me because they have to walk through that smelly, awful gauntlet to get through the front door. The management team had the sidewalks power-washed once since I have been here, which helped - but why can't people just clean up after their dogs? The walls are paper-thin so, like others have posted, you can hear *everything* - another first-world problem, but the rent they charge is not that cheap so I expected *some* wall insulation, and instead I can hear my neighbors coughing, putting away clothes, talking, etc., and worry about how high the cats and dogs in this building are getting, with *so much* pot being smoked here and floating through the walls and down the halls. If it weren't for the wonderful staff, I am sure I would have tried to get out before now - but Silvia and Abel are truly angels. I feel *awful* every time I see them dealing with BS issues the tenants have caused - so I hope management pays them very, very well because they deserve it! read more

I have lived here about 6 months and have not had many issues with anything. Worst thing that happened is when the elevator is out.
