The Rhythm Lounge is a new monthly swing dance on the 2nd Saturday of each month in Redwood City…read moreorganized by the same folk who bring you the fun Swing Central dance on Tuesdays. http://www.yelp.com/biz/swing-central-redwood-city I expect this event to be just as successful and enjoyable as Swing Central. The teachers and the DJs should all be good. The Imperial Ballroom is not far from Foresters Hall, the Swing Central location, and a great dance floor. The grand opening was Saturday, 12 January 2008 and very well attended. I highly recommend checking out The Rhythm Lounge. It looks like a typical schedule will be: 8pm - 9pm - Beginner Swing Lessons 8pm - 9pm - Intermediate Swing Lessons 9pm - midnight - Open Social Dancing Check the website for the actual schedule.

I wish the Rhythm Lounge happened more often than just one Saturday a month. It's another great…read moreswing dance put on by the people who run Swing Central, and seems to draw a similar (very friendly) crowd. I made it for the first time last night, and will certainly be making it a new part of my dance habit... (The next ones are June 13 and July 4, I think.) This month there was an intermediate class at 7 and beginner class at 8; the teachers were helpful and engaging, and found a good balance between fun and challenging for classes with a pretty wide range of skill levels. Social dancing was from 9 to midnight. The DJ, one of my favorites from Swing Central, played a great mix -- he always seems to do a good job paying attention to the energy of the room and varying the mood and tempo accordingly, keeping people happily dancing for the whole night. They're at a new venue in Burlingame starting this spring, which is a nice space for dancing. The dance floor is smooth and feels spacious although it's not huge; it stayed pretty busy for most of the dance, but in a way that mostly felt intimate rather than crowded. There's a kitchen area off to one side, with water and some snacks, and a kind of lobby area near the entrance that was good for cooling off and chatting. Unlike some other dances, where the really good dancers tend to keep to themselves in one corner, here people were doing a lot of mingling, even more so than at Swing Central. I'm pretty shy, but got asked to dance several times, and found many people approachable enough to do some asking myself.

It's a welcoming, chill space with tons of seating and a covered, dog-friendly patio. It's the perfect place to meet up with friends after work, curl up with a good book, or even host a corporate event. The staff is friendly and attentive, and Alan, the bartender, is a friendly, experienced leader. The kitchen whips up a wide variety of fresh salads, paninis (my favorites are the meatloaf, roast beef, caprese, thai chicken, and autostrada), wraps, and house-made desserts. The grilled cheese, mini paninis, and soups are fantastic happy hour snacks, too. Independently-owned businesses are becoming increasingly scarce of late, so come here to support a great local bar!

I honestly don't understand all the glowing reviews for B Street & Vine. Our experience was…read moredisappointing from start to finish. We sat outside, and the atmosphere felt tired and uninspired. There was nothing particularly inviting or memorable about the space. We ordered the bruschetta sampler ($24), choosing the mango, salmon, mushroom with prosciutto, and tomato mozzarella varieties. Surprisingly, they all tasted almost exactly the same. Nothing tasted fresh or vibrant. The bread was especially disappointing--bland, lacking texture, and seemingly devoid of flavor. The mango wasn't sweet, the tomatoes tasted like nothing, and even the mozzarella lacked freshness and character. The wine was equally underwhelming. My husband ordered the Tempranillo and I had the Albariño. Neither was enjoyable; both tasted harsh and overly alcoholic rather than balanced or flavorful. Even the presentation missed the mark. The glassware felt dated and unattractive, which only added to the overall feeling that the restaurant is past its prime. Unfortunately, this was not a memorable meal for the right reasons. With so many great dining options available, we won't be returning.

I didn't try any food this time around but I will say the person next to me had a steak rice bowl that looked really good. It must have been because I was looking one way for a little while and when I looked back, the bowl was empty! I had a great time and was served by the bartender JP. He did an excellent job, was super hospitable and friendly, and made some of the best strawberry infused lemon drops. I'll definitely stop by again when I'm in the area.

I'd definitely recommend visiting during the day or around sunset if possible. We grabbed seats at the bar and stayed until closing. The lounge was pretty busy and seemed a little understaffed, but the staff worked hard and were friendly throughout the night. The bartender was especially sweet and quickly figured out what kind of cocktails I liked after a couple of drinks. As for the drinks, their specialty cocktails were just okay for me. Not bad, but nothing particularly memorable. We ended up ordering classic cocktails instead. Overall, the views and service were the highlights of my visit. While I probably wouldn't come back specifically for the food or drinks, I did appreciate the staff's effort and hospitality.
