My Head on the Left - David's on the Right

I was last here over 10 years ago and mistakenly wrote a review about it under the Cafe Beignet outpost which is located here. I'll visit over to that entry and make a correction. For our recent trip, Gayle, David, and I wandered into the Musical Legends Park one evening and enjoyed listening to music together. It wasn't too crowded and it was nice to hang back with a decent sight line and good acoustics. Gayle and I then returned the next morning for a Cafe Beignet breakfast, and enjoying our meal within the Park. We might of been a little early, as music ensemble was staging for their performance as we left.

A great place to sit outside with a good amount of shade available while you listen to great music. Cafe Beignet is located here along with a slushy bar that serves frozen Hurricane, mango, and other drinks. The atmosphere is lovely with a small fountain and the legends statues. Bring cash to tip the musicians.

Stopped by to hear the live music on a weekend afternoon. The statues throughout the park are big and are perfect for photos. There is place to get coffee, drinks, and beignets! Plenty of tables to sit at throughout the park too. There was a live jazz band performing, and they even brought up one of the audience members to play! There were also heaters around the main sitting area, which was nice and warm! I Recommend stopping by for live music and coffee and food if you're in the area!!

Musical Legends Park is located smack dab in the middle of Bourbon Street in the French Quarter. There are multiple statues in the front of the park and a Cafe Beignet behind where live music is played every day. The statues, plaques, and displays are all a tribute to all the musicians who've played in New Orleans. There's a Cafe Beignet inside and also a couple places to buy food and drinks. It's actually a really nice sanctuary and the complete opposite of what is going on the street right outside. The band that we listened to was great and I'm assuming all bands who play here are also great. Sitting outdoors and listening to relaxing music is such a needed break from all the craziness.

Bourbon Street on a Tuesday night isn't nearly as hectic as Bourbon Street on a weekend night, but it was still fairly packed and rowdy when we headed out. We'd passed this little getaway a few times over the course of our stay and finally decided to duck in for a few. We made a beeline for the bar, where we waited for the bartender to finish explaining to the guy ahead of us that he needed some form of ID to sell him alcohol. It was a long conversation. We ordered a couple of drinks then made our way over to a table close-ish to the stage, so we could recline, imbibe and enjoy the live music. I don't know the name of the duo that was onstage that night - it was a trombone playing female singer and a male keyboard player - but they were talented. I loved the huskiness of her singing voice and the selection of songs they played for everyone. I wish we could have stayed a bit longer. We did hang out for a bit, but in the end we dropped a tip in the duo's bucket and headed back out into the night. We really could have stayed longer - we had nothing planned for the night - but the siren song of all the New Orleans things was calling to us, and we had to answer. If you're looking for a relatively calm place to catch your breath, head into the park. There are food options available at one of the kiosk/stores at the back (to the right of the bar), but we were still so full from lunch we couldn't even consider food at that time.

Love this place. It was a beautiful day and too pretty to be inside so this was a treat to sit in the courtyard listen to great live jazz music and have a delicious local cocktail. After watching everyone around us enjoying the beignets we had to get some. They were even better than they looked. We asked them to go light on the powered sugar so they probably would have been even better had we went with their original amount. Prices on food and drinks are very affordable. They do not offer table service but the lines at both the bar and cafe beignet go fast and they bring the food out hot to your table.

Everything about this place would make me come back again. Front the fast service, to the live entertainment, the food, and the great view. You place your order, take the number they hand you and a server will bring it out to you.

Ate breakfast here several mornings. There is a Cafe Beignet and a bar inside the Park and it is so NOLA to eat while being serenaded by very good musicians enjoying what they do.

An awesome gem tucked away on Bourbon Street with live music, a bar and Cafe Beignet.

Great little outdoor music venue to listen to some jazz for free. There is Cafe Beignet to get breakfast, NOLA favs entrees, adult and non-alcohol beverages including coffee and of course, beignets. Coffee and beignets were good. Frozen margaritas were tasty as well. Music was fantastic!

I love this place. It's a great place to grab a drink and enjoy some jazz music. They have some food there too . Although we did not order anything, the beer and music was awesome !

I visited the Musical Legends Park on a whim while in town to get a passport. I just so happen to be riding past and notice they were open and welcoming people in (only with covid vaccination cards) and decided to give them a try. I got the shrimp Po'boy which was super hard, cold, and unappetizing. I thought maybe that's the way it's done in New Orleans so I didn't really make a fuss about it, I just kept a mental note for future. However, I also got beignets and those were absolutely delicious!!! They were made to perfection and I felt like a complete fat a** stuffing my 3 beignets down because I had never had them before but I honestly didn't care being that they were that good Lol. The music and the vibe was very chill and relaxing. I loved everything about my experience (minus the entree) as well as the kind service I received so I will be back to give them another chance to redeem themselves.

Nice outdoor area over live music and beignets. Prime spot to leisurely be. I'm charmed in this center city!

We had a great time, chatted with other patrons and a few of the band members. Good drinks, prices are on the higher end at ~$15, but still affordable. Before I start, this is my review based on my experience. I've noticed some people complain about…read morethe music, paying the cover charge, seating or the size of the venue. I'm not here to argue any of those points. I will say this: expecting live musicians to perform for free until you decide whether they're worth paying is ridiculous. The cover is usually only $5...$10 max. If that's a dealbreaker, this probably isn't your place. Stay home and stream Spotify. Now... I have some friends in town, and whenever that happens, a Monday night trip to the Spotted Cat is basically mandatory. I've been coming here for years and years. Yes, it's super touristy now, but it still gives me the warm fuzzies every time I walk through those doors. So I'm presenting the "compliment sandwich" review. Never heard of it? You start with a compliment, slip in some constructive-ish criticism, then end with another compliment. Supposedly people receive feedback better that way. Let's see. First, the music. Outstanding. Chris Christy wasn't what I thought I wanted to hear until I actually heard him. I felt completely transported. Man, can that guy play the guitar. It felt kinda like gypsy music. Then came the Frenchmen Street Allstars. The last time I saw them, they had a different lead singer and, honestly, they kind of felt like a completely different band, aside from the phenomenal drummer. This version did not disappoint. It was a great mix of jazz and New Orleans standards. Both bands were great! **Now a note to management.** Great music isn't enough. The bar should be every bit as memorable as the stage. Forgive me, I didn't get the bartenders' names, so I have to describe them by physical traits. The first bartender, the guy with the mountain of curly hair, was friendly enough and made decent drinks. Later, another bartender with a short haircut took over and made the best drinks of the night. Then there was the bartender with the black and hot pink hair. She looked like she'd rather be anywhere else. She rarely smiled, her demeanor felt unwelcoming, and it almost came across as hostile. On top of that, the drinks she made were so weak I genuinely wondered if there was any alcohol in them. Seriously. They were that bad. Here's my philosophy: if you're going to be grumpy, aloof, or have some other off-putting trait, you'd better make a mean drink. Years and years ago there was a bartender named Curtis who wasn't exactly sunshine and rainbows, but that man could make a cocktail. I didn't need him to smile because the drink did all the talking. If the drink is mostly soda, though, friendliness becomes a lot more important. Unfriendly and bad bartending is a double whammy. She must be somebody's child or partner because I can't think of any other reason to employ a bad bartender. I hate to belabor the point, but the drinks aren't cheap. Cheap and bad I can take. For another comparison, there's another bartender there, I'm pretty sure her name is Chris. She's been there for years. She's all business. Maybe a little surly. Who am I kidding? A lot surly. But she's a character. More importantly, she makes a great drink. That's the kind of personality that somehow fits the Spotted Cat perfectly. Now let me end with the final piece of "bread" on my compliment sandwich. The doorman deserves his own review. That gravelly-voiced "Welcome to the Spotted Cat!" is part of the experience. Then he absolutely hammers that stamp onto your wrist. Somehow you don't even mind because you know what's waiting on the other side: incredible music, a fun room, and one of the best nights you can have on Frenchmen Street. Just don't let the bartender with the pink and black hair make your drink.
