Ok, Perspectives are a must! I suspect this eatery is a long time cultural phenomenon located next door to NW football stadium. It easily could be described as a non-mobile food truck not any larger then a train car. When one enters, there is a single aisle that works backwards (order in the back, pay up front). The problem is, this creates a awkward salmon swimming upstream pressure that is stressful when crowds are present. The food is what one would expect... made to order burgers and fries. When hungry, the food comes across 3-4 stars, but in perspective later that night when sitting on ones couch... maybe 1-2 stars. Bottom line, if one is in a hurry going to a NW game it will hit the spot. read more

Just up the ways a bit from Northwestern's football stadium is this little fast food joint. Prices are a little more than most fast food places, but the food is good. Not a lot of elbow room inside; it gets very crowded during the warmer months, and there's not much seating on the outside. But it's a nice place to stop if and when you're up in north Evanston. read more

I am a HUGE fan of cheese fries, I mean, who isn't!? Well anyways... On my stroll through the neighborhood and decided to stop here for some cheese fries, just a snack before dinner. When I went in I decided to order a Polish sausage as well, so glad I did! Why!? Because the cheese that I received with my fries was ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING! Unbelievable! I used to work very close to this eatery, and very often went here for lunch. Their hot dogs are excellent. One of the best I have had in the entire Chicago area. It's a small place, generally service is fast but can get crowded on certain days. But service is always friendly with a personal touch if you are a regular customer. I have to go to Evanston Hospital which is nearby once in a while & plan to drop by for lunch sometime. read more

Mustards is an Evanston icon. One cannot live in evanston and not have tried mustards at least once and chances are that if you tried it once, that time was not your last time. They make the simplest but best dogs in the city. Fresh fries are always a plus and personable staff is what tops it for me. It's a very welcoming environment and it's a great place to meet new people while waiting for your meal. Nothing more to say than to make sure you stop by if you are in town! read more

Mustard's has remained the same in price and quality for as long as I can recall, and I enjoy the atmosphere it presents with all of the NU memorabilia. I have to go back and try the burger. The place is very small and located right next to the Northwestern Football stadium. Hot Dog came on a unsteamed poppy seed bun. Vienna dog , Mustard, Relish, Onion, Pickle, Sport Pepper, Tomato, Celary salt. The dog had decent snap and good flavor. All around a solid dog. I would go back for sure if I am in the area and if you live near there I would frequent it often. The holdback on the stars is from the lack of a steamed bun. read more

The food at Mustard's Last Stand was alright, if a bit expensive for hot dog stand fare. The staff ranged from charmless to charming, and the space was clean except for one area that had been left filthy -- and I mean filthy -- by one completely clueless patron. The mess was so bad that I set about to clean it up when I got up to leave, and it took me two runs to the garbage can to get rid of it all. I filled my empty paper boat with fries that he had dropped on the floor and partially squished, and then I went back to pick up the eight zillion packets of salt that he had also tossed down there. This guy was a class act all the way. Had I noticed him making the mess to begin with, I would have told him to pick it up. Some people are unbelievably filthy and inconsiderate. Pretty average dog place in terms of food, cost comparable to other Evanston dog places. Space is limited inside- just a bar along the the side right up against the line. Wait time wasn't too bad, but it is kind of a cold shack in the winter months. If you are at a game stop by, otherwise probably not worth the trip to this area of Central Street. read more

I had purchased a Groupon for this establishment. It was for two hot dogs, two double cheeseburgers, two fries, and two drinks. A great deal. I went in to use it and was served quickly. The guy behind the register was friendly and did not seem to mind that I was using a Groupon which isn't always the case in smaller places. The food was as I remembered from years before. Hot dog stand fare cooked on a griddle. The double cheeseburgers were a cooked nicely. My kids loved them. The hot dogs snapped crisply with the pickles on top and tasted great. The fries are very good when they're hot but they are the thinner kind and cool down quickly if you are taking it to go. Many are gone by the time I get home with the order. Really delicious food. My only issue is the amount of cheese that comes with the cheese fries. They just give you a small cup of cheese. (Cheese fries are my favorite.) They don't serve it like they do at other restaurants with the cheese poured all over the top of the fries. They use amazing cheese though, kind of like Merkts Cheddar that's melted, but I cannot tell if it is Merkts or some similar brand. Last time I went here I found hair on one of our burgers and they put sport peppers on them with the stems attached.

I ordered a hot dog with large cheese fries through Grubhub and when I got it, the hot dog was soggy and cold and the fries were also cold, and to top things off, cheese sauce was curdled and oily. The whole order was completely inedible and absolutely disgusting! Grubhub tried to get them to remake my order and they refused! Obviously they have very low standards and poor quality food. I plan on trying this place so I checked the reviews. A number of reviews went after the cheese sauce. Most of those reviews are useless and proclaim the cheese "terrible," without much explanation or reliable description, so I checked on it myself. It appears that Mustard's Last Stand , unlike most other comparable places, uses real cheese (Merkts) instead of oil-based yellow cheese sauce. I reviewed the ingredients of Merkts products and they appear (according to the Merkts web site) to be almost entirely Wisconsin cheddar cheese. For whatever that is worth. It isn't going to have the consistent texture or taste of fake Velveeta-style cheese sauce, so that would explain some of the complaints. read more

So many people are talking about the hot dogs, but where Mustard's truly shines is their Polish Sausage. They start with a well-flavored Vienna Polish like you could get anywhere in Chicago, but the preparation is key. When you order, they toss it in the deep fryer to start. Then they pull it out and put it on the grill. It flames up. Get it with mustard and grilled onions and you'll never be satisfied with another Polish. It's cripsy and smoky tasting on the outside, moist and flavorful on the inside. Heaven. Trust me. You owe it to yourself to try this. Growing up as child, this was one of my favorite food spots. I haven't been here in about 16 years. I was in the neighborhood today so I stopped in. The staff was friendly and displayed average customer service. The menu was on the "pricey" side for basic selections. For example, a polish (by itself) is $5. Compared to similar restaurants, Musrard's prices are $2-$3 more. As far as the food, it wasn't anything to write home about. My burger tasted like a frozen patty, the polish had a lot of gristle/fat pieces inside, and the fries tasted like they were cooked in chicken grease. The cheese sauce was delicious. I've been eating at mustards for over 25 years. It's always been my go to in the area when I'm craving some great comfort food. The cheddar they use here is top notch. Cheese fries are awesome. I get cheddar burger more often than not and it always hits the spot. Can't go wrong with much on the menu. Burgers, hotdogs, polish, Italian beef etc. Mustards last stand never disappoints. Food is fine, but hardly worth waiting two hours for the complete meal I ordered. Not only did my initial order take over an hour to arrive, but part of the order was missing. When I called, I was told they'd send someone "right out" to bring the missing food. The missing part of my order took over an hour to arrive, AND they gave the driver the wrong address. The cherry on top is they sent a different driver the second time, and since I'd given the first driver all of my cash for his tip, the poor guy who brought the missing food got stiffed, and I was left awkwardly apologizing. I will say that the young woman who took my order and answered my follow-up calls was polite and friendly, as were both delivery men. read more

I live nearby and have come to this place twice. I have to laugh at all the other reviewers who are aghast that a hot dog stand would dare put ketchup on their everything hot dog. How could they? Please. Order it how you want it. Both times we ate here, the burgers were delicious, albeit skinny. The fries are so-so and the shakes are pretty decent. My downgrade to 2 stars comes from the older guy who runs the cash register and gets the drinks. We went in here the other night and my wife ordered a large cheese fry and a root beer. I then ordered a burger special with fries. After we paid, he read our order to us again and we noticed he had changed my wife's large fries to a small and handed her a coke instead of a root beer. When she tried to correct him on the root beer, he acted like she had made the mistake and insinuated she had actually asked him for a coke. Um, no. I heard here say "root beer" very clearly. When she told him about the large fries, he said "I gave you the special. It comes with small fries." Ok.
