After about 11 months of bringing my pomapoo here, I've decided I won't be returning. I'll start with my most recent visit. I brought my dog in over Easter weekend, and because I was injured, I wasn't able to fully brush her out beforehand like I usually do. She's a Pomeranian with thick fur, and while she did have some matting in typical areas, it was not severe. I've worked in a veterinary setting, so I'm familiar with what's manageable. When my husband dropped her off, he was told they wouldn't be able to achieve the usual teddy bear cut and suggested shaving her down instead. What wasn't communicated clearly was just how short that would be. When I picked her up, she was shaved extremely close, far beyond what I expected, and it was honestly shocking. She looked nothing like herself. This isn't the first issue. On a previous visit, she was cut so short that she developed irritation and a rash, and her tail was left uneven to the point that I had to trim it myself after it got soiled immediately. I've also since heard from friends and family (that I referred) who've had similar experiences, especially during busy weekends or holidays. It seems like overbooking may lead to rushed grooms and defaulting to shaving dogs down rather than working through coats more carefully. I also want to note that vaccination status was never asked about, which initially made this place convenient for me at the time, but in hindsight, that's not something I'm comfortable with. I've communicated before that I don't want my dog shaved down this short, and I just don't feel that preference has been respected or clearly discussed. MVP is the perfect name for this Grooming Salon. I was nervous the first time I took my dog, Gracie, in because she had gone to another groomer who did a terrible job on her and said it was because she did not behave well. When I picked her up from MVP she looked amazing! She was so perfectly groomed and looked so cute. When I asked how she was they said she was a good girl. I have taken her in again and with the same results. Cesar is very patient (with me haha) and calm which creates a nice atmosphere for the dogs. I've brought our 2 year old Shih Tzu to different groomers, ranging from Petco, PetSmart, Posh Pooch (in Seal Beach), and another local groomer. They all asked how short do I want it and they all used shavers. To my surprise this place uses scissors and shavers! I actually had a choice and we loved it. The person who helped us was Rachel. She's a very nice person (easy to talk to) and her dog is such a sweetheart. I forgot the owners dog, bless that dog! That dog has feistness in them but as soon as you approach them and say hi they come up and sniff you and they calm down. Bless your heart for adopting that little 3 legged fellow!! On to the grooming part. I wanted a puppy cut it to also keep the hair length. Rachel was like well puppy cut is short do you want scissors cut and to my surprise I was like "what?!! I can choose that?!" lol she then busts out the sample of the scissor cut lengths and I was like okay let's do the 3/4 one. I did warn her that my dog is sensitive around the nails. I was told to come back maybe in two hours, but she actually finished sooner. When I came to pick him up she said he was good, but he does let you know when he doesn't like something. Lol, I wonder what my dog did...as she handed him over the counter, Bear had a bandana on him and smelled nice. He was all handsome, but I did notice his hair around the tail was still long so I asked if she could cut it some more. I've never seen Bear stand so still and patient as she started to cut! I was like oh my god how come he stands so still with you?! When I try he does not listen. Rachel's response was so funny! She mentioned "It's the same thing with kids. They behave better with other people than with the parents!" So true!! This is a small mom & pops store and I will come back again for Bears next grooming. read more

I was really apprehensive to bring my pomeranian to any grooming places. She is 5 years old and I only took her to a groomer once to get her nails trim. They were rough with her. So I always weary about groomers. I asked for suggestions at the Pomeranian Southern California meetup group, someone highly recommended MVP grooming. So I decided to try it. I took my pom to the shop, Cesar greeted me. When he found out my pom has never been to a professional groomer before, he immediately warned me that my pom may get really stressed out, if that happened, the cut may not be as perfect as I would like it to be. I was worried, but I appreciated Cesar told me up front that the cut maybe affected by my pom's stress level. I waited outside in my car for almost 2 hours, and finally I got a call that he is done with the cut. Cesar said next time will be better. What do you think? But then I called to schedule another appt for my Dog to get groomed, the person that answered very rude like if didn't want to be there and when I asked him did he still have opening for the day he said " no I'm booked for today until tomorrow and I told him ok so do you have anything for tomorrow and he just clicked the phone. It's not easy finding a groomer whom you can trust with your fur babies, but Cesar is someone that I feel comfortable and safe leaving my fur babies with.
