My Canh has been in Garland for long time but I have never been here. We arrived around 7 pm on a Saturday, and it was pretty quiet at first. But as soon as 9 hit, the place really started to fill up, they close at 11 pm. It looks to be family run. The menu reminded me of First Chinese BBQ, with a big selection of Chinese-Vietnamese dishes. This is a family style restaurant, you get a big pot of rice, and the entrees are meant to be shared. My family has been coming here for years and loves My Canh because they have a huge variety of Chinese/Vietnamese dishes and any food critics in my family can find at least one dish they enjoy! Food is authentic and full of flavors. The feeling is that this is a neighborhood staple restaurant for weekly dining. The place could definitely use a big hug, but the great food, food prices, and family style serving sizes make it all worth it. The staff was all friendly and accommodating for us. Best Chinese gourmet restaurant in town over two decades running. Try their clam soup for hang overs. If you like fish, order the steam whole flounder or whatever whole fish is available. This is a perfect go-to for late night Vietnamese and Chinese food! On the outside it looks "meh" and on the inside it looks kinda "meh" but when you need real food, this is the place! DH's favorite are always Fried Black Cod with soy sauce (their soy sauce is kinda sweet and salty) and fried soft shell crab. My favorite dish is the pork blood and intestine hotpot listed on the list of special items not translated to english. The server can translate all the items for you if you ask. The crab fried rice special item is also a favorite but it is a little pricy at $50. The clams are ginormous and definitely good quality. My friend and I ordered too much food for two people, as we did not expect to have this much food. Peking duck comes with two courses: the duck and duck soup (or duck stir-fry with bean sprouts). Since we already had the pork and black egg congee, we decided to opt for the stir-fry. It was SO GOOD! We also had a curry beef dish, the beef was well cooked and tasted pretty good, too. At the end, there was a complimentary dessert made of sticky rice balls. Since a lot of my friends raved about the crab fried rice, I decided to take one to go. OMG, the portion was HUUUUGE! Definitely enough to feed you, your friends, your boy/girlfriend(s), your dog, cat, neighbors...not gonna lie, I ended up eating crab fried rice two days in a row for breakfast, lunch, dinner, late night snack and shared some with a friend. I heard it was shut down once before but they reopened it. Well, they need to clean this place up for a re-opening because it's the exact same stuff. This is not my choice of restaurant to pick but I was with other people and it was convenient at the moment. their black bean sauce tofu is the best out of everything we got in my opinion. Between six adults and three little children...we got a combination lau, two bean sauce tofu, eggplants, soft shell crab, goose intestine, and scallops. The goose was an acquire taste...so don't get that unless you can eat almost anything. avoid going to their bathroom at all cost because it will make you feel like you are in a third world country...nasty so nasty. This is our go-to restaurant after a fun night of drinking and dancing. They close late (around 3:00am ish) and always have the patience for the rowdy, drunk crowd. Every time I go I see the exact people that went to the same club I did. Great (or drunk) minds think alike. On our last visit, we ordered chicken feet, rice soup, clam soup, beef with chinese broccoli, combination pan fried noodles, fried tofu stuffed with shrimp and chrysanthemum tea. I did not sample everything we ordered but took pictures. I will tell you that my favorite dish was the clam soup. It was piping hot, had tons of white pepper and perfectly seasoned. This soup would be awesome if you needed a pick me up from being sick. The rest of the food here is on par with most Chinese restaurants. Same goes for the service. It is not extremely good nor is it horribly bad. It is just perfect for those late night munchies afer the club. Oh, and yes, I have seen someone get beat and actually shot in the parking lot. My friend and I drove up as it was happening and called the cops and high tailed it out of there. Luckily, we were in the car and this was happening outside the restaurant. For late-night Chinese/Thai/Vietnamese in Dallas, this is pretty much as good as it gets. If it's daytime, then sure, there's other places you should visit, for Chinese or Vietnamese, in this part of town. The menu at this place leans more heavily toward the Chinese (but not Sichuan) side. Skip the combination plate (which is served with a decent wonton soup and vegetable egg roll) even if it is at bargain prices and the large size is big enough to feed two. They're not as great as the rest of the menu, especially when comparing with the flat noodles (which you can find on the back of the menu). And also, there's specials written on the wall - but in Chinese and Vietnamese. The bad thing about this place is that the service was spotty at best - and we had to get the attention of the waitress several times. The other bad thing is that the cooks in the kitchen are a little bit lazy in their execution - my flat noodles came clumped together at times that I'd sometimes be eating noodles that have not been seasoned on both sides as the result. But luckily, the noodles still tasted great, and with the beef. The place feels "dirty" but partly because it's an old building and the interior is in need of an renovation. But I wouldn't let it deter anybody from coming to visit. When I came on a weeknight after 10 pm, this place was packed. And as a sign of things, the restaurant next door, which was also open after 10 pm on a weekday, was literally empty. read more

Pretty good late night Asian food. Authentic Chinese and Vietnamese. Menu is in both languages, so you know your at a legit place. We ordered a bunch of appetizers, all pretty good. Among the ones I remember: the clam soup, wontons in chili soy sauce, fried bass, fried intestine, scallion omelette, beef tendons, and the spinach with garlic sauce. Restaurant itself doesn't look appealing, but food makes up for it. Service was nice friendly and fast. They speak both Viet, canton. and mandarin. We love this place. A total hole in the wall. It's not fancy or pretty inside. But, it's always clean. Service is friendly and fast. We usually start with either Wonton Noodle Soup or Wonton in Hot Sauce. We love the Shrimp in Lobster Sauce, Beef with Chinese Broccoli, and Beef with Double Mushrooms. My absolute favorite is the Squid in Black Bean Sauce. My wife's favorite is the Combination Fried Rice. DO NOT go there for lunch. You will be horrible disappointed as they don't open until 5:00 PM. The egg drop soup is one of the best I've had and they have clam soup that I enjoy as well. The Peking duck is good and I love the pork chop with xo sauce. The beef stir fry with veggies is good too. The food is flavorful for the most part, but the service however suucks alllooottttt. One of the waitresses is always nice and friendly, but the other workers are not that friendly. The guy at the counter is usually always rude in person and on the phone. He does not know how to treat his customers.
