I know this place is known for thier yellow crepe banh xeo(?) But I love thier green waffle here. Garland is hella far for me but whenever I am down here, I love coming here just for these waffles. These waffles are really different from the ones I have tried because it is super crispy. It tastes like a fortune cookie but the inside is chewy green rice cake with bits of coconut occasionally. Came here to eat banh xeo and catch up with a friend and we ended up ordering two! The batter was thin and crispy and not too flour-y if you know what I mean. The portion of one is like a good decent size which can feed like two people comfortably with room left in their stomach for another dish. I also got nuoc mat (artichoke iced tea) which was so refreshing and tasty I still dream about it. We did come like 1.5 hours before closing, so we were the only people there. Such a welcome switch from the typical Pho restaurants! They don't even serve Pho or vermicelli bowls, the standard Vietnamese options. Instead, they have the WONDERFUL Banh Xeo, a coconut and rice flower crepe, filled with shrimp, pork and bean sprouts. The key is to wrap a piece in lettuce with some mint and chomp chomp your way through it! The Black Pepper Beef was delicious, stir fried with onion and jalapeños. I came here with my mom on a Monday afternoon for some Bánh xèo! The Bánh xèo was huuuuuge; really crispy on the outside and melts in your mouth. I love eating it with the fresh greens and dipping it in fish sauce. We also ordered the banh knot, but it tasted as though they were not fully cooked. Their waffles are amazing too. It is very crispy outside, and chewy inside. But when it gets cold, it becomes tasteless. We ordered some noodles with pork. They tasted like pho, but different. I much preferred the regular pho. I also tried their noodles with tomato and blood pudding and stuff last time, it wasn't my type either. Lastly, we got a passion fruit juice, it tasted like orange juice with passion fruit syrup, but still rich in flavor, so I liked it. The Vietnamese coffee was good too. Banh xeo is prepared differently throughout the country with different recipe, and sometimes even a different name, depending on the region and province. Here at La Xanh, banh-xeo is definitely the Southern style. The batter, which is made from rice flour and coconut milk, is what really determine if banh-xeo is good or bad. And La Xanh nails it when it comes to the batter. The Southern people always add coconut milk to the rice flour to make the crepe extra delicious. The crepe is stuffed with bean sprouts, mung beans, shrimp and thin slices of cooked pork. So, the crepe ends up being a combination of soft and crunchy textures. Be ready to dig in when they bring you the accompaniments which are sweet and sour fish sauce and fresh vegetables. Banh-xeo is a do-it-yourself dish that involves the messy but delicious process of wrapping the crepe in lettuce with cilantro and basil. This place makes really good pandan waffles. I placed 2 orders of waffle of 1 order of crepe. The waiter put both of the order in 1 paper bag. When I try to open the front door holding my to go food, the bag ripped and all of the waffles fell to the ground. The lady owner and her daughter saw what happened. The owner apologized and her daughter go back inside to get me another paper bag to put in my dirty pandan waffles. When I got home, I called them.
