I cannot say enough wonderful things about Scott's Kennels. They cared for my senior dog, Moxie, for nearly a week while I was over 3,000 miles away for work--and to say I was nervous would be an understatement. Moxie has special needs (a form of epilepsy) and very little experience staying in a kennel, so I was deeply concerned not only for her health, but also for how she would handle the stress of a new environment. I checked in twice while I was away, just to make sure everything was okay. Each time, the staff reassured me with such genuine warmth and kindness. It was immediately clear how much they cared about her--they spoke about Moxie like she was their own. I was so touched to learn that they were taking her out for extra one-on-one time and giving her special attention beyond the standard routine. When I picked her up, I was honestly amazed. She was happy, playful, and--somehow--even healthier than when I dropped her off. I had prepared special meals and treats for her, and they followed everything carefully and thoughtfully. (They also offer the option to use their food, which is great for flexibility.) The facility itself is incredibly clean, and the staff are not only professional but truly compassionate animal lovers. It's clear they spent a tremendous amount of time monitoring her, caring for her needs, and making sure she was comfortable and safe. It's now been over 24 hours since I brought her home, and I genuinely feel like she is an even happier, healthier dog after her stay--which is something I never expected. I had worried I might come home to a stressed dog who refused to eat or had experienced a seizure. Instead, I found the exact opposite. I highly, highly recommend Scott's Kennels. They gave me complete peace of mind, and I now know that if I ever need to travel again, Moxie will be in the best possible hands. read more

This place came highly recommended by friends but I had a TERRIBLE experience with the grooming department. I called to make sure that they did Golden Doodle cuts because they're a little more specific than a regular dog groom. The woman who answering the phone put me on hold to check with the groomer and then came back to let me know that they did. We booked for the following week. I was out of town and my house sitter dropped our dog off. Thvey actually called me when he was done because they had my number from booking the appointment and I called her to pick him up. When she picked him up she was surprised that he was completely shaven because she's seen him after a groom for the last 9 years. They actually told her to call if I was an unhappy. As soon as I saw a picture, I let the owner know that I was unhappy and wanted a refund. I shared exactly what happened and how disappointed I was because I could obviously shave my dog myself. At first he told me this was a normal Golden Doodle cut so I sent pictures of his last groom and then he told me that I was supposed to call to inform them of how I wanted him groomed. I was confused. I made it clear during my initial call how he was to be groomed and they had my phone number if they had any further questions. They did NOT offer to make this right in any way and I WOULD never recommend them to anyone. Terrible customer service. read more

Years ago I was going through a tough time and had to board my 3 small dogs until I could get better situated. They were there longer then I expected but my dogs were well cared for I had been taking my toy poodle to Scott's to be groomed after a bad experience elsewhere and after the first visit Dunkin LOVED going . I can't believe they cut off my dogs whiskers! I brought my dog in for a full groom. Hair cut, bath and nails. I asked for her hair to be cut short which they did, but they cut her whiskers down to nothing. I have brought my dog to other groomers dozens of times and they NEVER cut them off. You can also see the rough job they did by all the razor lines in her fur. They also missed a few spots that I had to fix when I got home. The staff is very friendly but the facility doesn't smell very clean. I do not think we will be going back here. I still can't believe they cut off my dogs whiskers...... read more

Found owner rude and unwilling to listen to a reasonable issue I had with his operations manager about the way he dealt with my dog and rudeness to me. He obviously has limited people skills and his ability to handle my dog in an appropriate way was seriously lacking. read more

They were very nice and courteous. They toke good care of my Alaskan husky puppy they took her for walks let her play with the other dogs they played with her as well they had a little kitty pool when I went to pick her up and she was playing. When I brought her home she was so exhausted she passed out she had so much fun I don't think she wanted to leave. read more

After checking out a few kennels in our surrounding area, we're happy that we went with Scott's for boarding our fur babies. The staff there are fantastic, especially Larissa! She invited me to stop by any day to get a tour of the facility, that alone relayed the confidence she has in her coworkers, the cleanliness of the kennels and the care the animals receive. I couldn't have been more impressed at that initial visit. What impressed me the most was that she not only introduced us to the staff working that day, she also introduced us to the animals. Her love for the animals was evident by her interactions and knowledge of each lodger. She knew them by name and gave us a brief personality assessment of each of them. Larissa truly was the reason I felt comfortable with the kennel. Her and her coworker Shea, really put my mind at ease. It appears that the facility is in the process of some renovations, AC being installed, some newer kennels and some recent grass seeding/yard improvement. As this was the first time these two have been boarded, they were pretty anxious. Almost as anxious as I was! They were hesitant to eat initially, the staff went out of their way to ensure that they did. Fresh cooked cubed chicken was added to their kibble and their eating pattern was accessed. It was discovered that they were grazers in this new environment and their food bowls were left out for them longer. The staff were receptive and respectful of my concerns with large play groups and agreed to exercise our girls together and hand pick one or two dogs that they(the staff) were familiar with to introduce to our girls. While our fur babies were there, I received pictures and a video of them clearly enjoying themselves. We had family members stop by to check up on them, I mean visit them...the reports I received were all positive. We've already secured lodging for September and December at Scott's Kennels. If you need to board your pet I highly suggest you use Scott's and book soon as they fill up quickly. read more

This kennel provided our dogs (Chocolate Lab and Golden Retriever) with a spacious kennel, comfortable sleeping supplies, and room to run and play. I love that my two dogs are allowed to stay together in one kennel, because it saved on cost and helped our dogs' anxiety towards a new kennel. I have never been to a more reasonably priced place with staff who really enjoy being with the animals. I brought my pit mix there for the weekend and there was no hesitation to take her as long as she was up to date with vaccinations. It was nice to see they weren't discriminate against her breed (many other places are). The facility was clean and from what I can see on my tour and visits that the dogs and cats were happy. I also like that it's on a dead end with only one neighbor so your dog gets to be walked without distractions. I got to leave her bed, toys and treats with her so she felt more at home and was able to call anytime I wanted to check in on her. When I picked her up she didn't even recognize me, she just went with the staff thinking she was off for a walk, haha. We will be back again. read more

Tucker had a great visit at Scott Kennels. He was happy and tired when we picked him up. We had tried a kennel near our home. There were so any other dogs and an owner that yelled a lot that Tucker was clingy and anxious when we brought him home. He was very content today after his day at Scotts. We were spending a few days in the Mystic/Stonington area for a summer holiday and were looking to board our dog nearby. We like to travel with her and board her near our lodging so that we can take her out during the day and spend time with her. We'd gotten a recommendation for a lovely boarding place but found them completely booked when we called. In fact, the area was quite busy during the height of the season and most places were full. But a call to a local animal hospital for a recommendation brought us to Scott's Kennels in North Stonington. They were wonderfully friendly and helpful on the phone and did still have room to take her. And so our precious Hadley stayed there and we do have quite a few good things to say. The staff is universally friendly and caring. Our dog had a 4' x 4' private indoor space as well as access to a 4' x 10' private outdoor space. The animal hospital told us that the owner of Scott's Kennels is a nice man and, indeed, his is. We found him to be a gentle soul who knows all the animals that stay with him and even knew exactly how much and when our pup had eaten the day before. The facility will accept all manner of your small beloved critters for boarding, not just dogs and cats. The hours were convenient and the staff flexible and trusting about our comings and goings. The prices, too, were ridiculously cheap. As for the downside, the place is pretty much of a dump and smells like the outhouse of a zoo. We understand the nature of the business but, at the same time, we've been to a few nicer boarding places before that didn't smell anything like that. We found it a bit ironic that they also offer bathing and grooming because our dog began to smell like zoo almost instantaneously...as did we. If she'd been bathed there it would have been a fruitless exercise. As a bit of business advice, the prices were so much lower than anywhere else that the owner could easily raise them by a couple of bucks in order to have a bit more cash to devote to cleaning staff. Nevertheless, the place met our needs, our dog was no worse for wear and we gave her a major bath as soon as we returned home. Truthfully, if we head back to the area we'd still try to book earlier and get her into one of the nicer places. But, in a pinch, Scott's Kennels will do. read more

We have used Scotts Kennel many times over the past 15 years. Our dogs have always been happy when we take them there. They even know their names when we arrive. They have a nice space and the dogs are not cooped up in small cages. I would recommend this kennel to anyone. When I asked our vet about it, he said it is a very good kennel. They treat dogs like dogs, not humans. They show them a lot of attention and love. You can tell they truly enjoy the animals. If they leave there smelling a bit like a dog as the last review stated, it is because they are dogs and probably love acting as such. The place is very clean and always has been. When you have so many animals in one place, it will always smell like animals. I would much prefer that to toxic chemicals always being used around my pets. They never have a problem with diseases there. read more

I had used Scott's Kennels for years when our other lab was with us. We never had any issues with Oliver's care. As a matter of fact, he loved going there. Yes, he smelled stinky when I picked him up, as he did from any kennel I ever used, but a bath when he got home did the trick. The owners are nice folks, they are on-site and they were always available on short notice. We looked at a few kennels that were closer to us but the staff was a bit inconvenienced by our visit and the prices were a bit overboard for basic kenneling services. And then there was a charge for everything extra, to place meds (monthly heartworm pills) in food, etc.. I have always been happy with Scotts' and know my canine pal is safe and in good hands. And they don't break the bank ;) read more

I've used Scott's Kennels for years and years. Like the previous poster mentioned, it can -- depending on when you're there -- smell like a, well, a kennel. But my dogs go there happily. The staff, and especially the owner, are unfailingly polite and thoughtful. When my older dog needed medication three times daily, they agreed without hesitation and didn't charge for that additional service. I'm sure that there are more luxurious accommodations out there, but -- for the money, the onsite owner, and the care -- I keep going back to Scott's. read more
