First time here. I was in the area so I decided to try this place. Very clean establishment located in an outdoor mall. Plenty of parking but it does gets very busy during lunch rush hours. I ordered 3 meat Combo with brisket, pork ribs and chicken with Mac and Cheese and BBQ Baked Beans. The meats was tender, but very dry, tasteless and bland. I was very disappointed! The Mac and Cheese and BBQ Baked Beans was just okay. The BBQ sauce was too spicy, maybe next time I'll order the medium/mild sauce on the meat instead on the side. Well we tried it. My Father's BBQ and for the record this is a women owned business. And that is a wonderful thing! Chef and owner and first ever ive known of in this type of restaurant. Saturday of the 4th weekend and it was pretty busy. BE PREPARED TO WAIT!! Maybe you can call ahead, I'm not sure. We waited 1.5 hours for a slab of beef ribs, beef hot links, brisket, Mac n cheese, collards, and bbq baked beans. For the record all of you complaining about the wait, stop. All of you complaining about the brisket being fatty and dry, stop. For the record brisket is a fatty cut, so do your homework. Beef ribs are my favorite BBQ so I was pleasantly surprised. Brisket was very tender. Beef links, I really enjoyed. They have great kicky spices! Wonderful smoke rings on the meats! What I think makes this bbq a little different is all the meat is dry rubbed. (Not the links) and the flavorful sauce is on the side for dipping and slathering. Try with out sauce and with see which you like, you have the option. Collards greens were ok. I really enjoyed the MnC, delish and pasta was not over done and it was not dried out. Bbq baked beans were really good! This place is in Carson and for socal bbq it's the best I've tasted. I'm pretty critical on these types of restaurants, you can see some of past ones I've reviewed. Go and check this place out worth the wait. But next time I'll try calling my order in. The food was good and the service at the counter was good, but the food took about 45 min to be served. I ended up asking for take out instead. During my wait they kept running out of sides and, I was asked to change my order twice because food kept running out. I decided to stay and wait for my order because my order was paid for and by then I had been there for at least 30 minutes. By the time we made it back home the food was cold and my family was not hungry anymore. We did NOT enjoy the food at all we were over it. Was looking for some savory soul food on a Sunday after service and had no luck in a few spots that were closed in Long Beach. I am a Carson native but had never been to My Fathers BBQ before. My grandma remembered the name and we went. Ngl the wait was a bit but it was well worth it. The catfish was light and crispy and came with a delicious hot sauce. The Mac and cheese, yams and black eyed peas were the other sides I chose and I must say I was thoroughly impressed! I really don't like yams and man those were seasoned perfectly. Every time I come here I have a somewhat bad experience. Not with the ppl but with the food I really like this place a lot & I love to support my ppl. But the 1st time I went, they didn't have chicken & I was the first person when they opened up. Not really a problem. Now the next time I went, I ordered thru yelp. Yelp tells me my food is read for pick up, I go to pick it up. I get there, and my food isn't ready. The representative tells me, it's going to take 10 more minutes. No problem. I wait & she brings me 2 hot links after waiting 20 MINUTES. I said "I thought it came with 3..?"...She states "They're usually cut up but these are thicker" That makes no sense. The menu said 3 you brought me 2. The menu doesn't say "3 link dinner or 2 thicker ones for the same price" smh I'm so disappointed. Ya know, when a joint sells outta stuff, it's because people are buying! Late one day I went in and there was still brisket- had that and a couple sides, Mac salad and beans. All of it was tasty. If I fault the brisket, it was a bit dry from the slicing- but the sauce took care of that. Got some fat which I like and a bit of burnt end which I love. The sides had great flavor. I have never eaten at this establishment. For the simple fact that it never smells like barbecue when I pull up, so I'm always like "naw". But today prove me right. I ordered a single meat, two side dish and was very disappointing. The greens were beyond salty and had a very weird film on them. The potato salad was between mashed potatoes and onion powder were the only flavors I was getting. The star of the show, which were my rib tips were so dry ,overcooked and old they were like jerky! I called to the restaurant to complain about my meal and when I went back, it took not only 15 to 20 minutes for them to get me a new order, but they did not even have what I ordered back in my new order. Lunch time from a class at Cal State Dominguez Hills with a half hour was just in time here at My Father's BBQ. I was a little sad that they didn't have tri tip, but when I saw their brisket I was ok with it. Smelled great inside as their well seasoned smoker is behind the counter. My buddy and I had the same sandwich, brisket. Served on Texas toast was different as I assumed it was coming out on a roll. The meat was tender, flavorful and very very tasty. Was ready right on time -- literally received a text advising me order was ready for p/u as I was parking. Ordered several plates: pulled pork, spare ribs & brisket. All were delicious. I'm not a big fan of brisket -- prefer pork bar-b-que -- but this brisket was simply fabulous. Moist, tender with a great smokey flavor. Sauces are good, too. Terrible. Maybe it was the holiday weekend but everything yesterday was just terrible. We didn't mind the two hour wait for our food. It was the attention to detail and good that was terrible. After waiting 1 1/2 hours we were informed they only had 1lb of our 2lb order for chicken links. We had to sub and we did so with ribs. Then our order came out missing two loaded potatoes and the trimmings for the salmon dinner. So we waited for another 20-30 minutes. Then we get home and our coleslaw is spoiled. I assume they must of had it out from The time we ordered til it was ready. We ordered: Salmon dinner 2 lbs of chicken links Half tray of Mac and cheese Half tray of coleslaw 2 loaded potatoes We got: Salmon dinner- it was ok 1lb of chicken links in which the outside was done but not the middle. 1 lb of ribs- which was 2 beef ribs under cooked and red Half tray of Mac and cheese- good Half tray of coleslaw- spoiled 2 loaded potatoes- good although it was mostly brisket and cheese I was so mad and hungry that we just ate the Mac and everything was thrown away or put up to recook later. read more

I tried to support a local black business and look how they did me. This is beyond the scraps. I ordered a pound of rib tips and they served me these burnt, old, hard tips. I know times is hard for everyone and y'all probably didn't want to waste, but this should have been thrown in the trash. This is unacceptable to serve to a customer. I had heard of this restaurant on the radio for quite some time. I was excited to go there. The atmosphere was what I expected of a small soul food restaurant. The soulful music added a familiar flair of the culture. I ordered the catfish, greens, mac & cheese. The sides were very good. The catfish was over breaded for my taste. I did not care for the sweet tea. It was not homemade and you could tell from the first sip. The service was good. We were greeted with a smile and the waitress was attentive. We finished our food before we could even take pictures of it!!We had the brisket, pulled pork, Mac and cheese, beans, and potato salad. Brisket and pulled pork were SO TENDER and delicious . Potato salad was very fresh, you could see and taste the fresh dill, hints of bacon and onions. The macaroni and cheese was CHEESY and seasoned. Everything was so good. Customer service was fantastic, everyone was super friendly and grateful for the support. We were the first customers for the day so the greens and cookies were still cooking but I'm sure they are also delicious. We are eagerly awaiting the full re-opening and will be back again. Honestly truly, this spot is FIRE! The best brisket on the west coast and trust I've been trying and hunting for some. I also love their rib tips, Mac and cheese, greens with cabbage, ribs and links. Well now I know why this place is only 3.5 stars. I ordered the chicken meal and the turkey leg meal, through Grubhub. When I arrived 45 minutes later to pick it up, the lady at the counter said they don't have any chicken or turkey! What barbecue place doesn't have chicken?! She didn't say that they had run out, but made it sound like they didn't have it available. Weird. About six months ago my wife went there and placed an order. She waited over 45 minutes with no end in sight, so she canceled the order and left. This place does have good barbecue, but their service is awful. I'm not a BBQ expert by any means but the brisket here is hands-down the best I've had. The brisket was so well seasoned and tender. It literally melted in your mouth! I also got a side of mac n cheese and it was delicious. It's not as cheesy as other places. It's definitely a hole in the wall, I probably would've never visited if it wasn't a recommendation. Last weekend we visited the Long Beach BBQ festival and came across this BBQ place that had a booth at the festival. So as a Yelper I started Yelping the business to see what their ratings is.... The food looked good so we were willing to give it a try. We got a 1/3 LB of ribs ($12.00) and I have to say that it was some of the meatiest ribs I have ever had in my whole life... After eating all the meat, there would be a tiny bone left....Unlike some other Ribs that mostly are bones and alittle of meat, this BBQ place was really worth to spend money at.... The meat itself was delicious... It had a dry rub and was soaked in tangy BBQ sauce... I really liked everything about the ribs. I doubt I would ever go to Carson to try this place again, but if I ever come across their BBQ stand in the next BBQ festival, I will surely spend a buck or two! read more

Not only is this some of the BEST BBQ I have ever had, but hands down these are the best Beef Burnt Ends I have ever had!!!! The BBQ Beans are awesome, the Potato Salad superb and the Cornbread was perfect! But...The warm BlackBerry Cobbler with whipped cream and a drizzle of caramel is frankly orgasmic!
