Was out for a late lunch hunt today and found this place on Yelp. Located in downtown Torrance, this place seemed to be a favorite of locals. The Torrance Antique Street Faire was being held so street parking was a little tricky but there is public parking located on one of the buildings nearby. The place was pretty packed considering it was close to 2pm. Wait time we were given was 55 minutes but took only about 30, which is great. The staff were friendly and seemed to know the frequent patrons. Or server Laura was nice and gave us recommendations. The menu list was long and so we took her advise - to go with our first choice coz everything is really good you can't go wrong. She was 100% right. We enjoyed everything we ordered. The fine folks at Local Kitchen offer great service in a comfortable and inviting atmosphere, along with plenty of delicious appetizers and entrees. My husband and I went here for a lunch date and to catch the Rams vs. Seahawks game, and we had such a wonderful experience. We prefer the bar area as sometimes we like to stand while watching the game. I was craving a blueberry martini, and our waitress, Melissa, was incredibly sweet--she offered to ask the bartender if they could make one for me, and it turned out perfect. So delicious and exactly what I wanted! My friends and I went to Local Kitchen as it is a great option for groups with kids in the area. I haven't explored Old Town Torrance at all but it's a cute area of the Bay! They sat our group of 14 right by the door and it was a great booth to wrangle all the children in. We ordered beers, ate heartily and our server paid great attention to us the entire time. My partner and I came in for dinner and were initially excited for the evening. It took about 15 minutes for someone to offer us water, which we overlooked because it seemed busy. At one point, I stepped outside briefly to take a phone call since the bar area was very loud. My partner came out shortly after to hand me my purse and also took a quick call. We were gone for no more than two minutes and left our jackets and personal belongings at the table. When my partner returned inside, the server immediately told him he needed to pay the bill and said he "can't dine and dash." We were shocked. We had every intention of returning to finish our evening and spend more. Being publicly accused of attempting to leave without paying -- in front of other guests -- was humiliating and completely unnecessary. We pulled out a $100 bill toward the $26 tab and waited for our change. The bartender later offered to comp our drinks, which we appreciate, but that did not undo how embarrassed we felt. When I spoke with the manager, I was honestly taken aback by his response. Rather than acknowledging how inappropriate and uncomfortable the accusation was, he immediately shifted into a defensive posture. His tone felt excusatory and passive aggressive, as if the situation was somehow our fault. Instead of addressing the core issue -- that my partner was confronted and made to feel as though we were attempting to leave without paying -- he questioned whether we had informed the bartender that I was stepping outside. That response was not only dismissive, it was belittling. Guests should not be expected to formally notify staff every time they briefly step away from their table, especially when their personal belongings, drinks, and an active tab are clearly still there. It's a normal part of dining out. For example, I've never once had to inform a server that I was stepping away to use the restroom -- and I would imagine most people haven't. The implication that we failed in some kind of etiquette or procedure felt like an attempt to deflect responsibility rather than own the mistake. What would have gone a long way was a simple acknowledgment: "I'm sorry, that shouldn't have happened." Instead, the interaction left us feeling blamed, talked down to, and further disrespected. I understand restaurants have to protect themselves from dine-and-dash situations, but there's a way to handle it with discretion and professionalism. Unfortunately, that wasn't our experience. We left feeling disrespected rather than valued as customers, and will never return. read more

The menu is very impressive. A tremendous amount of choices. It certainly explains the crowds here. But, the chef and the staff here are doing everything correct. Portion sizes are generous. It's insane! I got the fish and chips, and to be honest... disappointed. Now, to be fair, when a server trips me they are really big pieces of fish, I'm from the parts of the world where that means it's the size of a rugby football! So, you're never doing that... lol. But, they were healthy sized. It comes with a tartar sauce that definitely needs a bit more lemon and salt. The chips were seasoned fried. Once again, with everything else you do right, this was a lazy choice. I would have been impressed with fresh plank cut potatoes fried fresh with sea salt. But, that's why I won a bunch of awards... No... I'm being mean. Highly critical. Even as it was, the fish and chips were ok. I would recommend a revisions by the chef on this dish, compared to everything else we ordered, that was the stand out disappointment. But, the drinks were incredible. I got the Old Fashioned and... perfection! It was one of the best I've had anywhere in the world. Perfect balance, perfect sweetness, beautiful presentation. Everyone else enjoyed their drinks as well including a cucumber and jalapeño cocktail. And the server. I didn't catch her name and I wish I had. She was perfect. And I do apologize for my friend not tipping you appropriately. I will rectify it on my next visit which will be soon.
