WHAT A FUN EXPERIENCE!! My greatest escape did an absolutely phenomenal job with the escape room. We did the Mission Impossible themed room and had a blast. The room is suitable for up to 6 people. We anticipated going with a group of 4 but plans changed so it was just my boyfriend and I. The people who ran it were great. They truly cared about making it a fun experience. Not only do they do escape rooms, but they have a magic shop and run an arts nonprofit for children. The room was very clever and every detail was done well. Odd location. In Santa Paula but in a very dark commercial complex and tucked away in the middle of the buildings. Upon entering we were greeted by a nice young man who had some jokes. I've never been to an escape room before so didn't have expectations of much. I will tell you I was sort of disappointed that the room had items that were working the way they should have but we were assisted immediately by the son who came in several times to help. Overall I rate this place a 4 out of 5. Not big but overall it was fun. For the price i got it on Groupon it was a great deal. The father and son combo is cool. The dad performed a magic trick and showed us all why we hate magic as it left us bewildered as we couldn't understand how he did the trick. Impressive trick. #3diamonds (16) read more

Well... This goes down as my personal FIRST experience with an "Escape Room" ... However I was more an observer for my daughter's birthday gathering here. The girls have done a few escape rooms. First off... Ill just say it earns FIVE STARS which is mildly rare for me. That comes from comparing it among birthday party experiences and off hand for delivering more than I expected on several levels. This was mildly off the usual path as Santa Paula is quite a drive for us at 40 minutes or 31 miles... But it was worth it. The actual Escape Room was not your typical "get out of the room" deal... But as I understand it there is more than one "Escape Room" option here. IE return a 2nd or 3rd time for different adventures. I thought the girls had a really good experience in thier adventure "escape room" option. It was followed by an impromptu series of quick magic tricks as this establishment is a combination magic shop & improv theater with improv classes as an option. You can even obtain "entry invites" to the famed Magic Castle here... However you will still pay admission at the Magic Castle + likely have a dining requirement. At any rate... I say if you're within an hour of distance driving then GO check it out here. The folks running it were super friendly and we got some great burritos at La Casita near by. With school out for holiday break, and having already been out for a week because of the fires, we figured it was time to see our boys use their brains for something other than YouTube and Fortnite. We found My Greatest Escape through a combo of Yelp and Groupon. About two hours before we were scheduled to arrive we received a call from Jim to make sure we were aware of the new address. When we arrived, Jim greeted us with a smile, and gave us a quick tour of their new location and future plans. This escape room is run by magicians, so it's appropriate that their room is based on Houdini. Many of the clues tie-in to Houdini's life and career. Our orientation and debrief involved some education on Houdini's life and death. You can definitely tell that Jim is enthusiastic about all he does. We got out in the nick of time - 2 minutes to spare. The theme is family-friendly (our boys are 18 and 15) and was a good size for the four of us. I'd say you could probably do six people comfortably. Jim mentioned that they had had 10 ladies in the room the day before... which seemed like a really big number for the size. My husband and I did the Houdini escape room yesterday and had a lot of fun. There are A LOT of puzzles to solve so this room would be best suited for a group of 4. Even with our small team, we were able to get through a lot of it because of the awesome owner. The owner was probably the best part of the experience since he was passionate about his craft. When you first walk into the building it is like you are walking into a magic shop. There are lots of stuff on sale for magicians and theater people. The owner even did a magic trick for us at the end. Keep in mind this is a lower budget escape room, but it is still well crafted and immersive. I took a private group of eight for my birthday celebration. I love puzzles and figuring out plots, and so do all of the friends that I invited. The games were very clever, and the rooms were set up with much thought and creativity. My Trekkie friend loved the "Star Trek" type control board that lit up in the first room, and the second had countless beautiful antiques into which someone had put a lot of thought. The proprietor was super nice and accommodating to us; he even waited a few minutes for my last guest who was struggling with a baby. He did not charge her extra for the nursing baby, but made sure she had a chair to be comfortable; what a gentleman. Our host was friendly, smiling, honoring to me as the birthday celebrant, and gave us friendly clues when we were stuck without making us feel foolish. When we were finished, he did a few magic tricks for us before we left. My friends had a great time and are still talking about what fun we had working together. read more

This was such a challenging and fun experience. We did the Mission Impossible room and it was hard. But with help from the curator, we were back on track. We didn't complete it on our own but we were shown all the steps and clues so it was super neat to see all the hidden secrets. Definitely recommend! So fun! read more

I've heard about these escape rooms when searching for date ideas before and my wife and her uncle thought It would be a good idea to take his girlfriend for her Bday. We had a group of 8 and it was awesome!! We had a blast! James was hospitable and funny too. The room is challenging so bring your thinking caps. I bought tickets off Groupon for a birthday present for my husband and friends. I checked the availability and they didn't have anything for the day I was looking at. I called and they made a special exception for us! They stayed open longer and really made us feel special! They were GREAT entertainers, they knew it was a surprise for my husband and messed with him a little which was a lot of fun for all of us. The escape room itself was awesome, something for everyone! We were unable to solve it, it was really well set up. We all had a blast and at the end they did a rad magic show with cards AND we got to try a virtual reality game! Six of us went for my girlfriend's birthday. We had a great time! It was a challenge even for 6 of us to try to solve. We even had a 7 year old with us and he had a good time, and was able to solve a couple of the puzzles himself. But even for the five of us adults it was a real challenge. We live in Orange County and found this escape room on Groupon. I have always wanted to do an escape room and this was a great first experience. There were seven of us and we escaped with 39 seconds left. The staff was incredibly friendly. They entertained us with card tricks before we started while we waited for one person to arrive who was stuck in traffic. The Houdini theme was awesome and the puzzles fit the theme perfectly. They were just the right difficulty. It was big enough for us to split up into a couple of different groups and solve multiple puzzles at one time. They are getting ready to introduce a new room. The seven us are already planning to make the drive to check out the new room. We were there to celebrate my birthday. When I made the reservation online, they asked if we were celebrating anything. I mentioned my birthday, so they put a happy birthday banner on the window and a card with a discount for the VR room. Thank you for making my birthday celebration so fun. This place was awesome for the first family experience doing an escape room. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. They are also extremely helpful when you need to solve a puzzle, so you will not get stuck and can continue to have fun trying to figure the puzzles out. I was soooo excited about this escape room but unfortunately it was a total let down! My husband loves Hudini and anything magic related so I thought this would be the perfect birthday gift for him. We've done escape rooms before and this one was just disappointing. My main issue was working with strangers!!!! The group we worked with were overbearing and honestly didn't let my husband and I do much. I almost walked out and asked for my money back. If you decide to do this escape room, please take working with strangers into consideration. I wish my review could be more about the puzzles, riddles, and such but I pretty much wasted my money watching other people do the work that I wanted to do and was more than capable of doing. read more

This place rocks! It beats the other escape rooms we have gone to. The place is owned and operated by magicians. We arrived early and were treated to about 20 mins of close up magic. The magician was fantastic and really played to the teens in our group. The card trick were mind blowing! The guys are true ambassadors of magic. After the magic show we began our escape room which was magic themed and really interesting. It was well done to be sure! We highly recommend this place. They really want their customers to have a great time. Just well done and a great experience. Then after the escape room was done, they performed another 20 mins of magic for us.
