My focus with this review is what I remember most about this place. It is not the food, though that was very good. The brisket and the salad bar, an increasing rarity, were both great. It was not the value, though with the daily special of one meat with a salad bar and the kids eat free add-on deal, the value was outstanding at a little more than $20 for three of us (all in). It was not the facility, though that was quite comfortable and clean. It was not the location, though that was easy to find and very navigable with easy parking. The thing that stood out were the people. Specifically, the person who took my order was probably the nicest person I've ever met as a worker in a restaurant that I've visited. Our grandson had fallen asleep in the car and my wife stayed put with him to let him sleep. She was not particularly hungry anyway and just asked me to bring her something small. The special with salad bar, brisket and drink did the job nicely as I could eat the salad and save the brisket for my wife (perhaps sneaking one strip of it for myself). But the person waiting on us offered to let me have the kids meal free even though my grandson was not inside with me. It turned out he woke up and they came in a few minutes later and she offered my wife and our grandson both free drinks while they were there. She offered my wife a trip to the salad bar on the house as well for being a good sport to stay with our grandson while he slept. When I thanked her for all of this, she mentioned that she tried to be kind to everyone. She said that it cost her nothing to do so. I told her that was true but at the same time, it was priceless. Her general demeanor with a constant smile on her face is what I will remember about this place. She clearly belongs in a people-facing job. People still make the ultimate difference and AI can never replace that no matter how sophisticated it gets. read more

My husband and I had an amazing experience at My Island Smokehouse in Cocoa Beach! The baby back St. Louis ribs and brisket were unbelievably tender and moist -- some of the best BBQ we've had. Quick BUT expensive weeknight dinner for our family of 3. I think overall, we'd give it a 4/5 stars. We got the family dinner. $98 w/o all the bells and whistles. 124$ including tax and tip with a 3% sur charge for using a credit card. The meats we chose were, double servings of brisket, turkey, sausage links, and st. louis style ribs. Sides we probably better then the proteins to be quiet honest. Sides we got: mac n' cheese, baked potatoes, toast, cornbread casserole, and crinkle fries. All the sides were a hit. The fries were my absolute favorite. They came out hot, fresh, and crispy. My mister's favorite was the cornbread casserole, and our boy, his favorite was the mac n' cheese. Everyone had something they liked and enjoyed. Lets talk meats! I didn't try any of the St. Louis style ribs so I can't comment on that. Our boy said he liked it. It wasn't dry or anything. Our fam favorite was definitely the brisket. Some of the pieces were a little too fatty, but we ate around some of it. But that was our favorite. Surprisingly, the turkey was also pretty good too. It definitely wasn't dry. That's the surprising part. The sausage link was our least favorite. A little dry and bland. The sausage was not good, will not order that again. They give you a tray that has different spots for the sauces so you know which sauce is which. They have a small sauce bar you might call it, and has all their different sauces. Our favorites were half kick and full kick. You get your own sauces. They have a salad bar. Didn't try that, but it looked fresh. They have fountain drinks as Coke products. I only got water and it tasted weird. Lol. It's fine. Water is water at this point. The moment we walked in, we were greeted. Because it was our first time there, the hostess did explain to us what we would do. We had a seat at the table before going up to order. When we went up to order the lady there was super nice and accommodating and answered our questions and she was super helpful. The staff is really friendly there. I was hoping they'd have bbq leg quarters for some reason. They have pulled chicken. We didnt try it, maybe next time. We will pop in again, not anytime soon. Dropped in today for breakfast as this was the weekend where they started serving breakfast - so off we went... I have had breakfast at the Merritt Island location, twice, to my sheer delight, and today, at their much closer location to us, it was just as good if not better. What makes this place so special is the service - it is so warmly friendly, so sincere, and so helpful, and so accommodating - how could you not want to come back. Anyway, we enjoyed our meals - my breakfast mates enjoyed their breakfast of eggs, waffles, pancakes, home fries, and it was all hot, fresh, and delicious. Now, I had their "Healthy Banana Split" a breakfast of bananas, granola, yogurt, a nice drizzle of raspberries and some strawberries to pull it all together - the perfect light breakfast choice. Great place to eat. It is counter service so you come in and order at the counter and pick your seat. The staff is very helpful and friendly. They constantly come around to the tables to refill drinks and check to see if anyone needs anything. The breakfast was delicious. I ordered an omelet with smoked sausage and my wife had an egg and bacon breakfast with french toast. Everything was cooked well. We have also had their barbecue and it was tasty as well. They have a variety of sauces that you can try. They also have a salad bar you can add to your meal. Highly recommend visiting if you're in the area. Every bit of that review has been corrected in this six months. They've much improved on their recipes, they've added mac & cheese, and the drive-in is opening soon. Most certainly couldn't help carry a lack luster brisket. The smash burger was good, but a little bit dry. The fries were crisp and good. Tried the new BBQ spot on the Space Coast. I'll preface this review as I'm fairly well traveled for BBQ, living in NC, SC, and Texas for stretches of time. What's awesome here: Pulled pork and turkey is on spot. Proper amount of flavor without drying the meat. Cornbread casserole is mind blowing. Other sides were solid, the setup is a walk up counter with quick service. Another person in our party got the pork sandwich and side and that was an huge amount of food! Tons of sauce options to choose from, the half kick was on point for me. This is probably a solid place for lunch specials. This looks like a fairly new spot, I had some brisket and I'd call it a work in progress. Good, but not yet on the level of some of the Texas brisket I've enjoyed. They should also get some thicker butcher paper to serve on, it started to come off on the meat. The interior is also more breakfast-diner layout with booths when you'd expect an open wood table and chair or picnic table setup. So glad we came here after a long day at Kennedy Space Center! We ordered the family meal and smash burgers for the kids. Kids devoured their burgers and said they loved the fries. We got the brisket, sliced pork (super juicy), chicken quarters and ribs, all the meats were delicious, especially the brisket. For sides we got cornbread casserole, cole slaw, mac and cheese and bbq beans. Again, everything was tasty but I especially loved the cornbread casserole and bbq beans. I will be dreaming of the cornbread casserole when we get back to CA. The only thing I thought was a little lacking was our garlic toast. We like butter and more garlic flavor. Maybe they forgot to add seasoning on ours but everything else was really good, even all their bbq sauces. I love that there are so many to choose from and they have mats for you to organize the flavors and it gives you an example of all the bbq sauce profiles. So cool. To top it off, the two ladies at the counter were SO nice and attentive. Excellent service. We would definitely come back again. Highly recommend!
