Jason was awesome with our two kids, both with very different levels of enthusiasm and nervousness when it came to biking. In both cases I had taken them out several times and tried to teach them to ride without success. Jason not only has a great rapport with the kids, but he has a great approach where he does a step by step buildup of skills (e.g. starting without pedals), instead of just running along with them and hoping that it 'clicks.' Both kids made tremendous progress in their individual 90 minute lessons with Jason. One took to it more naturally, and was confidently pedal biking after the first 45 minutes of Jason's instruction. The other was not pedal biking at the end of the session, but was much more comfortable coasting on the pedal-less bike while holding his feet in the air, and his nervousness was gone, which I hadn't been able to achieve with him on my own. Jason coached me through the next steps and I feel like I have a solid game plan for the next time my son and I go out to practice biking, and most importantly my son is excited about it, which he never was before. Jason is very sensitive around COVID issues, always sanitizing any of the kids equipment (e.g. handlebars) before and after he had to touch it to demonstrate something or make an adjustment. Scheduling is easy and online, and he was great about last minute scheduling changes. Highly recommended.

Jason was nothing short of amazing! We had been trying to teach my 5 year old to ride a bike for months without success. My son was getting frustrated and discouraged, which is not what we wanted him to associate with riding a bike. Jason has a method that made him feel comfortable balancing, scooting and eventually working up to pedaling. I wouldn't have believed it if someone told me, but no exaggeration he taught my son to ride a bike in less than 2 hours! I couldn't recommend him any higher. Thank you Jason!

Jason taught my 6 & 9 year old daughters how to ride bicycle in about 30 minutes. I've been trying for years.

I began with the 8 class monthly membership pack, just enough to make it to Olivia's 5:30 AM classes twice a week (commuting all the way from SF to do so lol). As I moved back to the East Bay, I bumped it up to the unlimited membership package, and it was the best decision. First off, each and every instructor at CB truly pour their hearts and efforts in every class. The playlists are perfect for the high intensity moves, the stat board/races create a friendly competitive environment (for those who wish to participate), and their uplifting demeanor/hilarious commentary really sets them apart from other cycling studios I've tried prior to this one. Amrita has really taken her time on selecting and bringing in nothing but the best for this studio. Second, the CB community here is sosososo genuine and I am incredibly appreciative to have a group of people in my life who uplift one another in our fitness journeys. Between the front desk CB staff, to the other members of this studio, everyone really makes you feel welcome. Post-class coffee meetups are shared, milestones are always celebrated, they even took the time to set up a surprise mini baby shower for my sister, Jessica... like where can you find a group of people like that!! And that is just to name a few of the things that I've experienced in a short amount of time here. Third, more of a personal observation, is the positive exponential effect Cyclebar Castro Valley has taken on my overall well-being. I've noticed so many lifestyle changes on my day to day mental and physical health, and I couldn't be more excited to keep this momentum going. I am long overdue for writing a review expressing my gratitude for CB, but I am extremely thankful for having Cyclebar Castro Valley nearby that checkmarks all the boxes I look for in a group fitness studio (high intensity, passionate instructors, strong community, cleanliness, a wide range of class times, staff responsiveness, etc.). If you're reading this, indecisive on whether to try out a class, this is your sign to do so! You will not be disappointed.

I would call to ask for an extension and be told "oh the manager can only do that, she'll call you back." First, that was never an issue in the past, anyone could have given me an extension if I asked. And then of course I haven't heard back from the manager at all. I appreciated the flexibility before and the classes are super fun. It's a huge bummer that flexibility is now gone. There's a lot of other nit picky things about the cyclebar policies that are obvious cash grabs (fees for no-show, fees for cancelations within 24 hrs, and now letting our classes expire). Some of that can be understandable, others are frustrating because what happens if I don't hear back from the manager? Just going to have to be out of some extra money because of an apparent lack of flexibility. But I guess my only solution is to not come back unfortunately. Edit: I had called multiple times and didn't hear back until after making this review

I think I was very bummed with this location for a couple of reasons: 1. You have no idea where you are in terms of half way through the class or anywhere near that. At the Alamo location, they have a projector up on a wall telling you the flow of the class maneuver by maneuver. 2. PARKING SUCKS!!!!!! You literally have to pay for parking here and although that may be normal for Oakland natives, it's not coming from more inland East Bay. I actually didn't come with a card or cash so I had no way to pay which led me to going into a liquor store and getting some coins. The machine then ate my coins! Luckily, I asked someone if I could Venmo them the $1.50 but she was so kind and ended up just paying for me. Although she was a lifesaver, I do feel like that should be posted somewhere in the app to let people know. 3. The front desk person was not at all helpful and I felt like I was bothering her when I asked her what I could do about the parking situation. All and all I don't see myself coming back to this location due to the parking situation and the lack of welcoming presence from the front desk.

The combination of Pilates, weights/strength training and low impact cardio have been great for my body and health. So bodyrok has been a great addition to my world. A few pieces of feedback... Some of the reformers are missing certain weights and attachments. Definitely an opportunity to get these fixed so everyone has the same experience. There is no phone number to call online (that is actually working) if you need help with a reschedule or scheduling error. It's pretty annoying but they are fairly response via email. Wish there was a quicker way of getting in touch with someone. Lastly, I wish there was a better balance of the flow of the workout and education on good form of the moves. 1. So that you are getting the benefit of the move and 2. So you don't potentially hurt yourself especially if you are brand new or in beginner stages. In my experience it's not consistent across all instructors which I hope changes as a bodyrok policy. But all around, love coming to the workout, the environment and will definitely keep coming back.

I usually try to let the instructor know beforehand that I'm still getting familiar with the movements, and they usually suggest that I set myself up at the front of the room and/or next to someone who is more experienced. Most instructors tend to check in on me a bit more throughout the class, which is always appreciated. I try to go to daytime classes during the week if I'm available - those classes are a bit quieter and don't get too busy. That being said, even if you went at a "busy" time on a weekday evening or during the weekend, you shouldn't run into issues if you signed up in advance since it's one reformer per person anyway - it just means you might have fewer spot options if you don't arrive early enough. I like the variety of focuses/classes that BODYROK offers, so even though I don't plan to become a regular, I definitely see myself continuing to drop in from time to time in the future.
