We've been loyal customers of this store for years and have generally been satisfied with both the service and the quality of the glasses. Recently, I ordered a pair with Varilux Physio lenses--which are excellent--but was surprised to receive an additional invoice after the fact due to a pricing discrepancy. Apparently, the store didn't have accurate coverage information from VSP at the time of purchase. Pricing transparency is crucial, especially when it influences the decision to buy. This kind of oversight shouldn't happen. Updated to 5 star - My Eye Dr took time to investigated this. I was told the invoice was a mistake due to insurance submission issues. This place sucks. I went for an update on my Rx and purchased frames from another place. After a few days with the new Rx it did not seem right so I went back and they told me the original Rx was a mistake and off a little. So they gave me the correct one BUT I have to pay to get the correct lens out in!!! This is this optometrists mistake. I did not leave with the original and she says your vision will be worse with this new Rx. Be careful here they do not know what they are doing and only care about the profit. read more

This location is ok. Parking is readily available, the store is clean, but customer service can be a little hit or miss. No one has ever been overtly rude towards me, but the front desk tends to lack clear communication, and the manager (?) does not speak with much tact or discretion. However, the optometrists are professional and courteous. On my last visit, I explicitly told the young man at the front desk that I was there to get some new glasses. He asked me if I wear contacts, in which I replied "yes, but I'm only here for glasses". He said ok, and proceeded to schedule me for a contact AND glasses exam. I thought that was odd since I knew I had a contact exam one year prior (most contact Rx are good for 2 years unless you have an issue). I found out that the young man was completely wrong in scheduling me for that, after the optometrist told me that I did not need a contact exam on that visit (of course, after the exam was completed). So now, I had to pay for a new contact exam I did not need or ask for. The manager (?) reacted apathetically to my complaint. I then ordered 2 pairs of glasses, but returned one of them on the day of pickup, and decided to order another pair. A few days later, I went to pick up my new 2nd pair, but there was some confusion about whether the original 2nd pair was returned. The same apathetic manager now decided to loudly question the store associate and me, from across the store about the original pair of glasses. It was demeaning. On another occasion, I called in to order a new box of contacts, but was put on hold several times after being told that my contact prescription was expired. However, I distinctly remembered that the contact exam (the one I mentioned at the beginning of my review) was still good. I had to stick to my guns about them reviewing my chart to find the correct date on the exam, or else they would've once again misled me into paying for another contact examination. **sigh** Im not too excited about this location, but Im hoping that they'll come around. If you decide to go, make sure you review all your information and details because they'll have you unnecessarily paying for all sorts stuff. BTW, they are also a little over the top, but inconsistent with their COVID social distancing policy. read more

On a second visit the person we worked with at the front part of the store (it was not the same person who helped us the first time) did not explain the costs but simply tacked them on and presented the bill. The frames were completely covered by insurance but other fees were simply added without any explanation. Adore Dr. Chu and have been coming here for years. However, I don't appreciate the over the top covid protocol. After being shouted at to put the 'dirty' pen in a separate bin from the 'clean' pens (this doesn't matter, even news outlets have mentioned this antiquated practice of the impossibility of catching a virus from a pen). For this to actually be effective, tell your staff to use and wear gloves and change often. As the check in person had no problems handling my id, insurance card and payment card from my wallet bare handed and then peck on key board and touch everything around him. Using the clean now put dirty pen here was just theatre? Not a public safety measure. The clipboard I used was not put into a dirty clipboard bin! I touched that too. No one followed me around, wiping off frames, as I tried on glasses Those weren't put in a dirty bin. Just the pen. Goofy!!! The mask I was wearing (and use all the time and everywhere, including other medical appts) was not good enough and I was scolded into wearing one of theirs. The 'rule' is a mask. Any facial covering, right? If a super-specific one is suddenly required. Post that on your door. Don't chide and embarrass your clients with such silly nonsense. This is just an eye exam after all, not open heart surgery! Meanwhile, I'll assume the uncovered face rests for the diagnostic machines really were cleaned after each use... you know, might catch something! Where are those paper strips that use to go here for the chin rest? What happened to social distancing? This place was packed with people. All trying on glasses and removing their masks to do so, freely talking. No staff asked them to not do this. The My Eye Doctor covid-protocol made my experience with Dr Chu less than amazing. She still is, but enough of the 'let's pick and chose what we like' regarding covid rules. They don't make sense. read more

Tried calling twice and could not get through to a person due to unavailability. Finally got through to a person 6/24 and was told glasses delayed. Very poor customer service. Once I figured out to go someplace better (sadly this took me far too long), I received much better treatment. Should be the end of the story, right? My eye Dr. has started harrassing me by calling me every month telling me that I need an eye check up. Not at your store - ever.   I am happy my phone has an option to block a caller. One of the smoothest optometrist visits I've had in my life and I've been wearing glasses since I was six years old. From the moment I walked in, everything went smoothly. My insurance info was collected within 3 minutes. About 2 min later, I was asked by the technician (not sure what her title/position is) to go to the back for different eye tests (autorefractor, eye pressure, retinal scan). In the meantime, the prescription of the glasses I already had with me was measured by a third employee. I told him that one pair of glasses feels a lot more comfortable than the other. He made a note of it. I was moved to the waiting room. About 4 minutes later, I was told to go see Dr. Chu. Dr. Chu was fantastic. She was communicative, thorough and addressed my questions in detail. I am scientifically trained and I need to understand what is happening with my health. She was fantastic. I only needed a prescription. I have no experience with ordering glasses or lenses. I am definitely coming back and definitely recommend Dr. Chu to others. read more

I saw some reviews for the location in Germantown and decided to pass on going to that particular one. The location in Potomac had some very high reviews, so I decided to conduct business with this location instead. What I first noticed about this location was how they have a very high level of customer service. I called this location during the week and asked for some information regarding my insurance coverage. Alexandra, who took my phone call, spoke very pleasant and assisted me during this ordeal. I was unsure if my insurance coverage was the same because my employer had just recently made changes to the coverage. She asked for my insurance number and said she would call them on my behalf to see if I still had an account with the insurance provider. Most people would have wiped their hands clean from doing all of that, but she insisted that she would help me anyway. I really like how she went above and beyond to ensure I received the service I was looking for. She calls back a few minutes later and says she couldn't find any information in regards to my insurance coverage, however if I got any more information on my end about the insurance coverage, to give them a call back and they would get me squared away. Well, I got that insurance information and called them back immediately to set up an appointment. Later that week, I came in for my scheduled eye exam and the entire visit went flawless. The optometrist took her time with my eye exam and didn't rush me through the whole procedure. This location is very organized, the people are extremely polite, and they made me feel very comfortable during my visit. I encourage everyone to take their business to this location. read more

Never thought I'd feel compelled to write a review of an optometrist, but this place is great. Exam, frame selection, prices are all good (especially since we have VSP), but the customer service really sets them apart. Never had to wait for anything, friendly, helpful staff, and even the general manager will go out of their way to fulfill your non-standard requests like quick turnaround because your kid decides he needs new glasses 3 days before heading off to college, or shipping replacement glasses directly to your knucklehead kid's college dorm after he somehow manages to break said new glasses within a month, etc. Not that anything like that happened to me, but just, you know, hypothetically speaking... Even though this location of MyEyeDr is right in my neighborhood, it took a Living Social coupon to get me into it. I wasn't disappointed. I have to admit that I didn't expect much from a chain store. All too often, you get disinterested and unknowledgeable staffers. However, here, everyone from Amber behind the desk to Dr. Chu, the "substitute" optometrist, to Kim the GM, was extremely pleasant, friendly and really helpful. I took advantage of a recent LivingSocial coupon for a contact lens eye exam and three months of contacts lenses for $69 - an amazing deal. What's awesome is I'm not usually eligible for these sorts of deals because I have an astigmatism and need toric lenses. However in this case I was able to simply pay the difference for my preferred contact lenses. My Eye Dr even had a dedicated support email for the LivingSocial coupon, which allowed me to verify all this before I even bought it. When my daughter was eight, she needed to get glasses. It was a crazy day, and we just managed to slip into My Eye Dr. at Cabin John Mall ten minutes before closing. Andrew was very patient in letting my daughter try on several frames and generously stayed late to make sure her prescription and all of our insurance information was entered correctly. He never rushed us, even though by the time we left it was a forty minutes after closing. We have been going to Andrew's store ever since to get our glasses and contact lenses. It has been eight years, and we have always been happy. Andrew's staff is also terrific, including Mona and Jason. Whenever we have minor problems like needing glasses tightened or nose pads fixed, someone always courteously and competently takes care of the issue. We have never had any problems with glasses breaking or incorrect or late contact lens orders, like I had experienced at other optometry stores. My Eye Dr. at Cabin John Mall is a winner. read more

I have not written a review on Yelp before, but felt I needed to after my exceptional experience yesterday with Dr. Amy Chu. I am a physician and consider myself to be fairly critical when being seen by another clinician. Dr. Chu listened to my concerns and questions, took a thorough history, asked pertinent questions, examined me, then took the time to explore options with me for contact lenses and glasses. She never made me feel rushed and made certain that I could see as well as possible before I left her office, trying various combinations of lenses until it felt right. And to make it even better--she is personable and has a sense of humor. I had to wait about 30 minutes past my appointment time to see her, but it was well worth it and now I know that I just have to bring a book or work with me next time because an optometrist like Dr. Chu is worth waiting for. read more

Took my son in for glasses four weeks ago. He lives out of state and the very nice gentleman who helped us offered to have his glasses shipped directly from the lab to him, saying that they should arrive the following week. Fast-forward 3 weeks, no glasses. I called and was told that they would call the lab to follow up and then call me. No call back. The next day, I called and asked for the same lady, who said, "oh, we'll have to call them." No apology. Then I got a call back saying that the store found the glasses and shipped them. Again, no apology that they had been sitting in the local store. I asked if they could be overnighted and was told that they had already been sent and would arrive in 2 days. Asked for the tracking info and when I checked, found that they are supposed to arrive in 5 days. So if you don't mind waiting a month for glasses, use them. This is actually the second time I've waited a month with this location, but it will be the last. read more

My family has been coming here for almost 3 years, and have had nothing but consistently great service. I hesitated at first to get glasses from a chain store, but this location offers the pricing and selection of the big guys while taking care of the customer like a small town doctor's office. I'm impressed at how seriously they take vision and eye care, showing real thoroughness and follow-up with my 8 yr old (just as thorough as his pediatric opthamologist at Children's Hospital). Because of my son, we've been able to test every aspect of their customer service (many, many times) from repairs to quick turnaround on replacement glasses, and they always get it 100% right, faster than I thought possible. read more

I love Dr. Chu and the staff at the Potomac location. They are super friendly and helpful. I got LASIK two years ago from their partner (TLC) and so now I only need to stop into MyEyeDr once a year for a checkup so I remain eligible for free LASIK touch-ups. Excellent, super helpful service! I returned to MyEyeDr last month for new glasses after getting a terrible interim pair from Eyeland. MyEyeDr still had all my information on file from my previous glasses almost five years ago, they were professional, friendly, ran glaucoma and cataract tests as well as my eye exam, and sold me new glasses for $400 less than what Eyeland charged me. Better still, it was Wednesday and I asked if I could pick up the new glasses the following Monday for my trip to California, and they got this done for me with no extra charge! And, my new glasses fit and perform perfectly. I give my highest raves to Dr. Chu and her team, I am their customer for life! read more

The team at the Cabin John location have been amazingly helpful! I had an eye injury and ended up there multiple times in a matter of days and then over a few weeks. At the time they were great and I was very happy to have had them help me out. Over a year later I came in for a regular eye exam. I never would've imagined they would have remembered me. The doctor, sure, but the other team members? I was shocked when they all remembered all of the details of my crazy eye injury! This time it wasn't an injury that kept me there but after my regular exam I was having trouble sorting out my eye insurance options and was worried I wouldn't be able to get the lens I needed. They walked me patiently through my options until we sorted it out. It took a while but I am so grateful for their help in figuring out the insurance because I was able to get the new glasses I needed. read more

never ever bought my eye dr livingsoical coupon again. it's waste time and money. I spend $35 actual money for $255 coupon value. when i first in the store. I told them I need a sunglass with my prescription. the guys told me I have to pay around $380 after all discount. Then I think If $380 - $255(coupon value), i still have to pay $125 actual moeny. I told him I have livingsoical coupon. Then he gave me another price. He said after $225 coupon, I still have to pay $270. Which is before livingsoical coupon, price is $270+ $255=$525, compare to the first time price he quote me (without coupon price) $380. They increase $145 to cover the coupon price. This is not honest way to selling coupon and doing business. Be aware!! read more

I had an eye issue and googled eye care because my regular doctor was too busy for an immediate appointment. I had a great exprence there, Any Chu was very good, diagnosed the issue, told me how to care for it going forward, took her time, was very patient. I plan to do a full eye examine there as well.
