WARNING: Predatory billing, broken promises, and total corporate stonewalling--AVOID! My wife visited the MyEyeDr on Hunter Road in San Marcos for a simple eye exam on November 22, 2025. We had no intention of getting glasses. Staff approached us unprompted and insisted we could get a free pair entirely covered by our Texas Star Medicaid. We chose specific frames based entirely on that promise. We left that day with an invoice showing a balance of zero dollars. However, three months later, out of the blue we received a $99 bill. Photos attached in case you don't believe us. What followed was worse than the bill itself. We contacted their office numerous times, over a week of unreturned, promised callbacks. Finally reached the "office manager" today on March 19, 2026, only to be told by him--who identified himself only as "Julio" and refused to provide his last name--that there was "absolutely nothing they can do," that we should contact an insurance company we can no longer reach, and--most remarkably--that we were "fired as patients" for having the nerve to dispute a charge resulting entirely from their staff's misrepresentation. We then called corporate billing. Same answer--go back to the local office that just fired you, or call the insurance company you can't reach. A perfect corporate runaround with nowhere to turn. We have the original invoice proving we were told we owed nothing. We came in for an exam. They recruited us into glasses with a promise of zero cost and put it in writing. Then billed us anyway. Then stonewalled us at every level. We are filing formal complaints with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and the Texas Department of Insurance. This business does not care about your time. They don't respect your time. Scheduling an appointment is useless as they don't care about your appointment time. Got my daughter checked in before her appointment which was at 3:30. I'd say around 3:15. Waited well over 45 minutes just to be seen. I did ask the front desk attendant if there was a long wait, she assured me there wasn't going to be because all the doctors were there today and they were moving patients pretty quickly. So we waited and they did the eye health tests within about 5-8 minutes. Took us to a room to wait for another 15 minutes to see the doctor. Doctor came in, didn't even apologize for having us wait so long & proceeded to do her exam. She finished her exam in about 9 minutes. We will be seeking another practice that does value your time and respects your scheduled appointment. I will not recommend this business to anyone. Please don't waste your valuable time here. read more

I came to pick my daughters glasses and set up an appt for my mother we are waiting for her to be seen and as we are waiting Dr STEPHEN STANFIELD comes out and tells me I have to leave because my 3yr old son is doing to much yelling my son has autism no matter how hard I try to keep him quiet it's impossible so now here we are waiting in this 100 degree weather outside just because this supposed Dr can't understand my son. Disappointed with MyEyeDr - Poor Customer Service Experience I called yesterday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised to get an appointment for 8:30 AM this morning. I arrived at 8:31 AM (only a minute late after being stuck behind an H-E-B delivery truck). The two women at the front greeted me; one mentioned she just needed to print my paperwork before I could fill it out, so I sat and waited patiently. A few minutes later, the receptionist called me back and said I had actually been scheduled for 8:20 AM, and because I "arrived at 8:33," I was outside their 10-minute grace period -- meaning my appointment had to be canceled. I explained that I was there at 8:31, within a minute of my scheduled time, and that the office wasn't even ready for me when I arrived. She went to check with a manager, who then came out and told me they couldn't see me and I'd need to reschedule. At that point, I placed the clipboard on the counter, thanked them, and said I'd take my business elsewhere. I immediately called TSO, and they were happy to get me in at 10 AM with no issue at all. In hindsight, I should have trusted my client who told me just yesterday how impersonal and rushed her experience at MyEyeDr felt. Unfortunately, my visit confirmed the same. I've been coming here a number of years along with my child as well. Dr. Stanfield always provides great service and is very informative and encourages questions. I got an eye exam for tinted prescription driving glasses from Dr. Chen on Hopkins Road. She was great. However, her office staff kept getting the order wrong: wrong frames, wrong prescription, no tint. I went back several times. The final time I went, the staff said that they had already given me the glasses. So they charged my insurance company and I am unable to get another pair paid for by the insurance for this time period. read more

Terrible! I changed to this location because the DS location had been misdiagnosing my vision for a couple years. So I tried the SM office. Another really bad experience. Saw Dr. Stanfield, who was very nice, seemed to diagnose my issues quickly, prescribed contacts but they had NO trials for me to take and I had to come back in a week to get them-I had never experienced that before. So I leave, still unable to see because my old glasses were not working well either. Fast forward a week, pick up contacts--right eye had full two weeks, left eye had 5 days! Called and said they weren't all in there and I needed the rest of the package (they clearly took them out of my order)-this took another week! So I never got to try the trials for the left eye for a full 14 days in a row. I assumed this new doc was good and got it right so, desperate to be able to see, I went ahead and ordered the new prescription, $300 worth of contacts and no surprise, I cannot read with the left contact (it's monovision), I mean I cannot read with it. This place is a fake. They do not care one bit about your vision. Back up to before I ordered the $300 worth of contacts, I called to ask if I could come pick up another week of the left eye trial because I wasn't sure about it and wanted to make sure before ordering (I had already used the 5 days, one week off with not contacts then got the order of the rest that were missing and used those). Giving free trials was a courtesy at the My Eye Dr office I had been going to in DS. The young man I spoke with was very rude and said they did not do that and I would have to pay for the trial week and wait another week to get them as they were not stocked (which the other office was always stocked).. All this to say, I will never use this franchise anywhere ever again. These chain type dr offices are the destruction of the old true dr offices of the past. What are we suppose to do? I will keep looking, I have to, i am handicapped with very poor vision. Best of luck to you and I hope you at least don't go to this office in San Marcos. I scheduled my son a contact eye exam and my husband took him for his appt. Even though it was a contact exam for a new pt which required a fitting with the appt they rescheduled his appt for the fitting after doing a contact and glasses exam. They also forcefully pushed all the add ons for his glasses so we ended up spending way more than intended. Fast forward to his second appt for contact fittings the appt card said 2:20 however the text reminder they sent said 2:40 to which I confirmed. So when we arrived at 2:33 we were told his appt was at 2:20 and they wouldn't see us bc their grace period was only 10 minutes and that I should have gone by the appt time and not the text confirmation. Highly unorganized and unprofessional. We will not be returning. read more

Everyone here was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Dr Stephen Stanfield was very good and explained everything he was doing and what he saw. Kimberly Scott helped me with my selection of eye wear and was a joy to talk with. Answered all my questions on insurance totals and explained in detail all products for my eye wear. they gave me the wrong prescription. I can barely see out of my glasses and they give a headache. My doctor said my old prescription was to strong but that was the actual correct prescription because I can't read anything from a distance. I hate that I wasted my insurance on this place. read more

I unfortunately have to say I do not recommend this place. I had an unpleasant experience. I would normally go to different providers, but this provider was able to take me in. Upon my visit, I was already uncomfortable with the new environment. Experience felt worse when finally interacting with the DR. About 6 drops were added into my eye to dilate and I physically couldn't open my eyes and the DR wanted to add more drops on top of that and forced my eye open. (This was my first time having them dilated) They never warned me of the side effects -- I couldn't drive back home! I let the DR know I was diabetic and didn't discuss further with my lifestyle and she went on a long spiel about how I need to eat better and lose weight. (Keep in mind I never told this lady my lifestyle and in fact I have lost weight in case she cared) this made me furious and upset. Im paying for my eye exam, not a physical. Because of the discomfort of my eyes along with the conversation I had with the doctor, of course I cried because I wasn't expecting my experience to be like this for something simple. I stated with the DR that for right now I just wanted my Rx and wasn't interested in ordering any frames and contacts at this time. She dismissed me to get checked out. Lady in short pinkish hair greeted me and was able to let me pay the invoice. I recalled stating that I just wanted my Rx card and that I would also get frames somewhere else. The frames weren't in my price range and had other places in mind to check out. I was already uncomfortable and upset that I wanted to pay immediately and leave. The lady felt pushy about me getting frames from them (I understand they need sales but I think it was obvious that I looked upset) she only gave me my invoice and not my Rx and I had to go back and asked for it even tho I mentioned it to her at the very beginning. Many times, my insurance has been processed incorrectly. I've been told AFTER a purchase that I OWE money because "my insurance didn't cover it after all". I have been given the WRONG prescription TWO YEARS in a row by TWO DIFFERENT doctors. I've had trouble receiving my corrected prescription. Absolutely terrible. There were errors with my prescription. The sample contacts they gave me were stronger than the prescription they provided me. However, I could see better than I ever have before when I was wearing the sample contacts. I did not even know it was humanely possible to see that well. When I called back to schedule a follow-up exam to have my prescription changed to the strength of sample contacts they provided me with, the receptionist told me it's only a .25 difference so you shouldn't be seeing much better in those than you would be in the prescription you gave me. I was speechless at the fact that an individual working in the eye care business would have the audacity to discredit a patient's report of what they are seeing/experiencing visually. This person at the front desk also provide no help when I was trying to figure out why my insurance was not be applied to this appointment. I was also charged for a contact lens fitting when no contacts were actually fitted to me. I have never been to an eye doctor before where they do not look at how the contacts are sitting in my eyes. I have an astigmatism in both eyes and have had issues with contacts sitting correctly in my eyes in the past. I'm shocked MyEyeDr charges patient for a contact lens fitting when they do not provide adequate contact lens fitting services. I will never be going back to this eye doctor, and I hope anyone who reads the review chooses to go to a different eye doctor. MyEyeDr charged for services they did not provided and has incredibly rude/unhelpful staff. (The only good thing about this appointment was Zach who took the images and measurements at the beginning of my exam because he actually treated me like a human and listened to my concerns). Lastly, I scheduled an appointment with a different eye doctor in San Marcos. During my phone call with them, they (1) told me my insurance was accepted and that the third-party MyEyeDr was telling me I had to figure out on my own was VSP and that if it was not VSP, they would figure it out, (2) they listened to my concerns and said they would adjust my prescription to fit my actual visual experience, and (3) they were kind and friendly. If you want to receive good eye care, do not go MyEyeDr. read more

I have filed a complaint report to the MyEyeDr in San Marcos on 2406 Hunter Road, Suite 102 and requested a refund. It has been almost three months of delays. They have made a few errors on my prescriptions. They are at fault. The manager refused and avoided my contacting him. He is a total jerk and discriminating me as being Deaf. I checked the Yelp. A few complaints have been reported. I contacted the TSO in Houston. They were not cooperating. I contacted the Humana Member Service today. The Humana representative contacted the MyEyeDr office at 512-271-6914, the assist lady was very rude and hung up. The Humana representative requested to talk to the manager (owner of the MyEyeDr store) and he refused. The Humana representative filed a grievance against the store. I am stuck without having new eyewear. I already paid $239 out of my SSDI. I am broke! read more
