I'm surprised at the number of negative reviews. I scheduled an appointment for 1:30 and seen at 1:35. The lady working the front desk was cordial and friendly. I was asked upon my entrance how I could be helped. I think the customer service here is a-okay! I have been dealing with a nasty rash/itchiness/skin peeling around my eyes for the past YEAR, and have seen four medical professionals (an MD, a PA, an FNP, and even an alternative medicine professional) who have not been able to figure out what the heck is going on. I've been treated with lotions, Vaseline, eye creams, and even herbal medicines. None of it worked. Within minutes of meeting Dr. Stanfield, he declared that it was an allergic dermatitis, and a specific steroid cream would fix it in a few weeks max. He wrote me a script, I picked it up the same day, and used it for a grand total of 2 days. Within TWO DAYS, the issue that has plagued me for a year went away and has not come back. For that I am immensely grateful and could not recommend this place more. read more

Welp, we're here again for my oldest son's annual eye exam and this front desk lady (one I've never seen before so she must be a new employee) told me I'd have to pay this fee, that fee etc even after my insurance and when I told her I didn't have all these fees last year, she went and spoke to someone in the back and then came back and said, "you're fine". She said I would have to pay a $50 "fitting fee" and then I'd have to pay between $55-$90 depending on whether or not he has a stigmatism (which he does in one of his eyes). That raises my eyebrows because how many other patients has she told this to and they didn't question or challenge her "fees" and they actually paid what she said they needed to pay? I swore the last time I was here that I was never coming back here but I decided to give them another chance. Now I'm doubting whether or not I made the right decision. We're getting the contact lenses from here this time but I'll be getting his prescription and we'll be going to Sam's Club for glasses. This visit is a total change from our first visit. We sat and waited on Dr. Sable for over 30 minutes and while waiting, they moved us from the room we were waiting in, into a different room where we had to continue to wait for her to come in. She didn't wash her hands when she came in the room which is a huge red flag to me especially with her being a Doctor. HThe last time, the customer service was excellent from the front counter ladies to the assistant who assists the doctor to the actual doctor. This time, its garbage!!! Update: today, (6/4/18) I brought my oldest in for his yearly eye exam and I scheduled an eye exam for my 9 year old as well. My oldest has astigmatism and wears contacts and glasses so I knew what new to expect for his exam but I found out that my 9 year old is near sighted. Today, we saw Dr. Stanfield and I'm so happy we did! He is so freaking awesome with kids. My 2 year old was fussy when he walked in the room because he wanted to sit in the Dr.'s spinning rolling chair. Guess what happened!! Dr. Stanfield picked him up and let him sit in the chair with him while he examined my 9 year old. He loved it. He sat so calmly and observed everything! Both my oldest and 9 year old absolutely LOVED their visit today! He gave my oldest son some valuable advice about school and life in general. He gave all of my boys hugs before leaving the room and that let them know he genuinely cares for them! They're looking forward to their next appointment with him. I will request him from now on because seeing him today definitely put this locally back on my list of favorite optometrists. The front desk ladies were awesome today as well!! read more

This place is amazing. I called to make an appointment for my wife and I and the greeting from the front desk staff was very professional. They made my appointment and then let me know I could fill out my medical information online which was a big help so I didn't have to do it in their office. I arrived for my scheduled appointment and was pleasantly surprised that I was taken early. I went thru the normal process and then the doctor came in. I never felt rushed and she took the time to answer my questions and had several questions for me as well. It was a true pleasure to sit with the doctor and not feel like she was rushing me. Truly a mixed review. One aspect was great while another not so much. Dr Stanfield and Dr Turner are both great. I've been in twice since moving to the area. I recommend their services to anyone who asks. I've never had a problem with my appointments for eye exams. The front desk folks are not of the same quality as the doctors. My wife has complained about how rude "the gal at the front desk was" on her last visit. I met one of the fitters, spoke briefly and then immediately left to go find another facility to purchase my eyeglasses. The lady did not want to provide a printed cost estimate for the various options and appeared to be bothered by my request. That was in 2016. read more

I am sitting here for an hour AGAIN just waiting to be seen for eye glass frames. 3rd attempt to try on & purchase some Tiffany or Burberry frames. I see many staff sitting around who could ask me if they could help. Apparently, when you do get to see a fit assistant, you can have them the rest of the day. One lady has been trying on pair after pair for an hour. At some point they need to say-- "we have to limit our assistance to show frames to 30 minutes." Or something. I am trying to drop over 600$ on 2 frames and they can't make time to help me. I dont understand that business model. read more

Everyone who works here is fairly young. Front staff is nice, optometrist as well. Did not care for the first young girl who was checking my daughters eyes, the second one was nicer. I wasn't told prior to appointment that we'd have to wait another 30 mins if they needed to put in eye drops to dilate, which was VERY frustrating because I'm pregnant and it was lunch time. Didn't expect the appointment to be so long. Once finished we were checking out glasses our insurance covered with the Hispanic girl who works in optical. She wasn't very warm, didn't say much other than point us to where we could look at other kid options, and give me upgrade options and my total. I've worked for an vision source in Kyle, and they're pretty professional. I don't feel like this place was even remotely the same. Staff needs to be more welcoming, and time efficient. I could have gone elsewhere with the Rx for a better deal. read more

I had a most aggravating trip to the optometrist. It took me two hours to get in, get seen, and get out with a new prescription. Not only was the wait time to get seen ridiculous (there was hardly anyone else there besides me), but I felt the technicians and the doctors were all behaving in a very unprofessional manner. Things that happened while I was there include: 1. The technician who was doing my diagnostic exam forgot to record another woman's eye pressure on her chart so he "winged it" and gave an estimate. 2. During the middle of my actual eye exam, my doctor stepped out of the room to get a message about parking for the building and then waltzed back in and asked where we had left off. 3. I could hear another technician through the very un-soundproofed door telling her fellow employees what a leader she is and that's why she doesn't have a jail record like all her friends. 4. Had my doctor mislabel my chart with me having an astigmatism in both eyes when I only have an astigmatism in my right eye (which she had reconfirmed for me during the exam, though that's not what she wrote on my chart). Needless to say, I am concerned about the quality of care I received. My follow-up exam was little better with the doctor barely glancing at me and rushing through a litany of questions before hurrying me out of the exam room. I am currently in search of a new eye doctor. read more

The people who work at the desk are awfully rude. If I owned\ran this business I would not want my first impression to be any of the people whom have (lack of) greeted me. I would say I enjoyed my tech and the doctor, he was very nice and would be the only reason I would go back, which I will not, EVER. After paying for my contact exam and ordering contacts, the receptionist would not give me my info the first time. The second time she stated "well, its going to take a while" I wait 10 minutes while she types on a computer and writes things down. She huffs and walks away from desk. I gave them 4 trys to get my prescription correct and they failed. First time, it was the totally wrong prescription. Must have mixed up someone's elses exam. I also saw a yellow and orange glow around each letter that may have been the coating on the lens? not sure.... Second time, they got the left eye correct, but right eye wrong. Still see the yellow and orange glow on the words. Third time, clarity a little better but still yellow and orange glow on words. Not sure why this is happening. Fourth time, still seeing the glow around each letter....I asked for a refund. I have NEVER had this happen in my 12 years of wearing glasses. I would also like to add that a few receptionists had attitude as if I did something wrong. Not appreciated. Bottom line, they screwed it up so many times and I waited over a month for them to get it right. Will not refer anyone here. read more

This was my second time in this place and both times the customer service just flat out sucked. I set an Eye exam appointment for 12:45 and it was 1:30 and I was still sitting there and no one said anything. I was looking around for new frames and no one cared to even ask if I needed help. They had over 5 people behind the counter so enough people to cover the floor but they all just sat back there and talked about there cars and husbands. This place f'ing sucks so if you can go somewhere else please, for your own sanity do so because it's a complete waste of time. My one request for a doctors office is to keep scheduling open for allowing patient doctor interaction time and they obviously overbook out the wazoo. ...About a yr. ago or more I went to get my eyes tested/examined for routine check...generally all went well...with little or no glitches... ;-) .... Now it gets interesting: when I finally saw my regular MD...come top find out that TSO (of San Marcos, Tx.) omitted to mention that I have Glaucoma in my (L) left eye ....needless to say being upset I decided to return to there office shortly after this gained knowledge and ask them to explain why I wasn't told...their response: (speaking to supervisor/manager) " We don't know why & would look into the matter..." ...They did apologize & appropriately stated they would get back with me & give an update....;-) Needless to say ...even so "the damage was done..." I have been going here for years and in the last 2 year the customer service has declined significantly and everytime I go there seems to be new staff at the front desk as well as doctors. Office staff have messed up my contacts order last two times I have ordered requiring repeated phone calls that were never returned. This last time I called and was put on hold for over 15 minutes, they forgot I was on hold and was rude on the phone when they finally picked up again. I found a new Dr. and will not be going back due to the really poor customer service. read more

I have never ordered my contacts or eye glasses through them, and they have been rude and impossible to get my prescription through. I requested my eye glass prescription a week ago, as has Warby Parker, and they still have not sent it. They can also email me a copy of my contact prescription (because they took over a week to send that to 1800-Contacts) yet now can't email me my eye glass prescription...? I'll be finding another doctor after all of this mess. read more

Avoid this uncaring, impatient and disorganized staff. I can't speak for the doctors performance because I never even made it that far before leaving but it's a miracle they still have patients with the unprofessionalism exhibited by the front desk. I called on Tuesday to schedule an appointment at 4pm for Thursday. I arrived at the office 10 minutes early, knowing I would have to do paperwork as a new patient. No one greeted me or asked me to sign in and fill out any paperwork. I asked the front desk if I should sign in and they handed me a clip board without speaking. Not a big deal. I signed in and then sat down to wait. After waiting until 4:30 (30 mins after my appointment time) someone asked me if I was done filling out the paperwork. I kindly told them no one had given me any and then the gentleman returned and told me to fill it out. I filled out the paperwork and my name was called about 10 mins after. FINALLY! I jumped up and waited for someone to show me to my room, but instead was waved over by the front desk. The front desk then told me I didn't have an appointment at all. Hmmm.... I showed them my phone call log where I had called twice and asked for them to look again. All I got was a rude "sorry you don't have an appointment, are you sure you didn't just walk in?" At this point I was insulted, I obviously knew the difference between setting and appointment and just walking in. She asked me if I was sure I called this location and not another office. I showed her my call log again and said "yes I'm sure. This is your number right?" She didn't say anything, just blankly stared at the computer and said the doctor couldn't see me. Total waste of my time! Firstly, I scheduled an appointment. 100% sure of it. Secondly, if something had happened to where one of us messed up and I actually didn't schedule an appointment then why wait 1 hour after my scheduled time to tell me otherwise. This should have been addressed within the first few minutes after I signed it. This was handled completely wrong and I will NOT BE BACK. read more

I had an eye emergency yesterday morning and I called them to see if I could be seen. First they said it would be in the afternoon but after explaining how urgent it was, they agreed to see me ASAP. I have several vision issues and I'm not the easiest to find lenses for on short notice so I was kind of in the mind set that I would leave empty handed. I was wrong. Every single employee in the office was warm and kind. The front desk gal, Jennifer was so kind and shared a similar personal story with me. The guy who took me back was patient and also personable. The doctor herself, Dr. Turner, was the first doctor to find the perfect adjustment for me and she caught something new I've been struggling with for 3 years. I am now on day two and my vision has never been this good, I'm literally happy to tears because I thought my vision was just going to suck forever. The two techs who noticed I was struggling with putting in my new contacts (they're thicker than I'm used two) both offered to help and stayed in the room with me until I had both put in and then they double checked to make sure I could see and that the prescription was great. The optician who fit me for glasses was also incredible. I literally can't say enough. For someone who struggles with vision and always have, I'm so impressed. This is the best medical experience I've ever had. Please go to this office, you will be glad you did. read more

I went to TSO yesterday for a check-up following cataract surgery. The front desk staff, Pamela and Mercedes, were wonderful! They remembered me from my last appointment, which is amazing these days, and efficiently handled my pre-appointment paperwork. The doctor I saw was new to me and was the most user-friendly doctor I've ever met. A real "good old boy" in doctor attire! It was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend TSO to anyone, old or young. These folks are truly the best! read more

I had a great experience at the San Marcos TSO. I have always had a problem with the glaucoma test because, for whatever reason, I just cannot deal with people & things touching my eyeball or getting suddenly and literally all up in my face, but they made it easy and painless at Dr. Stansfield's office. The last time I went to get my eyes checked, it was at a place in Austin and I had braced myself for the old puff-of-air-in-the-eye test, which I'd always hated, but I felt mentally prepared. I then found out they don't do that anymore, and the nurse was going to put 2 kinds of eyedrops in my eye and then I would get poked in the eye with some kind of instrument. I could not sit still long enough for the nurse to put the drops in my eyes, and she wouldn't let me do it myself. She ended up treating me like a child, attempting to guilt me into doing the test, threatening me because I had signed a permission form, and essentially insulting me. Because of that, I had put off getting my eyes checked for about 4 years. At TSO in San Marcos, they used equipment that meant I would not have to have my pupils dilated or numbed -- no eyedrops. Just a camera to take a photo of the back of my eye and a little gauge thing that felt like little more than a hair in my eye. I was still twitchy about it, but the technician was very patient with me and even laughed with me when I started laughing at myself rather than threatening or insulting me. Dr. Stansfield also very clearly explained the results of all the tests and what everything was, so I felt fully informed about the health of my eyes when I left. I will definitely be going back -- and not putting it off another 4 years, either. read more

Worse place ever I did my eye examination back in October I just picked my glasses up this Tuesday I did a reversal on insurance to go from contacts to glasses which took over a month an half to do I called them and they were just like oh we haven't heard from the insurance.. I show up and there like oh the glasses are ready so why wasn't I called.. I told 2 different people that for my refund check I wanted to pick it up not mailed they said that was fine here I am now for an adjustment and asked about the refund and they said they mailed it no one here listens to you read more

There is a reason the reviews are so poor, They have horrible customer service. There are a couple of folks here that are good (like the ladies that help pick out glasses and lenses) but the front counter staff is beyond horrible. I will not be coming back to this place. I've been going to this location for 10 years and today when I went in for an adjustment the lady at the counter asked me if I had bought my glasses there and asked me if it had been a year since I bought them. Seemed to me that she was implying that she didn't want my business. I always go in for adjustments and they help me no questions asked. After 10 years I've never had anyone ask me those question much less interrogate me. Very rude of her! I didn't get her name because she wasn't wearing a name tag. read more

Just needed a screw put in my son's glasses that fell out. Went in, asked if I could just leave them and pick them up later, was told no by a head shake as the phone was answered in the middle of our conversation, and directed to sign in. So I did. Waited 5 minutes,listening to them apologize to customers on the phone while I waited.....was told by someone else I could be seen at the eyeglass counter. Stood here another 5 minutes, while someone came behind the counter, stocking contacts, never acknowledged I was standing there, another employee came out from the back-still no one acknowledging I'm standing there. So I left. And I can assure you I won't go back. See, this is after I had two more of my kids there to get contacts, one of whom I'm still waiting on them to call me so she can go in to get fitted etc. That was over a month ago.......... read more

The techs and doctors have been nice, but I am fed up with some of their business policies. I do understand it's a business over anything but they have been unhelpful and almost rude quite a few times. I always wait forever to be seen, usually well after my appointment time, and am rushed through appointments. Multiple times I have felt like my prescription was wrong and they have simply told me to give my eyes time to adjust. Adjust to not being able to see? I've also tried to get written prescriptions from them multiple times, and they always huff and puff about giving it out, especially if they feel like you're going to buy glasses or contacts from a 3rd party. In fact, I ordered glasses online once and the website eventually canceled my order and told me my doctor's office refused to cooperate, even after they had called/faxed them multiple times. Additionally, after an appointment I asked for my contacts prescription and they said they wouldn't give it to me - once again to let my eyes "adjust." That doesn't seem right to me. Today I needed an emergency pair of contacts as I ripped my last pair and am about to go on a long driving trip and can't wait for more in the mail. (My mistake for putting it off, I know.) I asked to buy a trial pair from them. They simply said, no you have used your trial allotment. I asked if there was anything I could do and they just said no. No explanation, no saying they didn't have any of my prescription in stock, just no. Everyone has usually been nice and really I am sorry to seem so scathing but there are cheaper places who will work with you much more. Like many of the reviews on here, there was a small glimmer of poor customer service for my visit. The optometrist and his assistant were very friendly, sociable, and concerned with my needs. The front desk was kind as well. Sadly, once I reached the table to try frames on, the assistant there was disinterested and would recommend frame styles that I specifically said I didnt like. And after an glasses I tried on, they replied "those look good/great/better" but all in all, didnt seem to care. They just kinda sat there... it was a bit awkward and unfriendly. But overall, my exam was excellent and had a large assortment of frames. read more

my kids loved dr stanfield and sara today! very personable and caring. put my children at ease and made it a fun experience. the doctor explained all the results with me and made sure i was comfortable with all the information. of course our optician belinda took perfect care of us also, she worked with me in choosing the right order to maximize my insurance benefits. all the office staff was professional and helpful as well. read more

Reason for three stars is Doc Stanfield is wonderful but I had to wait for almost an hour over my appt time to see him. Staff was mediocre, the place was packed... (apparent scheduling issues) and since I waited so insanely long to be seen my rating would be a one star overall, but Dr Stanfield kicked it up 2 stars.
