The service was good. The ambiance was ok. The food was not good. It was our Friday night fish fry and decided to go somewhere we haven't been in a while. We chose Richard's, it's been a couple years. We were not impressed unfortunately. The fish I ordered I couldn't eat and my wife's fish as well. The couple next to us had the kitchen redo the fish they ordered twice before they finally left. I don't know what happened to the restaurant but it was quite different. I hope they can fix this. If you're looking for good food, I would recommend going somewhere else. We ordered a rare steak, but it came out well done, and the seafood boil was severely overcooked. We waited 15 minutes to tell our server and she didn't even come over to our table until she was ready to give us the check. There was only one server for the entire dining room, and although she seemed overwhelmed and short on patience, it was clear she was stretched too thin. We were genuinely excited to try this place despite the mixed reviews, but unfortunately, it did not live up to expectations. Even small details, like crooked photos on the walls,added to the overall disappointing experience. Sadly, we won't be returning. The food was the biggest issue, and we would strongly suggest hiring a new chef. If you do decide to visit, we'd recommend going just for drinks rather than the food. This happened on a Wednesday special, and there were only a few people in the dining area. I came alone I waited for an hour and 20 minutes and the waiter came back to me to said he only put in half the order.. The service was horrible and in the past, I visited this establishment a few times for each time the food was either overcooked and or bland. Poor service, never got our food. Never have had issues with Richard's in the past and have always loved their chicken wings. Decided to try their Friday Fish fry. My husband and I were seated right away and waited 10 minutes for our server to even greet us. When she finally came over we ordered our drinks and food at the same time and were invited to head to the soup and salad bar. We finally got our drinks about 10 minutes later which was simply a virgin bloody and a soda. We then waited an hour and 15 minutes with our server never checking on us and watching everyone around us get their food, which there were only 6 other tables and lots of empty tables so the restaurant was not busy. After waiting so long, being ignored and frustrated, we went to the bar to offer to pay for our drinks and the salad bar but would not be paying for the food we did not receive as we did not get it but would pay for what we did consume as that was the right thing to do. The bartender asked what table we were at and said he did not have anything for that table, our drinks nor food were never entered into their system. He looked for our server and asked her what happened. From across the restaurant it looked like she didn't know. He still charged us for the salad bar (which we did offer to pay for) but did not charge for the drinks. After leaving hungry, we realized we were charged $12.50/person for the salad bar when the fish fry I had ordered came with the salad bar for only $13.50. Had we known the salad bar was the expensive part of the meal we would've gone up for more than one trip to the salad bar. All in all, left extremely disappointed with the service and how this situation was handled by both the server and bartender. read more

Richard's changed their Thursday special from all you can eat wings, to a buffet of chicken wings with no sauce, pork ribs with no sauce, Mac and cheese, red mashed potatoes and chicken gravy, and green beans. Now, in my experience with buffets with poor service, you get two types of food..COLD FOOD & NO FOOD!!! My son and I got both tonight!!! The chicken wings that were there when we first got their were Luke warm, at best!!!! Then the buffet ran out of wings!!! On my first trip, I got 5 wings (paddles and dummies)m I tried the green beans,because I love them. They were so watered down from sitting on the buffet for about 2 hours already. I tried the pork spare ribs with some honey BBQ sauce. They were so dry that I couldn't swallow them. My son agreed!!! The best part of my meal was the mashed potatoes!!! Another note on our delicious supper, when you eat at a buffet restaurant, isn't the salad bar already included with your meal??? Not at Richard's supper club it isn't!!!! That was an extra $4.95 per person!!! So, my meal consisted of 5 chicken wings, a small pile of potatoes and gravy. My son ate about 10 wings and a small scoop of Mac & Cheese!!! Came back into town to visit family and friends..been away since 1984 and make it back home a couple times a year from St.Louis. First time here. Met some friends for cocktails and dinner. Had great service at the bar and dining room. Ordered the perch fish fry (ya, and a few brandy old fashioneds...its Friday in Wisco, right?). Fish was really good, but the old school salad bar was a cool touch! And, some decent clam chowder to boot! Will def return. I was staying in a hotel near Stewart Ave in Wausau and was traveling alone. I really didn't want to go to a chain restaurant and wanted to go to a place where I could socialize with the locals. Man THIS WAS THE PLACE!! On top of it all I got the Ribeye which they hand-cut in house and I could order as many ounces as I wanted. I went for 18oz. ;). And ate every last bite. One of the best steaks I've had in a long time and I travel all over the world for work and eat at some really nice places...this honestly ranks as one of the top steaks I've had. A friend and I went there on a Thursday night tables were full but found a spot at the bar. Got drinks and ordered food right away. Surprisingly with that many people in the bar that it wasn't that long of a wait! My husband likes wings and he wanted to go out. Usually it's a place for him and the kids as wings are not my thing. Thursday's are their AUCE wings night. I ordered a pizza. Yuck!!!! A jack's frozen pizza would have been a step up. Our waitress was new and I think a bit slow. When we sat down we asked if there was a beer list and she looked at us like we were from another planet. Instead of just telling us that she would go find out she gave me a strange look, made a weird gesture and walked away. We asked the more experienced wait staff who was helpful in accommodating us. The crowd was a bit foul mouthed and vulgar that was sitting next to us, it was very uncomfortable. I wouldn't have wanted children to be there next to them. While spending a few days in Wausau recently we decided to check out Richards. They have great food at decent prices! I ordered the steak and lobster special for $18.99. The steak was a ribeye and very tasty even though it was completely overcooked since I did ask for rare. I loved the flavor so much and it was strangely juicy even though it was well done so I didn't even bother sending it back. The lobster was just the right size. They sent out the wrong potato but I was too full from the salad bar and rest of the meal to eat it anyhow. I ordered my steak with Mushrooms and they were amazing and plentiful. My husband enjoyed the tenderloin with onions and mushrooms. He wanted his well done and it was cooked perfectly for him. We had cheese curds for appetizer and they were delicious with the best ranch dressing ever. They also make a delicious and quite inexpensive tall old fashioned! The waiter was very personable and friendly! We will definitely come back, hopefully next summer when we return to the Northwoods for our family vacation. We were on a quest to dine at a Wisconsin supper club, and heard about Richard's. It was a bit of a drive from our hotel, but we rolled in on a Tuesday night and were surprised to see a fairly full parking lot. Once inside, we realized the draw must be Bingo night, as there were a couple of tables in the dining room covered with Bingo cards, and the bar was full. Hence we headed to the dining room for seating. No linen tablecloths and cloth napkins here, just good food, good service and a bit of fun. Our waitress Abigail was hustling all night and took good care of us. We ordred the hand battered asparagus, and a petite filet (bacon-wrapped and topped with mushrooms) for me, which I requested stuffed with garlic for an extra $1. Heck, who wouldn't pay a dollar to have a meal stuffed with garlic?!? The meal included a salad from the salad bar, and I was excited to find peas on the salad bar, plus sunflower seeds, and the Oriental dressing was great. When my steak arrived I appreciated the presentation of the filet, crowned with a large spill of sautéed mushrooms. My steak came with a baker, and everything was delicious. Before and near the end of our meal, we did monitor a pair of bingo cards hoping to cash in, but no such luck. But we did make off with a winner of a meal. read more

Went for dinner on a Saturday night, they had a prime rib buffet. The prime rib was really good, tender and cooked perfect (I like it medium rare). They had fried shrimp, baked chicken, and little chicken patties in a sauce. All of these were good too. The German potato salad was not what I am used to seeing but it was really good. They had a Philly Mac and cheese that was really good too. I had another piece of prime rib for dessert but they also made bananas foster to order for dessert included with the buffet. I was hungry for chicken Oscar and so searched for a restaurant that offered it and Richards had it on the menu. So let me start by listing the good points of this restaurant. I think the chicken Oscar was the best I've ever had. The chicken and asparagus were grilled to perfection and the béarnaise sauce was excellent. My husband had the broasted chicken and he said was good as well. They put a pitcher of water (always a plus) and extra napkins on the table. Our food came out hot and our waitress was very nice and attentive. That's it for the good points, now for the bad. Each entrée was at least $3 more than what they show on their website. These prices put them up in what I would consider finer dining, but the salad bar was very minimal, the buns were very cheap (like eating a cheap hamburger bun), the butter pats were so small that it took forever to butter my potato, the sour cream came in "take out packets", and if there was crab on my chicken oscar, I needed a magnifying glass to find it. Also, my husbands French fries were limp and tasteless. Then there was the décor. I think their decorating plan had been to go as drab as possible. And I found this the last time I had been there too, the waitresses could dress nicer or even like a waitress. They wear what they kick around the house in and unless they come to your table, you wouldn't know they worked there. The last time we were there, our waitress wore a tank top, shorts and flip flops. At these prices, have some professionalism, please. If you want to be just a bar with bar food, then that's what you do. Cut your chef loose so he/she can cook somewhere else that has the atmosphere and quality to back them up. read more

It's been forty-five minutes, and I've had to get up and refill my own drink only to be told that she could bring it back to me and add it to my tab. We dined at Richard's on Saturday for their prime rib and snow crab buffet. What a disappointment for $25 per person. Golden Coral has better food. The salad bar very small lacking a selection of toppings. The Chicken vegetable soup tasted as if it was made on Monday, very bland not much for veggies or chicken. On to the main buffet, for the few things we had, the fish was so over powered with lemon pepper it burned your mouth, it was inedible. The baked chicken was dry as if it had been cooked for hours and even had a piece that was under cooked. (Most likely from adding new with old, which we all know is wrong). The sweet and sour pork with rice, the pork was dry, sauce was so sweet all you could taste was pineapple, and the rice was way over cooked with the consistency of mash potatoes. Snow crab legs were over cooked, very salty, and dried out from sitting to long. The few you could get that were semi warm had been sitting in the water for who knows how long. On to the Prime Rib, all I can say about that it was ice cold and bland. Had to have mine taking back and re-fired on the grill, which I am glad I did, at least it ended up warm with some flavor unlike the piece my husband had with was warm, but so over cooked you had a hard time chewing it. Over all the service was good, our waitress friendly and prompt. With only 2 other couples in the dining area should have been a red flag and went somewhere else. My husband and I went to Richard's because our friends recommended it. They said to go on Thursday's for their all-you-can-eat wings for $5. I don't like wings, but my husband does, so we thought we'd try it. Our friends warned us that we would have to wait about an hour because they would be busy that night. When we walked in at 6:30, there was nowhere to sit, no big deal. We ordered our food right away and had a drink, and got a table by the bar as soon as the people left. This is when the waiting game started. We waited for about an hour and 45 minutes. No waitress stopped to offer us drink refills, or to reassure us that our order was still coming. Nothing. After about another 5 minutes, we had to flag down a waitress and ask about our food. She checked and said they were making it right now. We waited another 15 minutes and the waitress finally brought out my husbands food. They forgot about mine. I got to watch my husband eat his food and got mine when he was done. I asked for their manager because 2 hours is ridiculous and they forgot mine. The "manager" came over who looked about 21. She immediately started with "I know you're mad". She went in to how "this is just the way it is on wing night" as if a 2 hour wait is normal. She said there is nothing she could do but give us a free app card, which was for them forgetting my food, NOT the 2 hour wait. After I finished, we waited and waited for someone to offer a box or give us our bill. Still nothing. We had to ask a waitress for the bill and boxes. The waitress said my husband had to buy the remainder of his wings at 50 cents each (extra $6 or $7) because if we threw them out it would be "unethical". We were furious at this time. We left our money on the table on the bill and left. The manager came running out into the parking lot after us yelling that we still have to pay our bill. We had enough at this point. How humiliating. We yelled back that we left our money on the table and she gave us attitude even after we said that, saying she will call the cops on us. She didn't even listen to what we were saying. This was THE MOST HORRIBLE DINING EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED IN MY LIFE! If you could leave no stars, I would. I obviously would NOT recommend going to Richard's. read more
