I can't say enough good things about Myles construction. We did an addition to our home with bathroom and small kitchenette. The crew were there like clockwork at 7am sharp! The workers not only did a great job but were always very pleasant to talk to about construction or just talk about the weather. The owner Richard was there almost everyday working with his crew. An extremely pleasant hard working individual. I was a bit apprehensive cause there procedures are such that first u do planing phase with Nick who has worked at Myles for 20 years or more. Nick is awesome, positive ,hard working individual. So we did planning and signed papers with him and never met Richard. Nick told us all about him. We thought it was a bit odd we didn't meet him. Nick assured us he would do a great job. Now after been through the process I understand. Richard is at job sites busting his ass and doesn't have time for that type of thing. My words not Myles constructions or Richard's. As soon as I met Richard I knew I was in good hands. There were several things that came up and Richard was on top of it. We made changes to things on the fly, Richard was like sure no problem we will get it done after city approves it. He pressed on and got stuff done. Sometimes he would show up at 830pm picking up the trailer and checking on things. I'll say it again , HARD WORKER! I got a bad leak at my home I didn't know who to call I called him, he said I just had a leak let me take a look. He was there in less than an 1 hour .I had , had surgery and tried to pay him twice by accident due to being so out of it from surgery. I highly recommend this company. Our roughly 800sf addition was performed by Myles Construction. I went through attaining 5 bids. They were close to best price actually and interviewed very well. I also called 7 referrals that Myles Construction provided, and all checked out very good and all homeowners that I spoke with said they would work with the company again. Down to earth and very responsive. They were on budget with the exception of some small upgrades I made, but that was my choice. We were delayed a month because of heavy rain, but that was out of their control and could not be happier with the work. My highlight of the project was when the owner personally went onto my roof to install the craftsman apex roof detail that I designed. He took the time to work with me to position correctly and told me it was too important to not get right, so cut everything, positioned, and installed himself. Contact with the owner was on site almost daily and he always communicated if he would be away so we would feel confident and at ease. I could not recommend this company more, and if I can ever buy another home, I would certainly have Myles Construction execute my vision. read more

Myles Construction completed a second story addition on our Eastside Costa Mesa home about a year ago, and we couldn't be more thrilled! Nick was immediately helpful over the phone and with the bidding process. He included the basic finishes, which I appreciated, because then I could pick and choose where I wanted to upgrade. Richard took over once the work began and was truly a pleasure to work with. He was kind and personable, and most importantly, patient with me. All of the subcontractors hired through Richard were great and reliable, as well. Our second story turned out beautifully, inside and out. I love that the exterior has a cohesive look, so the design was great. Moreover, inside we now have the perfect new set up, including 2 more bedrooms, a new full bath, a loft and alas, access to our garage from the house! We are even hoping to hire Myles Construction again for another downstairs bed & bath addition, to give my husband and I the space we deserve, too. We just 'finished' our 2nd story addition in Irvine with Richard; my wife and I wish we had better things to say about Myles Construction. The process was far from ideal; but never the less, under difficult circumstances due to Covid supply issues, we are thankful that we are almost at final inspection. I Would Not recommend Myles; but if you do choose to work with them here are a few things that I've learned from the experience. Richard & Nick will be bidding on your job with the bare basic price to win your business. Unlike me, be sure to read each and every line item of the bid. They will use the most minimal/cheapest components just to get under the competition Major things that they Do Not Include are: Interior/Exterior Painting; Carpeting/Flooring; Damages to the property, Landscape/Hardscape damages, Fence damages; they will not reinstall the Garage door if they taken that down for work & obviously they won't fix the dents on the garage door. They will Not reinstall your Sprinkler system if they dug it up for foundation work. They will drag out their finish date and will not compensate you if they go over. There are Tons of little things that I ASSume was part of the agreement, but was my fault that I didn't happen to think of those items from the beginning. They will require Change Orders for basic (inspection required items) things like 5" Base Boards & Door Moldings; Bathroom Counter, Tiling and Hardware; Pony walls; Outdoor Landings, Stair Handrails & Water Heater earthquake Straps, Closet mirror bypass doors, Subcontractors will hard sell you to upgrade your AC condenser even through if your Tonnage can handle your additional square footage; Electricians will recommend a sub-panel (which isn't the end of the world) but will of course upsell you on additional outlets, switches and wiring expenses. Even a little Change Order such as adding a Soap Dish/shampoo enclosure can add 3-Additional Working Days to the Job giving them justification to delay your Job. Then there are just things that are essential to any home that I wasn't aware of that again I assume was budgeted or at the very least have some sort of credit that can go towards upgrading such as: closet wired shelving; patio stoop landing; interior trim lighting are NOT included, outside patio light fixtures; light switches; pony wall molding are all things I had to purchase or coordinate the install myself. I understand things I would need to provide things like Ceiling Fans if I want it, but Light bulbs/Trim & door knobs? I was given the smallest toilet, cheapest doors, windows were mediocre. Workers will not show up for Weeks to the job and suddenly you will be 'forced' to make snap decisions without warning or much thought. My biggest regret was not having a Project Manager or third party Supervisor on my side overseeing the project; I had to get on Richard case for missing deadlines and not following up on materials. Some positive experiences working with Myles & Richard. I do appreciate that Richard does answer his phone or return my calls. Emails and Text messages were not as effective; I would run ideas by him without much feedback and things that I said that I wanted were soon forgotten. Richard does give adequate grace periods between installments and I was stubborn to pay if things were done right before moving forward. His work from what I can tell are quality and at each stage we were quick to pass inspection. As of writing today; Richard has stopped returning my calls and text messages. I have yet to pay my last two installments totaling about $14,000 because there are patches of Browning/Stucco that are not done; interior doors are still not hung; and Baseboards that are still not installed. I had to call for my own Final inspection; and upon a pre-inspection walk through, there are numerous items that I will have to fix myself. I see how this is a Tactic Myles employs to end jobs; they let you off the hook with not paying for the last installments; because they've already gotten you to pay for your full agreement price + all the change orders; and they get to walk away from the job without seeing you all the way through to the end (I get the message). If it weren't for my handy father; we would be far behind and would not have been able to move in in the time that we did. Overall, construction will be tough whoever you choose; Myles will try to get away with giving you the least they can; you will have to fight to get what you want and end up overpaying for things that you didn't think about, planned on or have not accounted for. I would stay away, although your choices are few and in-between with the worker & material shortages. Be sure to watch Myles like a Hawk if you choose to work with them; and Be prepared to do your research on the overall scope and process of construction if you don't hire professional help. I can't even give this contractor 1 star!! He is the most deceitful, horrible contractor I have ever worked with!!! And we have worked with a lot of contractors over the years since we bought our fixer upper in 1986. All the complaints I've read in this review, he did to us. We finished the work. Quick update, Richard and I came to a fair agreement after we reconnected. He did offer a discount for the work left unfinished and is allowing me to make monthly payments into next May, which is very helpful. He did also fixed our side gate which I grateful. The house feels solid and holding up well to the recent rains. We did pass final inspection from the city and the HOA will need some documentation for some exterior changes and approval. Overall Myles construction is valued end work for a budget conscious families. You have to think through your entire build, through each and every step. I would recommend hiring a supervisor or consult a project manager to manage each or at least have each unforseen contingent address before signing. It's very tough to find good help regarding. In 2004 Myles Construction added an 1100 sq ft 4 bedroom 2 bath second story to my house. We lived in the bottom floor during the construction. They used ladders to get to the second floor so that they didn't have to go through the house until it was time to build the stairs. The workers also sat in their trucks in the morning until we woke up. read more

We had a small single-story home we had purchased and used off and on in Huntington Beach for years. We knew that one day we would be adding on to the house and doing some major renovations. The day had come. We shopped, bid, looked at work done elsewhere by many contractors and settled on Myles Construction. We ended up going from a single story 1,100 sq ft house to a two story 3,499 sq ft house. Myles listened and executed to our desires perfectly. There were a couple hitches along the way, as there will always be on such an undertaking, but these were addressed honestly and immediately and we resolved them easily. Please don't not hire this company! All of the workers are great but the owner does not take responsibility for work not completed properly. When I was not happy with the way my James Harding cement siding was completed, he was rude to me and made every excuse possible for his inadequate work. As an older woman who has done many remodels in the past, I have never had a contractor treat me in such a disrespectful, rude, manner. I have to wonder if he would talk to his mother as he has treated me. So , I am now stuck with a 10,000 James Harding siding that is not done correctly. He refuses to fix properly, so I will have to go to a higher authority. This is not what I want to do, but I can not accept substandard work, along with a disrespectful attitude. Now the stucco that they replaced is coming off. You touch it and it falls off! read more

Here is a short list of what ensued after we contracted with Myles Construction to add a second story to our home: The site supervisor disappeared after the first week or two, never to return. When I asked what happened to him, I learned that he left the job to care after an aging parent. He wasn't replaced and the work suffered considerably without proper supervision of the workmen. The framers often failed to follow the architect's plan. In one case, they constructed the stairs 36" wide when the plans called for a 42" wide stairway. After I complained, they rebuilt these at the correct width, but the stairs still didn't conform to the plans and had to be modified at extra expense by my own contractor. Still, the owner stood his ground and insisted that the stairs were better than what was described in the plans. The drywall man frequently derided the other trades, but he let me know that the framers installed the windows crooked; to this day, the screens do not fit properly. The framers also shot nails into a PVC toilet waste pipe, which leaked within the wall a few years later. The electricians were friendly, but often incompetent as well; they wired many appliances wrong, such as the jacuzzi tub, which required a higher amp circuit than they initially provided.  They also failed to install a GFCI outlet for this, and after Myles' plumbing leaked later on, my plumber refused to work on the jacuzzi until a GFCI was installed. To their credit, the electricians came back to fix this, even though their rep told me on the phone that they stopped doing business with Myles because of other issues I won't go into. The stucco began cracking within weeks of its application. The stucco workmen also embedded a water pressure valve with stucco, which I caught right away and had the plumber dig out. After the job, we also saw our AC unit on the second floor start to leak due to Myles' installation of a too-narrow water line. It became apparent that the installers used a clear plastic tube for this, which filled with mold, stopping up the line and backing up water into the furnace closet. This was a huge disaster, but thankfully we had ample insurance to cover this damage, but we still had to repair the AC unit at our own expense. I could go on, but I won't...just avoid for your own good! read more

100% satisfied. We are so happy with our remodel. Very impressed with Myles construction. How and where can I begin to describe how great our experience was. We wanted to a do a major remodel, we added an entire 2nd story, added on to the downstairs, new plumbing, new electric, basically got an entirely new house. We began working with the team who walked us through each step from design to permit to demo, to completion. Once it began, they took care of everything; the process was amazing. Some of the things that amazed me was how clean the work site was, the quality of work that went into each step, the willingness of the team to help or go the extra mile on small things to big things. Anytime I raised a question or concern, it was immediately addressed and taken care of. I truly felt that the team approached the building/remodeling of our new home as if it was their own home they were building. Just the care and attention to detail and the willingness to go the extra mile not only to make it right, but to make my wife and I happy. Myles really has an attention to detail and really sought to produce the best product. It took under 6 months, for Myles to convert our single story 1,400 sqft house to a 2 story 3,200 sqft house with all new electric, all new plumbing, insulation, etc. When it was all over my wife and I were sad, because we had grown so fond of the Myles team. I can say many wonderful things about the entire team, from Nick, Israel, to Richard. They are great people and truly seek to do what is right, and will not take short cuts. They take pride in the quality of the work and wanted to give us the best home possible. We are so grateful to Myles construction for everything they have done. We live in Irvine and we added 602 sq feet of living space that includes doubling of our family room, two new bedrooms, reconstructing another bedroom and a study room, one full bathroom and the hallway. The back of the house was extended with new roofing, new air conditioning and heating, extended plumbing and everything that was part of the architect's plan. Our project was started on June 2nd, 2011 and lasted till August 25th, 2011, about 14 weeks...2 weeks more than planned. We started by INDEPENDENTLY getting an architect who drew the blueprints and got it approved by the City of Irvine planning department. After it was approved, I started looking for General Contractors, interviewed & got bids from four of them. Myles Construction's bid was the most detailed and specific, middle of the price range. I hired them because the project specified everything in detail including the items that are included and NOT included. This was very important to me because I was apprehensive of this project and I was in no mood to have any surprises during the construction. Myles Construction, lead by Richard Taylor who is the General Contractor, started the project ON TIME, and showed up every day 7am with the crew and got to work. Yes, REALLY. I would go to work at 7:30am and the work would gotten started. I noticed the progress on my property on a regular basis. Richard was very thorough with his work and is a stickler to the architect's blueprints. He worked with the workers and I never saw him aloof or absent from the project. My at-home mother-in-law was delighted by the professionalism of every worker who came to our property and were considerate enough to let her know of anything that disturbed her and our three little children. The quality of the work was very good, as much I would know, and now it has been a year after the project has been completed with no problems whatsoever. Here the caution...Get the whole project hashed out in detail on what you want and what is NOT covered. The contract I signed with Myles covered everything and what we expected. It was 12 pages long with every item that will be done. As it happens, changes are inevitable. All changes were written up and additional charges were submitted to us. A major revision was to the blueprint from cathedral ceiling to flat ceiling which added to the price for additional work. BOTTOM LINE...any changes and request you demand midstream different from the blueprint and the contract will (and should) cost you money. MAKE SURE YOUR ARCHITECT'S BLUEPRINT IS HASHED OUT FULLY WITH EVERYTHING YOU NEED THE WAY YOU NEED. THE CONTRACT MUST SPECIFY WHAT WILL BE DONE AND WILL NOT BE DONE. After that DON'T INTERFERE AND BE NERVOUS ABOUT IT. LET THE CONTRACTOR AND THE WORKERS DO THEIR WORK AND STAY OUT. We made sure that work was getting done everyday and kept in regular contact with Richard Taylor, once or twice a week. He always called me when he had questions. MOST IMPORTANT, WE DID NOT DEMAND CHANGES FROM THE ARCHITECT'S DRAWING AND THE "BRIGHT IDEAS" WE WOULD GET MIDSTREAM. Finally, always budget about 10 to 15% $$$ more than the estimate. We paid $3000 fees to Irvine School District, about $3000 to City of Irvine, Paid for Rerouting the gas piping as it was running illegally underground in the backyard, Upgrading the windows, slider door, A/C unit, Upgrading the bathroom to fancy, Changes to electrical in old part of the house, $400 for City of Irvine Energy Efficiency Verification (passed on the first test), upgraded closet doors, replacing broken roof tiles on old part of house etc etc. ALL CHANGES AND UPGRADES WILL (AND SHOULD) COST MONEY. Myles Construction always gave us a written Change Order with details and prices which we either accepted or rejected. Everything was clear and open. WE NEVER EXPECTED THAT WE CAN DEMAND CHANGES AND UPGRADES AND THE CONTRACTOR WILL ROLL OVER AND DO IT FOR FREE. WE WERE FAIR AND EXPECTED EVERYTHING WE AGREED UPON WILL BE DELIVERED. We had a second story addition to our house a decade ago. A day does not go by that we do not regret our decision to go with Myles. They were the cheapest bid and now we know why. There we no creativity or attention to detail. They came in cheap, but then required all kinds of expensive add ons as we went along. When requested at the end to make improvements to what we felt was incomplete work before we made the final payment, the owner threatened a lean against our property and became aggressive. We had a lawyer get involved, but ended up paying Myles off to avoid high lawyer fees to take him to court. I would never recommend Myles to do any work. read more

We added 800 SQ.FT. (second story over garage) about 6 months ago. The project went quite smooth. The crew was good at everything they did and well behaved. No complaints from neighbors. Our city inspector in Yorba Linda is very demanding, yet the inspections went well with only minor rework which the builder did without complaining. Richard, the owner, is onsite almost all days and works along with the crew, so there is a lot of pride/ownership he takes in his work. Very professional and experienced. We hired Myles Construction to do a large remodel and addition to our Huntington Beach home. We gutted our home inside and out and added over 350 square feet to the floor plan. Myles Construction installed new doors, windows, and exterior stucco. We moved walls, changed the location of the laundry room and added another bathroom. They also upgraded our plumbing and electrical throughout the house. Myles Construction was very conscientious in their work and the end result is a beautiful home. Myles Construction was very thorough and made sure that our dream house became a reality. Myles Construction build a 1,700 sq. ft. two story addition for us six years ago. They stayed within the promised costs, built a quality addition and completed on time. I would recommend them to anyone and have recommended them many times. They and their subs were wonderful to work with. We always were kept informed of the construction process and knew what was comming up so we could plan our lives as we lived in the house during the process. We are now 3 yrs post completion of our renovation with Myles Construction. I'm reminded almost daily of their substandard work. I was unaware until a few months after completion that when they installed the new electrical fixtures, they didn't maintain the all-copper wiring. Aluminum was their wiring of choice (no discussion with us regarding this!), and since I didn't even think to check for it we're now at great risk of a fire. Just watch any renovation show and they'll talk about the risks of aluminum wiring. When in close contact with copper wiring it will arc and spark, starting the fire. We had upgraded our wiring to copper when we purchased the house, so now the original half of the house has copper and the Myles Construction half has aluminum. This saddened me because I had had a good relationship with the electricians that Myles supplied. Good guys, very friendly, easy to work with. Another problem occurred when Myles required that a section of the master bath floor had to have a hatch door cut into the finished tile in order to access the plumbing under the tub. Seems to me that since Myles had poured the foundation after all the plumbing fixtures were purchased, on site, (with all the specs sent to Myles' office), and that the plumbing is on the exterior wall, that an access point from the foundation would have been not only the preferred choice, but the only choice. They didn't think this through early enough, and once the tub was installed it was an afterthought. We were told that this hatch had to go in, even though the inspector disagreed. Every time we step on the hatch, there's a little give to it. Keep in mind, this a fully tiled floor. We had to cut out grout and use a silicone caulk that has some flex to it, since the grout disintegrated. I have my doubts that the hatch will hold up. We had another problem during the summer following the completion date, after a heat wave. I noticed that our daughter's bedroom ceiling was starting to sag. This was new drywall that Myles installed, as extra supports were needed in her ceiling to handle the added weight from the addition. Turns out that Myles' HVAC installer used a 1/4" line in the A/C condensation drain line. Since it was hot and the A/C was running non-stop, the too-small line backed up and burst, flooding the ceiling over our daughters bed. The drywall collapsed. There was no other plumbing anywhere near this room, so it was obvious that the culprit was the A/C line. Once it was replaced with the appropriate size, the problem disappeared. And a new development has come up. We had a stairway put in to access an expanded attic space. Just recently I noticed that when I step on the floor alongside the staircase, it gives in and creaks loudly. I'm expecting deep cracks to form in the walls any day now. Trust me when I say that I don't like to gripe. I don't want to hurt anyone's company. I probably would have liked the owner, had we not had a business relationship that had gone bad. Certainly, some of our problems were due to subcontractors who did substandard work, but when it comes down to it, the general contractor is responsible. It saddens me that it was such a bad experience, because I usually thoroughly enjoy renovation and construction. read more

Do Not Do business with this contractor! Beware! I almost lost my home because of them! I will keep it short and to the point. They lie about how much your construction is going to cost. When you ask them why are you in ALOT more $$ they are honest they will tell you because if we gave the true dollar amount we wouldn't be competitive! Let me tell you, I was in about $20k more then quoted! Next, the owner is a prick, he yells at customers and be littles his workers. Their work is less then substandard. Hire a Home Depot guy for the day and you'll get the same results. Let me just end this with, I had to borrow an additional 20k to pay them off and I still ended up with no roof, walls, stairs,(nothing really) because he gave my husband (who was so pissed off to fully read) a document that released him of all ties with us and he ran away with 143k! I didn't have money to sue him, or else I would have. The statues of limitations is over...he's lucky. But save yourself grief, don't do business with them. Worse experience of my life! read more
