We planned to be in Mandarin over the weekend so I suggested be stop in at Mythical Mountain while we were out that way. If you love comics and pop culture in general, you really need to stop by this store. We try to stop in whenever we're over in Mandarin. While I've never been big into comic books, I've always loved pop culture collectibles. I know they can't carry everything in store but every time we're in there I'm amazed by how much they do have on hand. Sure, there are huge online stores that you can order tons of things from but like always, I'd rather support a local Jacksonville business if at all possible. Especially if it's a place I've received great customer service from before and that's the case with Mythical Mountain. We've called ahead before when we were looking for gifts and had them remember the call hours later when we got to the store and helped us find the perfect gift. I took a few pics to share but I still don't think it gives you a good idea of how much stuff they have in the store. I didn't find anything I wanted to pick up today but my wife found a Mick Foley action figure that she bought for herself, so that's a win for America. If you needed any further proof of the level of customer service and care they provide, you don't really need to look further than the most recent post I made about them in the the Jacksonville Fun, Eats & Drinks Facebook group. I posted a recap of our most recent visit in the group and mentioned the part you just read about how I didn't find anything then I mentioned that I need to call them some time to see if they can get their hands on one of the Michael Jackson figures made by Blitzway because they seem like the type of store that might be able to get that type of thing. Then I went on to say that even if they can't get it, I'd still rather try if I can go through a local place first before somewhere online. Within minutes, the store owner left a comment asking me to send her a DM with information on what I'm looking for to see if she can help. See what I mean? You can't get that kind of customer service from any online store, no matter how big and bad they are... If you like stuff like this, stop in at Mythical Mountain in Mandarin some time. Even if collectables or comics aren't your thing, I bet you could find a gift for someone you know at this store with ease. They are like the GameStop of collecting. They will offer cents on the dollar saying there's not much they can do. Then turn around and change top dollar for those items. read more

John pointed out the sign stating it sounds like something I would enjoy, but really my boys would have geeked out much more than I did. Comic book art lines the window displays and as we entered through the doors, the bustling store had 2 tables set up with artists signing their art! How cool! The age range of customers varied as much as the items throughout the store. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Thundercats, Voltron and more for more my age group, comic books galore, an entire section of horror movie accoutrements and more. If you are looking for fan art, action figures, masks and more- this place is just what you need in your life. The front corner of Anime had me break out my phone to tease my youngest who is on the other side of the country! I always enjoy a trip down 80's cartoon & movie memories! Reminiscent of the Saturday mornings when me and my siblings would watch every cartoon we could adjust rabbit ears on the tv to come in! This is my LCS (Local Comic Shop) and with good reason. I've never walked into a comic shop where, as a woman, I didn't feel almost instantly judged until I found Mythical Mountain. You can tell, instantaneously, that Mythical is a family run shop because when you walk in, you're immediately welcomed into that family. Jamey, Kathy, and Shawn are the absolute best. My pull list currently resides here, as did a friend of mine's, who currently is serving in the Navy in Europe, for a while. They've been excellent at keeping up with what I'd like, as well as my friend, and I can easily just send a message to their FB page if I'd like to add or remove a series from my pull. There's an excellent selection of current and back issue comics (both Big 2 and independent publishers), supplies like bags and boards, Funko Pops, action figures, graphic novels, art, fandom books, and more. You could find a gift for any geek, or aspiring geek, in your life here. There's a whole section dedicated to Star Wars that contains books and graphic novels both old and new. I might have spied Heir to the Empire in those shelves not too far back. Prices are fair and reasonable, as you would expect at any local business. Mythical also hosts some great events throughout the year between Mandarin Mini-Con, Free Comic Book Day, as well as events for your little ones where they can draw their own comic cover and get introduced to age-appropriate books. They've opened up a second location on St. George Street in St. Augustine, and I can't wait to check it out. read more

Terrible customer service. The kid working the counter is very rude. I went up there with a smile on my face and a positive attitude; he didn't give half that much effort. He only gave me short answers and showed no interest in wanting to help me. I won't be coming back. read more

I cannot recommend this shop enough! We stopped in randomly when leaving another store because my son has recently gotten into Pokémon and I was looking for some of those card sleeves for a few of the better cards he'd recently found. Often hobby/niche shops can feel elitist or off-limits if one has less than expert knowledge of the focus area. However, the staff at this store are so welcoming and helpful! My daughter (age 7) was with me and has recently become interested in Wonder Woman and noticed some WW merchandise so we asked for help finding comic books. The staff member was so kind to my daughter, walking us over to the section but also going out of his way to find a DC Superhero Girls graphic novel from a different section, which was a perfect fit for her! We didn't get the card sleeves, but we walked out with some new books and plans to return very, very soon for more! Thank you all! read more

Love love love this store. They get new items in every week(maybe even every other day). Their prices are very reasonable and very comparable to what you will find on Amazon. Even if they are slightly more, I'm willing to pay to help support a cool local shop like this. Their store is well organized, clean and super easy to navigate. They have a corner for sci-if shows, comic book characters and movies, anime, and some niche horror stuff. Really recommend this place. This place has developed into one of the best comic shops in the area and it keeps getting better for one reason, customer service. The owners are some of the nicest and most genuinely helpful people I've come across and it's really very nice to come by and see all of the new products they are always seeming to get. Overall I do really like this comic shop, the owner is really nice and knowledgeable, they have a special section for kids and a good collection. I do however feel like the prices on back issues are higher than they should be. Some issues I get, they're more popular but there are a lot being sold for cover price that really shouldn't be (old x-files and books that are clearly just unsold and not popular for example). Back issues are often hard to find as well because the comic don't seem to be in any logical order (the long boxes are, but the comics in the boxes are not - at least in the boxes I've looked through). It's not the type of place you can just pop in and pick up a something quickly but the newer releases are very easy to find. I come here for new books when I'm in the area but I tend to go elsewhere if I need any back issues. read more

Even if you don't buy anything, this store is just a joy to walk around in. It's like a nerd museum filled with super hero artifacts. They've got tons of new comics, back issues, pops, action figures and tons of other stuff. The staff are always friendly and helpful. This is a great local comic shop! read more

I had to find a way to make contact with my 15 year old daughter. She loves her comics! Now all we needed was a store to make her feel comfortable. Kathy and Jamie had done their job! Not only has their kindness and their AA+ service brought my daughter's (3) to think of them as family friends, but they have lassoed their father as well. They will walk you through becoming a real comic collector by explaining how to get started, how to take care of your collection to last forever, and make it an enjoyable hobby. My wife has enjoyed the wine glass painting with a school friend, and my oldest has created her own comic cover that she proudly displays. Great store, very inviting with a wonderful family owned environment. Look for them at the Cons, as well. Can't say enough about these guys. Got me on a comic pull every two weeks and I am on the edge every week for the new comics! Thank folks, you deserve it!! read more
