To start, the check-in process was far more difficult than it should have been. Despite notifying the hotel in advance (in writing, through their app) that we would be arriving early, one of our confirmed reservations was canceled. This created a cascade of inconvenience: one of our guests was left without proper accommodations for part of the stay and had to spend a significant amount of time working from the lobby. For a property operating at this level, that kind of breakdown in communication and inventory management is surprising. The front desk experience, specifically with Stephanie, was another challenge. The day before our scheduled checkout, she called asking why we were still in the room--seemingly unaware of our actual reservation dates. She called again later that same day with the same concern. While she did eventually apologize and acknowledged the mistake, the repeated interruptions had already created unnecessary friction. What was more concerning, however, was a lack of situational awareness. The same guest who had been displaced due to the reservation issue was later approached in the lobby--while dressed in business attire and actively on a call--and asked whether he was a guest of the hotel. Given the earlier issues, this came across as both disorganized and, frankly, dismissive of the inconvenience already caused. I want to be clear: these are fixable issues. With better internal communication, stronger training around guest management, and more attention to detail, this could be a very different experience. But as it stands, the front desk operations--particularly during check-in--fall short of what one would reasonably expect. For those considering a stay, I would recommend confirming all details multiple times and being prepared for some inconsistencies at arrival. And for management, this feels like a clear opportunity to invest in training and process improvements, particularly for guest-facing staff.

The morning check-in went okay: a new front-desk employee did her best, issued new keys, and said she'd marked my room as cleaned so I could be rechecked into the same room. Unfortunately the recheck-in process wasn't communicated to the rest of the staff - I had three different housekeeping attendants knock on my door at different times asking when I was checking out. That would have been salvageable, but the night shift was worse. I returned around 9:45 PM exhausted and could not get into the building or my room with the new key. The desk only had one clerk (Sheena) who was on the phone and assisting another guest; while waiting I asked if another staff member could help and she shook her head no. The first guest was apologized to, given water and an item from the store, and sent on their way - I received no apology or acknowledgement despite already having completed check-in and being a multi-week guest. I left feeling like a nuisance. I'm disappointed and frustrated. Management needs to improve communication between shifts and train front-desk staff to prioritize locked-out guests (and show basic courtesy). I won't be staying here again unless things noticeably change over the coming weekend - there are plenty of other hotel options in the area.

July 2026 - Sparks, Nevada…read more Where Red Glass, Free Electrons, and Mildly Haunted Hallways Somehow Become Home Western Village is one of those places that never tries to convince you it's Las Vegas. Instead, it quietly whispers, "Relax... we've got comfortable beds, friendly people, and free electricity." Oddly enough, I found that whisper surprisingly persuasive. The first thing that grabbed me wasn't the casino. It was the entrance. Those deep crimson glass doors leading into the registration area are unexpectedly gorgeous. Walking through them feels like entering another dimension where everything is dipped in ruby light. It's equal parts David Lynch dream sequence and romantic Valentine's card written by someone who owns a slot machine. I absolutely loved it. The photos don't quite capture how surreal that warm red glow feels in person. Once inside, I was greeted by Chelsea at check-in. She was soft-spoken, genuinely kind, and had that effortless hospitality that makes you wonder if she's secretly casino royalty disguised as a front desk clerk. She made the arrival feel easy rather than transactional. If you're planning to gamble, have them set you up with a Passport Rewards card immediately. There isn't much downside, and free casino perks have a funny way of feeling like little birthday presents from the gambling gods. One thing that deserves applause. Free EV charging. ChargePoint stations. Free. Yes, they're slower than a teenager asked to unload the dishwasher, but after roughly five hours I picked up around 35% battery. Free electricity is still free electricity, and as someone who enjoys finding value hiding in plain sight, I considered that a surprisingly generous perk. The casino itself is spacious and inviting. It never felt cramped, and there was enough breathing room between machines that you didn't feel like you were accidentally becoming part of someone else's jackpot celebration. I mostly noticed slot machines, although I believe there may have been a poker room somewhere. I actually enjoy poker... but my room had evolved into one of those dangerously comfortable cocoons where convincing yourself to leave requires a formal committee meeting. Speaking of the room... It's definitely showing its age. But here's the strange thing. It doesn't feel old. The hallways have this wonderfully eerie personality--as though they've witnessed forty years of lucky streaks, broken hearts, Elvis impersonators, wedding anniversaries, and countless promises of "just one more spin." Yet somehow they don't smell tired or neglected. Instead they simply feel... seasoned. Like your favorite old leather jacket that somehow gets cooler every year. The room itself was comfortable, the bed was excellent, and while the television proudly offers roughly ninety channels, approximately seventy-two appear dedicated to informing you that somewhere, someone is selling miracle cookware at 2 a.m. Which, honestly, was perfect. As I write this review, I'm stretched across a very comfortable bed watching The Wedding Singer, patiently surviving another five-minute commercial break while wondering whether Adam Sandler's hair should qualify as a historical landmark. One area where Western Village absolutely shines is the staff. Every single interaction--from security, to the front desk, to restaurant hostesses, bartenders, servers, and everyone else I encountered--felt sincere rather than rehearsed. Nobody acted like they were reading from a customer-service handbook. They simply treated people well. That's becoming surprisingly rare. 100/100 across the board. My only real negatives? I never found table games, which was a little disappointing, and the Wi-Fi could definitely use an upgrade. Streaming anything substantial felt about as ambitious as convincing a slot machine you're "due." Still... There's something charmingly authentic about Western Village. It isn't trying to dazzle you with marble imported from another continent or fountains choreographed to opera. Instead it quietly wins you over through comfort, friendliness, little unexpected perks, and an atmosphere that's equal parts heartland motel, neighborhood casino, and slightly enchanted roadside oasis. It's beautifully tacky in the most affectionate way possible. The red glass welcomes you like sunset. The casino hums like a mechanical forest. The hallways remember stories they refuse to tell. And somewhere between free electrons flowing into your EV, genuinely kind employees, and the hypnotic blinking of a thousand slot machines, you realize you've accidentally become... comfortable. I came expecting a convenient place to sleep. I left wondering why I already wanted to come back. Final Grade: A An A+, perhaps, is waiting for stronger Wi-Fi and a few table games. Until then, Western Village remains one of those rare places that's just quirky enough to feel memorable--and just warm enough to make you smile long after you've driven away.

We arrived around 11:30pm and there was a sweet girl who easily helped us check in, and marked up a map to give us precise directions to our room. The room itself was clean and very comfortable. The shower had amazing pressure and was spacious. The bathroom came with body wash, body lotion, shampoo, and conditioner. The AC worked well but was a little loud as it periodically turned off. We grabbed a very quick breakfast the next morning at their 24/7 diner, and it was actually so beautiful inside?! I was very impressed with the decor! Even at 8am, every employee we encountered was attentive, kind, and made our experience enjoyable. My fiancé literally just got 3 scrambled eggs and coffee to tide him over so there isn't a ton to report on the meal, but he was happy! There were 4 mini water bottles waiting for us in the room, a keurig machine with pod options, an ice machine near the elevator, and a filtered water refill station! Also a vending machine for purchasing items. Only knocking off a star because.. well.. it's not a 5 star hotel haha. The AC was a little loud at night, and we were bummed there were no table games for a quick blackjack game as the website does say "The Western Village Casino is a winning environment where you can play the best in slots, table games, and more". However, I don't think I've ever found a better bang for your buck hotel in my life.

In the morning, we waited over 30 minutes while valet staff searched for another guest's lost key. Later that same evening, we ended up experiencing the exact same thing ourselves. The valet staff lost our key and it took over 20 minutes for them to locate it. They did not think to hire more staff for the busy Memorial Day weekend and the basketball/volleyball/adult softball tournaments that were going on in the area. The night before we had to leave our car halfway in the street because valet was so backed up. The guest service manager told us to leave it half away in the street. The next day the same manager blamed the desk agent for losing our key when they did the same thing in the morning when she wasn't there. Unfortunately, this caused us to be late to a magic show we were attending at Grand Sierra Resort. I understand mistakes can happen, but seeing the same issue happen multiple times in one day shows a serious lack of organization and professionalism. Valet should make the experience smoother, not create unnecessary stress and delays.

With how many people come through those doors, the fact that he remembered me made this stay feel incredibly personal, like coming back to family. And then I walked into my room and found the cutest little towel puppy waiting on the bed. That moment right there, that's the kind of thoughtful, unexpected touch that turns a stay into a memory. It genuinely made me smile. The rooms are spotless. I'm very particular about cleanliness, especially bathrooms, and this one exceeded my standards. The room was okay--nothing special, but no major complaints. The Starbucks is always packed, which seems to be the norm here. Today, I visited the Second Street Marketplace downstairs. The young employee who assisted me had very poor customer service. He didn't acknowledge me, didn't offer a bag for the items I purchased, didn't say thank you, and seemed more interested in chatting with his coworkers than helping customers. Based on what I observed, I wasn't the only customer having issues with him. We also requested housekeeping service for our room. We were informed there would be a charge, which was fine with us. However, after the service, the room looked exactly the same. The bed was made, but that was about it. Now, let's talk about the restaurant downstairs. I ordered a steak, but they brought me chicken instead. I clearly told the waitress I wanted steak. When I pointed out the mistake, another older employee insisted that what I was served was steak. I'm pretty sure I know the difference between chicken and steak. Fortunately, Teddy stepped in, listened to my concern, apologized, and had my order corrected. That is what great customer service looks like. Even our waitress suggested that I just eat the chicken, but guests should never be told to accept something they didn't order. The casino and the room itself were good, and I enjoyed those aspects of my stay. However, many of the staff members could benefit from additional customer service training. To corporate, management, the CEO, owner, or whoever is responsible: please invest in better customer service training. Your guests deserve a better experience. #CustomerService #Management #Hospitality #GuestExperience
