Do not eat here. Managers will insult and harass customers. I have been coming here for a couple years now, but today the management went insane. The manager followed me out of the restaurant and attempted to take a picture of me after calling me a bitch. It is mediocre Indian food. The staff routinely overcharges you if you don't notice it and say something. They don't care about their reputation because they're in IV. The only way to get a place like this shut down is to not go, which given the lack of people eating there in general, doesn't seem like it will be too hard. read more

Not only does Naan Stop have AMAZING food, their staff is unbelievably kind and welcoming. Every single time I enter Naan Stop I know I'm going to be getting delicious Indian food and wonderful service. They are a small local business that deserves all the love! They have vegan and vegetarian items, so many different types of drinks and boba, and the portions are big enough I almost always have leftovers. I seriously can not recommend this place enough. Yelp has not updated the restaurants hours. They are now open from start 11:30 AM until 10:00 PM - there is no break in the middle. That was a smart move. The food was delicious but the service was so poor. I had found a hair in our food. My friend helped me approach the cashier lady and said I had found a hair. The lady took the bowl from us and grabbed the piece of a chicken with the hair on it out with a napkin. She proceeded to tell my friend that she didn't see a hair in the bowl and essentially called him a liar. If she didn't take the chicken out, the hair could've been seen point blank. After a few minutes of the cashier arguing that there wasn't a hair, she eventually gave us a new bowl. I wish I had taken a picture, but to be fair I wasn't planning on writing a bad review on hair in my food. The reason I'm writing this review is to highlight the poor service. We are paying customers and for us to approach them politely about hair in our food and to be accused of lying. This experience really left a bad impression of this restaurant. read more

I gave this a 4 star review because it's the only place in the Santa Barbara area where you can find Boba. I love those chewy little nuggets! haha. But I didn't try the food. I have an aversion to food that sits out in the open in warmers all day. Seems like a breeding ground for bacteria to me. So I'd rather leave that one alone. The workers are nice enough, but don't make you feel like your too special. This is probably typical of restaurants in a college town. So if I'm really in the mood for boba, I'll go back. Awesome spot. I had heard from many Indian friends that the best Indian restaurant was out in isla vista! When I happened to be near I checked it out for lunch. They had a great selection of curries in the lunch buffet. They had 4 chicken plus a bunch of vegetarian. I even tried the bob tea. The owner is really smart. He has small sample cups and will let you try each curry to see if you like it before you order. The best curry that I tried was the vindaloo which was really spicy. Give this place a try. read more

I had only previously had Naan stop's boba which was pretty cool, and then last month I finally tried their food. First of all, it's good, I guess, I mean it's pretty much the panda express of indian food, and sometimes you just get that panda-craving, but it's dick-breakingly expensive. but here's the real deal-breaker about why I would never order food here again: the guy(s) working there are just fucking assholes. I asked (rather politely I might add, I'm quite amiable towards my food vendors, believe it or not) if I could switch the naan that came with my meal to a garlic naan (i was very willing to pay for said upgrade too, I know how these things are) and the guy was like "NO the garlic naan has to be a side" and then went off on this rant about how college students only want garlic naan and not the regular shit. In any other feasible context (i.e. if I had been a previous customer, or if he would have actually conceded to the naan upgrade) it may have been funny or amusing, but as it was I was offended and embarrassed. Also the naan was brunt to shit and was awful. The chicken sides I had (tikka marsala and the coconut curry) were tasty but tiiiiiiny for being about $12 total. I asked for my receipt (something you have to ask for to get cuz they steal your money so much) and I noticed all the prices were wrong. I feel bad it took me this long to review Naan Stop...but I had some bad Indian Food in San Francisco recently, and it reminded me of how delicious Naan Stop is....and how much I miss it! For all you sophisticated folk who think making the trek from downtown SB to IV for Indian isn't worth it...you are quite mistaken. Naan stop is by far the best priced, best tasting, and best quality Indian you will get in SB without burning a hole in your pocket (but it may burn a whole in your pants a few hours subsequent to consumption). I literally despised the idea of indian food for my entire life until my roommates convinced me to try Naan Stop, so I did, and I haven't stopped since. Depending on who is working you can get hooked up with massive amounts of food. Although it's nice to have some leftovers for round two, you will definitely not leave this place hungry regardless of who's scooping the curry. I'm a creature of habit so I always order the same thing...which I highly recommend...naturally. If it's your first time and you want a little taste of everything, try the two item combo. I always order the chicken masala, chicken korma, and vegetable rice. Along with the combo comes a small side salad, a couple pieces of naan, and a soda. Unless prices have gone up...it all costs under $8. Seriously...any of you who are familiar with SB eats know that $8 will get you, at most, a happy hour beer and some peanuts at Madison's downtown. But at Naan stop, you get a meal and a snack for later! Another big item they are popular for is their boba tea, although I have never tried it. Considering the number of people I have observed order the boba when I have been attacking my meals in their dining quarters, I'd say it's pretty good. For the lighter eaters, you can order a bowl with one item over rice which is always a good snack for me...but the two item combo is where it's at if you have an appetite. Due to the popularity of this place, the food has always been fresh. I have never experienced a meal there that tasted like it had been sitting in the warming drawer all day. I have had indian food several times before, all in different locations, and I can honestly say this place is the worst. The Chana masala I ordered was watery and flavorless. I added red pepper from the condiment bar, and it was still terrible. The naan looks and taste like burnt pizza dough. It was not soft or fluffy in any way. I also had a vegetable samosa, which was ok. It was cold with ok flavor. I would definitely not come back here or recommend it to anyone looking for acceptable indian food. Mmmm. I love Naan Stop. They hook it up with big portions. I love when they pour the sauce over the rice. I was always ready to just stick my spoon in there and eat. I didn't care too much for the salad. I just wanted my chicken tikka masala with my naan to dip with, and whatever side vegetable, because they were all good. It was always enough to have for dinner later too. Sometimes I would get the vegetable samosa, and that would just really make my day. Ooh and hey it's the only place in IV that serves Boba. I had such a bad first experience here that i have not returned. First, the people working were incredibly rude and rushed to get me out of the line when I was the only one in the entire shop! Second, my meal was 10 dollars for cold Naan bread and luke warm tiki marsala...I ate it right outside in less then 1 minute and was still starving. The naan (wont) stop bouncing if you throw it at the ground. Not even close to worth the price compared to buffet at Taj (yum).
