    Shabu broth!
    Stella N.

The duck set is outstanding. The meat quality has been recently upgraded and I highly recommend highly recommend the wagyu. The marbling is fantastic! Huge fan of the kurobota pork as well, but I am more of a beef person. The chicken karaage is double fried, super crispy yet still light. Get the takoyaki!!!!! Best I've had in the city.

Nabe was exactly what I was looking for on a rainy cold SF night. We wanted shabu shabu and Nabe delivered. It also was great value from our perspective as there was almost too much food (including the porridge) by the end. The beef quality of the sukiyaki set was very good and we also enjoyed the duck set as well. We'll be back to try more broths! We went at 5:30pm on a Sunday and the restaurant quickly filled up by 6pm

Nabe was decent. I really liked the vibes and I am a little biased because I was on a high of being with my friends. The food was pretty good, but it felt like a combo of boiling point and one pot. I think it is worth to try once, but it is more expensive than the other two and lowker one pot is worth more.

Finally got around to trying Nabe after always passing by! I got the shabu shabu, chicken kaarage and a side of the kurobata pork. I feel like they give you a hefty portion of food, which included a plate of meat, vegetables, udon, rice and an optional rice porridge afterwards. I think you can share one portion between two people if you have a lighter appetite. You can definitely leave here with some leftovers too. The kaarage was decent, a little overcooked but I liked the mayo sauce it came with. Service was good and I like how the server makes the porridge for you!

This is a solid option for hot pot, and is a bit different from a traditional Chinese hot pot. Each person can order a separate set, which comes with a meat, vegetables, and a broth. I ordered the Shabu Shabu with spicy miso and Kurobuta pork. The dish was not spicy at all, but it was still flavorful. The pork was perfectly sliced and cooked well in the broth, and the vegetables and mushrooms were all fresh and added a nice texture. The garlic sauce really helped bring out the flavor in the meat, but I do wish there were some more sauce/dipping options along with the set. We also had the salted edamame, which was great, and a bottle of sake which was good. The space gets a bit steamy and the service was on the slower side, but not bad.

I'm not usually a fan of Shabu Shabu, being a hot pot snob, but I was pleasantly surprised! There's a variety of soup bases to choose from, as well as the option to do a split pot so you can try out different soup bases if you want! The veggies tasted fresh and went well with the soup base. The meat options are plenty but it was all super tender and yummy! The service was spot on and they were constantly checking on us and making sure that we had whatever we needed.

I've never been to this place before and was tempted to try this because I heard they make porridge from your soup base! Anyways, we went here on a Saturday around 5pm and there was no wait! We ordered the Miyazaki A5 Ribeye, Wagyu Beef, Takoyaki, Rice, and the Shabu Shabu in Miso Broth. We upgraded our meat selection which was why we were able to get items like the Miyazaki A5 Ribeye. Overall, I felt the meat quality was good, but way too pricey for the little amount of food you get. Their meats are so tender and basically felt like it melted in my mouth! They have appetizers too, so I got the takoyaki. I liked how crispy the takoyaki is on the outside. Also, once you're done enjoying your hot pot, they'll turn your broth into a porridge, which I thought that was so cool!

This is a great spot to get your hit pot fix! The serving sizes were pretty good, the flavors were on point and ingredients were very fresh. Service was good too on a slow night. Definitely would come back to this cute spot!

They add rice to the leftovers at the end and make a fantastic also risotto like texture porridge so make sure you leave room!

What an absolute gem in the inner sunset! Nabe is a Japanese style hot pot place - which means that the broths here tend to be waaaaayyyy less spicy than anything you would see at a chinese hot pot place. We got the spicy miso broth for the shabu shabu combo and even that was like, the equivalent of a light brush on the cheek in terms of spice, but the flavor was sooo good. We also got the sukiyaki and it came already in half of the pot - and it was delish. You do I think, have to eat it a little more quickly when the veg is already in the pot (or turn down the heat) so your food doesn't get boiled to death. Why you should eat here though: after you finish all your meat and veg, you get the option to add rice to your leftover soup and they come mix up some porridge for you that is so creamy (thanks to the egg they mix in), so make sure you leave space. I don't think a ton of places do that, so it makes Nabe kind of special. While the food here is not AYCE, I thought the base combo gave you a decent amount of food and you have the option to order add ons. The meat was more generous than I expected. Like if you've ever been to mumu hot pot it's similar if not more in portion. We got the duck add on and I expected like, maybe 5 extra pieces but no! The whole platter worth of duck! If you like duck - theirs was soooooo freaking good, probably my favorite. We also got the A5 miyazaki wagyu add on and damn, was that TENDER. The inside of the restaurant was nice - though things definitely got steamy and warm from all the pots going. Service was pretty good too - I really appreciate that they let my friend and I sit and talk for awhile (the restaurant was not super busy on the Thursday evening we went). And the guy who was our server was super friendly. I can't wait to go back and get the duck nabe lol.

I nearly missed the entrance due to the glass doors and walls that were fogging up inside from the hotpot. On a weekend evening, our group of four was seated immediately, and they had a modern QR code where we could order. We ordered two Nabemono sets: the Ishikari Nabe and Shabu Shabu. We also ordered chicken karaage. Both broths were delicious, but my favorite was the Ishikari Nabe set for its aesthetic display of salmon and veggies and buttery broth. The chicken karaage was quite crunchy and darker in color than expected. At the end, we also enjoyed the unique rice porridge that they made using our leftover broth, rice, an egg, onion, and seaweed flakes on top. I would love to introduce my friends to come here for hot pot on a cold day in SF!

I ordered the Ishikari Nabe set and my mom ordered the Seafood Yosenabe set. They came in the same pot, which had a separator in the middle. There was only 1 burner in the middle of the table. Each person got their own small bowl of pre-mixed sauce for the meats, as well as a bowl of rice. There was a jug of water on the table for us to pour into our cups. There's a single stall restroom in the restaurant. Pros: I liked the butter miso broth and pork belly in the Ishikari Nabe set. While it wasn't AYCE, the portion was more than enough for me (even before the porridge). It's unique that they add rice into one of the broths (only one broth per table it seems) at the end to create porridge, which helps use up the broth. And since it's not AYCE, we were able to take leftovers home. I kind of wish we each got our own pot, but the single pot in the middle did allow us to more easily share our food. Cons: I wish there was more meat given in each set - it was mainly veggies. I noticed that some other folks had their ingredients served on a plate, while ours was already all in the soup. I wish we got them on a plate so that we could control how much to cook at once. I noticed that others got their food quickly, while we waited over 10 min for some reason... It was way too hot inside and I was sweating. Verdict: The quality was decent but I don't think I'd come back to this place. At ~$30 per hot pot set, I'd prefer an AYCE place where you can customize the ingredients.

You know the drill, when the season gets colder you break out the hot pot and get warm and toasty. My friends and I were in the area after attending a free concert at Golden Gate Park and wanted something warm to heat us up. Nabe was one of the first options after Yelping "hot pot" so my friend made a reservation for same day and we were seated promptly on arrival. Parking can be hit or miss especially off Irving St. so just a heads up there. The menu is relatively simple - you choose the base you want and it'll come with a standard set of items. I opted for their sukiyaki broth with beef and that came with some veggies, mushrooms, and noodles. The thing about Nabe is that it's not AYCE so you're paying for a set meal and you can opt for a bowl of rice, as well. I was worried there wouldn't be enough food to make us full, but between the gyoza and takoyaki appetizer, the set meal was enough for each of us to get to full without feeling the gross "I overate" feeling that you'd get at AYCE places. At the end of the meal, they also give you the option of turning one of your leftover broths into a porridge which seems like a fun idea, but only if you're okay eating your friend's leftover (whichever broth you choose to use). Overall, it's a bit pricey compared to some AYCE hot pot places, however, it was a good experience with friends and I did appreciate their attentive service.

This review is for the takeout experience. We ordered Meal Pack A on the Uber Eats menu, which comes with two sets of meat and soup, along with garlic soy edamame, kurobota pork sausage, and two servings of butter mochi cake. The packaging for all of the items was fantastic. Everything was labeled clearly and the butter mochi cake even had handwritten detailed instructions on how to reheat the cake. This was more than enough food for 2 people and too much for us to finish. We ordered the sukiyaki with beef and the shabu shabu with beef and spicy miso. The meat was great quality and really tender, and there was a huge assortment of veggies. It also came with noodles for both the sets. One thing to note is that the meats and veggies were all raw, and we put everything in small pots to heat up and eat once we got home. Not the most convenient for those who are trying to get something to grab and go, but no issue for us. I hope to come here again to dine in - the inside of the restaurant looked pretty intimate and the waiters were really nice.

While everything was well presented, the flavors were fairly average and didn't stand out. The chicken katsu was a bit dry, and overall we expected more given the restaurant's reputation. Nothing was bad, but nothing really wowed us either. We made a reservation and ate quite quickly but we felt a bit rushed towards the end (understanding they probably needed our table). I'd still recommend visiting for the ambiance, but I was surprised that the food didn't quite live up to the beautiful setting.

This cozy spot mainly focuses on katsu plates, but I like how they had off menu or specials to choose from if you'd like another option. I will say though them katsu plates were just chef's kiss. The meat is pounded thin enough where it's still juicy and tender, but doesn't affect the exterior from being crunchy and a bit flaky. Nothing was dry here yallll! I also like how it already comes with miso soup and salad. Huge fan of that Hamachi Truffle special though. Think of a citrusy flavor from the ponzu, fresh fish, a bit of micro greens, and a thin slice of jalapeño that just ~works~ on a cute wooden spoon that you want to steal I could honestly eat like 5 spoons of this. I'd skip on the calamari as it was kind of skimpy to share with a large group. Only note was that their fried katsu curry was a bit underwhelming with having more slices of carrots than potato! My only suggestion is to ask for the curry on the side if you like your katsu extra crispy. I had the curry poured over it, and the breading got soggy pretty quickly. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is the price. Courses: - Chawan-mushi - super tasty and every bite was delicious and umami forward! - Otsumami - 7 seasonal appetizers presented in a beautiful box, there was a stuffed crab claw in there that was delicious - 4 kinds of sushi - each piece came out one at a time, the first piece was my absolute favorite and blew me away, it was a seared chutoro that immediately melts in your mouth and tastes smokey - Hamachi soup - very tasty and warming soup with hamachi inside, was perfect in between the sushi course - 4 kinds of sushi - A5 Waguyu shabu - this course was extra $10 pp but was so delicious, the wagyu was melt in your mouth and had some grated daikon on top in a ponzu dashi, the toppings help balance the meat so it's overwhelming since it does melt in your mouth, one of my favorite bites! - 4 kind of sushi - they brought out some really great sushis, including more chutoro and an unagi handroll, but I was so stuffed at this point that I felt I couldn't enjoy it as much - miso soup - this soup was so tasty and kind of revived me after all that food, it felt comforting and a great way to end - dessert- I got the hojicha ice cream in a waffle like cookie and it was delicious!

Decor is minimal. Menus are scanned using the QR code at the table. Service is excellent! We were approached/reminded that our reservation was for 1.5 hours but the party after us wasn't arriving until later so we can extend our stay for another half hour. That was very nice of them to let us know. We started with cocktails. Beautiful glassware. They may look delicate but these drinks are strong! Very delicious though. We ordered: KABOSU - like an elevated spicy clarified margarita with Thai flavors. Not too spicy. It just adds a kick. This cocktail paired well with what we ordered for dinner. KOHAKU - like a matcha whiskey cocktail SHOJI MARTINI - dry and made with Japanese gin For dinner, we ordered: FRENCH FRIES with Akazu aged vinegar aioli, tobiko - the fries were dusted with Thai seasoning which were flavorful eaten as is but when dipped in the aioli, whoa!!! The tobiko added the right amount of balance to the tang of the aioli. Next level!! OYSTER - the dressing was good. A little on the sweet side. PORK JOWL - tender and so flavorful. I wish it came with rice. The pear and pineapple kimchi was the perfect side. CEVICHE - fish was fresh and the flavors were well-balanced. Loved the giant pieces of nori rice crackers. SHOJI BURGER - this was a nice show at the table. The fondue cheese was yummy. The burger was well-seasoned. Good for sharing. For dessert, we had: HOJICHA AFFOGATO - Beautiful, delicate and delicious dessert that was fun to watch prepared at our table. Lovely experience. Thank you for the great service. The staff was kind and professional. Well done.

The donburi with Ikura and Uni was creamy and melted in my mouth at each bite. The wings were great too. The hojicha affogato desert was spectacular. I would go back! Amazing vibes and great service.

It's an adorable little spot in the sunset and there is limited seating, of course, but there is open seating by the window where you can get a lot of sunlight or you go deeper in toward the restaurant where you can get a little bit more of a dim perspective, which is fine. Right away, they asked if we had a reservation we did not the place was almost packed, but they had one table in the very back that they opened up just for us. That right there earned my five stars. The service was absolutely incredible. I found it to be really sweet. The Man was talking to me and I didn't understand what he was saying and he was so patient with me. I was very appreciative. They were extremely accommodating at first I wasn't sure if my girls were going to eat so I didn't order for them and then it turned out. They were going to eat so I ended up adding their order on. Again the service was amazing. Not to mention... $33 for adults $20 for kids over six years unlimited sushi on a weekend. What do you even mean? I was blown away. The quality of the sushi was incredible. I've had all you can eat sushi before and I was not super impressed by the quality, but this place hits different. Not to mention that all you can eat menu include some appetizer, including miso soup which we had plenty of. I am so grateful that I got to eat here and I will 100% be coming back. Also, the people here were super chill and very friendly. This neighborhood is just so friendly. I love this neighborhood in San Francisco.

IT'S ONLY ALL YOU CAN EAT BETWEEN 11:00 AM & 4:00 PM. That was on us, so we decided to stay and give the restaurant a fair chance anyway. We were seated near the front door and ordered two bento boxes (beef and salmon), a tempura roll, a California roll, and a tekka don. First impressions: * No tempura dipping sauce. * The tempura looked and tasted premade. * The salmon was over-seasoned. * The California roll was mushy. The rest of our group was also unhappy with their dishes. My friend never received wasabi with their sushi, and it took nearly the entire meal before I could get the attention of our server. Later, we ran out of tea. I took the lid off the teapot and placed it on the table to make it obvious we needed a refill. This time, I actually timed how long it took for anyone to notice. OVER 10 MINUTES. By then, we were pretty upset and just ready to leave. To make matters worse, we weren't given any choice in the tip. PARTIES OVER 3 HAVE A MANDATORY 18% TIP. I had actually considered coming back another day for the AYCE lunch since I work in the area, but after this experience, I won't be returning. Consider this a heads up

There are some omakase staples that we always look forward to: the shokupan and chawanmushi especially. We also love seeing what is in season, and I have seen the menu change weekly. In the dozen or so times I have gone, I have never been disappointed in the quality or quantity. I agree with other reviews that the taste is more fusion/experimental than straight traditional omakase. For me, that is part of the draw. I also agree that Akiko's is pricier, but we also go for special occasions rather than a standing weekly or monthly reservation. Parking can be tricky in the area, but there are apps that can help with that.

We noted our dietary restrictions on the reservation and the host confirmed that but the menus aren't customized for each guest (which I'd expect for a high end omakase with less than 10 guests during our seating). Then the first server showed up and started describing the opening course of 3 small plates, 2 of which contained shellfish. When we asked about it, he just backtracked and said "That's not lobster" and then walked away. We were also never asked what we would like to drink - I finally asked the sushi chef for tea and he ran to the back to communicate that. There was also no real interaction with the sushi chef the entire meal so it felt impersonal and sterile. Food notes: maybe the selection was just not for me that day but there was only 1 course I enjoyed (kinmedai) and by the end I was eating a bite and leaving the rest and dreading the next course. The fish flavors felt very strong and overwhelming and the sushi rice was so wet that every piece fell apart on the way from the plate to the mouth.
