I've been living in the bay area for a few years and while Vietnamese food is solid in SF, there was nothing that blew me out of the water. Oakland I was sold on but I hadn't found a spot in San Francisco that I could definitively say was phenomenal (Admittedly, I still need to check out the spots in the Tenderloin) That was until I found this place. I can confidently say that Yummy Yummy has the best pho I've found in San Francisco to date. I found this place by coincidence after moving to the inner sunset. The Inner Sunset is a hub for great Vietnamese food but Yummy Yummy was a name that was thrown around in the conversation as one of the better places to get pho. And it does not dissapoint. Since finding it, my girlfriend and I have been here numerous times and it has been awesome every time. I've so far tried several noodle soup dishes (Pho, Bun Bo hue, peanut noodles soup, mi hoahn thahn) and everything has been great. Their appetizers and non soup based food are also excellent. They also have an extensive vegetarian menu which many places do not. On top of the quality food, service here is exceptional and friendly. So glad I can finally say I have a favorite pho spot in SF. I haven't been to Yummy Yummy since 2010, but it was excellent then and it's excellent now. They don't do "off the menu special chicken wings" any more, but the ones in fish sauce with grilled onions are possibly quite similar. Had the Five Spice Chicken as an entree, the Shrimp in Coconut Sauce, and the crispy egg noodles with beef and veggies. And plentiful. Most entrees are at least $22, but the quantity is big. I know from past experience that the crab dishes are great. I don't know why they were shut down for a while a few years back, but I'm glad they're back. Servers were friendly and helpful. The clams were huge!! Perfectly cooked and seasoned. The banh khot was crispy and delicious! I didn't try the carpaccio. I got the bun bo hue and it was good! It wasn't the best I've tasted but it was really good. The broth is red and flavorful. I changed my noodles to pho noodles and they give you a ton!! The meat was a little tough. Nothing like a bowl of pho on a cold day. I've been here plenty of times before with my family, but since moving I haven't had a lot of opportunities to come here. So when my friend asked to meet up for a bowl of pho halfway between our locations, I knew the exact place. We stopped by shortly after 12pm on a friday. It was pretty hard to find parking that was free... and there are metered spots but also a little hard to get. We opted to park by Golden Gate Park that had free 3-4 hour street parking. We were pretty lucky when we got seated because we took one of the last two tables. My friend ordered the #10 Bun Rieu ($17.95) and #1 Pho Xe Lua ($18.95). The bowls came out quick and steaming hot. One of the best places for pho and honestly anything on their menu. The bowls were loaded, the service was welcoming and quick and there were plenty of options to choose from. You know what they say about pho, if you don't end up drinking a ton of water afterwards it was a good bowl of pho. So, stop by for a bowl and you won't regret it! read more

The owners are a really sweet Vietnamese couple who, on a very busy Friday evening in Inner Sunset, accommodated my last minute reservation for 12 people -- And were so kind and gracious! Would probably give this 3.5 if I could -- I haven't been back here since discovering Saigon BBQ noodle house, but I did quite enjoy their bún bò huế here for awhile. It has huyết, chả, and all the necessary toppings. Also was nicely spiced, though maybe heavier on the mắm than other BBH I've had -- so expect a more fishy umami. We were craving crab one day and remembered that Yummy Yummy had a few crab options on their menu. Decided to go and try it out. OMG. It was so delicious. We got the house special salt and pepper flavor (recommended by the staff). There was an option to include noodles as well, so of course we got noodles. The crab was huge and very meaty. A lot of the shells were pre-cracked to make it easier for us to eat. The sauce/flavoring complemented the crab meat and the noodles so so well. My friend and I sat in silence for 20 minutes just to focus on devouring the whole dish. The staff were friendly and cracked jokes with us about how much we were enjoying the crab. i came here with my family, so it was a large party, and the staff were really kind and accommodating. they helped with my mom's wheelchair, a booster seat for a toddler, and even adjusted dishes to our preferences, which made the experience feel really thoughtful. i ordered the bun bo hue and asked for it on the mild side. they adjusted it for me, which i appreciated, but just a heads up it's still on the spicier side if your tolerance is low like mine. my sister had the bun rieu, and between the two of us we felt like both noodle soups weren't as good compared to other places. i would recommend the pho instead since my mom's #1 pho was delicious and something i'd get next time. the portions are generous, and everything came out flavorful overall. i also noticed a lot of people ordering the wraps for spring rolls, so i wish i had tried those as well. i did get the three color drink, che ba mau, but it didn't taste that fresh to me. the ambiance is nothing special, but in a cozy way. they had a football game playing in the background, which made it feel casual and comfortable. overall, it was a good dining experience with welcoming staff, tasty pho, and big portions. read more

We celebrated our mom's birthday here with a party of 21. They don't take reservations, but we called a few days ahead and made arrangements. They pushed tables together to make 2 long tables for us. It was a busy Saturday evening, and the place was packed, but the service was still excellent. The owner, Wilson, ran the place with efficiency and humor. They allowed us to bring our own cake, and even provided us with plates. Even though we didn't order ahead of time, our food came out quickly. We ordered family style and picked many dishes to share. Every dish was delicious and flavorful. Most (if not all) of the dishes came with a dipping sauce that you can add as much or little as you like. Highlights of what we ordered: + Imperial rolls (6) - crispy and delicious. They are about 1/2 the size of Chinese egg rolls + Spring rolls (6) - fresh with plump shrimps + Fried chicken wings - crispy and nicely seasoned, juicy + Cabbage slaw with mint, shrimps, nuts, and shrimp chips - very refreshing - highly recommend as a starter + Chow fun (wet) - they ran out of wide rice noodles, so we got egg noodles. This is topped with crispy bok choy and shrimp in a sauce. Very yummy + Combo fried noodles - you choose your noodle, so we got rice noodles. One of my favorite dishes of the evening. The combo includes long shreds of chicken, cha lua (I think), egg, and onions. + Fried rice with egg on top - another favorite. The rice was a little reddish, and I think it's tomato. Delicious Vietnamese food! I came on a weekday night for dinner and was seated immediately for a party of 2. Service was pretty quick throughout the entire meal, and prices are fair. The menu is decently extensive, but I opted for pho tai since it's my go to Vietnamese dish. Portions were generous, and it was a good bowl of noodles. I wouldn't say it was mind blowing or stood out from other phos I've tried but definitely solid. We also got the garlic chicken wings to share, and those were yummy! When there's so many pho spots on Irving st it can be tough to pick one out. However if you're looking for premium pho, and amazing bun rieu do give Yummy Yummy a visit. It's a bit pricier than Kevin's or PPQ but it's well worth it if your elooming to rest yourself. After a long jog on a cold day, one sip of the pho brought my spirits back to life. The soup is delicious and the portions are quite generous as well. My friend and I also ordered the fish cakes as an appetizer, it came with mint, lettuce and fish sauce. I've never been treated with such nice service before. As for the food, amazing! No complaints. We got pho, clams, bahn khot, and the rib plate. Parking does suck though. I circled many times and ended up parking at some grocery store across from a school that had 1 hr parking signs. Yum this place has a solid menu and variety of offerings. Whether you're craving a bowl of pho, vermicelli, or rice plate they have you covered! First off the place was absolutely packed on a Sunday night so make sure you put your name down. The staff is very pleasant and made sure to check on us throughout the meal. One person from our party accidentally dropped her to go order and the staff rushed over to help and offer a new box or bag. We started with the fish cakes and imperial rolls which are always a hit. The fish cakes were bouncy and thick. While the imperial rolls were crispy perfection. I ordered the bun rieu which had a solid broth. It came with fried tofu and the classic crab meatballs. However their flavor leaned heavily into the sweet side which was something I was unfamiliar with. Sweet but still tasty none the least! My one qualm is I had wished there was more noodles. My parents wanted to come here for the Dungeness Crab which they're locally known for alongside authentic Vietnamese food. The Pho, Banh Xeo, Banh Mi, Com Bo Xa Ot all received high praise from our family for the large portions, fresh ingredients and authentic flavors. My go-to dishes: Pho: The pho broth is rich and flavorful, and the noodles are cooked to perfection. Spring Rolls: The spring rolls are crispy and fresh, with a variety of delicious fillings. Cha Gio: This deep-fried egg roll is a classic Vietnamese dish and is definitely worth trying. Vietnamese Coffee: The Vietnamese coffee is strong and flavorful, and the perfect way to end your meal. The restaurant clean and well maintained but it is not very large and can get crowded, especially during peak hours. Okay, I'm gonna say it! I'm gonna say it! Yummy Yummy is my favorite restaurant in the city - NAY - the Bay Area. I have come to this revelation during my latest visit here. I think the food is great, some would say its good. But what excels the amazing food and vast menu is the STAFF. Everyone is so friendly, accommodating, and just attentive! You may be saying "Naomi, there's plenty of nice restaurant staff in SF" UM SURE but not to this level. My grandparents can be very specific on what they can and cannot eat (no spiciness, cook the meat all the way - which I know is unheard of in pho and it cooks in the broth but listen, they like it their way) and where they like to sit (not near the door bc its cold). I have never heard a complaint from a staff member or even the word "no" (although we aren't asking for super high-in-demand things). I have been to a few high quality restaurants but even their staff is not as friendly or accommodating as Yummy Yummy. This is the only place that will get me to eat my carrots and cucumbers. I bought fish sauce because I thought: I can make this sauce too (i cannot i was dumb for thinking that). Here's what I will say before I get into the actual review part: there is nothing better than a bowl of noodles surrounded by family. And when you're at Yummy Yummy, you're part of the family. We came on a Friday night and it was busy at 6! We had called two hours before to make reservations and they were able to get our party of four down. I ordered, of course, my vermicelli, this time with pork. The egg rolls are on the pricier side being so small but they use the rice paper roll and fry it which is what I like. Their bun is very good. The decor was your typical Vietnamese restaurant with very chill vibes. I love trying BBH or Bun rieu from different viet places so naturally I ordered the bun rieu. The bun rieu here was good, definitely more on the sweeter side. It does get a bit too sweet when you reach the end so make sure to add some lemon when you eat it.
