Back in my day, more places gave you free tea. What happened? Luckily, QingShu still does!! I'm disappointed by some of the meh Yelp reviews. I hope my experience was better because QingShu adapted and got better, because I really enjoyed it! I came here with a tennis friend who has been here a few times with the tennis team, so she raved about it. It was kinda hard to get parking here on a Sunday night, but we got it! They had quite a few solo diners and a steady stream of customers on a cold, blustery Sunday night. It's not the cleanest place and it is certainly no frills, but I devoured my personal hot pot bowl! You walk in, pick up a bowl, and add your toppings. I thought their selection of meats and vegetables was very good. You pay based on weight, not item, so I loaded up on shrimp, enoki mushrooms, fish balls, and wood ear mushrooms. The spicy broth was delicious and hearty, with good complex and vibrant flavors. The spice was not overwhelming and complemented the protein and vegetables. I of course enjoyed making my sauce with their cilantro. This would be great for families--kids would love to make their own sauces and bowls! I was able to keep my meal below $18 and still go home with some leftovers! I tried so hard to not overdo my bowl and then be surprised by the price. Service was meh but didn't matter--I was a happy customer. Will be back.

I stopped by Qingshu with some friends over the weekend and tried their Tasty Mushroom broth along with various ingredients, including their lamb, beef, and udon noodles. The broth was rich, earthy, and was generally a good base for all the meats and noodles. The lamb and beef were tender and flavorful, and the udon noodles held up nicely without being too mushy. Overall, the dish was comforting and delicious. The place could be cleaner in my opinion, but the food made up for it.

Service is kind and quick. Place has many seating and outside seating but has storage next to it. The selection is ok, but some meat started to brown on the sides. Some looked like it's been there for a while or not too fresh. I saw a piece of hair on the mushroom. I forgot to take a pic. However, the broths pretty good. Good sauce selection but the lids looked dirty or had crust on the surroundings.

Solid place to get a heaping bowl of piping hot soup with all your favorite ingredients on a cold day in the Sunset! price: ~$15/person - Snakehead Fish Soup: One of the recommended Nai Brothers soup offerings. At $20 for a small bowl, this was actually enormous and shareable between two people. It comes with pieces of white fish, cabbage, konjac noodles, and bean curd. Also comes with a bowl of rice, and pairs well with spices from the sauce station. - Malatang: The ingredients were definitely slightly more limited than other places I've been to, but the broth selection is extensive. I liked the szechuan broth, which doesn't taste overly oily and also isn't unbearably spicy. This place also offers self-serve hot tea and lemon passion fruit juice!

QingShu is located on Irving & 9th w/ street parking. It's a Chinese restaurant that specializes in dry hot pot - similar to Tang Bar if you've been to Stonestown. There isn't table service, as you just grab a basket, pick out your ingredients, then weigh it at the cashier and let them know if you want stir-fry or with a broth. They also have a self-serve drink station with ice maker, hot jasmine tea, water, and lemon passionfruit tea. I love the options! There is limited selection at the refrigeration area - if you like variety, I would not recommend this spot. They do however have your basics but the only meat I remember is one type of beef & pork. I got the Sichuan classic broth which was kinda spicy. I found my beef still a little tough and not cooked all the way. The broth here don't have as much flavor as I prefer.

The kind lady cooked me a giant bowl of kimchi beef rice noodles soup for 15.99 with so much juicy meat and ingredients I was so hungry and craving soup, her cooking makes me so satisfied the taste photo you see is after I was eating for ten minutes.... It is honestly a better deal then picking the ingredients yourself

I really enjoyed the food, I got a spicy Sichuan base with some vegetables, rice noodles, ramen, and sliced pork. At first the only "complaint" I initially had was being so full from eating some healing food. But the thing that makes this a 1 star review is that I got sick right after. Not the usual sickness from spice, but a really terrible sickness where I was feeling all the symptoms of a quote on quote food poisoning. I should've known the signs from the meat being displayed with the lack of refrigeration. Choose at your own risk!

Fresh food. Cooked to order. Tomato soup base is not vegan but really tasty as it has a pork broth taste and not just tomatoes and water. Service is fast and no wait. The atmosphere is very utilitarian with to go set up and seems a little too much inventory in window kitchen. Not really a place for a date but plenty of veggies and meats to get a warm hardy bowl of soup. First time eating ma la style so I over filled my basket and could not finish all of the food. Had a whole container for lunch the next day!

This is hands down my favorite spot for Malatang in San Francisco. They've got tons of options, and the broth choices are amazing. I'm hooked on the Sichuan spicy broth -- super flavorful and seriously satisfying. Just a tip: if you don't eat a lot of spicy food, check with the staff before ordering because it can get pretty hot. But if you love spice, this is the place to go. Ordering is easy, the selection of meats and veggies is huge, and it's perfect for nights when I don't feel like cooking. The staff are always friendly, the vibe is calm and relaxed, and the prices are very reasonable. In a busy city like San Francisco, it's rare to find somewhere that's both quiet and delicious -- this place checks all the boxes.

The place is clean, and the service is friendly and efficient .The ingredients are super fresh, from tender slices of meat to fresh vegetables, tofu, and even kelp knots, every bite was satisfying and well-balanced. The noodles soaked up the broth beautifully, making the whole bowl incredibly comforting. The portion size is generous, and the price is very reasonable for the quality .This is definitely the place to go. Highly recommend!

There was a fair variety of ingredient selection, but the meats and vegetables were not very fresh. I tried the new coconut chicken soup base. Unfortunately it tasted like the ordinary salted soup base. The spicy soup base was decent. The lamb skewer was fried and had a sweet coating. You can mix your own sauces on the side and get your own drink of tea or water. You would grab a table after ordering. The restaurant was fairly empty on a Saturday night so there were plenty of seatings available.

It's okay but everything is pretty average, from the taste to the ambiance. This is a self-serve hot pot / malatang place with a lot of seating. I came by myself after I got desperately hungry in the area and got a tomato soup base self-serve hot pot bowl, adding in meat and veggies. There's not a huge selection but the quality of meat / seafood definitely looked suspect (I only got the former, and when cooked, meat was on the tougher side). The soup base is not flavorful. Service was fast when I went since no one else was in the shop. Tang Bar is definitely a big step above QingShu, and this doesn't come close to the quality of a malatang/hot pot in Asia - but it's fine for a quick meal option.

Dry pot for delivery is superb

Found my new go to spot to get dry pot takeout. I was able to customize my order and it came quickly in a huge box (with another small one with even more food that probably didn't fit in the first). Loved the dry seasonings, ramen, sliced beef and lamb and the quail eggs.

Am I able to take my leftovers home with me in a to go container when I eat in, at the restaurant?

Hi . Yes. We can provide free to go container.

Does this place have outdoor seating during covid?

I dont think so. Have driven by a few times and it was closed. They had takeout for a while though. These things change as the city authorizes more parklets. Send them an email

Which broths do NOT contain any pork ingredients? I've heard different answers from different workers.

Hi Jennifer Thanks for you support.…

Are there vegan soup base options? If so, which ones?

Tasty mushroom flavor. Or you can mention vegan with tomato soup base

Is the kimchi broth vegan or veggie? Thanks

    It's not .

This most recent time my girlfriend was craving ramen but I wasn't so I got creative. I love their black pepper chicken, so I got that and asked for a side of rice. On top of that we got the ribeye skewers and their new snow crab hand roll. The sauce for the black pepper chicken was really really tasty. That sauce over the rice, was so comforting. The ribeye wasn't super tender but tasty. The snow crab hand roll came with so much snow crab, I felt like it's one of the few hand rolls I've had that was filling. If you come for happy hour, they have good deals on ramen. I think like $13ish, which is a great deal. It ends promptly at 5:30, so plan to get there well before 5:30 if you are looking to take advantage. Something to think about it, Theres no sign up list for waiting for tables, and everyone who's waiting just lines up outside and down the block (no waiting inside). While the ramen (especially their Niku ramen) is still a solid choice. Piecing together meal with some appetizers and a side of rice might be my go-to way of ordering here now. Taniku really does do a lot of things well and the food is always tasty.

We started off with the Mekyabetsu (Brussels sprouts), Ba-Ra (pork belly), and Kobe (beef). The Brussels sprouts were my fav starter, and the sauce paired so well with it. The Ba-Ra was pretty good, but nothing amazing, and same for the Kobe, which I found to be a bit bland. We also split the Hokkaido Miso ramen. The broth had a great flavor, and the pork chashu was possibly the best I've ever had(!) as it was soooo tender and flavorful, and not very fatty. I did think the cauliflower left room to be desired, and kinda took away from the ramen overall. We finished our meal off with the matcha Panna cotta - this was a great dessert and wasn't too sweet ;) This place definitely seems to be pretty good at a lot of dishes, but not amazing at any single one. The vibe is great, service was great, and prices are a biiiiti steep but not unreasonable.

It was just so good and flavorful. The soup dumplings were amazing. So much perfect flavor. They held together until the bite. So good. The hot and sour soup was plenty tasty. Not the best I've ever had but certainly among the best. The only thing I will say is that one of my companions can't have seaweed. The wonton soup was amazing but full of seaweed.
