What a gem of a find! Thank you fellow Yelpers for chiming in and coming through! Sweet neighborhood self serve ramen/udon/noodle place where you make your soup exactly the way you want it! You pick out what you want in a salad bar style that you place in a bowl for your soup that gets weigh d at the end. Many options to pick out--greens, variety of tofu variations, land and sea protein options. Adore! Restaurant is spacious, clean, and relaxed vibe. When ordering bowl goes on weight and at the counter you choose between options in broths then level of spice. My kids had the pork bone broth while I got the fan favorite according the lovely woman at the counter -- pork bone broth with black garlic (yum)! Nice little condiments bar too that's self serve -- chopped cilantro and green onions galore and squares. Pro! Tea is free! Definitely worth trying and hopefully returning!
Service was amazing and the worker was kind. Complementary tea and the sauce rack was simple and clean. The options were great and were all fresh.
Their presentation of Malatang is different! Definitely they have lesser selection of ingredients but we had our essentials. The medium level on dry pot was very mild to me. Service was sweet! I wish they had bigger sauce section too.
I decided to go to this place after being hungry and stumbling upon it and passing it a lot. I am not the biggest hot pan fan but this place may change me. It has tons of fresh ingredients that you pick out both vegetables and meat. You can do all veggies if you want. All the ingredients that you choose are well cooked and have a good texture and the broth is flavorful. The service is fantastic with a beyond kind person asking and helping if this is your first time. The price is reasonable for SF. The area is big for seating so you can come alone or with a group. Come here if you want a personal hot pot.
Pork broth with black garlic: 5/5 yummy!!! Presence of black garlic is definitely there lol but I love it. No complaints. Hit the spot. Spice level- mild and medium not that spicy Vegetables: very fresh and neatly organized Protein: beef, lamb, fish, calamari Staff: one guy with Nike high tops manning the front. He is so so nice and helpful to all who walk in. Such an easy place to eat at. Simple. Flavorful broth. Clean. Kind workers. And very reasonable price. Paid $40 for two people with a drink and a well balanced bowl.
Smaller malatang place but still a good variety of things to add. Pork Bone Broth was fantastic. A few of my rice cakes were hard and felt uncooked though. I don't know if those were more frozen or what. $15.99 / lb means you could go overboard quick lol. Fun malatang experience for my first time. Not dissimilar to hot pot.
Was craving malatang and wanted to try this place out. They don't have as many options but the quality looked fresh! I tried their pork bone broth w/ black garlic + medium spicy. I would say it wasn't spicy at all, which was a little disappointing. The pork bone broth flavor was good though! It's pretty casual but a good malatang place in the area if you're craving it!
Stumbled upon this gym while scurrying the streets of SF on a Saturday night. The restaurant is decently large with options for self seating. The food was good, with ok variety. The broth tasted very instant ramen-esque but it is passable. Sauce options are a bit limited as well. But I do want to highlight the amazing staff. The accommodations and customer service surpassed all expectations. They truly made you feel welcomed. Big Mitch
Brought my boyfriend to try Malatang for the first time and he enjoyed it! We both got the pork bone broth with black garlic but he chose medium spicy and I chose mild spice. As someone with a relatively low spice tolerance, I felt like I could have gone for at least the medium spice. Both the mild and medium broths felt very mild. I wish they also had more sauce options (like ponzu and chili oil) as well as maybe a beef bone broth option. They had a nice selection of meats, veggies, tofu and seafood balls so I didn't feel like my bowl missed much. The inside is also very clean with helpful/nice staff so I def will be coming back!
Busy spot on a friday night, staff was very friendly! There is plenty of options available - veggies, meats, noodles, seafood - and ingredients were fresh. Pricing is at $15.99/lb, the noodles expand a bit so my ~1lb bowl may seem small but was very filling! Saw many people packing their leftovers. The pork bone broth was not too salty which i appreciated! There is also a sauce bar if wanting to have a dip.

Stopped by around 8pm on a Sunday for dinner and it was pretty busy. You add meat and other ingredients to your bowl and pay by the pound. We got the spicy dry pot with extra spicy spice level. Even though it was extra spicy we didn't think it was too bad, honestly probably could've gone spicier. Although the dry pot was better, I think the black garlic malatang we got last time is tastier. The owner is super friendly and even remembered us! Overall had a great dinner experience here.
I stumbled across this place because I craved malatang! I love that they have a minimum of .5 pounds. I got 0.6 pounds for $11 something and it was so worth it for me because I don't eat much! The pork bone and black garlic soup was so flavorful and rich!! I loved the garlic flavor. The regular pork bone was alright. It did have a lot of oil though which is kind of a pattern in these malatang places. The ingredients were good! They had free tea there which was nice. I usually don't need to add additional sauce at the bar since the soup is already pretty heavy. I would come back but would go to other places for more ingredient variety.
Even though they weren't the best ramen I've had in SF, I was actually kind of bummed when I discovered that Fuku Ramen had closed. For one, it's always unfortunate when a solid ramen joint closes, but it also felt like they weren't here for all that long! However, I have to say - all of those feelings of disappointment dissipated pretty quickly when I saw that Mulan Malatang had taken their place! Especially since there are even fewer malatang restaurants around! Stepping inside, Mulan Malatang is quite similar to what Fuku Ramen was like, with its wealth of tables and chill vibes. However, the thing that stood out the most was their selection of offerings. Across their two refrigerated units, they have so much to offer - napa cabbage, yu choy, spinach, daisy crown, tofu, fish balls, fried tofu, egg pudding, king crown mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, lamb, beef, wagyu, mussels, fish filet, shrimp, ramen, egg noodles, vermicelli, quail eggs, and so much more. What's more, the quality of everything looks fantastic and they have four different types of soup broth to choose from with a few different spice levels. -- PORK BONE BROTH (Mild) with Lamb, Wagyu Beef, Fish Balls with Roe, Beef Balls, Yu Choy, Napa Cabbage, Enoki Mushrooms, Shirataki Noodles, and Ramen Noodles Aside from how I wish I had gone with "medium" spicy, this was pretty good! The broth had a nice porky flavor to it, the lamb and wagyu beef were of surprisingly good quality, the veggies were fresh and clean, and the noodles had a nice bite to them. -- PORK BONE BROTH WITH BLACK GARLIC (Medium) with Wagyu Beef, Lamb, Frozen Fish, Quail Eggs, Yu Choy, Crown Daisy, Tofu, King Oyster Mushrooms, Rice Cakes, and Ramen Noodles Not quite as garlicky as I had hoped for, but the amount it had and the additional spice in this helped a lot. I also really liked the frozen fish filets and rice cakes, but absolutely skip the King Oyster Mushrooms, as the stems were insanely tough to bite through. Since I haven't been to many malatang restaurants (yet), I can't say how Mulan Malatang compares across the board. However, from what I've seen, they seem to be one of the better values, as their price feels fair ($16.99/lb) and they're even currently offering a can of Sapporo for just $1 (dine-in only, limit one per customer). Add to that how the quality of most of their offerings seems to be pretty good and they definitely provide a solid bang for your buck. If I did have to come up with a knock on this place, it would be that neither of the broths that I've tried so far have been as interesting or dynamic as the one I had at YGF Malatang at Serramonte. Combine that broth with everything else that Mulan Malatang has to offer and this would easily be a five star review! Not that FOUR AND A HALF STARS rounded up is anything to scoff at. read more

Standard malatang place, where you put meats, veggies and noodles of your choice into a bowl which is weighed at checkout. Chose the pork bone broth with black garlic (milk spicy), but didn't really taste the garlic in the broth. The sliced beef was a bit on the fattier side than I would have liked, but the veggies were fresh. The dish is cooked relatively fast. There's a sauce station to make your meat dipping sauce. Parking was really difficult near the restaurant, and I don't live in the area, so I wouldn't go out of my way to come back. If people are within walking distance or take public transport, it's a decent place to have lunch though. read more
Nice malatang spot in the Richmond district. You pick your ingredients, weigh them at the counter, choose your broth & spice level, and they bring your order to the table. Water & hot tea are self-serve. They don't have a huge selection of ingredients but the essentials were there. I got the pork bone broth with black garlic at a medium spice level - I liked the broth and it wasn't so spicy. The inside is spacious, and service was friendly. Great malatang spot! I've never seen a pork bone broth with black garlic, but that was interesting to try. Ingredients seemed quite high quality and everything was super clean + modern. Food did take a while to come out (at least 20+ minutes for a table for 2), but it was well worth it. Will be back next time I'm in the Richmond area! read more

This is a great restaurant to have dinner at . This noodle place has a bar with uncooked food that you can choose what food you want and then the will cook it for you. You can also choose how spicy or mild you want your broth to be. This is a gem of a restaurant. I highly recommend this place. I give them 5 stars read more

The food is really tasty and great price This place is absolutely amazing! The food is incredibly delicious, the portions are huge, and the prices are surprisingly cheap. You get so much food for your money that it feels like you can eat forever and still have more left. Everything tastes fresh, flavorful, and satisfying, and every bite makes you want to keep eating. Honestly, this is one of the best places to go when you are really hungry but do not want to spend too much money. Great food, great portions, great prices, and an unforgettable experience. Really love this place. It's a local, very home-y feeling place with high quality ingredients, great selection, and fast & friendly service. The interior is also a nice vibe, very modern with nice cultural touches and always kept very clean and tidy -- overall a very enjoyable space for a nice warm Malatang. I don't know of many traditional Malatang places in SF, but I have absolutely no complaints about this one. Really enjoyed the malatang here-I had the pork broth with black garlic which was quite interesting since I've only had this type of broth previously in ramen and never in hot pot/malatang type dishes. I also loved the wagyu beef slices! They were not super fatty and really good. Pretty standard, comprehensive selection of ingredients otherwise, quick and friendly service, and a clean comfy space with plenty of indoor seating. read more

Got a mild spicy tomato pork bone broth with 1.47lbs of food, white rice on the side, with beer and I was stuffed by the end of it. Employee was extremely nice and helpful and the place was nice and clean with plenty of seating on a Friday evening. To maximize value, at least for me, I would just aim for 1lb where it's 3/4 veggies 1/4 protein with rice on the side, maybe with 2 tofu skins. If I desire a fish cake just get one with roe. No quail eggs cause I like them cooked completely but they were soft boiled for sure. read more
One of the best tasting malatangs in the city. As soon as I walked I was greeted and asked if I was new to Malatang. The ambiance is modern, they also have free tea, soy sauce, vinegar and other sauces. Ingredients are great quality, super fresh. read more

Great family spot! The vegetables are incredibly fresh, and the staff is so friendly with kids. It reminded us of a favorite place we visited overseas. The highlight is the broth--you can tell it simmered for hours because the flavor has so much depth and dimension. We loved picking our own ingredients. Highly recommend. read more

This place is the best! Classic malatang where you go down the line and fill your bowl with what you like then get it weighed and choose a soup base. They have $1 beers with purchase of a bowl. Sauce bar appears sparse at first but has everything that's actually worth having! read more
Was super excited to check out this new malatang place in Central Richmond! We stopped in around 8pm on a Sunday and it mostly full. It was very similar to other malatang places I've been to, with a great selection of fillings and a selection of various broths and spice levels - my favorite was the pork bone broth with black garlic. They also had a limited time special where you could get a can of Sapporo beer for $1 and unlimited free tea bags and hot water. All of the toppings I chose were delicious and fresh (some of the meats did look a little questionable but they tasted great nevertheless). Would definitely come back!! read more
i'm glad to see that this place has picked up and now has steady customers. The husband and wife team are very kind and work hard. You can tell they want their customers to be pleased. I like being able to select what I want to eat and the quantity. I always go for the tomato pork bone broth, non spicy. read more
Dropped in for lunch after seeing the fresh ingredients on display and it did not disappoint. Service was quick and there are a some sauces on the counter that you can self-serve to level up your bowl after it comes out. If you're vegetarian, there seem to be plenty of options available (I'm not vegetarian but I still enjoyed loading up on the wide variety of veggies and tofu for a great light lunch). My only complaint was that they use plastic cutlery and bowls - and because the food is coming out piping hot, my anxiety kicked in and I immediately started thinking about microplastics and chemicals leaching into the food. Hope they upgrade to ceramic or other types of cutlery and bowls soon! read more

Tang Bar inside of Stonestown is one of my favorite places to eat at! Finding out about a new place that styles itself just like Tang Bar had me curious as to how similar and different it would be. We went in on a Thursday night around 6pm to see a mostly empty restaurant. I realize Mulan used to be a ramen shop (which I unfortunately did not get a chance to try before it closed down). The selection bar isn't as extensive as Tang Bar but there are still quite a few options! The process itself is similar and everything looked fresh! I got the Pork Bone Broth with Black Garlic and it was really good, flavorful, and tasted healthy! My husband liked my broth more than his which was just the Pork Bone Broth. The person working the checkout counter was so friendly and patient and gave advice on what broth and spice level to choose. We sat down and our food came out in ~5-10 minutes. The service was A+! read more
We were hungry late at night and were looking for a nearby spot. This place popped up and had good reviews so we have it a try. So glad we did! I've never had malatang before, so I didn't know what to expect. There are lots of options to put in your soup and the broths they have are so flavorful! Like ramen broth. Service is good too, they answered our questions and were very nice. We found a nice spot by the window and enjoyed our bowl of soup so much. Mulan Malatang is a relatively new addition to the area, but they're great! The spicy broth was flavorful and tasty. If you've never been to a Malatang style restaurant, typically what happens if that you pick out ingredients on your own and then pay by weight. After, they cook it up for you hotpot style! The servers are nice, and the restaurant is clean and welcoming! read more

My always go-to!! They got so far the best Malatang I've tried in SF. The price is fair, the taste is good and they have free hot tea with different options & the cashier guy is really really friendly and kind. He's always smiling whenever I see him!!
