We saw a TikTok on the California burritos and they did not disappoint. The fries were crispy and the meat to fry ratio was good. Their salsas come in plastic sealed bags now, which one is more than enough. The staff is friendly and remembers their regulars. They have outdoor seating which we love to stop and eat during the summer. They also have plenty of seating inside.

Tried Nachos Taco Shop and the California burrito was definitely worth it. The carne asada was flavorful, the fries stayed crispy, and everything was packed together perfectly without feeling greasy or overstuffed. Good portion size, and the salsa was solid to top it off. Service was quick and the customer service was good. Definitely coming back.

    Fish taco

No complaints! Fish tacos was so tasty. Huge piece of fish, pico isn't toooo tomato heavy which is nice. The chipotle sauce isn't super chipotle forward either so good for everyone even if you don't like chipotle like me. Lemon adds a nice acidity. Chimichanga is massive.. this could feed two people easily. The guac and sour cream is a good addition too. $19 for both, a little expensive for the taco but when you see how big it is, it feels reasonable for San Diego prices

All potato, some sausage, basically no egg or cheese! It was like this all the way through.

I am so sad to leave this review. We've always loved this place for breakfast burritos and it was our go-to when we catered our daughter's daycare staff for breakfast. I'm pregnant and today all I wanted was the breakfast burrito! I got a sausage breakfast burrito (no beans) and it was literally 90% potato! Just crumbs of egg and barely any cheese. It was so dry. Not my typical experience there at all! When I showed the staff (I honestly thought they forgot the egg?) they said there are always 2 eggs in there even though we were all looking at a pile of potatoes.. they offered eggs on the side, but no refund or remake. I was splitting this with my toddler and wasn't able to take eggs on the side to go. Sadly probably won't ever get a breakfast burrito there again if this is their new "recipe." If this was my first and only experience, it'd be 1 star. It was inedible. I'm giving a 3 to be fair because it's usually a solid 4-5 star place with super friendly staff. The pic is from when I got home and cut it open, hoping the eggs were just hiding somewhere at the bottom :(

    El pastor mini tacos

An absolute standout experience! The tacos are incredibly fresh and come with generous portions of meat. I couldn't even snap a photo of the bean and cheese burrito before it was devoured I've been told it's the best in San Diego, and based on how fast it vanished, I believe it.

Best California burrito in San Diego!!! My official go to taco shop in San Diego!!!!!!

This taco shop is right on the corner of University Ave in La Mesa, and is a convenient drive thru option. Pros: Friendly service that's appreciative of customers, ADA accessible seating, outdoor patio, few parking spots but mostly street parking, decent food. Staff is friendly and everything is made to order

My favorite taco shop in the entire world! Family run never disappoints! Super quick service and the people there are so nice, it's also amazing to sit there and eat in the AC on a nice hot day! I love getting their carne asada burrito and their carne asada nachos normally but everything I've tried from their menu has been absolutely delicious! 10/10 always has me coming back!!!

Always friendly service, good food and a clean restaurant. Our current favorite for CA burritos which have gone up to over $14.

Still great food as it's always been but like everything else - prices have skyrocketed. As long as the quality doesn't go down I'll still continue to come here. Fast service and inside is always kept clean.

I hit the drive-thru at Nachos Taco Shop and grabbed a California burrito--easily one of the best I've had. The burrito was massive and had the perfect balance of everything: plenty of meat, guacamole, and fries (not like other spots that just load it with fries and skimp on the good stuff). The salsas are absolutely bomb, and the worker at the drive-thru was super friendly and welcoming. Great food, great service--I'll definitely be back!

I drove by this taco shop a bunch of times and finally had time to stop by and eat here . I had a bean and cheese burrito and boy was it delicious! I highly recommend their bean and cheese burrito. It is very fresh and a good size. The customer service was top notch and the taco shop is clean and adorable.

I got the panela a la plancha, super excited to try this grilled cheese in a salad. First, my food came out significantly later than my group. The waiter even made a comment and had to go back and check in. Second, when I got it there was no cheese to be seen. It was pretty much a ton of arugula and a small amt of toppings. Pretty disappointing.

We were having great conversation and catching up, just the normal things you do when you have a "girl date". Anyways, we ordered another shot to take as we were vibing out and enjoying our ceviche when we were told that "we've had too much", since we had not yet ordered our entrees. I have been here more than 20xs in the last 6 months. I've been HAMMERED, I've been sober, you get the point. Never once have I been told of this "policy". Never once have I been cut off or warned. From the second we got here, the bartender was rude. He wasn't the main bartender, but that's neither here nor there. Every interaction we had, he never made eye contact, never engaged, never NOT seemed annoyed to be there. Anyways, after being told that we needed to order entrees before we were able to get another beverage, I asked to speak to the manager. She came over a few minutes later trying to explain responsible service to us...my best friend and I are bartenders and have been since we were in our 20's. We're now in our 40's and are not sloppy. Anyways!! I am not sure where this came from; had we been acting intoxicated and embarrassing, not another word would have been said. We would have left with our tails tucked and many apologies would have been given. We will never go back. This "policy" has never been enforced in all of the times I have patronized the restaurant, and this fully ruined our evening. We understand responsible service and how to appropriately gauge a customer's level of intoxication and never once were we acting in a manner that would warrant such actions from their employees. Very disappointed by this experience.

The burrito itself delivered. The adobado came through with that deep red glow and smoky tang, the kind of flavor that feels like it's been tended to, not rushed. The salsas were restocked and delicious! I loved the green one and the extra hot was a fav of my mom. I also really enjoyed the carrots! The only thing was while I was eating the burrito, I bit into something hard and I took it out -- it was a piece of a bone. It was shaped a little bigger than a pebble. I didn't know it was possible to have bones in carnitas/a burrito. Idk if that's the norm, because when we mentioned it-- the woman working basically casually continued her napkin sorting or whatever and said "oh okay.." lol this made me think this was just another everyday occurrence. Although, a little more acknowledgment would have been better on her end. For this specific experience, 3 stars, but truly a 4-5 star taco shop! Overall, minus the bone, and the dry response...the food was great! Salsas fresh and restocked, they had way more options than usual. The horchata was a little too sweet, but overall refreshing. Walking into Panchos, you are immediately greeted by a bright, colorful and welcoming scene. It gives you the feeling of walking into your tía's favorite old school restaurant. The tables and benches are dark wood. And there is papel picado hanging. It's charming. You get the feeling that Panchos has been around for decades. Apparently, the restaurant has been open here since 2004. And the real star? Our server, whose name I cannot recall. He was equal parts waiter and comedian, a very kind man who was highly attentive and extremely helpful. If you like spicy salsa, be sure to tell him to bring you the good stuff from the back (after he offers you bland Tapatio). The menu is absolutely massive. They have breakfast burritos, breakfast plates, chips and fries, shrimp plates, soups (check with the team about offerings, like caldo de res), tortas, quesadillas and a kid's menu and more. I highly recommend the cheese enchiladas and the chile relleno. The chile relleno is especially good. It isn't your soggy, cafeteria-style relleno drowned in red sauce and regret. It is the best comfort food, and Panchos does it well. There is a generous melt of Oaxacan cheese, the batter is very light without being greasy. And then there was the ranchero sauce! Tangy tomatoes, a hint of garlic, and a tiny bit of chili. So very good. Also popular on the menu is a pitcher of margaritas, which you should plan on sharing with three others. The mango margarita is also quite nice. And they also have a Baileys & Coffee. And you can easily get a delicious, filling meal for $20 or less. All around, a great place.
