We casually strolled in here on an evening after eating at honest Mary's and we're delightfully surprised but the service, quality and care from LinLin and Paula! We did not realize that they were closing soon but they didn't say a thing - they sat us down and handed use a cold glass of white wine! Since then, i have grown close to the lady that does my waxing and Phil who takes care of my toes and nails when needed. They have such a welcoming environment and took great care with me while i was pregnant. I have been to Chi Nail Bar around 6-7 times. Most of my experiences have been hit or miss, but my experience last night tipped the scale. I will not return. I got both a manicure and pedicure. The pedicure was fine, aside from the giant thumb print she left in the paint on my big toe. The manicure was beyond awful. She painted my nails while she talked on her cell phone the entire time. I asked her to simply apply a clear coat (no color), but she managed to miss half of each nail with the coat, rather she painted the skin on three fingers instead. I spent 10 minutes trying to scratch it off at the salon. I would have complained, but I just wanted to get out of there. Stay away. read more

I've been here a few times, so I feel like I can give it an honest rating. Why only 2 stars, and I've been here repeatedly? I kept wanting it to work out. The location is great and they serve wine with your service. But alas, that is NOT a reason to go here. I went to have my nails filled 6 days ago and already 3 of them are broken. He filed them down so much that it's nearly jsut my natural nail. They are also more expensive than other salons. i too paid $23 for a fill, and that's not a "pink and white" fill but a regular one. The owner is a man whom I have heard argue with other customers over the top coat they use. They were requesting another top coat since only one coat ships so quickly. ***This review is for the Red River location only - it is also for natural nail mani/pedi, I've never gotten false/acrylic nails*** I've been to Chi Nail on Red River twice: the first time for French tip mani/pedi, the second time for the same thing, with shellac. Both trips were similar in experience: Pros: -the girls will ask you along the way if everything looks alright; if you have problems with the job they're doing they'll back track and fix it for you -super nice, new facility: new massage chairs (if i was reviewing the chairs alone i'd give it 5 stars), new big, flatscreen tv's, new nail bar, etc -free champagne/wine (one glass per visit) -shellac mani/pedi will last for at least 3 weeks, -very polite staff Cons: -it was a bit hard for me to communicate with the girl i got the second time; i had to get the girl that runs the store to translate what i wanted for her -the regular mani did not last me more than 6 days before cracking through the white French tips. It gets 4/5 stars because I've been to other salons and gotten better mani/pedi (regular and shellac) for the same price. However, I will use Chi again because of its convenience (2 blocks from my apt). read more

Well, here's the thing - they try too hard. And it is too expensive. While the treatments were nice (particularly loved the sugar scrub which smelled of citrus and coconut) the menu is too limited cost wise. This is not a place I would go every couple of weeks for a manicure. It is also not a price I would pay for my monthly pedicure. This place would be a 'treat' but only if you went 'whole hog' as we say in Texas, and get the whole package, and trust me, they try really hard to get you to upgrade. I got there around 4 PM on a Tuesday, and I was the only one there. Not a good sign. While I'm happy with my results, I think I paid too much. I would prefer to go to a less 'fancy' place and get the same results for about $25-$30 less. read more

They last 3-4 weeks from other places I've been too. - I've had to have them go back and fix things multiple times with getting tips done. They are also always crooked. - it's not a very clean place (crickets everywhere, and when I addressed it they shrugged their shoulders and moved on....not even an effort to show them out the door.) - they treat you like a number - Anjelah Johnson described this experience perfectly in her nail salon bit! Aprehensive after reading some of the reviews, I decided to take a chance and judge for myself. I was impressed. I was able to walk in for a pedicure and wait only about 20 minutes on a Saturday. The nail tech who did my pedicure was super friendly, efficient and just good at her job. Nothing hurt, I wasn't left with rough spots on my heels, the polish was flawless. Went back a week later to have a manicure and I had the same tech. Again, thorough and efficient service! The gentleman who manages (I assume) the location was intent on my having the shellaq manicure and we went around about that for a couple of minutes but that was the only glitch in the experience. I created a Yelp account just to make my experience known. It was worth a try, being so close to where I live. I walked in for a manicure midday on a weekday and waited over 30 minutes before I got any service. There was a man just sitting in the office, looking over at me occasionally, who I'm guessing was a manager or owner. I told myself he must not know how to do nails, because if he did and just left me sitting there so long unattended, that is really poor service. Luckily, they had a decent selection of essie polishes to choose from that I immersed myself in. I understand if it's busy, but maybe a little heads up that if I don't want to wait I should come back later. Especially since an apparent regular walked in during my service and my tech told her to go grab lunch and then come back. A little warm bowl of soapy water was haphazardly plopped in front of me at the bar and was my only companion for another 15 minutes. Finally, I get a nail tech and all I got was up-sale after up-sale. Paraffin wax? No. Shellac gel wrap? No. I don't expect great conversation but I would've preferred silence over the selling. 2 days later, my polish is beginning to peel at the tips and my cuticles look haggard (she got clipper happy and took off WAY too much skin while it was soft from the water and lotion). Sanitation was a major issue too. I watched a cricket run around behind my technician while she worked on me. The "hand washing station" was littered with TONS of used brushes and tools from the counter to the floor (i couldn't even tell which were the clean ones I was supposed to use - so I didn't brush) and one (of 2) sink was stopped up and filled with murky water. No beverage offered, I paid $15 for a basic manicure (she didn't even want to paint a second coat of color, I had to make her) and tipped about $2. I'm a nice person. Needless to say, I won't be going back. Stick with the devil that you know, ladies. read more

This is a review for the Great Hills trail venue. I really enjoy this nail salon as it is less busy than the one I use to go to by the HEB. I have been here about 3xs now and my last experience was great. I got Dao and she was very sweet. She is good at her job as she didn't hurt me when trimming my cuticles. I got a deluxe manicure, which came with a sugar scrub, an arm massage, a short neck massage, and a hot towel treatment. I also got the paraffin wax treatment as well. My hands were very dry before I came in and I left with super soft hands and a very good manicure. I would give it a higher rating but I feel they need the lights to help set the nail polish, which they don't have. read more

Horrible place. The service was horrific, the two people doing my mani pedi kept switching around and changing customers. I got a mediocre gel shellac mani pedi that started coming off a couple days later and the skin around my nails was raw and peeling! I've gotten hundreds of mani pedi's and this never happens! On top of that, I am Vietnamese and they asked me if I speak and for simplicity, I said no. So they proceed to talk sh*t about me and other customers in the room in Vietnamese and I understood everything! Terrible people and the things they would say about their clients! I usually never see this type of sh*t talk at other salons so I wasn't expecting it but if you want to get dogged on in another language and then be "pampered" with skin infection and poor nail service, come here. Working from out of town and decided to get my gel nails redone after work. I went in as a walk-in and was immediately attended to. I had broken one fingernail down to the quick and the tech replaced it with an acrylic one. You can't even tell it's fake. Some of these reviews surprise me. I have been getting my (natural) nails done in and around the Austin area for 10+ years and found Chi to be a great experience. While I did have to wait 5 -10 minutes with only 2 other customer's being serviced, it was well worth it. Friendly staff, modern atmosphere, and the most complimented manicure I have ever had. Going back this week for a pedi and bringing friends. Pedi was great as well. Did the simple pedicure and had a great leg and foot massage. Tech did try the up-sell for other pedicures they offer but was polite when I declined. I will definitely be going back. At first my 2 daughters and I were uncertain because of the reviews, but after walking in we were met with a warm welcome and they were able to accommodate the 3 of us. As a licensed cosmetologist I do not recommended this nail salon. The nail tech had a open wound and did not use proper procedures in covering up her wound. Horrible experience. My daughter purchased a gift card for me at Christmas for the Chi Nail Bar & Spa. She is a loyal patron and gets her nails done there at least once a month. On Sunday, June 29, 2014, we went to Arboretum location for manicures. While the service was very good, the checking out experience became a nightmare. Unknowingly, the gift card expired within 6 months (the print is very tiny and not prominently displayed). The gift card had expired by a mere five days and the young woman informed us that we could not use the gift card. I requested that she contact the owner by phone to ask his consideration to waive the short period of expiration. Despite being told that my daughter is a regular patron of his salon, he insisted that the card had expired and we pay for the services. He then threatened to call the police if we left without paying. read more

Zero stars should be an option. Really. The staff here seemed very friendly during my first visit to be honest, but after noticing bubbles in EACH of my nails, I decided to go back the next day. I spoke to three women who told me to come back in 7 days or so to get them fixed, because they couldn't fix them so soon after they were just done. Okay. No big deal. I come back 9 days later and asked for them to be fixed. They said "Oh, we fix two." Excuse me? First of all, you told me that all of them would be fixed and now you're only fixing two? Okay. Well if that's the case, please take them off so I can take my business elsewhere. After the lady was done taking the nails off, I asked to speak to a manager. She said they didn't have one, so I asked to speak to the owner. She proceeded to call him and he showed up minutes later. He went straight to the back and got in a "shouting discussion" with the ladies. After which he comes up and says "He can speak to me now" in a tone that suggested I was bothering him. Great. I started to tell him what happened, what I was told the first day I came back, and what I was being told would happen now. He told me flat out that I was lying, which completely appalled me. Then he told me that he would bring up the cameras for today that would show her offering to fix them. I told him that while yes, she did offer to fix them, she only offered two, where TEN are wrong. Then he said that I waited too long to come back in. YOUR employees told me to wait - I wanted them fixed the day I came in the first time. He said I was a liar and that it had been more than two weeks (which it hadn't and my bank statement proved this). After going back and forth between him calling me a liar and saying he's pulling up the cameras, and me telling him that it is incredibly unprofessional and completely ridiculous that more than one of his employees said they looked bad when I first brought the issue to their attention and this is how I'm being treated now, I told him to bring the cameras up. Then he started saying that he'd just refund half. At this point this isn't okay with me. Bring the cameras up from today and the day I came in to get them fixed the first time and prove me wrong, buddy. He didn't want to do this, so he brought the women up to talk to me. After they both didn't say anything, but give her money back, HE FINALLY REFUNDED ME EVERYTHING APART FROM A TAKE OFF CHARGE. His final words to me? "I don't want to see your face in the place anymore." No problem. After you've treated someone who wanted something THEY PAID FOR just to be decent looking, who would want to go back? This place and it's customer service is beyond horrible. read more

I can't be bothered to trim nails, so I go somewhere for a pedicure and then to have my nails cleaned and trimmed every week and a half or so, so when this place opened I thought I would give it a try. Walked in and was not even told to pick a color like some other reviewers, but was told to "sit" in great obedience school form. And There were employees yelling and the atmosphere was just horrid. I didn't actually get either service because after about five minutes I decided it was just better to leave..
